Flic Film Aurora 800 in Low Light: How Imperfections Tell the Story
Просмотров 7816 часов назад
Shooting a roll of Flic Film Aurora 800 with Georgia. Really put my lens to the challenge at shooting it as low as f1.8 for some photos. I really like to challenge some photos with the natural light of the nights. I think this can capture some moody photos. My Nikon F5 struggled to focus for some photos, but then again some slight un focused photos can make it a bit more of a story. It was a gr...

Expired Film, Soviet Cameras, and Surprises: Kodak Gold 100 | Zenit EM
Просмотров 17921 день назад
In the spirit of the Olympics this year, I dug out an old friend, the Zenit EM, Moscow 1980 Olympics edition. My first-ever camera. As a kid, it was my gateway into photography, and picking it up again was like slipping into a pair of well-worn shoes-slightly stiff, but familiar. The focus? A little shaky at first, but I found my rhythm. This time, I paired it with some long-expired Kodak Gold ...

Kodak Portra 400 with a Classic Point & Shoot | Minolta Riva Zoom 115
Просмотров 296Месяц назад
I dropped a roll of Kodak Portra 400-arguably the gold standard for capturing the raw, gritty pulse of life-into my all-time favorite point-and-shoot, the Minolta Riva Zoom 115. It’s not fancy, it’s not new, but it’s got soul-just like the city I was about to get lost in. Melbourne. Windy streets, neon reflections in puddles, and that ever-present scent of espresso and distant sea air. Neko was...
Am I Crazy? Fujifilm Velvia 100 with a point & shoot camera - Fuji DL-500?
Просмотров 203Месяц назад
A crazy idea of shooting slide film in a point and shoot camera? Talking to a legend of a photography I know Dave ( fauxtofun) he said that Fiji point & shoots enter well for slide film. So randomly I thought, why not drop a roll in and see what happens. Some of the photos under flash, a little too heavy in reds but over all, some of the day time shots, are on point! Makes me want...
Fujifilm Eterna 400T - back when Fujifilm made movie magic. | Nikon F5
Просмотров 209Месяц назад
In the studio with Gareth from Mr. Negative again, there's an almost sacred ritual to shooting some Fujifilm Eterna 400T. This isn't just any film stock; it's a rare gem, long discontinued, but still revered for its unparalleled colour and unique cast that only Fuji could conjure. I can still see the cinematic dreams it brought to life, etched in celluloid history. And then there's Erika, the m...

The best channel on RUclips! I wish you a million subscribers! Great photos as always. The film is contrasting, probably has 4 stops of dynamic range
Thank you for the kind words & ongoing support. It really means a lot and made my day! :)
Another XLNT video and film test James. I just don't see any reason to buy or use this film. Looks terrible for any portrait ideas... Thanks for the test! Jim in Las Vegas
Hey Jim, totally agree! Appreciate the support :)
I have shot it at 100 and then pulled it one stop in development for a less crunchy look and very acceptable results. Not bad for an experimental film at all. Nothing wrong with your results. (Not being a PITA but your title says harNan instead of harMan😉).
Yeah it’s a good experiment film and if it helps fun me them to make more film. It’s what we need!
@@jamesjuranke Exactly
100% agree. I did this recently and really changed the results. Nothing was blown out or crushed like my previous rolls. Give it a go sometime.
Yep, you have confirmed it ! This film is not suitable for me. Dark is dark no details at all! Maybe shoot AT ISO 25.
Yep! 120 looks a lot better of this film
3rd attempt at a comment. I shot a roll in Melbourne a week ago with different results. I shot the film at box speed on a Cosina CM4s with a 28mm lens. I scanned the film on an Epson V850 with Epson Scan settings set to auto, as recommended by Harman and incidentally endorsed by Shaka1277 who has tested Phoenix pretty intensively. I have posted some pics on that site beginning with I under davidwilliams7037.
did you try it at 100iso?
No unfortunately. This was my first roll so just shot it at box speed. Next roll I will.
Wow James! I'm really loving the contrast you're getting in those shots. That's amazing for this particular film. I've just ordered a bunch to give it a go and I have seen other videos where it required quite a bit of post-production to get that sort of contrast. Are you doing anything in post or is that straight out of the camera?
Hey! Thanks for the kind words! Nothing from my part. Just the lab scans. They did a great job! No post production at all from me!
@@jamesjuranke Well you made some terrific pics there sto begin with.
Hi there, I'd like to make some observations as constructive criticism. I think you might want to consider working on your composition a little bit because in some of the photos almost half to a third of the image is made up of the background & void space which can be distracting but would be fine if it were more out of focus (using a larger aperture would be a way to achieve that or you could close the distance between you & your subject to "fill" the frame with them) also in several photos you cut off parts of your model and in some cases I think you could have shot in portrait instead of landscape & vice versa landscape instead of portrait.
Appreciate the sharp eye! It’s like you’ve got X-ray vision for composition flaws. You’re absolutely right-sometimes the background does feel like it’s trying to steal the show. Definitely going to play around more with aperture and framing next time. Always learning, always growing (just like the amount of empty space in my shots, apparently)! Thanks for the constructive feedback!
@@jamesjuranke I will say that you did nail a few of them really well as well as a few being 90% there with just needing a tiny adjustment to nail it too.
Nice
Amazing shots! Beautiful model and thoughtful images
Thank you for the kind words as always. Hope all is well. 🥹
@@jamesjuranke Yes, everything is great! I watch RUclips through Tor in 720p only) otherwise everything is great thank God
@@colorist-idealist Ahh good to hear that you can still get onto RUclips! I have been keeping up with all the news in your county. :( Hope you can get normal RUclips back soon.
Great color! Wonderful photos and model

@@jamesjurankethe green cast is intentional ?
Yes part of the film 🎞️ ☺️
Love that carpark as a shoot location! ive done it once, but also felt a little judged by the office workers overlooking it haha. nice pics
Thank you! Haha yes you get that sometimes on a roof top car park!
Great shoot. She is the best of the oriental models you use. Very commercial.
🙌
I don’t understand why Fuji, a Japanese company would make a negative film to capture faces. There’s no way to say this without it sounding colorist, so I’ll just say it - the colour shift of negative film that moves red to orange just ends up removing the red from the faces of Asians and makes them look more yellow. 🙃
Well this film is no more 😢
