And now that there is tesla supercharger access it makes stops faster and cheaper :). When towing its about the same and without towing it is almost 2x cheaper for road trips. Everyday driving is about 4x cheaper
Just picked up a pair of RADs on clearance and anxious to try them out next summer. I normally wear a 12.5-13 and these things are so tight, they feel like a size 11. Hopefully they pack out and stretch for me as you mentioned An idea for the gaffe tape flap issue is redo it but run the tape strips over the top edge of the cuff and then glue it down
@@adamkinowski2354 yeah I’ve found the Rads fit a little tighter than the spacemobs/zuupacks/ktvs because the toe is more closed up. I’m sure they will pack out some. Liner does for sure. I do think I’ll try and redo the tape. Maybe try Gorilla tape and run over the top as you said. Don’t want to just throw them out as the exterior is still good and that seems like a waste.
Hope you & Jerry have a a fun trip to Florida and the weather is good!
Looking good so far. Mid 70s and sunny :)
I have a 99 VLX It seems to me the top half of the hull was changed in 02. ( you can see the difference the way the windshield cuts into the body on the earlier) I’m curious if the newer design was any deeper then the prior.?
I believe the freeboard is the same 99-04. I know it’s the same SV23 hull. 05 was a total redesign and is a little taller. Still not nearly as tall as the modern boats though.
Hey man, very cool video! I've been riding the LF 6X boots with removable liner for a few seasons and now the liner shoe has really seen its best days.. But here's the problem, my binding itself is still in very good condition. I've looked high and low, even contacted LF hq, but I can't seem to find any places where they sell the removable boots separately. Which means in the end I have to buy the whole set and throw away a still perfectly good binding. I think only Slingshot offers some removable liner boots after market. What's your idea on this? Have you had this happen before? Should all brands that provide removable liner boots offer the possibility to buy the boots and bindings separately? Thanks man, loved your vid!
@@JanVinckx that’s too bad LF doesn’t sell a replacement liner. Yeah Slingshot does replacements for $50-100 depending on time of year. With HL Systems, you can always buy new boots. I don’t know if Ronix does replacements for theirs.
I get this question all the time from people, "Do I completely fill the gas tank or not for storage?" And my answer is yes to prevent condensation in the gas tank. Then I add the Stabil fuel stabilizer & drive the boat around a little on the trailer so the it mixes completely throughout the tank. And you're right about adding it & the running the motor for a minute or so to make sure it gets through the entire fuel system. Also, do you do anything for your trailer? I make sure my tires are fill to suggested PSI & park the trailer tires on carpet to save the life of the tires from just sitting on frozen concrete all winter.
@@ryanshimabukuro3283 good callout on the fuel tank. I do that too but forget it. I do make sure my tires are at pressure since I have to tow up to Willard to store. Beyond that I don’t do anything other than inspect the bearing hubs. I check those pretty much every time I tow though as I’m terrified of a bearing failure. Part of the reason I pay for lake storage.
@@ryanshimabukuro3283 also good callout on the concrete. I have heard on RV forums that long term concrete exposure can mess with the rubber. Supposedly it “draws out the oil in them, also can cause a flat spot and dry rot.” At least some say that. Quotes from a google search I just did. Maybe i’ll drive up with some carpet or wood soon 🧐
@@LifetimeShred I put down carpet last year in my storage unit so it's always om it.
Don’t forget to flush antifreeze thru the shower! Simply turn on the shower when the pink stuff is flushing thru. 🔫 I also stopped fogging in my EFI monsoon because it gummed up my injectors. Great video Rich!
So, I can use hyperlite system bindings with these newer slingshot boards?
@@anadebarros yeah you can. Inserts will line up fine. Before I switched to the space mobs, I had hyperlite lowbacks on a slingshot native with no issues
Great video as always bro! But were you talking about a wake park or something else? LOL Did you even realize some of the things you said???? Great info! Sorry about the fender bender, sucks dealing with this stuff.
@@wake_mann agreed! The non traditional car companies need to work on their service capabilities, but that’s a good reason to be in a GM truck.
@@LifetimeShred yes, this is one of the reasons I went for it, because GM is a big company with lots of support.
Great Video! There isn't a lot of good information out there on these early wake/surf boats so this is awesome. I have a 2003 23 LSV Wakesetter with the Diamond Hull. We love it for all the reasons you mentioned. We surf most of the time so I have 1000 lbs in each locker. I plan on keeping it for a few more seasons before upgrading, maybe some surf tabs. Thanks for your work on the video!
Thanks for the kind words. I love these older boats because being well kept they can just go and go. It's all about having fun on the lake regardless of budget. On the note of finding information, I like the "OG Wakesetter" group on facebook. Check it out if you haven't already. facebook.com/groups/952129868771174
So as someone who wants to get into wakeboarding, and can’t buy a boat yet. How do you meet people and get your name in the community? This video covers what to do if I get invited but how do I get invited? If that makes sense
Good question. Been thinking about making a video on where to find wake community but I think breaking it down I would do the following: join the "Wakeboarding Only" group on facebook as well as any wakeboarding groups that are local to you. Plus r/wake on reddit. Post that you would love to ride with anyone looking for extra riders and will do your part etc. Next, if you have a boat shop with a wake pro shop go there and get to know some of the people that work there. Often they are enthusiasts them selves. Also go to any events/demos etc they host. I've met some friends that way. After that, you could post on the old wakeworld find a third forum. It still gets some traffic. Lastly you could literally go to a lake with a sign that says "will pay gas for a set". I haven't done this myself but have heard of others that did.
Thanks for the shout out homie! Yes, it takes a lot of work to get & keep people on the water but I hope the effort is worth it to them? Our wakeboard community here in the Utah area is very healthy compared to other parts of the country, so from my perspective, it's definitely been worth it. One characteristic that is very important to me when being consider a reliable 3rd is don't be flaky! Either yes or no. If I hear the question, "how long are you going to be out for?" multiple times from the same rider, they usually get dropped to the bottom of the invite list. Maybe even off of it completely. Don't make it hard for the boat host/owner, especially if you're not a boat owner yourself.
Agreed on that one. Everyone’s schedule is busy and it’s important to commit when being on someone else’s schedule especially when it is a boat owner who shoulders the bulk of the costs.
@@LifetimeShred Exactly!
The one big tip that I think you missed is, be the guy or girl who always wants to go out. That means, you should be the person who is willing to say yes 90% of the time when a boat owner asks if you want to go out. So even if you feel "a little bit tired" or "the weather is a little bit chilly," you should force yourself to go hang out. Life is for the living. As a boat owner, it is crazy how hard it is sometimes to find people who want to go boating and have fun.
@@collin9085 that’s a good callout. If you say no too often you get forgotten about. Agree too that boat owners and thirds need eachother. There are some non boaters in our broader crew here in utah that are vital to making sure we all get out a lot.
🔥🔥
I prefer a narrow wake. It means you don't have to full send every trick. Makes learning new tricks easier. I already ride with a 55' line and 5' handle. Also, I would say that most all boats seem to be pretty easy to do basic maintenance. The big concern with integration is that it creates complexity and future obsolecense issues. I have a heyday. If you want something that's basically obsolescence proof, Heyday is probably it. I believe it's the only boat still made today that doesn't need a touch screen to fully function. I don't think I could ever justify a 200k boat. Moomba seems to be pretty good wakeboard wake on the max I tried. Axis has a good wake, but there are a few things that just really turn me off about buying an axis.
Thats a good point on width. I find in general I adjust after a few sets. First set can always be a little strange though. Yeah the screens can be issues but I do think the modern screens are better than the ones 10 years ago that died often. Regardless I am glad to have backup buttons on my A22. Also agree 100% that $200k is a hefty pill to swallow, regardless of how sick the wake was. Maybe even more disgusting was that the 2025 G23 (non paragon) I rode later that day somehow was $400k on paper. Crazy town. All this said, there is a 2018 SA 550 listed near me for $103k. I think something like that with an aftermarket warranty is probably the ticket if you have to have a “pro” wake. I’m happy with my A22 for now as I am sure you are with the Heydey. So far it has treated me decent. Planning to make a thorough ownership review video sometime this fall.
On the maintenance side, the newer Supra's with surf locker are dead simple to winterize and service. Pull the surf locker panel, open engine hatch, open trans hatch and everything is right there. Oil changes take about 30 minutes start to finish. Winterize in about 15 minutes. Couldn't be easier. I have an 18 SA and done about all my own work. Nice riding. Thanks for the review.
Great to know! I like that about my current A22 and it sounds like this is also engineered to be easy. My next boat is leaning toward a Supra for sure. The wake shape is right up my alley and at least here in Utah they have one of the best dealers representing them.
@@LifetimeShred living in Knoxville, fortunate to get to ride a lot of the local built boats. Had 2 A22s, and yes their wake is great, but there's just something about Supra. The A24 throws down for sure, but for me, steering clear of any Malibu or Axis built in the last few years. Not sure what's going on over there. The G wake is nuts as you said, but really too much for me (and way outta my price range when considering a new boat in the next couple years)
Great review bro! When are you going to make the switch? LOL! I'm surprised you guys didn't fully ballast the back since that SV had the 550 motor. Slam that bitch down and see what she's got, haha! Any brand nowadays, you have to be concerned about service & maintenance on them because of all the computerization & so many moving parts underwater now. Who was your guys driver for that demo?
@@ryanshimabukuro3283 I was worried about the front to rear ratio with so many people in the cockpit and none in the bow, but wake was great! Can’t remember the drivers name but was a younger guy. Super nice. My favorite driver of the day for sure. Not ready to exit the A22 yet but next boat will either be an Axis A245 or a Supra SA I think. Rode the 2025 G23 wake too there. Thing was a monster but I think shape-wise I prefer a juiced Supra hands down. Said it in the video but Im impressed with the general maintenance on my A22. Really couldn’t be easier for normal stuff (winterize, oil, impeller etc)
@@LifetimeShred Should have thrown 1-2 people up in the bow to balance having full ballast in the back. I'm surprised to hear the wake was narrow since most shorter boats with the wider beams have wider wakes? Yeah, having easy access to the motor for maintenance & winterization is such a bonus!
@@ryanshimabukuro3283yeah wake was good as is but I am sure it has more potential. Wouldn’t call it narrow across all boats but the g23 I rode after was wider. I guess in terms of newer boats it was on the narrow side, but not historically. If I had one I’d probably just ride a couple clicks slower than I do today.
Interested in what you think of the new announced 2025 hyperlite sender - JB ONeil's new boat board. I looks very similar to the Murray with some improvements (maybe). I'm still loving my Murray but might buy one next summer and keep the Murray as the guest board.
@@JeepingNet great question. I messaged JB about it and he called it a Murray on steroids. I like it has the rounded edges between the bindings like the Murray. It’s listed as a full 3 stage, but in JB’s video he mention it is 3 stage but not overly aggressive. I’d like to demo The Sender for sure. If I get a chance to, I’ll make an initial thoughts video!
Fixed 4 manual pumps in the past doing it the same way.
The savings are nice!
nah. don't. i tried - the 2023 space mob liner barely fits into 2023 rad shell when you try to squeeze it in with hands. if on foot - it just doesn't fit in. not working. glued the liner back. just buy stock space mob or 2025 rad and sell the pre-2025 rad's.
What size do you have? I know with my 9s I think the actual shell slingshot uses is 8-10. Wonder if the fit becomes a bigger issue if you are at the top of the shell size. I’ve ridden the ones I did a few times and they feel good. A little more snug in the toe but otherwise normal.
@@LifetimeShredit’s exactly 9. and yes the toe is the biggest issue - I’d need to take off the liner, sit down and squeeze it in with hands and then put my foot back in..
@@FuriousNarim Yeah, I could see that. I have a more narrow foot so didn't impact me as much. That said, I think since the space mob shell has the gummy strap up there it allows that space to open up more, making the Rad feel tighter in comparison. I wonder how the 2025 Rad will fit with the new removable liner.
Bruh why you 360 off everything💀
That is awesome!!!
Heel side back roll was mine !

Usually I'm bummed that so few people are into watersports in Jacksonville. But on the Brightside, I don't have too many rollers to contend with that it could ruin a whole afternoon. haha I can't believe it was already wetsuit season 2 months ago for you.
Yeah, I debate that too. I like the community but a glassy lake for just you and your crew is special. We only escape wetuits riding mornings in Utah from basically 7/1 - 9/1 unless you are into cold therapy haha.
We drive 1.5 hours for glass, but it's worth it. 90° air 70+° water

I wish OWC had some more features like this. I think Valdosta has some obstacles more like these. I should really make a trip out there some time.
Yeah a lot of the features are home made from other older features that they bought from parks that shut down. Worth a trip though. The cable is fun plus in general the Fruita/Grand Junction area has other awesome outdoor stuff too like hikes/mountain biking.
Looks like you all had some great conditions for some great shredding. Awesome to see all the ladies getting out there as well, ripping it up!
@@ryanshimabukuro3283 yeah it was a blast. Feeling in my muscles but I like to think that is just weakness leaving the body 😂

I would go us 9 if you’re a euro 42. The intuition liner will break in / mold and be perfect. 10 will be loose after break in

The original Pineapple Man, loved it! And the Wedge first came out in 1997 as an option on all their boats. First one I rode was the summer of 1997 on a Malibu Response in Wisconsin. Malibu hadn't perfected how to attach it to the gelcoat yet and this one got torn off while we were riding.
Yeah I remember reading some threads about that happening. Yeah PM1 was great.
Love this video ! Great info
Sold riding, new sub here. When that x star came out it was a game changer until the G hit. Great content!!! I'll add do this any boat that you're talking about if it makes a good wakeboard wake it will also make a great surf Wave with a surf device.
Thanks man! Yeah the G is hard to beat in the current gen of boats. I do like the Supra SA a lot too though for the wakeboard wake.
Hey man, I just got into wakeboarding and have been really enjoying your videos. I’ve been heavily into snowboarding for almost 20 years so even though I’m new to wakeboarding, I feel pretty comfortable on the board already. I just bought my first ever board, the Hyperlite Blueprint. I got a crazy good deal on it, that’s the main reason I chose it. After watching this video, I feel like I should’ve gone for something more classic / basic like this Murray board. It’s not too late for me to exchange it. What’s your honest opinion. Did I screw up and buy the wrong board for a new wakeboarder, or will I be just fine given my board sports background?
Hey thanks for watching. In terms of the Blueprint, I haven't ridden it, but majorly respect Trevor Maur's riding. Comparing the two boards, I would imagine the Blueprint to ride slightly faster than the Murray due to continuous rocker but have a little less instant pop at the wake. Also seeing it is wider in the tips but narrower in the waist than the Murray. Not sure how that effects riding dynamics. I do like that it has the beveled edge kind of like the Murray. With the Murray, it is only between the bindings, whereas the Blueprint it is the whole edge. Both boards will be able to butter/ride loose but I imagine the Murray can lock an edge easier when carving into the wake. Anyway, I don't think you screwed up but most riders can't go wrong on the Murray. Might be worth swapping it out if it isn't a ton of work. I like to point out that a few Hyperlite riders who don't have a boat pro model (JB Oneill, Kane Ward) ride the Murray by choice. It's a great board most will enjoy.
Why not a Supra launch ?
Which years are you thinking? I've ridden a 04 22' SSV and 07 21V a good amount. Both wakes were decent but in my mind not on the same level as the 2nd gen Xstar and LSV etc of that era. Agree though it deserves an honorable mention, especially if we drop budget to the $35-40k range. Might have another video there.
@@LifetimeShredhow about the 24 ft supra? 05-10. Offers the 8.1. Currently have a 06 20 ssv. Just a little small and growing out of it as a wakeboard/wakesurf boat. Has been a great first towboat. Looking to stay in a boat that's more analog with low amounts of tech that just break. Have been looking at 24 ft launch as it's what im familiar with. Never ridden one though
Have been looking at it or a first gen moomba mojo
@@Freydale i haven’t ridden the 24 but I imagine it builds on the 22. That said, bigger boats take more ballast to weight them down. I would join the Moomba forum and ask around there. For some reason the supra forum is kind of dead and the moomba forum covers supra and moomba - forum.moomba.com
Bro, i like your video. But it's 2024, use a proper mic if you want to record inside an echo chamber.
For sure. I normally do them outdoors just off the gopro, but agree the indoor echo is bad with just the gopro. Need to either just stick to the outdoors or upgrade.
Honestly, I would recommend a 2019 or 2020 heyday WT2. I would much rather have the newer boat with fewer potential issues. Pretty decent wake too. Sooo many people I know with these older boats have lots of reliability issues. I would also probably go with the Malibu or Axis over the mastercraft. I'm not a fan of super rampy wakes. But to each their own. But as you said, you were chasing gremlins in your older boat, and that has always been my anecdotal experience.
@@collin9085 I’ve been interested in riding a Heydey. I respect Dylan Miller as a rider and he reps them. Are they bow $50k at this point? I think with older boats it often comes down to the individual boat, how it was maintained and how handy you are with fixing things. I do think they are less complicated than a recently out of warranty newer boat though. I feel you on wake shape. I prefer a Malibu/Axis shape over mastercraft’s ramp but I get why some people love it.
@@LifetimeShred Many of the people who bough a WT2 in 2020 bought them for 50 to 60k in the first place. So yeah, getting it for 50k and only have like 150 hours (or less) on the boat is definitely doable. I honestly think the wakeboard wake is pretty comparable to an axis.
Great video !! I have a Hyperlite Premier 143 board and bindings that are from the 2005/6 era. The board is still great but the internal fabric on the bindings is shredded. I believe the plate spacing has changed since 2012 ish. Is there any way to get new bindings that will fit my older board ?
Hey good question. So this gets interesting. The spacing did change around 2010. In addition, boards switched from standard to metric screws. I know there are adapters for some newer bindings but you might need to use some of your hardware from the old ones to screw into the board. To get specific though, I would hit up the vintage wakeboard collectors group on facebook. I think they would know the most. facebook.com/groups/811305878982913
I'd add that unless you are totally tied to the old board, it might be worth considering something new. Bunch of great deals out there right now.
@@LifetimeShred thank you. I just joined 🤙🏻
I just grabbed last year's brand new from overton's for $160. I'm pushing 50 and the features on this is exactly what I want. Easy to play with and forgiving. I'm riding a Dowdy right now, which is pretty similar actually, but it is too small for me. This was a really handy review, and I also love Shaun. Dude rocks.
That's awesome. Glad it was helpful. I saw that deal as well. Almost feels like they are just giving them away. Glad you were able to snag one!
Great video, bro with great shots from all angles! In a lot of ways, the older generation boats out-perform the new generation because they were so much more reliable. Yes, the new boats have a lot of things that are more automated (no more filling ballast bags with manual pumps, surf systems to also help planing out when under load, etc) but they also breakdown a lot more because of the extra moving parts underwater & the computerization of the helm. Maintenance costs have certainly gone up with that as well. But in the end, the wakes are much better, but the question is, is it worth the significant increase in price/costs?
I think that is an excellent point. My wedge has been doing some weird stuff the past few times out. Basically slips out of lift mode into position 1, sometimes 2 when getting on plane. I think the actuator might be wearing out. It still holds in 3 when up to speed though. Going to see if I can ride it out till fall and then bring it in for warranty work. I think the newer boats are almost terrifying to own without warranty. As you said, so much tech but so much that can break. If I keep my A22 longer run, I hope I can find a good after market warranty. What's crazy there too is the complexity of an Axis isn't even near some of the more luxury boats. I'd say there is a market for a no frills to the point wake machine, but I think the hardcore rider and I'd dare say even hardcore wakesurfer are a small group. In my opinion, most new wake boats are sold for casual surf use/family outings/icons of wealth and the tech/extra stuff goes with that, especially the last one. We don't all need electric telescoping towers with mist machines, stern thrusters, tons of trim tabs, automated settings, etc but people keep paying for them. On another note, I'd love to see the 8.1 or a diesel engine in newer boats. The current powerhouse supercharger engines have a lot of tech in them too we rely on.
@@LifetimeShred I know that Nautique had a diesel model a couple of years ago (Scott Bouchard had one). But haven't heard of anyone else who had one, so maybe the added cost of the diesel engine didn't outweigh the potential gas savings & performance benefits?
@@ryanshimabukuro3283yeah good point. Might be due to availability on lakes too
Your trampoline looks wild! I have a 2015 g23 and my buddies have a 18 moomba Max, 19 axis a22 and we all love the G23 wake the best.
Yeah G23 remains the king. I’s day that or a 2016+ Supra SA. Can’t get one for under $50k but starting to see the older ones in the 75-85 range! Yeah the tramp is a springfree model. Fun for my kids but fun for me too.
This is awesome! Great review. Seems like an excellent boat for an affordable price point. You put out great content. I'd love to see a video on the best wakeboard boats under $10k featuring an MC Stars and Stripes or '80s Nautique 2001.
@@joshuaboyle7585 I appreciate that! That would be a fun video if I had access to them. At one point in time circa 2013 I was seriously eyeing an 80’s 2001 as my first boat. As I am sure you know, the original Super Sport / SAN210 hull was modeled on the 2001. The wood stringers scared me away but if you could find one with them redone, hard to argue there is a cheaper boat out there that you could still throw down on. I ended up saving up and bought an 03’ VLX in 2015 as my first boat.
@@LifetimeShred The VLX is an excellent first boat! I have an '88 2001 with redone stringers and fully equipped for wakeboarding. Hit me up if you're ever in AZ!
@@joshuaboyle7585 awesome. Sounds like it is dialed!
Hi man, I'm wearing size 44/45 on ronix, what size do you recommend on slingshot bindings?
@@danielgov8015 which ronix binding? If it is one of the ones with individual sizes, I would get the same size as your Ronix. For example, I ride a size 9 us mens in both the slingshot rad/space mob and ronix one.
@@LifetimeShred The Ronix Atmos model, I saw on the size charts of Ronix and Slingshot that the CM is entirely different based on each size. On Ronix Atmos I wear size US 11
@@danielgov8015 im not as familiar with the atmos. What does your foot measure from heel to tip of longest toe in cm? Best way to measure is pit down sheet of paper against a wall, stand on it with heel against the wall, make longest toe with a pencil. Then measure edge of paper to that line. Need to make sure heel and paper are tight against the wall though.
Bro, I couldn’t do that to a pair of $500 Sling bidings😳
I only paid $170 on clearance. If you’re paying full price, I’d just get the space mobs
Fancy that, I'm also 5'11 175lbs. I'm looking at getting a Murray for my first personal board. I've only ever ridden family members rigid Ronix boards with taller center fins and sharp tri edge ends. Interested in feeling a smoother bottom. Thanks for sharing your knowledge
@@Hman9876 it’s a great option!
I say HS back roll, I tried and will let you know how it goes next time I try it 😂
I want to see!
Long time no see! Good job Mike 🤘🏼🤘🏼
Hopefully soon. Going to an ortho this week to see if my arm has healed enough to ride again.
Aww come on man, take it on the noggin like a man!!! Haha, just kidding! Great info video bro!
@@ryanshimabukuro3283 thanks man. That one S1 helmet video I referenced really opened my eyes up that the soft foam helmets aren’t that great other than being comfortable.
Hey Rich, would love to get out with you guys if you ever need a third!
Yeah for sure. DM me on facebook so I have your number. Mostly riding EC but occasionally Echo + Jordanelle.
Id really like one with brighter colors so other boaters can see my boys down. Anything remotely possible of being slightly more safe. No. All the big names are black 🙄
Yeah I agree too much black. I do have an older capella vest that is grey but that doesn't help a ton. If you can find the Ronix Megacorp capella vest the front is bright at least.
