Great stuff Alec,I always enjoy watching your videos.Keep them coming…👍
Thanks Jimmy for watching them 👍🎣🐟
Morning Alec, could you point me in the right direction on purchasing a rod holder please, after many a year not fly fishing regular, I’m going to get back into it after the Christmas and new year, that’s a game changing bit of kit, keeps everything nice a clean, easy to carry, having 2/3 rods set up is the way al be going rather than changing spools when it’s choppy in the boat/cold/lashing it down in rain.
They are a smashing bit of kit , the gentleman who makes and sells them is called Bill Bonas, he is on Facebook, they are not too expensive expensive , which is always good 👍🎣🐟
Throughly enjoyed the video alec. Keep them coming. 👍
Thanks John, cheers for your positive feedback, it's much appreciated 👍🎣🐟
Excellent video. How long do you usually wait before making a change? Do you make changes in any particular order.. patterns, lines, location?
It always helps if you have some knowledge of the water your fishing , but an intermediate line is a good starting line , you can cover depths from the surface down over , obviously if you see fish rising you can target them with a floating line and dries , a midgetip is a good line for nymphs and washing line method with various flies , Di3 to Di7 is for deeper waters where the fish are feeding deep down , especially in the hot summer months. 👍🎣🐟
Fantastic Alec
Cheers 👍🎣🐟
Hello Alec, The rod carrier you use, did you buy it or make it yourself, if bought can you let me know who sells/manufactures them?
They are made by one of the old codger called Bill Bonas , they are really good and a very reasonable price, you can contact him on Facebook. 👍🎣🐟
Another really good video Alec. Good angling, great photography and excellent advice.
Thanks George , that's much appreciated 👍🎣🐟
Hi Alec I don’t tie my own flys, do you have anyone that sells your pattern?
Send me a pm Stanley 👍🎣🐟
Really enjoy your fishing vids 😊 Note to self, try more methods and move more. Thanks for sharing Alec
Thank you Stanley 👍🎣🐟
Will you be fishing with Peter again Alec? And can you tie your fluff cat please?
We will be soon Trevor, I will tie it 👍🎣🐟
Hi Alec your fishing videos and fly lnfmation is second to none, 🎣👍
Thank you Paul , that very much appreciated 👍🎣🐟
hi alec do you sell the nothing fly if so where can i get them
Send me a pm please scot.👍🎣🐟
Alec, great video, love fishing the Daddies, where can you get the ‘MINI DADDIES’ ? Thanx in advance.
Wayne , send me a pm .🎣🐟
Alex, brilliant. Orange daddy is my bogey fly. Caught loads on your mini brown and tan daddies.
That's strange Robert, some days its the one the fish absolutely smash , but that why I tie the brown , tan and black mini daddies and give the fish what they want that day 👍🎣🐟
Need to tie a couple of them. Good looking pattern.
Get some done Robert 👍🎣🐟
Alex, an update before winter hits and the fish go down. As I said in my last comment top hats catching everywhere. Favourite size up here is a 12 and tied with dark brown thread.
They will definitely catch until we get the hard frost of winter , but October and early November can be mild some years 👍🎣🐟
Thank you big time brutha
No problem 👍🎣🐟
Struggled all day today. Tried everything from Grunters to Snakes then remembered the Nothing Fly. Bingo! Fish hammered them. Thanks for the tying instructions. .
Brilliant to hear scot , what fishery were you at??
Frandy. Excellent fishery up in the Ochil Hills. Probably about an hour from either Glasgow or Edinburgh or three hours from your neck of the woods.😊
Nice one , lots of people messaged me to say they have had great sport using the fly , shsre with your pals 🎣🐟
Great tip on the Davey Knot and small nymphs! Thank you for sharing Alec! 😃👍🐳🐳
No problem Stuart, also use it on your dry flies 👍🎣🐟
@@alecharveyfishingandflytying I used the knot years ago and forgot how to tie it . Many thanks Alec, keep going with the videos Bro! 😀👍
Stop giving fish credit for having a memory they have none any single fly from a blob to a spider will catch fish . At the end of the day if there’s no fish H in the swim you won’t catch .
Everyone's thoughts on catching fish are different. That is why some anglers are multiple champions and some are not.🎣🎣
FUCKING LOVEY hinny, if you know you know mind ❤
Cheers Joe, lovely to hear from you pal, hope all is good 👍 🎣🐟
Stay safe hinny
Hi Alec, what floating line do you prefer to use for dry fly fishing
I like to use a snowbee thistle down 3/7 wt for my dry fly fishing.
Just came across this video just what i needed to learn btw also tied 2 nothing flys tonight
That's great Cameron , you should catch well on both flies 👍🎣🐟
When you land the fish even though they fought hard your leader when drying the fly was always at right angles the the fly ? How do you tie it to sit like that.? Cheers good video.
I normally use a Davy knot on my small dries , but you still have to check the fly after catching fish to make sure your happy with it 👍🎣🐟
Hi Alec, I used a nothing fly this morning at Knitsley, I was letting it sink and slowly retrieving it and had 6. I originally got some from eBay but can't find any. Do you know where I can get some as I don't tie them?
That's great Alex , the fly works well off the surface or just a few mm under . Send me a pm on face book about the flies 👍🎣🐟
Hi Alec, I've sent a PM on the missus FB account, thanks.
I haven't received a message yet ??@AlexAtkinson-s7l
Apologies Alec, I'll try again. Don't know what's gone on there 🤦♂️
Hi Alec, I've sent another, fingers crossed 🤞
The nothing fly is working great thanks for the trying the fly 😊
It is tempting lots of trout on still waters just now and will do until late autumn 👍🎣🐟
Hi Alec, what size is the bead please, must say you videos are top class, cheers
Cheers Kenneth, you can use 3.2mm or 3.8mm depending on how fast you want the fly to sink .👍🎣🐟
Thanks for your reply
Hi Alec mate, how’s things. I was wanting to tie up some of your Nothing flies but can’t find anyone who stocks the Tiemco Aero Wing material in black. So I wondered if you tied any flies to sell on and if so could you let me know. All the best mate, love the channel.
Cheers Sam , it is hard to get hold of the Tiemco aero wing in black for some reason. Give me a pm 👍🎣🐟
@@alecharveyfishingandflytying Hi Alec, how do I send you a pm? I’m not on Facebook or anything like that.
Had some great days on this fishery when Bill And Scott leased it .
It is a nice fishery , like all lakes they need good weed management and a god regulator stocking policy, some great fish in there now 👍🎣🐟
Hi alec whats the black material for the tail and wing thanks
cameron itis only tied with two materials, tiemco aero wing and dyed green peacock herl. If you go right to the end of my video you can click on the link for the tying video, or check my channel for the videos of the NOTHING fly and the NOTHING Butt fly 👍🎣🐟
Thanks nice we fly will try them later many thanks 😊
Cheers, also check my channel for the tying of the NOTHING butt fly 👍🎣🐟
How do you try the nothing fly
If you watch to the very end of the video, there is a link to click on to watch the tying video. Or go to my channel and the tying video is on there on there , Nothing fly and Nothing butt fly .👍🎣🐟
Cracking alec, the family will have to take a look up here sometime soon.
Cheers Graham, definitely worth a look 👍🎣🐟
You’re “nothing”fly did you proud Alec!….enjoyed the video , thanks for posting. 👍🎣
Yes , it's good at this time of year when the trout are looking up 👍🎣🐟
Must be 25yrs ago the last time i fished there in a nesa competition..
It's great now James 👍🎣🐟
Caught nothing but Cray fish that day..@@alecharveyfishingandflytying
Cracking little fly! Thanks Alec. 😃👍🏆🐳
Thanks Stuart that's much appreciated 👍🎣🐟
No need to reply about flexi floss, just discovered that it can be dyed and now have beautiful red floss.
Sorry for the late reply Robert , you can get all the colours from Jim Tuck at sports and leisure in blyth, Northumberland. 🎣🐟
Alex, you may be able to help. Any idea where i can find red flexi floss for apps. I bought from two suppliers and what they sent is more orange than red. Thanks.
Reply sent Robert 👍🎣🐟
Explained brilliantly why you would consider a top hat over a cdc fly. What made it more special was tying the top hat pattern at the end. Spot on. 👏
Thanks Jim , pleased you enjoyed it , thanks for watching the fishing and fly tying videos 👍🎣🐟
😮top hat
😮😮
Hi Alec, it says the leader and the fly are ginked up, do you not degrease your leader ? Cheers
I gink the leader from the fly end towards the fly and leave the last 4ft free of gink , then gink the fly , this allows the fly to move easily across the surface. 👍🎣🐟
@@alecharveyfishingandflytying That's cleared it up mate thank you. Good videos by the way 👍
Hi Alec excellent fly, if its flat calm would you use xink or fullers earth or would you still gink it thankyou.
I gink the fly and the leader apart from the last 5ft which i leave untreated , this allows the fly to be moved easily along the surface using different retrieves.
@@alecharveyfishingandflytying cheers
Hi Alec, does this work OK with black foam as well? I'm out of brown. I'm finding your videos very helpful having recently got back into fishing and tying, great stuff thank you!
Definitely Liam , black is probably the most used Beetle, but the trout can get fixed onto the little brown ones when the are about 👍🎣🐟
Lethal Alex. Thank you for such a clear and genuine demo! 🐳🐳
Cheers , it's a great small fly that catches lots of trout .👍🎣🐟
@@alecharveyfishingandflytying I am going to try it Alec! You are very generous sharing such deadly patterns. I fiss small Stillwater's mostly, the trout get wise quickly to standard patterns. Best wishes bro and thanks again!😃👍😃🏆
Would this work well as the point fly on a washing line? Lovely pattern, thanks for sharing.... Will test my tying skills though 😅
I wouldn't fish it on a washing line , it fishes better moved along the surface, you could fish another dry fly on a dropper if you want to fish two flies.👍🎣🐟
@@alecharveyfishingandflytying perfect thanks Alec
Hi, great video! the 4 legs pattern does have different legs lenght based on hook size? ie. 4,5 cm for size 10 he said, for size 12 and 14 they have shorter legs? greetings fom Italy
Cheers, Peter has his legs a 1.5 inches, if you feel you need to make them shorter on the smaller hooks , don't go less than 1 inch as the movement of the fly is not as attractive. 👍🎣🐟
@@alecharveyfishingandflytying Appreciated the answer, tight lines!
That looks extremely fishy.
Thanks Graham, the trout like it too, they smash it off the surface 👍🎣🐟
nice pattern, like! i need to try this for rudd and chub
Go for it 👍🎣🐟
Looks like a fishy fly that one Alec, have to tie up a few of them i think.
Definitely John, you will enjoy fishing them 👍 🎣🐟
Good morning Alec . Nice to see that you are catching well on the sedges I introduced you to and a lovely wee video to boot . I’ve never got into this video making malarkey but I see Steven Spielberg has a competitor 😉. You have done a good job brother and almost to the recipe . These have got to be my very best dry flies I have ever invented , ‘for want of a better word’. As you rightly said they catch fish all over the country and have worked well on the big Irish Loughs and over the pond in the States too . More or less I fish them from late spring when fish start feeding on the top right through to early winter . No need to wait to see rising fish as they bolt up anytime of day to grab them as you showed in the video at the beginning. I have a photo step by step illustration should anyone wish to have a go in addition to your video you have so kindly made . PS …. Just won a fly tying competition with this fly and won a ton of tying materials 🎣🎣🎣👌👌
Thanks David , since you showed me the fly a few months ago I have been out to my local lakes and had some action on it , the trout have been coming up smashing it off the surface, it's exciting when they are bow waving after the fly and the grab it , lovely way to fish. Hope to fish up with you in the next few weeks 🐕🎣🐟
Hi David, what a great pattern. I don't suppose you tie them commercially do you?
@@mikekennedy4549 I don’t tie for money Mike . If you can wait as not got a spare minute to myself as major house alterations keeping me busy right now . I can try and do you few or Alec is doing not a bad job of them maybe ask Alec .
