Silver Springs State Park
We visited Emmaline in Orlando and headed to Florida's first tourist attraction, Silver Springs State Park. It is home to the largest artesian spring in the northern hemisphere (Mammoth Springs) and some of the clearest blue water you'll see anywhere. We kayaked first and then took a glass-bottom boat tour. On the glass bottom boat tour, we saw a pretty large alligator laying on an island that we had just kayaked by earlier...and not seen at all. Which was somewhat disturbing. CHOMP!

Touring Bike Build For Bikepacking
Просмотров 85День назад
The bike is built and the shakedown rides are completed (3 of them). I'm very happy with the way it turned out. I modified Emily's old '90s model Specialized Hard Rock mountain bike. It should be a fine starter bike for me to do a few overnight trips. This will help me see if doing bike tours / bikepacking is my thing. It is ready for a Fall '24 ride(s). I think I'm going to do an overnight tri...
Back To My Hometown (Springfield, TN) Hunting The Bell Witch
Просмотров 7114 дней назад
Somehow my travels led me back to my hometown, Springfield TN, for a long weekend. I decided while I was there I'd do a little Bell Witch hunting. I'd watch movies and read books to learn about her evil ways. Then I'd go to Adams, TN to visit some sites. I was going to find her! I had plans to look for her while floating down the Red River and in the Bell Witch Cave. She cursed my efforts, howe...
Our Last TN State Park (Big Ridge SP) AND Max's Graduation

Lots of stuff wrapped up on this weekend of RV'ing! We visited our last Tennessee State Park (Big Ridge State Park). With this last one we've visited all 58 Tennessee State Parks. We started RV'ing several years ago. It has been a lot of fun! This marks a BHAG (Big, Hairy, Audacious, Goal) off my list. Each of our four kids have joined us along the way at various times (making it even more fun)...
Kayaking To Burgess Falls State Park's Beautiful Waterfall

Burgess Falls State Park 2.0! We've visited this magnificent Tennessee waterfall from the top several times (on foot). We've never kayaked to it to see it from the bottom. At 136 feet tall (and at least that wide) it is absolutely beautiful. It has to be among the top waterfalls in Tennessee. It is a very fun (and relaxing) kayak adventure (highly recommended). deanorolls.com/2024/07/27/kayakin...

4 Awesome Waterfalls at Virgin Falls State Natural Area (Sparta, TN)

We spent a day waterfall hunting at Virgin Falls State Natural Area. It was a long day of hiking (10 miles and 30k steps). It was worth every step, however. Frozen Head State Park was our second-to-last TN state park. It has been on my list for a while (since it is a hiker's state park). It has about 50 miles of hiking trails. The Barkley Marathon is a secret 100-mile ultramarathon race at Tennessee's Frozen Head State Park each year. They do 5 20-mile loops (with 10,000 feet of elevation gain per loop) within 60 hours. Very few humans have ever finished the race in its 38-year history. We tried to do 1 (one/uno) loop (1 fifth of a Barkley Marathon) within the same amount of time. 20 miles and 4,500 feet of elevation...

I learned a lot from watching @miseyrides FACT! I think I'm just going to go from our house in Bellevue down to the the campground on the Trace near Hohenwald (Meriweather Lewis). 60-ish miles. Then come back the next day. That'll be a good first ride (and not too far from home if I have to call in help! LOL). My son Max might come with me. He was with me on my last epic fail. I'm going to wait for it to cool off a bit so the camping won't be miserable. I'm watching the weather leading up to Labor Day weekend (but it'll probably still be too hot). Definitely will get it in before fall is over, however. I'll let you know, when we get it nailed down a bit more it would be fun to hang out with you.

      @DeanoRolls 2 месяца назад

Absolutely cheaper to let someone else sink their money into a restoration (and then buy it after the fact). I've done a couple of different vehicles and you ALWAYS spend more than the end vehicle is even worth. The only exception might be if you do everything yourself (and I don't know many people who have all those skills). I spent about $17k on this restoration and the tractor is probably only worth $10k fully restored.

@@DeanoRolls Not really it came down and nothing was destroyed. I learned by clearing my 5 acres of HEAVILY wooded property. Had an old dude (I mean he was older than dirt) helping and gave me tips. For trees leaning opposite of where you want them to land, tie a tension rope with a come along to another tree or immovable object in the direction you want it to land before you cut. Ratchet up and put tension on it then start your wedge cut and then the back cut at least half a foot above the wedge cut. always got to be mindful of twist when it falls. Be sure the area you want it to fall has nothing that could be damaged if it doesn't fall correctly. If that's not possible then you'll have to cut it in sections starting higher up which is better left to professionals in my opinion. I don't like heights, hell I don't lie being this tall.

This is unrelated to the topic of the video, but I've been watching your channel for a few years now. Thank you for the videos of your excursions around TN! They definitely helped me plan and carry out an awesome family vacation with my mom and sis a little less than a year ago when my mom was seemingly healthy as a horse. It was her last vacation before we found out she had cancer due to symptoms arising from lung cancer that spread to her C7 vertebrae which caused her to go from walking 4 miles or more every day to being bed bound. Unfortunately she passed this January just after her 72nd birthday. While this is the worst part of life, I'm not trying to make this a sob story, just wanted to share a little background to show how much your videos made for an amazing vacation packed with so many great memories to look back on exploring just about everywhere within a two hour radius of Cookeville or Rock Island, Tennessee. We went out to Standing Stone, Fall Creek Falls, Black Mountain, Rock Island, Lost Creek, Devils Step Hollow, and we rented a pontoon boat for the day on Center Hill Lake which my mom absolutely loved piloting, along with many other mini, side adventures. We probably wouldn't have known of, or discovered, some of those places if not for your channel. So, I just wanted to give a huge thank you to you and your wife for making some great and often hilarious videos that helped me plan a most epic vacation that, little did we know, would be our mom's last. I'm glad she got to experience so much awesomeness shortly before everything went to Hell. I still can't believe it was less than a year ago she was out hiking up mountains with us. This just goes to show the importance of enjoying every single day and all the little things in life, because it can change so fast. Well, I've written enough of a novel, minus paragraph breaks because I'm bad about that. 😄 Just wanted to let you know the wonderful impact your channel has made through the adventures it led us to. Thank you and your family so much! Good work on the farm by the way! Keep it up! And God bless y'all!

@@DeanoRolls you got it, brotha! It's been a while since I've seen one of your videos (stupid RUclips algorithm) and when this one came up, it reminded me of all the ones we watched while planning our trip and I had to give you the thanks you deserve. It was definitely a reminder that life is short, and to make the most of it. I promised my mom I'd start up an orchard, whether for fun or for profit, in her name, because she was actually looking forward to moving out into the country and getting some acreage to have a proper garden and fruit trees like her parents had when she was growing up in Southern Illinois. Well, you'll definitely have plenty of footage to watch in the nursing home! 🤣 Maybe I'll actually start making some videos regularly on my channel at that point and can carry the torch for ya. I could rename my channel "Rollin' with the Wohls" in some type of homage. 😄 Thanks for the kind words as well. Good luck on clearing that road. Take care and keep enjoying the heck out of life! 😎

Thanks for documenting your experience! It brings back memories of my first times backpacking. I commend you for taking on the challenge alone. I'm sure you learned a lot and I hope you continue with adventures like this! Looks like a fun little spot for being so close to Nashville.

It was fun (Montgomery Bell is a nice SP). We've been there a few times doing different activities (kayaking, biking, hiking, campground). None of my buddies ever want to go backpacking with me. Sometimes if you wanna go you just gotta go I guess...or find new buddies! LOL

When I cut bigger trees on my property, I'll put my tractor bucket as high as it will go and put slight pressure against the tree before cutting my lead in it. Once I get my lead cut, I'll cut from the other side until I get through most of it and jump on my tractor, and push it in the direction I want it to fall. I enjoy watching videos like this. Thank you

That's a good idea. I've used my truck and chain to pull the direction I want to go as well. I'd rather the tree just go where I want it to go without any of my stuff near it (including me). LOL Whatever I do I move slow and use an abundance of caution because I don't really know what I'm doing and I don't want to die! YIKES!

When you move here we'll turn the back field and woods into airsoft wars! Those are so I don't cut off my pee pee and die!

I don't remember it being an issue. My wife likes to be connected to her kids so if we'd not had service I would remember that.

It is very fun. If you haven't floated the Hiwassee on the duckie rafts you should do that too. Both are very fun and different.

Those dwellings look similar to carved out dwellings in Cappadocia, Turkey.

Agreed. If you've never watched the show Ancient Apocolypse you should. He goes to various structures like these and makes the case that we've been around a lot longer than we think we have. Interesting.

I knew you weren’t of scared of snakes. I’m in the south too and saw my first copperhead in my backyard last summer and I freaked out running and my weeds were much lower than your tall grasses. I have those vines on the trees of my property too.

Terrific video, however - and I’m not exaggerating - only about two of ten folks who do these New Mexico videos take the few seconds to ask a local the correct pronunciation of the placenames. I mean, how hard is it to ask? Picky, I realize, but it seems a no-brainer to me. The Valles Ccaldera is one of the jewels of the state, and it deserves to be said correctly. You still get my thumbs-up!

Even if they told me how to say it I’d still mess it up. I had to stop taking French in college because my dumb brain plus my redneck accent wouldn’t allow me to speak the words correctly. Lol.
