Insulation Types and Quality Control Inspections
Nice screws but Torx= second worse driver next to slotted.
I love different opinions. Why do you say that?
Do you have an installation video on this?? What control switch did you use
Not yet, but essentially an on/off switch with a separate switch for boost
You had to walk the plumber through where the main shut off was? Wow you're a great educator! 👊
It's interesting how much training is needed now. Just had an issue with some insulators
Curious if you've tried the zoning feature of these units? Fantastic job on the video.
I sure haven't, but thank you!!
0:22 isn't that a regulator and not a relief vent?
🙂
Awesome indeed! Love the collaboration with Steve Baczek. Now if only you could roll Brent Hull into a project as well….
Brent might be the coolest guy I know
@@PioneerBuildersInc You all are because you care about quality work.
Unless the blocking behind the ledger board is structural, insulation can be used as fire blocking instead of the blocking.
I tend to agree with you since the ledger isolates the floor diaphragm
Rockwood is R4/in.
Pretty awesome material
How is the noise transmission through those?
I don't know yet. We just finished a long form video, but we probably won't know until occupancy.
It is not going to change the fact that there is a hole in the wall. So there may be some measurable reduction in some frequencies but don't expect to not to sound like a hole in the wall. What it can do is significantly reduce the amount of light that comes through. I used some matte black spray paint to help make it better and make the brown cardboard less noticeable through the vent slats (mine was installed around head height).
@@curtisbme we have done passive returns for years without any sound deadening without a complaint. However, those were higher on the wall. We'll see how this performs. I'm always trying to refine the process. Appreciate the idea of the paint.
Installed one of those in our basement (larger model) when we added a return to the furnace/AC in a room with a door as I wanted to reduce light coming through it and ideally a bit of noise though that is probably not a measurable reduction. Though I'm curious why the room doesn't have a return if the room has a supply? Thought that was standard to do to ensure every room's heating and cooling is more consistent vs just doing one or two big central returns. Obviously don't need to have big door undercuts or do something like this if the room has a return.
Essentially more ductwork and points of connection. I provide ducted returns for primary bedrooms.
Great video Bryan! Love your comment at the end... if you understand some of the basics of building science, it changes how you look at the materials you are using! Looking forward to the next video. -- Jay from AMC Foam
Thank you so much!!
Are you hiring I’m a kick ass carpenter. I won’t smoke pot at work again guys I’m sorry Stevie’s the worst with peer pressure
🤔
@@PioneerBuildersInc I gotta feed the kids man ask your brother if he’ll take me back
Excellent job.
Thank you!
Where are the drain lines? Are they plumbed into the house drain? I don't have plumbing on an ADU and want to use this, right now the PVC drain line comes out the same hole, so I guess I need to extend/shorten it and have it's own penetration.
You're right - the condensation drain gets run separately
Cutting a tapered board to match the slope you want is a great idea! Thanks for explaining the process 😎
Glad it was helpful!
How do you like this unit compared to Broan or Zehnder devices? Are those worth the higher price? Any guidance on how to choose between the multiple manufacturers for a new build?
I don't have first hand experience with the Broan or Zehnder. I have examined a Broan and wasn't terribly impressed with the fit and finish, but take that with a grain of salt. The Zehnder are very efficient, but unless a person has the money and is in a more extreme environment, say climate zone 7, I don't know that I'd spend the extra money.
Used my medal detector in the home construction many time before. awesome tool
I love it!
just found your channel my friend ,you have been Subbed
Welcome aboard!

It is not small, lol. Gotta beef up my arms for ballistic switch grip pull ups
No
🤣🤣
Where did you find the replacement motor
I worked through Gensco
Why would you ballon frame ??
Stronger walls and working from the ground. We lift them into place
Hi Bryan! Thanks for sharing this! The test cap is a pressure test cap that can be used for air or water testing. It can test mixed pressure or isolate an inlet to test pressure or for system cross flow. Hope this helps! :)
Awesome. Now anyone who watches the video can get the official answer. 🧔🏽
Excellent tips👍
Thanks, Alex!
Not enough of these types of construction tips out there. Be good to see more content on the “business” of building. 👍

It will be a metal roof . These units are new in are area We have old winters and hot summers not over high 80s
Nice, you should be golden
I am getting to install Panasonic FV-04VE1 can the ventilation go through the roof
Absolutely, although, if the roofing is asphalt, and you're in a hot climate, it might tend to bring in bad air. Consider putting the intake on the north side, if possible
What drives up costs is the fact that banks will approve anyone for a $400k mortgage. They have given artificial buying power to the lower class and allowed them to be competitive buyers which is crushing the middle class.
There are so many factors...
Probably $500 to get a much more safer home, seems fair to me when we're talking about a house worth $500k?
As mentioned, I don't disagree with the code. But this is only electrical and one element at that. Multiplied by the various other inputs, and the costs keep going up.
@@PioneerBuildersInc This is not whats driving up the cost. It's barely noticeable. It is one thing that really drive up the cost in the the electrical world the last decades, and that is driven by the customer. They want more spotlights, they want LEDstrip, dimmers, smart things..those are the things that ads 30% on the price.
@@Faddnn I'm an accountant. It all adds up.
Did you/ are you going to Zip tape the seams? I think you mentioned that on one of Steve Baczek's recent videos when you visited one of his East coast jobsites. I think it's a great idea.
I'm likely going to blower door test the crawlspace untaped and see how it performs. If it was winter, I'd be more likely to tape them.
@PioneerBuildersInc That's a good idea too! 👍
@PioneerBuildersInc And I correct myself. It was a recent video that Tim had posed from when you guys were back East.
what kind of filter does it use? MERV 13?
Yes, 13
@@PioneerBuildersInc Thanks
I really like your ladder.
Me too 🙂
Why are you using chalk line for a 2' cut?
What would you suggest?
@@PioneerBuildersInc any straight edge at all. I guess the chalk line is fine, just seems kinda cumbersome to be dragging around a chalk box.
@@shawnmagill1124 totally understand. I always have a chalkbox in my bags

Any way to adjust hot water pressure. I’ve drained the tank after year and half nasty things came out but still have low hot water pressure
Do you have good pressure at cold water outlets?
well made house thank you.
Thank you
Linsets with the white insulation will have a chemical reaction and start to leak after a couple years!
These get a cover at trim 👍
69 pounds?
I don't know
Would you use it to dehumidify the home during winter?
Generally, the air is drier in winter, so you wouldn't need to dehumidify
What about if the air was more humid and the average temperatures were a high of 8 C and a low of 2 C. Would you use this method?
@@dawsonparnell4934 would the equipment be in heating or cooling?
Washing brushes in the sink is nuts I’m a drain cleaner the pipes after a house renovation get to be around 30% full of dried paint the home owner ends up paying for it years down the line when bits dislodge or build up even further
That would be an awful lot of paint, but I'm not surprised
I think this is a good product for contractors who paint often in other peoples houses and wouldn’t want to wash his brushes in a customers nice sink. And I know there are other ways for brushes to be cleaned that are much cheaper and take up less space or they can just wash them after. It’s a little gimmicky for someone to get who only paints their house every decade or so, but if someone is going to get use out of it and it makes their life easier/happier then go for it.
Great comment 👍🙂
