Fat Chance Yo Eddy 1991 : Dream build Part 1
Просмотров 2,8 тыс.3 года назад
This for me - the Fat Chance Yo Eddy was the one that was nothing more than a dream. Surely never to be a reality. When the Yo Eddy first caught my attention in all it’s glory spread gloriously across the pages of MBUK it instantly became more than just something of a poster boy for early 90’s steel unicorn retro MTB …. It was almost fiction like….and in fact very rarely if ever seen in the wil...
The ‘holy grail’ project for all Retro MTB fanatics 🤯
Просмотров 2,7 тыс.3 года назад
This is ‘the one’. There can only ever be this one. Rarely the finest in any collection - but the most vital. Where it all started 31 years ago…. Thanks to my cousin Andy - for (accidentally and by luck than design) keeping it in the family. Enjoy. 👏🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Syncros Revolution Cranks given a second life - a retrobike refurb!
Просмотров 1,7 тыс.3 года назад
There is a fine line between ‘patina’ and beyond redemption....but these cranks were in no fit state to adorn any build from this workshop. There was only one course of action - the refurb. Rare, bloody expensive 🤦🏻‍♂️ and at the top of my wish list made these a risky proposition, a proper commitment (some might say foolish) to bring these half way around the world before having to then try to ...
1991 Marin Eldridge Grade - The unboxing and build all the way from Bosnia!
Просмотров 6 тыс.3 года назад
This very original 1991 Marin came into the workshop directly from its previous life in Bosnia. After much delay due to shipping restrictions and COVID across Europe this gift from the East arrived just before Christmas and has since undergone a light refurb and small upgrades here and there but this is so original. Not a UK available colour-way back in 1991 - making this a rare specification o...
Refurbished ‘89 PACE RC30 meets ‘90 Orange Prestige

These 1989 Gen 1 PACE RC30 forks finally get fitted to the 1990 Orange Prestige. A Marriage of Yorkshire’s finest bicycle engineering after a little adaptation with a shim, a local engineering company and yours truly. Super happy with the refurb and this is exactly the spec I ran of my Orange Clockwork BITD! Thanks for watching and thanks again to RetroDecals, Reynolds and Pace Cycles along the...

1990 Orange Prestige - Retro Bike
Просмотров 3,8 тыс.4 года назад
From the golden era of Mountain Biking - the early 1990’s - I’ve returned to a brand I couldn’t have been passionate about - Orange Bikes - and more specifically the Orange Prestige. Back in the day I was a proud owner of a Clockwork and this return to the brand has brought a lot of joy and enthusiasm back.....the search for build no. 3 has already begun.....👍🏼 Thanks for watching Enjoy!

The dream has come true. Out of reach and only ridden by the exceptionally well heeled / pro athletes / journalists in period...this did, and for me possibly still does, set the standard. Forget your Tioga Disk drives, Yeti exotica or fat tubed Kleins....this is North Yorkshire born and bred and hard to beat Thanks to @red_dread aka ‘Dr Frankenbike’ for the support - see his channel and builds ...

Fabulous looking bike. I don't think the blue ano is bad. It might not necessarily match but neither does it clash. The jazzy decals on the frame and the matching ones on the wheels are fab.

Magic. Those box-profile tubes 👌They had one of these hanging up in my local bike shop around 99/2000. It belonged to the shop I think i.e not for sale. Beautiful bikes.

Looks amazing - I saw the other video too. Wondering if you have a spec sheet that would contain data like spindle length, bearing size and sourcing along with rear cassette info etc. Strving to build up a Yo Eddy medium and it would be very helpful. Thanks!

Hi. Great video and lovely bike. One question about the fork. Is the groove down on the steer tube necessary to have? I’m about to buy Pace fork with too short steer tube and change it to longer one. Thank you and greetings from Finland👋

What size frame is that? is it a 21" Many 19"s had short head tubes (100mm), can't remember how long mine was. Lovely bike BTW really takes me back!

I remember having bars so narrow it was hard to fit full size grips with levers and shifters. Now i'm riser bars only . handy tip for titanium bars if you cut them down. try using a pipe cutter and cut them in 5/8ths inch or 6-7mm at a time to make rings out of them. You cant really size it but they will fit some people ,like me. I put the cuttings in a vice to ovalize them a tad, a little buffing on the cut edges and presto.

Lovely build - I still have an F2 which I have had from new! The frame isn't without short comings (slushy back brake - even with V-Brakes) but your build is really similar to mine in many ways. I also raced it with the red Z-max tyres 1.5" I think - the tyres cost me a packet back in the 90's and lasted 1 race!!!! But the weight and ride quality with those tyres on was amazing. I'm looking at doing a rebuild on mine as it has needed a service for years so I might do a full strip rebuild. Good work and great informed video - cheers.

Nice resto, came out great. I think your repro sucrose stickers are not quiet right. There should be more space between the letters and the letters look a bit thicker than your originals. Small point I know but .....

Syncros made some minor updates to this crankset over the life of the product. The early versions came in a gloss black finish, and the later updated versions were in a matt black finish. There was always this rumour that the earlier gloss versions were prone to cracking, so Syncros beefed up the tubular arms a bit to compensate in the matt black versions. I raced DH in western Canada on a matt black set with matching titanium bottom bracket for 2 seasons in the late 90s. Still have the cranks and BB on the original frame today. No problems. If I remember, I think new the cranks cost me $450 CAD, and I got the Ti BB for a huge discount (120-180 CAD??) when we had some fitment issues with my old BB.

I have a pair that I’m planning on reconditioning and I’m just curious about the sanding process. Do you slowly take it all the way down to bare metal everywhere or just enough to blend it with the paint that doesn’t necessarily require removal?

This is/ was an epic bike. Had one from 1991 till 1994 (it was stolen from a former friend of mine who gave me the money for the loss) . The ride quality was really PERFECT (geometry wise) but my head set loosened too often because of the vibrations coming through the straight fork. So I put on a Manitou (which was lacking a bit torsional stiffness back then but the head set kept „quiet“). The grellow painting is legendary and great but I had some issues with chipped lacquer from broken stones flying against the frame coming from the tyres. Then I found and bought my (still alive and kickin‘) LITESPEED Ocoee (1993) with the exact same geo …I LOVE riding this bike, it’s SO good (plus no rust whatsoever and no chipped painting as it’s polished titanium). Anyway: Yo Eddy is an all time love of mine! Enjoy your rides with this thing, mate!
