"So they raised a usurper emperor and killed him," perfectly encapsulates why this channel is one of my favorites. The little self-deprecating dry humor bits are just so high quality.
Incredible video. Plutarch would be proud of you.
You are way too positive here. The act was a crime in many classical city-states with a punishment of being publicly grape-d by a radish (or something similar).
So, Sulla was like Naruto?
Found your channel today. I’ve been watching a lot of documentaries and such about history and specifically about Rome more intensively for about 3 years and I’ve watched a specific topic from a variety of different channels so to evaluate better the information and I got to say that this video was really well made and the way you narrate is extremely good! Keep up the good work!
It is hard to take you seriously when you missed House Targaryen (yes, even Americans can be sarcastic). Nice format.
To my knowledge the Gothic culture survived in Siberia until quite late. I think the last Gothic cultures were snuffed out in the 1800s. That is some longevity.
Really impressed, I’m sure I’m oversimplifying this but I can’t help but think about our current immigration crisis. For people and their families to travel on foot to places unknown, risking their lives the conditions had to be absolutely horrendous. The hopelessness they must have experienced. When you look at it just on a human level it’s incredibly sad. I wonder what people will say about us 3k years in the future if we don’t address our climate change crisis. Again, thank you for your well researched and thoughtful content. You probably can tell I’m a social worker lol
I love history and look for channels like yours on RUclips all the time. I have never wrote a comment before but I think the way you talked about the subject and how relatable you made it was perfect. There are a lot of people with your knowledge "I think". But they have a hard time explaining it at a non academic level while making it interesting. You nailed it. Lastly, I have read books watched several lectures and not once heard about the king using ice for his drink. To me, that takes the sophistication of the bronze age to a new level. Like you, that blows my mind. Keep up the great work.
Thanks! I know it's mind blowing right!?
Nero to hes mam “thank you mother for making me Emperor now I will kill you as a gift” Nero you mad.
Articulated so well, enthralling watch
You just destroyed my junior high word history curriculum. Mr. O'Keefe will be very angry (it was 1978 so not sure if he is still with us).
My apologies to Mr O'Keefe if he's watching

"Patres.....three weeks from now I will be harvesting my crops. Imagine where you will be and it will be so. Hold the line.....Stay with me! If you find yourself alone, riding in the green fields with the sun in your face, do not be troubled, for you are in Elysium and you're already dead. Brothers.....What we do in life echoes in eternity."
icymi, recently a retreating glacier in the Alps uncovered a genuine Roman Road through the Alps, one has to wonder, was it there before Hannibal attacked, or after? The "elephants over the Alps" is a lot less impressive when we realize there wasn't any snow covering them at the time, plenty of fodder.
Mithridates VI scores 23. Elon Musk, "hold my beer !"
‘For those about to die’ is probably the reason I’m watching this three years late, the irony!
All kings are basically military dictators.
Santa kicked ass? Wow.16:01
I just found your channel three days ago and I can't stop watching
I can’t put this down. Im addicted.
I have greatly enjoyed your podcasts for the details, and the style of presentation. May I ask as to why I can't find any videos on the life of Julius Caesar and Augustus presented in your unique style? Is it because there already are so many other videos about them? It would be very interesting to know from you about the life and achievements of Marcus Agrippa.
I'd love to do a video on Agrippa and likely will at some point! You're exactly right on the Caesar and Augustus front. I've considered doing videos on them but haven't really thought of anything that new that I might add to the story of such well known figures
The Jews never stood a chance due to their small overall size, but pound for pound, arguably they caused massive problems for Rome. In fact, the Romans called them porcupines, and yet even after being vanquished, an offshoot of their religion literally took over Roman religion.
1 person was taken from Thera, or 1 male?
Being recommended this video after the very narrow scoped Metatron video on the subject is one of the few good things the algorithm did right lately! Even watching his video I could think of 3 or 4 examples of same sex relationship mentioned outside of myths. But of course he only focused the Illyad not specifically saying that Patroklos and Achilles were lovers but conveniently forgot mentioning anything about Phillip or Alexander ^^. It was definitively far from a LGBT paradise (specially considering it was male dominated and extremely sexist as most ancient societies) some media wants to portray and I get why some history fans get so defensive because in the end, both sides are cherry picking and omitting certain sources that contradict with their beliefs. But damn it was lightyears above any medieval European society for sure. Just proving my thoughts that Catholic beliefs regressed our societies centuries in some aspects.
Love your Videos. Are you related to Napoleon Bonaparte ? there is a close resemblance if you shave of your beard
So the import of cheap labor was driving the native population into poverty - good thing we learned that lesson early on 😢
I got all the way to canned tomatoes before realizing that he's just making spaghetti for dinner. So good.
I'm probably too late to the party, but why has no one asked why Caligula is rated 15/10? Huh! But anyway, like everyone else, love the speed humor 😂
Lately have been watching videos from this channel with no regards how old or new they are. Fantastic narrative style to keep any video from becoming a drag. Hope the algorithm blesses it someday
This put into historical perspective Collen Mcullough's Fall of the Republic. The utter destruction of the pheonicians (Carthage). Followed by massive germanic hordes bulldozing europe even as early 100 B.C. And lastly Rome transitioning from a Republic to something like the latin american dictators during the cold war. Indeed this vid can be titled "The Decline and Fall of the Roman Republic" 👍
The story will be replicated in America if Democrats win both the Executive and Congress after which they will then pack the Supreme Court. America becomes the equivalent to the Roman Principate. Donald Trump is Tiberius Gracchus.
2:43:00 he was also inbred as fuck. Maybe he had some sort of convenient mutation that, for whatever reason, made eating Greek dirt good for his health
Excellent
“It’s not exactly agincourt”… 😆
It e eventually ended with the Generals armies defeating the Senate's armies ending the Roman Republic and being replaced by a Roman Emperor or strongman in the manner of those strongman who ruled South and Latin America back during the 60's and 70's
WOW !… just watched this… EXCELLENT ‼️ Spellbindingly informative about such a charged subject, but the presenter’s personal delivery & pace kept my attention focused. BRAVO‼️
Earthquakes dont use bows 🤯
Wonderful lecture. Optime, frater!!
Totally epic
There was a youtube series that was dedicated to showing how the romans were from the beginning to the end.
Did i just find my new favourite youtube channel????????????
Call of duty. Kicking War 1
Iran has the most amazing history.
100% Greek lies/propaganda 😂
A man so evil they named a childhood disease after him. Or chickens. I'm not quite sure...
Great content Horrible outfit
As my ancestors were Samenites I too am disappointed you did not cover them, I believe my ancient ancestors fought the Romans for over 400 years. I was born in England in Wolverhampton both my parents are from Montella AV, and there was an ancient Samenite stronghold nearby, the Samenites were also known as the Wolfmen and my local football team in Wolverhampton as well as in Avellino in Italy are known as the Wolves
Saying that Boudicca is comparable to Mithridates or Hannibal Barca in terms of “Rome’s great enemies” is utterly laughable. Seriously, Rome would’ve gladly dealt with 20 Boudiccas at once rather than deal with another Hannibal.
Goths seize Rome, destroy Roman armies, kill Roman Emperors, and you give them B. Sassanians don't take Constantinople OR Rome, barely threaten the Romans outside their own territory, and you give them S? Shameful assessment!
