Just a little spot on the internet for us to share our camping experiences, products and modifications with others.
Remember one thing, regardless of what camping gear you buy, the amount of use you get from that gear is directly related to how long it takes you to set up and pack up 👍

AusCamping - 12V Vacuum Sealer
We’ve been thinking about the value of a vacuum sealer for some time now then stumbled across a dual voltage 12V/240V unit on our travels and decided to give it a go.
This is quite possibly the best appliance we have ever added to our camping gear. Now we can by larger packs or in bulk and repackage in single meal portions. Everything takes up less room in the fridge and it lasts a lot longer than it used to in ziplock bags or cling wrap plus we save money buying larger meat packs.
Highly recommended, wish we had bought one sooner.

AusCamping - Leaking Water Tank Fitting

So, one of our water tank outlet fittings cracked and we were loosing water. Normally this would be an easy fix, just replace the fitting. But we were already away from any major cities so we had to search for what was available. Happy days when we found Whyalla Hose & Fitting Services and some solid stainless steel replacement fittings. Sorry about the audio quality, we had to improvise while ...
AusCamping - Meetup with Nicolai Bangsgaard

Australia has heard about “the crazy Danish guy” that was crossing the Nullarbor on a kick scooter, but that’s only a very small part of Nicolai’s story. Hey, guess what, he didn’t die (as many social media cynics predicted) and he’s not crazy at all. We had the pleasure of spending an evening with Nicolai and discovered a gentle, caring, softly spoken man with a dream and a drive to do what so...
AusCamping - Levelling up or Levelling down?

It’s second nature for most people, grab the ramp, put it under the low side and drive on to level up. But sometimes, it’s actually easier and better to “Level Down”. This is our quick tip for Levelling Down on soft surfaces.

AusCamping - replacing USB outlets with PD + QC3 outlets
Просмотров 816Год назад
USB outlets are definitely useful in a camper or caravan, charging phones and other small gadgets, but if you still find yourself carrying an array of cigarette style plug adapters to charge your laptop or 240v adapters for higher current items like tablets, HomePod mini etc. Then you’ll love the versatility of USBC/PD and QC3 outlets.
AusCamping - Arctic Campers Frost 13

While we were in Melbourne, we dropped in to see Arctic Campers and their new Frost 13. Something new, something different and definitely something to keep an eye on if you’re shopping for a new camper. This looks like a company that really could shake up the caravan industry. With a firm eye on quality, innovation and customer service, their new designs are already paving the way of their intent.
AusCamping - DO35 Hitch Lock

Do you do day trips away from your camper trailer or caravan when camping? Hitch Locks are a simple solution to provide additional security and piece of mind. Of course, nothing will stop a determined thief, but a hitch lock is a great visual deterrent. We also use a wheel clamp for additional security at home.

Power up your USB charging game with these ideas. Sick of the nightlight glow from your USB outlets? No problem, just get some of these “No LED” replacements. Get rid of many of your 240v charge adapters and charge your laptop, tablet and many others directly from your 12v system by replacing some of your standard USB outlets with higher powered PD outlets. This is the easiest clip I’ve seen to understand the system, I’m still confused how to fill up the Truma tank with water when it’s empty.
Thanks for your feedback and question. Between minutes 2:30 - 3:00 I explain how to make sure it is full. In summary, either hook up to mains water or turn your water pump on if you are not connected to mains, then operate the valve as I do in the video to bleed out all the air. Once you see a bubble free stream of water exiting the water heater, you have filled the system.
great video, thanks! how do i tell if my unit is full of water?
Hi and thanks, see the previous video on general usage of the Tuma Hot Water System ruclips.net/video/2UrJRFwhBCg/видео.htmlsi=8E_uXmyjCP-SLvnb
Great video mate. I also watched the other hot water video as it was extremely helpful. I do have a few questions: 1: if I’m at a caravan park and the truma switch is in the middle position. It won’t use the gas at all? Would that be correct? 2: should I empty the hot water system while travelling? Or, is it safe to keep water in the unit? 3: should you switch off the unit when not using? Or, is it safe to keep on? Last one, mate: does the hot water unit automatically fill up with water when I turn on the pump while off grid. Or, connect to mains while at caravan park? I appreciate you taking the time to create those videos.
Hi Alek, nice to hear that the videos have been helpful to you, if you are doing your own review, please consider crediting our original videos in your comments 🙂 I'll copy and paste your original questions for clarity of answers; 1: if I’m at a caravan park and the truma switch is in the middle position. It won’t use the gas at all? Would that be correct? CORRECT - the rocker switch remains in the centre position if you wish to heat via power rather than gas. Note, if you are plugged into power and also use the rocker switch, then you will be heating with both gas and the electric element. Handy for rapid heating when you first arrive at camp, but turn the gas rocker switch off (middle position) once the water is up to temperature if you wish to conserve gas. 2: should I empty the hot water system while travelling? Or, is it safe to keep water in the unit? SAFE - you can keep the hot water system full while traveling but definitely empty it if you live in a climate that is likely to freeze the water when in storage. I also prefer to empty the unit when in storage so the water does not stagnate, but when we are on the road travelling from place to place, we do not empty the system between campgrounds. 3: should you switch off the unit when not using? Or, is it safe to keep on? DEPENDS - this depends on what you mean by "not using". If you are in storage and not using, then Turn it off. If you are camping and want hot water available at any time, then leave it on. Right now, we are living in our van full time and off grid, We have found that we save gas if we turn it off when not required and it only takes 15 minutes to heat up for a shower or to wash dishes, so in the interest of gas savings, we have only been turning it on when needed and turning it off at other times. 4: Last one, mate: does the hot water unit automatically fill up with water when I turn on the pump while off grid. Or, connect to mains while at caravan park? NO - if the system has air in it then you MUST bleed that out as shown in our video. It is not a self bleeding system. If you keep it full between moves and don't allow it to drain, then you can turn your pump on at the next stop and use it without bleeding, but if you haven't used it for a while or you have turned a tap on and drained water without having the pump on or water pressure attached, then it is a good idea to pop the bleed valve and make sure you don't have any air in the boiler tank. Safe travels Craig & Anett
@ your the best. I will definitely do a review like yours once I get my new van. I will also refer your channel in the video and description. I’m in Victoria and will be on the road around Xmas. I hope to see you around
@@JustAnotherReviewwithAlek let us know if your on the west coast, we are just about to start building at Sunset Beach WA (near Geraldton) and will focus on that for a while before we go back on the road.
We recently bought a new OP2, and every time we put it up, it leans to the kitchen side of the trailer. To get the tent up correctly, we have to climb inside to physically push the air beams into place. This video and many other online shows the tent going straight up with minimal manual adjustments. Any thoughts on how to address this
Very super❤
Another awesome video Craig and Anett. Could you please give the dimensions of the couch part inside(Luca's bed) could a small child use as a bed?
Big enough for a child’s bed we think. Although, if your small child follows Luca’s progression, they will soon find their way onto the main bed and snuggled up between mum and dad 😂😂😂 1500 x 800 mm is the size of the (now vacant) Luca bed 😂
@AusCamping many thanks, really appreciate the reply. Binge watching all your great videos. Hope you are still enjoying the CX3 Pro. Regards Max
@@whatupg1 Cheers Max 🍻 still love the van design, in fact, we have moved to WA and are living in the van while we build a house. Starvision is not real good with after sales service and customer support, many customers in the owners groups on Facebook complaining about poor customer service which is a bit disappointing. But if you’re happy to DIY as we are, then it doesn’t really affect you. I do feel sorry for the people who are unable to DIY and are getting messed around with poor support and service.
What if the red light comes on after 30 mins? Does that mean it’s at temp and waiting to be used or it’s gone out again?
Red light always indicates that it has gone out 😢
extremely useful Richard, Newcastle
Thanks Richard, glad it was helpful
Such a shame weber didn't come up with a better solution. The standard thermocouple valve in any other device like a stove is such a simple and elegant solution, no need for a $200 bulky box and addition power input. Regardless, enjoy your vids mate, you are well spoken and seem very clued up
Cheers, thanks for your kind comment
Hi Craig, great vid! I'm currently looking at CX3 Pro or the Bluewater Expedition - leaning towards the CX3 for better value but the payload is lower (450kg - fill the water tanks makes it 250kg? compared to the expedition at 650kg). Have you ever weighed your caravan once it's fully loaded? I've got two kids so guessing I might need kgs. Thanks again for all the vids its been very helpful!!
Yes we have weighed at full load including full water tanks, we were 60kg under maximum weight. We still love the cx3 design but after sales service and customer care has been very disappointing from Starvision. Have a look at the Starvision groups on Facebook for opinions from other owners.
Shame the lock is a tubular lock - they're one of the least secure locks available.
Can u use grey water tank 2 use fresh water
@@PatrickCARUANA-q8g you would need to change the drain plumbing on the internal shower and both sinks as they are connected to the grey water tank. You already have 200 litres of fresh water capacity and if you have a look at our “water management” video, I show you how we carry an additional 110 litres and refill our water tanks when we are off-grid
Oh my what a lot of stuffing around with the annex, although I'll use the skirt around the bottom, that's a good idea 👍
@@tonylander3512 it’s pretty easy once you’ve done it a few times. Also much easier once you upgrade to the Aussie Traveller Anti Flap Kit (see our video on that). We don’t bother with the annex for overnight or weekend trips (sometimes put one wall up as a wind break) but if we are staying somewhere for a few days or more, then the annex can be a huge bonus in poor weather. We are currently living in our van while we are organising a new home build and wouldn’t want to be without the extra weatherproof space 👍 It takes me about 20 minutes to complete the whole skirt and annex on my own.
thanks for this video!!!~
No problem
All good explained here, with one exception. How do I know the PCB (electric circuit board) is not faulty, please? Batteries are good, gas is there too, the cowl plate is sealed, gas ignites, but the fire stops after 10 sec or more. No wind no cold.
Thanks for your question, you would need to contact the manufacturer to get details on the circuit board. I am just an end user and fellow camper, sharing my experience with the water heater. I don’t know anything about troubleshooting the PCB sorry.
Thank you for this video. We just got our first van and all the salesman told us was that he didn’t like Truma. He left our switch on 60 degrees and said the power switch beside it was for the water pump and the red light meant it was on. He also told us that the water tank was our grey water tank. So basically we have had to work most of the functions of our van by ourselves. Thank goodness for a friend who is an experienced camper and was able to help initially but your explanation here was invaluable for us newbies!
We’re happy that our video helped, feel free to subscribe to our channel and check out our other videos that may also help. Sounds like your salesman didn’t know much about the product he was selling 😢
@@AusCampingquite disappointed with the experience tbh, thankful for you guys on RUclips to enlighten us with your wealth of knowledge. Have subscribed!
Thank you for the video you are a legend, how did you install the hot water system?
Thanks, portable hot water system that I stored in the rear tunnel boot and hung on the back of the kitchen slide when we set up. Should be a post on one of the Opus facebook groups about it. (Search posts by Craig Nuttall or AusCamping)
@@AusCamping I founded it, exciting job!
Hi great video, just a question with both 10-litre unleaded and diesel jerry cans in the box do you get a build-up of fumes any problems with putting them there ?
No, we haven’t had any problems with fumes, a small vent I no try he bottom (like the gas side) would be enough if you were concerned
@@AusCamping Thank you
The ring that holds the top and bottom of boiler is leeking 3 years old ??
Had this issue recently with ours also. It’s not real easy to dismantle but I removed the clamp ring, found the pin hole and sealed it with a water proof tape and then reassembled it. So far it is still holding but I suspect we will need to replace the unit or at least the holding tank
Thank you. Very good info for this mewbie
Glad it was helpful!
fantastic job, i have one coming and have never used one. it is also not a top water tank model, so i was confused as to the chemical. you were the only vid after hours of searching to do the whole thing. GREAT JOB. wish i could give you 2 thumbs up. 👍👍
Glad I could help 🍻
Seaflow actually make the same thing, and there are many non branded options for around $25
Why is there so many bad reviews about this one?
Well, this is just my opinion, but it is a Chinese import (like many others these days) so you should expect to do a bit of DIY to get it set up exactly as you want it. Unfortunately, not everyone is willing to to that, but still, they buy a van for $60K and then give bad reviews when they find that it doesn’t compare to the $120K van that they really wanted but couldn’t afford. Add to that, that Starvision hasn’t really had a very consistent after sales service with warranty repairs etc, then you get additional poor reviews from those who have been let down by customer service. As you can probably tell from our other videos, we do our own upgrades and modifications to suit our needs, if anything needs fixing, then we do it ourselves because it’s faster and less stressful than chasing Starvision for minor issues. It’s still a good van, in fact we are living in it full time at the moment and quite likely will be for the next year while we are building in WA. However, if we were buying again today on the same budget, we would not go with Starvision. You might be interested in having a look at “Arctic Campers”, they have a better quality finish, better quality inclusions, and a very positive customer community group on Facebook. By all accounts, their customer service and after sales support is excellent.
That's the worst install of seen
I didn’t install it mate, I’m just helping others understand how to use it. But I agree, the manufacturer could have done better.
@@AusCamping sorry mate was taking the piss I love it
All good mate 🍻
Very informative video thank you. Would love you to do the 15 with bunks
Would be happy to do a walkthrough if we get the opportunity, however we have relocated to Western Australia and Arctic isn’t here yet.
So you still would need an Internet connection to stream/ watch to the TV?
Yes, we currently use a VanConnect 4G router from Cowfish technologies. You can check our video about that here. ruclips.net/video/S-_doAlNo3g/видео.html VanConnect also has a 12V Starlink option now, we will be adding Starlink to our setup soon and will make another video about that.
Hi mate, Thank you for you video. Everything checks out for us accept the last couple minutes of your video. We are having an issue with the red light coming on. We have gas, water and everything checks according to your suggestions. Any ideas as to why the fault red LED light keeps coming on if everything else looks fine?
Hi Dale, red light comes on if the burner fails to ignite or gets blown out and fails to reignite. In a quiet environment, if you turn the switch on, you should hear a clunk sound as the gas valve opens, followed by a ticking sound which is the ignition sparking and if you listen carefully, you can hear the gas ignite (similar to a gas BBQ). If your system is new, it can take multiple ignition attempts before you actually get gas all the way from the bottle to the water heater as the gas line is likely full of air. You should still hear the ignition but if no flame results, then the gas valve closes and the red light comes on. If on the other hand, you get ignition initially but the flame goes out after a while and that is a recurring problem, then you’ll need to take a closer look at the manifold and make sure it is mating hard up against the external wall plate, if not, it will be in taking the exhaust which is already oxygen depleted and causes a flame out after a while.
Hi. Just wanted to thank you for your setup and take down video. We’ve just bought the OP2 and we couldn’t figure out why it didn’t close. Really enjoyed your systematic way you explained both procedures. Feeling a lot better about set up and pack down now.
No problem, we haven’t had our OP2 for a while now but decided to leave the videos online to help others 👍
Thank you so much! My batteries were low and I couldn't figure out why I couldn't ignite my hot water.
You are welcome
Fixing a dodgy line on my van, did retro fix on a trip last year. So now ive pulled the leaky line out, as i had to cut and fit a few joiners, small lengths of scrap i had in my plumbing tool kit. Added a new line today and added the JG tube inserts from Road Tech Marine. Gives a solid flush join. Easy job, very happy, but my dodgy knees protested while working in the cupboard under kitchen sink! My manafacturer used the tube inserts but not the locking clips, so now i replaced them with both. Piece of mind, and an extra $3.00 and 30 mins of contortioning my limbs.
Yeah I know the feeling, some maintenance jobs are a pain in the arse but almost all are a pain in the hips and knees these days 🙄 Always worth the little bit of extra effort to do them properly and put them out of mind 👍
@@AusCamping yep, good feeling to know next trip after my next FIFO swing I won't be worrying about leaky fitting!
Great review, Thankyou!

Thank you so much for this video - you have saved us hours of hassles
You're welcome, it’s nice to know that it helps 👍
Mate… great video!!! We just bought an OP Lite and still found this video more helpful than the sponsored ones. Particularly appreciate letting the camper inflate in real time because we’ve heard it’s so easy but we’ve had a couple teething issues from new, and all other how-to videos goto time lapse or cut that part altogether and just show the finished product. Well Done!!!
No problem, we are campers ourselves so we prefer to present a campers point of view and not a sales pitch.
Very clear and helpful! I just checked the instructions for the water pump, and I think there is already a build in check valve inside the pump. Do we still need to install the one way valve? Thank you
In theory, the check valve in the pump will do the job but it’s not very expensive to put one inline and it takes the pressure load off the pump as well as giving you an additional fail safe.
Great video! Now we know where you hide the moonshine 😂😂 🍾🛏️
Well spotted 🤣🤣🤣🤣 🥃🥃
looking forward to seeing you again.Good luck with the move.
Thank you!

Thanks Andrew it’ll be an adventure, that’s for sure but sometimes you just have to throw caution to the wind and follow your dreams. (That’s what we’re telling ourselves anyway) 🤣🤣🤣
Safe travels and good luck with your new adventure!!
Thank you!! 🍻🍻
It would be great if you knew what you are doing. As your Awning roll is in the wrong where you have drilled your Holes .As the way you are set up your Awing at the ends will start to tare as your rafters are pulling down on the ends .As you have created a gutter .You have AT Kit. That has been fitted wrong to Awning Roll.
Using the original holes from the manufacturer which I did not drill. You are correct though, I hadn’t allowed the roller to back off a bit. When I do that, the AF bar lifts to a better position and the gutter disappears. It’s just over extended in the video but thanks for your input
Great video! Can i ask what Curved roof bar you purchased and length?
Thanks 🍻 We purchased the “Mini Rafter (#2)” it comes in 1 standard length and fits well 👍
Thanks for quick video, my wc was full to the top and I need to go for ''the main one'' and thanks to you I was able to clean it out and then do my stuff. I need to start working to filling it up again, Marcel from Czechia
Nice work! 🤣🤣
My van is new me, but has seen a life, it works on 240v, had to replace the fuse on the PCB for gas to work, which now makes great clunks and clicks but then goes red, cowling cover is off, but never ignites. Gas is flowing to the hobs and valve open. So my worry is gas is not get into the igniters, how can I verify that? I have repeatedly started and stopped the gas but it always goes red?
Hey Mark, sounds like you are well down the path of troubleshooting. Trace the gas line back from the heater and check that there isn’t another isolation valve that has been turned off. Each appliance will have its own isolation valve. It’s good that your hobs are working because that indicates gas is available but may still be isolated from the heater. After that, if you are still not getting ignition, then I would suggest that you contact Truma for further support. I haven’t had the need (so far) to dig into the gas jet or igniter and I’m not one of those people that pretends to know everything. I’m happy to say “I don’t know” in this case rather than give advice on something that I am not 100% sure about. Let me know how you get on with it and perhaps we can share your experience with others. 🍻
Brilliant Craig. We got caught out recently with this. Had to run an Anderson to Anderson extension lead off the tow vehicle direct into the fridge circuit. This woke our batteries. Will be doing this switch mod though as it’s a lot easier.
Cheers 🍻 we like things to be easy, having a jumpstart right there on the switch panel certainly helps 👍
If your heater keeps turning off what do you do then ??
Hi Lynn, in the 3min-9min portion of the video, I talk about the most common installation issue that causes repetitive flame outs and right at the beginning, I talk about making sure you bleed any air out of the system and that the Hot water system is full of water. Lack of water will cause the heater to shutdown and poor airflow/ installation will cause flame out.
Hi Craig / Anett, Roland here from WW, you haven't uploaded anything lately, are you ok or just nothing worthwhile showing
Hey Roland, we are ok, thanks for asking. We have been busy with some life changes and organising those changes. Our van is in storage while we get things sorted out but we hope to have an update on our plans and movements in the next month or two. 👍
@@AusCamping Thanks for the update Craig. 👍
Would it be more realistic if he took a dump as part of the demo
I wondered about that, but Anett assured me that nobody wanted to see me drop my pants 😱🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
