My Quest to Build the Ultimate YZ250X! - How I set up my Yamaha YZ250x for HARD ENDURO!!
This is my 5th YZ250X and for this build I went all out to build a hard enduro beast. Is it going to be as competitive as an 300cc Austrian bike? Doubtful. Is it going to be fun as heck, cheap to maintain and reliable as death and taxes? You better believe it!

This trail is called Loco Yoyo, mostly because it's a constant up and down. It's also pretty unique in that it's primarily sand, with a good mix of hard enduro style elements sprinkled in. Definitely a lot of fun!! Unfortunately my GoPro gave me an SD card corruption error about 15 minutes into my lap, so I had to restart about 1/4 into my lap. As always, if you like this kind of content, or yo...

These clips are from the day before the race, checking out the area and getting a sense of what I should expect. This place is cool, can't wait to get back there! Every spring before the trails thaw out, we find ourselves heading to the sand pits, climbing and trying to get our legs back under us. At the end of this session I found myself so dang happy! Good friends, 2 strokes and endless climbing possibilities. So hyped!!

Every year the snow melts, but the trails are muddy and icy. So we head to the sand pits, the first chance to get off studs and put some time on the bike. Unfortunately it's often a rude wake up call because sand isn't very friendly if you're just trying to cruise around... there's a certain level of intensity you need to stay upright. Our routine on the day was as follows: 1 x 10 minute warm u...

Over the years I've experimented with LOTS of different wheels and tire combinations. One thing's for sure, there isn't a "do-it-all" combination that works perfect everywhere. Every combination results in a give and take depending on what you're riding. These are the combinations that I've been using during the 2023 season. In this video I talk through these different combinations and my reaso...

I just bought a 24 yz250x. What do you recommend for break-in procedure and mixture. Can i run 40:after break in without re-jetting? Thank you
Hi , i have a 23 yz250 put a ganarly pipe with a powercore2 silencer and i notice the top end singing off like you said if i put the stock silencer on the ganarly pipe will that give top end back? And is it ok to swap pipes and silencers around? I like the low end of the ganarly pipe but i also like to ride top end alot and the fmf looks amazing lol
Doubtful. I think it's the gnarly that kills the overrev
@JasonHamborg ok I was told it was the long silencer that give too end
Can you go over the fan install?
@@1225runescape video on my channel that shows it off a bit better
sick video bro. cant wait till i get another yz for trail riding
How did you like the boyesen rad valve? Performance? Longevity?
Yeah it was good. I ran it for a couple years. Using the VForce now and it is also really strong. Big upgrade on these bikes!

What type of clutch you running. The stock cable clutch or a hydraulic
@@mikepierson5239 stock clutch with a zeta cp perch
I had the Narly, it smashes just as easy. After years of replacing and fixing pipes I finally ordered/tried the E-line cover and to my surprise it was worth every penny. My new pipe with only a few hours on it would have looked like a T-rex chewed on it. BTW, rumor is Yamaha coming out with e-start.
Thanks for the video helped me a lot
Cool video great info 👍

Great quick tips! as you mention these i'm thinking of another one that i recently thought of. One coaching tip for any type of skill that i think is critical is "how you know you're doing it right". Or at least, "how you know you're not doing it completely wrong". And for hill climbs, i think one of those things is when you're first learning, it helps to start on smaller and smooth hill climbs and make sure you can fully balance yourself front to back while going up the hill with only one hadn on the bars. If you need both hands you know you're not balancing properly on the bike and you need to work on your hinging at the hips to forward lean / throttle balance. Forward/ back balance on the bike is so critical, if you don't learn properly you'll never be able to be efficient on the bike IMO. And once you learn it, hill climbs become easier, less tiring, and safer. Safer to do while standing but it also applies to sitting. If you're sitting you'll notice you can't get it right without flexing your ab muscles.
WHAT IF YOU JUST BOUGHT A PROPER ENDURO BIKE. GIVE CODY WEBB A COUPLE YEARS TO PUSH GTYR TO MAKE SOME PROPER ADD ONS. LIKE A FAN.
What clutch cover is that
Gonna be hard to beat Cody’s build 😮
He'll have the hitliss system over me... but it's on my radar for next year!
mint
Have you considered magura hydraulic clutch?
Can you share your jetting specs?
Can't believe Yamaha won't put elec start on these machines.
Probably because it keeps the price down . The minute they bring the bike up to current offroad level as the Europeans, expect the price to climb significantly. As of right now, the YZX is a hell of a bargain.
@@bmdbigfeet1031not in Australia. Almost $14000 which is ridiculous for what you get.
@loopeyshooter503 yeah it is ridiculous but what's the price of a xc 250 ? Canada they're under 9 for a yz250x.
@2:05 what snapping sensation are you talking about with full wrap around bark busters? Do you mean when you hit a tree or something with the bark busters and your handlebars try to rip out of your hands?
Yeah exactly. I find with flags, you get a bit more play in the system and those small clips of the trees you don't feel that snapping sensation.
Nice riding Jason, that looks fun but absolute torcher in many spots! Great content, keep it up!
Nice Bro! Keep it up
Apex plate: I put rivet nuts in the frame rails so its a direct bolt on So much nicer and easier .
I love your riding man. I got four minutes in and feel like the vid is too brief. Not because I think 30 minutes for a set up vid is too short. I would like to see your lever angles, how far in they are, where your finger contacts the lever, clutch freeplay, clutch engagement point, knuckle angle for each lever, bar width, bar sweep, rise, bar roll, clamp locations, reach from the pegs, height from the pegs, guard angles, grip width and button locations. Those are all things I highly scrutinized on my bikes. Maybe I should start a U toob channel.
Use wish that Yamaha would install a true wide ratio 5 or 6 speed gear box.
Very thorough video. You've thought about everything...lol.
Sweet set up, been looking to pick one of these up and add it to the stable.

Apex MX dome is sweeeeet!!
One of the best platforms to start with in history!!
Hey man, love the content! On my yz250x i ran the fmf gnarly as well and mated it with the turbinecore 2.1 and it brought back the top end. The turbinecore 2.1 is very long and fmf told me thats what gives the bike the top end performance. apex head with the fmf combo, bike was an animal. On a Sherco now but love the yz.
Great presentation!!! I really enjoyed the video! 👏
Looks like you didn't pursue electric start on this one

Can't call it the ultimate build without trying hitlis. Missing out my boy.
@rideoutwest7885 duuude that's what I'm hearing! It wasn't even on my radar until pretty recently!
@@JasonHamborg you won't regret it. The power is unbelievably linear and does amazing here in the Colorado gnar. It's certainly worth way more than he charges. It has been the best mod I've done and I've tried it all on a yz (except the estart which idk if I ever will). The hitlis works best with an apex sx head/dome after all my 'experimenting'.
Awesome build bro, what are your clicker settings? I got the same bike and like your suspension settings.
@@SirValak ooof hahah I couldn't tell ya! Soft compression (ish) and quick-ish rebound haha

This was super informative man. I am 2 years into writing and basically just do hair scrambles but I always love to hear about different people's setups and this was very well put together. thanks for taking the time. be safe! -Nick
Cheers! Appreciate the feedback!
Handlebar mounts -Mako 360 -dont raise bar height -lighter -full range of motion/absorption
Del Sagio fork mod -XR Kit for KYB -replaces high friction base reservoir with an air bladder ...
Airbox option -drill multiple 1/2 inch holes in number plate for added clean air, especially at 5k-10k plus altitude -also holes reduce airbox intake vacuum, reduces drawing dusty air from rear wheel well
Airbox in dry/ dusty conditions -seal /weatherstripping/ duct tape airbox to rear wheel well area... -dusty air gets drawn up from wheel well at open joints -(opening at bottom of airbox ahead of wheel well ok)
Apex Head/jetting -Apex lists a jetting chart for Keihin carb that works pretty well (32/1 mix)
Clutch/throttle cables -just replace them every season -keep levers clean
In the past I've tried the motion pro cables... they are okay, but I prefer the feeling of stock!
Chain guide -GYTR chain guide better -Bullet Proof Designs makes a reinforcement bracket
Will look into this!
You don’t try the hitlis system for the power valve ?
@luislozada6445 the hitlis wasn't even on my radar when I built this bike up... BUT I've heard a lot of really good things over the last few months. Really considering it for next season upgrade
Freaking awesome video! Do a straight YZ250 next maybe, it's got the correct gearing, just needs a 6th(c'mon Yamaha). I really enjoyed hearing the details of your setup, thanks!
@@kyleperrry thank you for stopping in!!
Great vid as always very professional. Is the apex really that worth it? Like you said you recommend it’s the first thing someone should put on their bike, but I just wouldn’t want to be disappointed by it by noticing little or no change.
@@notoriusmuskle1912 first thing IF you're looking for more power and you've already dropped a tooth on the front sproket. But yeah, as far as engine stuff, it works great and is noticeable
@ I’m also a bit in between domes with the XC and MX, heard some mixed reviews. I’m mainly riding very similar terrain to the stuff you got in PG, and I know u switched from the XC to the MX just because your a more aggressive rider. When you had the XC did you really have any massive regrets with it? And with the MX, did it give you the same pulling power and lug down low that XC claims?
@notoriusmuskle1912 both are strong and honestly I think you'll be happy with both... the sx is the only one that's too gnarly for technical offroad haha
Impressive video, well said, like the honesty. We have days of hard enduro trails right outside of NYC, u can see NYC from our trails. We even have legal -ish way to ride the bikes into the city. My dad did Erzberg. U should come ride with us...

NYC hard enduro sounds sick
Next time ur split it cases get a yz 3erd and take out the yzx 3erd gear and replace it it make the transition from 3ed to 4th so much better i dit it on my bike and love it. The 3erd gear on the yzx is a bit smaller the the yz
Doesn't make sense, the yz 3rd won't work, 3 vs 4 dogs so gears won't mesh.
