I wish one of these tracks in the area of New York and Pennsylvania. (Yeah that’s a big area) Would start a bug class! And get rid of the full body, 4 bangers with the fart cannons for exhaust. I bet if you started a mini modified bug class. You would get a lot of competitors.

What an awesome video! I still have some of the old memorabilia pins and such when my Uncle took my sister and I there for the first time in 1983. Fast forward a few years and I found myself there again but this time on a pit crew 358 class #71 Louis Bray. I still remember the racing lawyer...Flack and Barefoot Bob McCreedy. And of course Kenny Tremont. Great memories! Thank you for sharing such a great piece of history.

My father first took me and my brothers to Lebanon Valley around 1959. I still have some black & white photos from back then. I remember the Yellow X, Butch Jelley, Doug Garrison, Dexter Dorr, Stretch van Steenburgh (an old Dutch name in an area full of Dutch names) and the starter standing on the track and waving the flags, jumping up wildly. Oh, those were the days.

I went there once with my family around 1965, I would have been six years old. My recollection is rather vague but I remember walking down a dusty road from where we parked to the hillside next to the track where we sat on blankets and had a picnic. I remember a black 55 Chevy with number ‘55’, a loose wheel and tire coming up the bank and nearly hitting us, and I remember seeing the “yellow X”, Butch Jelley.

Made on half lap at Fonda in car 88. Steering locked and went off the back stretch down on to the old track next to the mohawk river. Army got me and never went back.

These guys built their own cars and engines. Now days everything is store bought. All cookie cutter cars now. I have lots of respect for the old time racers.

Peter was like a Godfather to me. I grew up spending a lot of time at his and Dorothy’s home with my parents and brothers. We would swim in his indoor pool and if play tennis with him on his tennis court. He could beat anyone, even with one leg. He was a mentor. A kind man who had such determination. He never said no! He was always up for a challenge. I have so many fond memories of him. I loved him like an Uncle. ❤

Wow., at minute 2:07 they're talking to Kenny Tremont., and was the driver that I was installing and maintaining all of his 2-Way Radio equipment (as Klein Communications) I believe somewhere in the mid 1990's when Guy Madsen, owner of "Madsen Overhead Doors" was one of his biggest sponsors, as I serviced all the 2-Way equipment on Guy Madsen's service vehicles. Also, sometime in the late 90s (or ealy 2000s.?) was when I designed, built and installed a low-power FM transmitter for the roof of the Dragway control-tower, so that everyone, whether in the "line-up" or in the parking areas (to far from the PA speaker-system to hear clearly) could easily listen-in (on their car radio) and keep-track of what was going on from the tower announcer. It was set to 107.3 FM (quite close to the Country music station, 107.7) Does anyone know if that system is still in operation.?? I used to live only 2 miles East of Howard Commander's track (a few turns in from Adams Crossing Rd) and helped-out Don Kline, Howard's right-hand-man for many years, before I left the area to move to north-central West "by God" Virginia. Regards, Eric Klein

I grew up hearing stories of this and other local track's. My uncle Bobby Pearson was a driver, my father John "Jack" and his brother's worked on the cars. Around 1977 I helped my father remove and graft the flat bed that they used to haul there cars on onto another truck. 1979 after my father died I found the original track.
