I'm going (to attempt) to outline some of the things I noticed when going back to the States, especially in relation to Russia and what I had heard for the last five years. A quick update of what's been happening here in Russia this last week and a half or so. Nothing major, just the formation of a "new" government, but the assignment of Andrey Belousov to the post of Minister of Defense shocked many. Plus two major tragedies that occurred in the country, as well as some updates and economy factoids

    Never underestimate the power of national promotion in the development of products. A decade ago, Westerners looked down and laughed at BYD. We all know how that is turning out to be.

    • @russiaincontext
      @russiaincontext 8 дней назад

      How is that turning out? As far as I gather, BYD was expanding into an rather undeveloped market (electric vehicles), so competition was largely non-existent. RUTube has been promoted for years now, but no one wants to use it. VK maybe, I'll give you that. However, interestingly enough, there are reports that RUclips saw increased traffic last week during the slow down

    MONETISATION - That's precisely the reason. They don't want Google to make money from Russians, in Russia, while this company basically represents an arm of a hostile government. Surely it's not because of the fifth column (the Russian "liberals"). I'm sure they've been planning it for a long time. You can't (and you should not) block YT immediately, until you don't have the viable alternative that people actually want to use. That's why it will be done in stages. It's the gradual de-coupling from the collective West. That is probably what the overzealous member of State Duma meant when he mentioned blocking Android and other things. You can block Android OS but it makes no sense to do it until Hongmeng/Harmony OS by Huawei becomes more important on the phone market. Blocking all tech coming from the West would be the best possible thing to do in terms of inciting people to create local equivalents (Russian govt doesn't use Windows OS anymore) and develop the native software, but they apparently don't want to go down that road. Public opinion is definitely NOT the motivation, they've got the approval rating (for their performance as government) of 83%, with 9% of people rating government's work as "negative".

I suspect I’ll be getting a lot of free time back just prior to football and TV premieres, so this is good and bad. All the other platforms people might switch to seem to require phone for registration, have poor interfaces, and/or drain device batteries faster.

    While there has been an overcorrection by some russophiles who overly romanticize a country with a ton of problems, the points raised in the video are wrong. It's not a matter of opinion whether Russia is cheaper than the U.S., you can just compare them via numbeo or more accurately using purchasing power parity. U.S. is more expensive than even Western Europe, which is more expensive than Russia. But obviously wages are also different so it's true that Americans are overall much wealthier than Russians (and everyone else, tbf). P.S. i really hope this channel doesn't go the way of serpentza.

    If your salary is in rubles then everything is pretty pricey here in Moscow. I personally feel that restaurants and bars here are way overpriced for the average Russian person. But of course if you get paid in USD, then things are much more affordable.

    I love Moscow and I agree it’s one of the best cities in the world. I’ve lived in many countries around the world, I’ve lived in many major cities. I’ve spent about 19 years of my life in NYC, so I have something to compare Moscow with for sure. I can attest that Moscow is a very comfortable city to live in, especially, with such vast variety of services and business, delivery services available virtually 24/7. You can get almost anything delivered to your door within hour or hours of ordering it. I find it super convenient. Since 1990s Moscow has changed a lot and mostly in a great way. Also I’ve noticed that people have become more open, more friendly and they smile a lot more than they used to. I believe Moscow is going to be one of the best and technologically advanced cities in Europe within next 20-40 years.

    Nice walk & talk! Thanks! Hello from Moscow. I agree that it’s completely unnecessary changing the pavement and all such things around the city every year. Not only it’s unsustainable but it also annoys us to no end, those of us who live in the city. I wish they stopped doing this. I wish they preserved as much of the old historic center of Moscow with its pre-Soviet as well as Soviet architecture as possible. I don’t appreciate those modern buildings and urban areas because they seem soulless to me. Its rich history is what makes Moscow -the Moscow we love! We need to preserve it as much as possible. I’m a new subscriber btw! ❤

    Don't you know who is the Mayor of Moscow? The one who has it's own factory which produces curb stones, paving stones etc. So they rebuild all the Moscow, year by year only with one reason - to get money from the city budget

    In fact i found strange 2 things : life in Moscow is not that cheap as said. And you provide the example of restraunts visits. Why restraunts? Is it the only aspect defining the cost of living? Not the utilities bills, electricity, petrol, rental prices, cost of transport, food, no? And the second thing : noone says The US is falling apart. It is foolish to say so. Despite the increased prices in America it certainly makes good money on all wars running on the globe. And the fact that the US debt is increasing rapidly doeant make the situation worse right now. Who suffers most is Europeans. Ordinary Europeans with dramatically increased prices, relocation of industries and economic recession. The Us makes money as always in fact. So , things yet are not that bad for Americans and America. But things are changing and would change. World wont be the same as it was in 2018. No chance for that. Not for Russians, not for others
