🔔😎 Rewatched 11/24 👍👍😎 Youre a good man. 🙏🇺🇸
Terry, I am a newby and would like to know how you keep the stones from loading up with aluminum ? THANKS - keep up the good work!
Stones don't really work that great on aluminum your best bet is to use a 40 or 60 grit sanding roll or a carbide bit when it comes to grinding aluminum , hope this helps you out and thanks for watching
Greetings Terry : Now thats a huge intake really nice work my friend: i heard you say something that really caught my attention: about cutting it in half : MOST PEOPLE WOULDNT DREAM ABOUT DOING SUCH A TASK : BUT I SEE THE BENIFITS :I HAVE CUT A FEW INTAKES BEFORE ONLY BC I USED TO WELD FOR A LIVING AND I CAN WELD ALUMINUM CAST IRON :STEEL :BRAZE ETC : IN FACT TERRY I AM IN THE PROCCESS OF CUTTING A GT 40 INTAKE FOR HIDDEN WORK AND WELD IT BACK TOGETHER AND YOU CANT SEE THAT ITS BEEN CUT :STEALTH MODE MY FRIEND I REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR TIME AND CHANNEL TERRY THANKS FOR SHOWING YOUR WORK AND HELPING THE YOUNGER GENS TO GAIN KNOWLEDGE AND TIPS FROM A OLD SCHOOL LIKE MYSELF :THE 460 WILL BE A GREAT MOTOR IMO - jimmy
Hi Jimmy I always look forward to hearing from you, you and a few others is the reason I keep doing this channel, it's a great thing when you can weld your own stuff that's why I use epoxy because I can't always weld everything we do I've had to hire some things out but so far I've had no problems but you never know when using epoxy, good luck with your intake i wish I could see it when your finished with it , thanks for watching and sharing your knowledge with us I appreciate it 😊 God bless you my friend
Cartridge roll using a drill? .....Hack😂
@lemonjello4328 yup I use a drill and so did warren johnson and he said they were the best heads he had , and it was good enough for our camaro to run 7.90s at 170 mph in a quarter mile 30 years ago with a standard bore 454 , and good enough for our mustang to go 9s in the quarter mile with a stock short block and ported E7 factory heads, and at least we do our own work and don't hire it done like most people do
1:04 performer edelbrock cam. TL;DR version.
Do you think welding a 1" or 2" spacer on top and getting a more tapered transition into the plenum would help, basically porting out the whole carb pad area and porting into the spacer
@kenbozarth2146 yeah Kenny that's my plan , thanks for watching

Do you have any sort of flow figures for any of your work?
Thats great for one or two ports, what about the other 17 corners that you cant get to?
@ford-speed if you follow the videos you would see the other side is gone through the same way, it has epoxy in alot of areas where I went through to open up the other side , I'll be showing more on this on a new video thanks for watching
Nice work Terry. Really looks great. Thanks for sharing. 👍🇺🇸👍
@edsmachine93 thanks Ed I always appreciate you watching
Hi Just a question. How long should the epoxy last and do you worry about it getting loose? Thanks. Andrew
@andrewburlock2653 hi Andrew you never know for sure if epoxy will break loose all you can do is prep the area well and using the epoxy that's made for the surface your applying it to , I've seen heads that have been around 40 years with epoxy still in them but that doesn't mean that I depend on it to do that , it's a last resort in my book , thanks for watching
A technique used is to 'key' the epoxy with holes drilled through in the areas you want to add filler. The holes are filled with the epoxy and hold it tight mechanically.
That 460 gonna be pulling that extra air down into the smash chamber to make it think the compression is a little better than it is.....giddyap!
@stuartwall8212 yeah Stuart it needs all the help it can get, if I don't like how it runs i know where there is a blower sitting on the shelf 😀 😆
@@terrygrover6440 😆😆😆 That will get the air pressure up, lol.
@stuartwall8212 yeah the air pressure or my blood pressure 😆 🤣 😂
Very nice! Some of the old intakes have the pronunciation for Wieand on the intake itself. "Y"-and.
@JimsFastbackGarage yes it is weiand, thanks for watching
Nice looking work Terry. I like the tip of using the sand roll the other way around, like an inverted taper burr 😊 -juhana
@juhanahuovinen yeah I did that intentionally to contour the shape I needed towards the back, thanks for watching and good eye by the way
Beautiful work! 😎👍
@MrBlitzkrieg1987 thank you appreciate it were going for power not pretty, thanks for watching
What kind of epoxy did you use?
@claytonstoolbox hi Clayton I just used fuel resistant jb weld this time I've never had a problem with it so far and I used it on my edlebrock rpm intake and it's been in there 10 or more years, thanks for watching
Everybody Ford60 waiting for that 385 to idle , already .😂.
@broke_dongle yeah I know hopefully will hear it one day it's been a rough year I'm behind on things , thanks for watching
nice work terry !!!
@bobcuomo5122 thank you Bob and thank you for watching
Awesome ,time well spent🤘🇺🇸
@christophergriffin8344 hello Christopher, yes there is alot of time in it for sure, thanks for watching
lol!! Lot of truth here. BBC is the biggest boat anchor I have ever seen. Cool sounding. But what a piece of garbage. 350 small block is crap. I can’t believe how many 283 killed a 350 on the track. I like 318 mopar. To me it’s more fun to see what happens when you put a part on . Doesn’t take long before you get it to start getting some power out of it. I like to drive my stuff and not have to work on it every time I get on it. I will say though you miss a gear bad it’s going to start knocking. Now days have rev limiters that would have been really nice in my day. You talk about the 307. Wow. The only thing you could use on it was the block.nice video.
Oh no Hahaha 🤣 good one I thought you were going to say push it off a helicopter
I did my 4cyl a coolant temp went down 9f with same thermostat.
Good tip thanks for sharing
Hi jim thanks for watching I appreciate it and commenting
Obviously a bachelor as it looks like he is porting an intake in his dining room!
No just an understanding wife who knows I have to get things done 😂thanks for watching
good video Terry. You are right, everything adds up and the little things do matter
Hello Jeff thank you for watching I appreciate it
Thank you for this "Cool" tip, Terry. Just to let your viewers know, the jog shape of the water ports and the bolt on either side of the 385s are meant to prevent head gaskets from failing. This is even more evident on early factory 351W heads and intake castings. Here, the water ports are actually "L"-shaped rather than the traditional rectangle and are also clamped by two intake bolts. Ford engineers deemed this arrangement to allow the ends of the cylinder heads/gaskets and corresponding head bolts to run cooler. Whether this was successful engineering is up for debate. Many subsequent Factory and aftermarket designs dropped this design. I've never had issues with either design but have only built N/A engines with safe over-bores and compression ratios of no more than 13.5:1.
Hey bill from what I've seen ford did more experimenting not being sure half the time if something was good or bad but I've never ran into any problems with any of their designs, thank you for watching and sharing your knowledge with us, I wouldn't know what to do with 13 to 1 compression oh wait a minute maybe I would I'd pick out the cam I want 😂😂
@terrygrover6440 Terry, you should try 13:1 sometime. You'll like it! BTW, I haven't run anything that high since the Pro-Stock days of the 1970s.
The heads have water jackets at both ends but the intake only has jackets at one end. I drill and tap for a fitting to draw coolant from both ends to double the circulation.
Hey joe yeah that's a good idea thanks for your comment and watching
Nice upgrade terry that is something overlooked a lot
Yeah it can't hurt from how I see it , thanks for watching appreciate it
It's all the details that make the difference ....thanks Terry
Thanks for watching Bob 👍
When using burrs try wax or trans fluid to coat burr when grinding to keep clean from clogging up.
Sometimes I do depends how much grinding I'm doing, thanks for watching
Great tips! Anything that increases engine efficiency is worth doing
Thank you I appreciate that little things I think help make a difference, thanks for watching
Great idea. I think it's time for you to upgrade to a video camera and a tripod.
Hi buck I just do what I can with what I have i make nothing off of these videos just giving tips to the guys out here , thanks for watching
Every bit helps. I did a similar thing on a brand new intake for the same reason. Water passage needed just a little help to be quite a bit better. Besides....that 460 has gotta get some love while it waits!
You know all the little tricks Stuart, appreciate you thanks for watching
That's really nice Terry. Cleaned that up nicely. The manifold looks great. Can't wait to see the truck run. Have a good evening. 👍🇺🇸👍
Thank you Ed, it's always a step closer I'll be happy to see this engine all back together, thanks for watching my friend
Nice to see I'm not the only one using a drill for porting. I feel I get a better cut using the slower speed. Perhaps I'm dumb but I think the water flowing easier will have less resistance to the water pump. Little things we don't really think about add up to horsepower, longevity, or efficiency. Keep up the awesome work Terry. Thanks for sharing.
All my reasons for doing this appreciate you watching and I do use lower speeds myself
Awesome video Terry!!! That’s a good tip!!! Hope your doing well!
Hey jd I'm doing good thanks for stopping in and seeing me i hope you and the family are doing well my son Adam is doing some videos you may like aluminum heads on 302
@ oh I do like some aluminum heads on a 302! 😂 I’ll have to check it out!!!
Be careful get a mask. You don't want silicosis. David Vizard warns about that. Thank you for the good tips. I have noticed that the shape of the combustion chambers are similar to old Pontiac heads except Pontiac has a machined half circle between intake and exhaust and that's what I'll be working on. One thing that puzzles me about Pontiac heads is the exhaust bowl has a lump of iron in it and I think I should grind it flat and make it like all the other heads but there must be a reason for it and I'm not sure what to do with it. Does it direct exhaust flow? Its weird. Thanks
why-and
This intake has been called every thing but the proper name , thanks for watching
Looks good Terry. Thats 2 manifolds in recent days.....My hands would be aching, lol. Take care mister.
My hands are aching Stuart but it's mostly from scratching my head 😂😂😂😂 thanks for watching my friend
👍😎 No more singing? YeeeHaaaaw.
yeah....encore!!!!!
😂😂 everytime I sing ray the dogs start howling out here one covered its ears with its paws 😂😂😂
Nice work Terry, this manifold is coming around nicely. I know he'll be a happy customer. 👍 Thanks for sharing. Have a good evening. 👍🇺🇸👍
Thanks Ed I'm hoping he will be happy with it is think it turned out really well considering how rough the casting was, appreciate you watching my friend
Good to see you back at it , I really enjoy your videos, I have a victor Jr that I'm going to send you, I'm going to let you have at it and do it your way. Last intake I ported I worked on it 2 hrs or more per day for exactly a month straight. So I'm going to let you hog this one out for me if you want to do it cause I like your aggressive porting and it's going to hafta feed a set of trickflow 11rs so the vic Jr has its work cut out for It but I know you can handle it. I may send you some sand rolls and a burr or 2 _if I can find them
Hi beans, most of the works in the plenum area in the vic Jr but I would surely do the best i could for you if you decide to send them , but I do charge my friends double 😂😂😂😂 thanks for watching appreciate you
Terry, what manifold you like better the weiand or the torker?
Bob its a toss up the excellerator offers a little bit more when it comes to porting for mild combos though they are both fine
🔔🔔😎 Stock Torquers flow about 210. Ill bet you helped it a lot👍 .
Hello Ray, yee haw 😂 were going to find out my friend, thanks for watching I always look forward to hearing from you
Going to choke out on fuel. 289
I see no reason for that to happen it has never done it before when I've done this work, that's what air bleeds and bigger jets are for , this combination should have a very strong signal , thanks for watching
You are a hero
Hello Richard, no hero here but I appreciate your support thanks for watching
Really nice video and your work will pay off ! Specially since you been rubbing and loving on those heads and intake thanks for posting my friend
Hello Jimmy hope your doing well my friend, it's been alot of work Jimmy will see how it runs after it's all together , I'm excited about this thanks for your support ,God bless
I tore down my 390 FE. The engine was set with the crank keyway 4 degrees counter clockwise from 12 oclock. I put the timing chain back on the exact same. I hope im not leaving power on the table.
I am a pro head porter in Canada. I like your passion and drive. Airflow is fascinating. So enjoy the jurney. It will work well. The changes you made to the intake are positive. By the way, I am a chevy guy. But honesty can hurt. Because ford heads are way better than chevy heads. The LS is a coppied ford rendering. With a little chev dna added. 😊
Hellooo Canada, I really appreciate you watching and commenting it's always nice to hear from fellow head porters, thank you for watching and taking the time to comment I appreciate it
nice work terry they will work as good as chevy heads now😁😁😁😁😁😁
Old man in hope they work better than chevy heads i wanna go fast 😂😂😂😂 you know I'm just kidding chevy always had the advantage when it comes to the heads accept for the cleveland which I don't use , hope you are doing well thanks for stopping in and saying hi
