I give no leeway to a company that fumbled the ball so drastically at the CP2077 launch and lied to customers. Yes, they earned back the good will for that game over time, but that fumble meant that anything they do is worth questioning. I am not only skeptical, I am uninterested in this game. For me, "The Witcher" series began with Witcher 1, and ended with Witcher 3. Whatever this is, until further information is out and the company *PROVES* that it is good, it's just fanfiction at an incredibly high cost that I am not willing to help bankroll. At least not yet, and possibly not ever. The people who are baffled at the lack of hype from normal customers are themselves baffling.

Witcher 4 is happening years after the books. Thu mutagens and the trial of the grasses itself were already imperfect at the time Geralt undertook it in Kaer Morhen. There are other schools though. There are also sorcerers who could help Ciri. Ciri has knowledge from other universes as well. Among those three, I feel like it would be plausible to find a way for safer trials. As long as the writers acknowledge that it is unusual, I'm fine with Ciri or even other female witchers.

I think people misinterpret IMPROBABLE with IMPOSSIBLE. It is NEVER stated that it's IMPOSSIBLE for females and/or adults to become witchers, it's just highly unlikely. I sincerely cannot understand why something IMPROBABLE happening is such an issue for some people. I also think that people tend to forget the hand that fed them. When did CDPR disappoint in the narrative department? As broken as CP77 and Witcher 3 to an extent were, they're both masterpieces that just needed more time to develop. Most of the team that worked on cyberpunk is working on the Witcher IV. That said and the fact that CDPR, even though they botched and lied in regards to CP77, they delivered their promisse to finish CP77 and deliver an amazing game. That's why it's a bit outlandish to me that people cannot give a single grain of benefit of doubt to CDPR, even more so now because they need to make sure to deliver an S tier product in order to maintain/regain their credibility and trust.

If this is an attempt at a straight substitution of Ciri for Geralt it is NOT going to work. Hopefully they will be far more nuanced than that. The bulk of the W3 crowd have left CDPR including the writers and creative director, Maher was only hired in 2023 and the ridiculous things he's been saying are worrying. The jury is still out of course but I am NOT liking what I've seen so far.

The two things I don't like about Witcher 4 is that Ciri looks like 40 year old botoxed up woman and that one dev that can't understand that antagonizing your consumers is not a good thing.

The game looks good, it's just like every other first trailer, meaning that it usually seems a little unfinished. The only reason the process doesn't work on girls (cliff notes version) is because magic/science takes time, the magic first worked on boys. So, lots of dead little boys don't cause that much of a fuss in the medieval world. A bunch of dead little girls causes more of a fuss. In the books there is famine, war, and stuff like that so women are _not dead,_ make more babies, and help the population in the context of that world. The mutagen would work on girls if they used as many girls as boys, but due to girls having more cultural value, they opted out of that. It's like... right there in the lore, it says it in the context of the story viewed from the perspective of the characters. Anyone could take five minutes of a Google search and find that out. It's not a mystery, not a controversy, and not a thing to get all worked up about. But anyway, folks are just making hate bait and cashing in. And the fans have concerns, but it's not that she's a girl or that there could be girl witchers. The concern from actual fans is about _why_ would one of the most powerful humanoids (Ciri) who can teleport, and fight hella good, is pretty much half a Witcher and a half already subject herself to the process when that doesn't seem all that necessary. That's the issue that needs ironing out, not the... other stuff. That other stuff is just noise for haters to hate on. But you know, the answer would be interesting to know. Anyway... take care! Just know it's not really both sides sort of thing or a misunderstanding _some_ folks are either just lying for the coin or being wilfully ignorant on purpose.

It's good that the fans jumped the gun from day one. That jumping of the gun sent a clear signal to CDPR as soon as humanly possible. And the devs heard it. At the end of the day, all that fans have the ability to do is to signal. They signaled. I bet the executives that funded Concord would have loved a signal before they spent all of that money on that disaster.

I'm Polish. If you actually read the Witcher books in Polish there is no mention of any female Witchers in the novels, so as far as I'm concerned there is no Witcher 4. PERIOD.

I think some people are just jumping to hate the decision because of how much content has had it rammed down our throats that a female main be shoved down our throats. A good ammount of people criticising this (obvious) choice havent even played the games or read the books and are just talking out frustration with their logic that "women protagoinst in 2024=woke, propaganda, DEI, karen" and whatever they can throw in. If you take a character model who is a 10 and you remodel her so that she's an 8 she may still be beautiful but nonetheless uglification has occured. The thing is the artists and people who had oversight on the artists knew exactly what they were doing. Somebody at that studio said make her uglier than she was. The reasons people are "jumping the gun" is that they don't want another series to went the way of "current thing" and turn into shit. And there were recently several things from CDPR that point out to them committing to the clown fiesta that is real world socio-political garbage. Such as subsidizing young game developers - but only female ones. This is an occasion where you rather be vocal and over-react to something, than to stay quiet.

CDPR said picking Ciri will allow them to fight sexism in the Witcher world 🤮. I can already see the marketing: "Join Ciri as she topples the patriarchy and fights for Queer rights."

I have countless hours in video games, from middle school to now as a junior in college I have spent the large majority of my free time playing video games. I also played college football for 2 years, played three sports through middle school and high school competing in state for throwing junior and senior year as well as many football awards, I graduated valedictorian and have over a 3.8 GPA as an engineering major in college, I worked an internship in the oil field last summer and have another internship next summer. Not only do I prove that video gamers aren’t all lazy bums, I attribute a lot of my success to the skills and lessons learned while playing games.

I do agree that a lot of western-made games as of late have been bad. but I'm tired of people pretending that it's just because of the "woke DEI propaganda, the women aren't pretty enough" garbage everybody loves to spout nowadays. If games were bad because of "DEI", then Marvel Rivals wouldn't have an audience at all. Concord didn't fail because of "DEI", it failed because it was a visually unappealing game. No unique art style, a very dated and ugly 70's sci-fi aesthetic, uninteresting character personalities, and gameplay that we've seen done better for over 8 years. It's very telling of somebody's priorities and personality when they complain about a character's race, or physical appearance before the actual quality of the playable product.

AAA market has always been ripe with nothing but half baked projects. Remember PS3 era? Everything being brown and black? Yeah. It's been there since even before then. Chasing trends instead of priortizing actual fun, that's the issue with AAA. Playing it safe so they can rack up the money because their assets are being overcharged for (aka they're more expensive than they should be). Today's tech makes it easier to make complex games, but the greedy studios still charge a ton of money for assets, even if the assets are as generic as some high quality rock models and textures. Yeah, that's the real issue. The publishers and investors will pressure the developers to release games at certain times to "maximize profits". There you go, another layer. All of that stuff is why things are the way they are. Eastern devs also fall for these things, but not nearly as often. The biggest offender is Square Enix. They chase every single new tech trend no matter how much people dislike it. Konami is another, they moved from mostly gaming to sticking their gaming icons to pachinko machines. They're just as greedy over there. The difference is guys like Capcom actually learn from the audience being mad over a game and they listen, while someone like Squenix will just write an actually successful game as a failure because it didn't exceed the previous game sales. There's that too.

We're witnessing the controlled demolition of the North American video game industry and the exporting of creativity to the far east. It's the investors who command the ideology from the studios and hire the people to enforce it. All the money these corporations are losing is going into the pockets of their people. Companies like BlackRock are heavily invested in Asia. The biggest promoters of this doomed to fail ideology are reddit and they themselves have a 6.47% stake in Tencent. The only thing stopping western developers making games the western audience wants is the investors.
