How Gladiators Made Senators Feel Insecure
Sad to see Tiberius always getting the short end of the stick with these rankings. I'd like to believe his shrewdness and avoidance of unnecessary spending gives him a 6. His rule only really went downhill as he got older and more paranoid. Also Trajan should be 10.
And you wonder why we kicked your ass! This video coming from a guy who lives in a country run over by middle eastern rapists and stabbings. Get bent Cu^t
English people have always been pussies
And you guys think trans 6 year olds are ok.

Why does Roman Egypt look so fat they never controlled Sudan or that much of Egypt
Augustus Vespasian Everybody else
To the point that the aristocratic class couldn’t have made up lies about Domitian’s reign in a sort of combined conspiracy to change living memory, I think that is disproven by the lost cause myth in America. The lost cause was invented by southern sympathizers and southern slave owners, who very successfully changed the historical memory of their intentions behind the Civil War less than a decade or two after the civil war. I find it very believable that the aristocrats at the time, who had much more control than the American politicians and aristocrats, could’ve invented a much greater lie.
elagabalus is so me

“Well I liked Claudius but slot of people at the time didn’t.” Such was life for Uncle Claudius
Plutarch's accounts of ancient history are some of my favorite to read. Absolutely fantastic video, I had to subscribe after watching.
Shockingly small channel given how good it is
RUclips poop
Fantastic summary of the story. I think this one is the best compilation of facts about Franklin Expedition. Thank You
“Praetor” should be pronounced “PREE-tor”.
“Quaester” should rhyme with “keester”.
Ed Harris to play Sulla??? A better choice would be Michael Shannon.
I am not an expert on Roman history. I did find your video interesting, but I agree with those who say that you sold Constantine short. He was Constantine the great after all and he was able to defeat all of his enemies and consolidate power and bring Christianity the Roman Empire. I will admit that I'm somewhat biased as a Christian but you are have an obvious bias against the practice. I would argue that Christianity has taught peace and brought providence to the nation's that have been faithful to its teachings. It instills gratitude and discipline in people by making them accountable to something higher than themselves. If civilization comes to ruin it will be because the West forsaken this gift to humanity. Your palpable disdain only fuels this fire.
I agree. The entire video he was very critical of the Praetorian guards who were responsible for so many Emperor assassinations yet never even mentioned the fact that Constantine was the one who justifiably erased them from existence. His paranoia to family members he killed aside, dude ruled the 2nd longest out of all roman emperors, 3rd if you include the Byzantine empire, and actually breathed life to the empire giving it a 2nd wind to last another millenium the Byzantine empire I mean. I honestly would have given him an 8 or a 9 and in my opinion his most grievous mistake was not leaving a good heir because he killed his most competent and militarily accomplished son and left the empire to be fractured once more by his 3 sons.

As a Wargamer, Tier Lists are essential to my wellbeing! PS: I'll add the Iberians/ Celtiberians "C" tier!
"my brother in apollo"
I love generics videos but this one is a bitch to keep up with. I had to rewind it a couple times and stopped everything else that I was doing so I can just sort of halfway follow it. There are way too many characters in this! Lol. Actually there are a couple too many. This is a time in history where I'm not at my best.
This is second time I am watching this 3 hour long video. Not bragging just saying how effing good this is.
Oh yeah? Im about to finish my 10th watch and Im probably still gonna give it another 5 more watches I just know. This man here is truly amazing at what he does
It makes me think of how Appian explained that often when the empire came into some manner of crisis the government would (in an effort to bypass the sloth of bureaucracy) elect a dictator who was only meant to hold power long enough to quickly resolve the crises and stop things from becoming worse. Isn't it obvious how such a system could lead to emperors. If one could somehow justify the concept that the empire is in perpetual distress, or that the dictatorship remains necessary, then that is an easy justification in and of itself to keep one man in power in perpetuity.
Sullas really unique among people who have held ABSOLUTE POWER, let it go, won every war, died old, but not bitter. Although Sulla wasas humorless and serious a soldier the legions could produce. An utterly merciless vampire of a human being... but when he clocks out.. life of the party now?... That's WILD to me!
To all people who like Rome AND the Mafia, know this. 3:43 So ironic that the Mafia modeled itself based on the Roman Hierarchy, but in reality... The Romans would not have tolerated a criminal agency like the Mafia. The Roman magistrate put in charge of that "operation" would go something like, identified members would have been strung up, WHIPPED within an inch of their lives, beheaded (and if where living in the late Republic) thrown in the Tiber River, unburied, unmourned. If a guy like Sulla is the "Senior Magistrate" their family PURGED too... Also, the Romans would have been particularly offended and quite honestly infuriated by the idea of a group of "land-pirates" using their governing system and traditions as a tool for achieving self enrichment and underground shadowy base of power via criminal means. The motivations are different for the two entities. One is guided by an ALL CONSUMING ambition to be the greatest man of their age. The other is motivated by money...
These plays were done at an annual festival that plays were judged, all the important people sat front row .. Like Cleon, the generals, elected officials. Lysistrata points at them In the play & talks to them, breaking the fourth wall. . . His plea went unheard but has echoed for nearly 3 thousand years, long since that place & time has been lost to the present.
I like the long videos. I listen at work and trying to find part 2, 3, 6, 9s of things is annoying 🤩
The more important influence this had on Washington was its quite likely the reason why he objected to being king of America. Thus, we have term limits.
The Restitutor Orbis may have reigned for 5 year, but they were 5 glorious years that restored Rome to it's former glory. He was the only emperor to become greater than Trajan.
Also his helmet is SICK AF
Kinda funny that the poor guy who hangs out with the vagrants and actors and drag queens becomes the optímate conservative iron fist dictator dedicated to preserving Patrician elitism….
Wish you had a Podcast ❤
Bruh, you look like you woke up from the craziest night of hookers and cocaine, which you were able to afford by not visiting the barber in 20 years. 🤣 All jokes aside awesome content!
Why are you describing me Sir?
Not sure why, I can't hear the soundtrack on this video, but I can hear it on any other video of your channel I tried.
A good Battle of Teutoberg Forest should look like a swords and sandals Vietnam War film. Also: shoutout to the Boudiccan Destruction horizon! There's a solid layer of carbon across Roman Britain from all the stuff she burnt down
