The shortfilm is inspired by the soundtrack "Tomorrow" from Kevin Plenkin. All credits for this amazing track go to him. Every time I listened to this piece I had this story in my head. It's very similar to the sunrise scene in made in abyss. This is nothing HEMA related obviously. It's a cgi shortfilm I made end of 2023 and the beginning of this year. Great video, thanks for sharing. More analysis please! And a few questions: @5:59 you saw "Please call it, call it".... does that mean a certain level of power is required, or is it more about the quality of contact: edge alignment + body mechanics etc, or is it something else? @7:31 that reposte and gentle tap to the back is beautiful. I assume totally legal at Tyrnhaw...? Sadly ANY touches to the back are penalty generating where I am from. Personally I think it should be more about appropriate control for any given target, but whatever.

    • @petritzky
      @petritzky 4 дня назад

      There has to be a certain quality for hits. And while they call a bit more than at other tournaments these judges did a good job. There was contact like three times, but debatable. I agree with the judges it wasn't enough. Just as a fencer it is hard to keep pushing for like three times. It didn't hit the back, but the side of the head. Hitting back wouldn't score, except if the other person turned into it.

    I felt that 04:14 left zornhu, it sucks to try to pary it with right hengen because of the angle that it comes it makes it very difficult to give the edge and not the flat without changing to LFF stance. But changing to LFF is slow in this particular case... so ... maybe krumphau parry? I dont know :D

    • @petritzky
      @petritzky 4 дня назад

      Actually this match was riddled with adaptations on that part. I would reposte with a left Zwerch and he would try to cut through it, so I would cut the Zwerch higher and he would come from further up. It was interesting. A Krump would be possible, a bit awkward with the upward momentum from the parry before though. I think moving into right Hengen would have been fine, but I was so focus on landing the riposte I dropped my hands.

      @@petritzky do you have any particular unexpected findings? We found that when leading with left leg, starting an attack with a half step and / or starting with rare leg with heel off the ground helps fluidity. And my observations, both live and online, conclude that good attacks with passing step always land and the very moment of legs passing one another, you could say that good passing step attack lands at the very moment when the whole body is leaned forward a little and your spine is in line with both of your legs (at that brief moment). Distance wise it's the same reach as a lunge, but the balance and ending positions differ.

    • @petritzky
      @petritzky Месяц назад

      @Druid_Ignacy so I think there are a lot of things to consider. What I noticed was I can enter parry riposte game really good from LFF positions. Also oben abnehmen works best for me when I enter with a passing step. I think the most important stuff is getting comfortable fencing with LFF from different positions. RFF you have a very comfortable Eisenpforte until Vom Tag Zornlinie that feels super natural. With LFF it doesn't feel natural. Also I found thrusts work just as much with LFF, but I limited myself from thrusting and only did from RFF. So LFF was always Oberhau or Schiel for me. But really works just as much like Max demonstrates in the video plenty. I feel like the footwork has to be more on point. This is a general thing though. If I only did RFF I would only need this position to get really good at. Now it's both. But it pays of within longer exchanges because all the positions feel natural to work from. With front foot changes that I really like to do, you have to watch out for Nachraisen as every Change is a Tempo for the opponent to act upon. But it can also help pushing into critical measure. What I love in theory are fron foot switches where you put the front foot behind your center of mass within the change and push off in a Springen or Fleche. That sometimes works absurdly good.

    Actually, I just recently was making adjustments for my HFs for the exact reasons you stated - the index finger base joint being bruised over time due to the protective plates falling backward. I put there a piece of solid leather, which comes 3mm in front of the glove and goes under the plates up to the middle of the hand back and it works wonders. I still think that connecting the plastic plate with the glove via some simple rubber knot may be the best way to solve the issue but this one (and from the videos, I assume your one too) works just fine. Also, my complaint to HFs which you didn't mention (maybe you don't suffer from this issue) is they become quite smooth in time, making it really hard to keep the hold on the sword grip in some full-force situations

But HF guys were amazing and replaced 2, (the third one was ordered a long time ago, so we didn't ask for a replacement). Their support gets 10/10 from me. I agree with both of your initial issues. For the thumb, I wrapped the whole thumb in tape, immobilizing the articulations. I did this because I had sword tips come up and under the second articulation, which seems like it should be a freak occurrence but happened multiple times. This had the side effect of improving the protection of the tip of the thumb, because now it is braced against the rest of the glove via the tape and can't smash into the front of your thumb, instead of being basically free floating like it is with the articulations. The tradeoff is thumb mobility, which I don't find that I need for fencing. I did this same thing for my Spatha Michael gloves, which had the same issue. For the dye, from the start I have been wearing cotton gloves underneath my gloves, which I did to reduce damage from sweat, which used to eviscerate my spes heavy gloves back in the day. That had the side effect of protecting me from the dye, and I think it is also improving their longevity like I was hoping it would.

      The cotton glove probably saves you from nasty smell as well

      @The Missingno About the Michael gloves, any ideas on how to prevent the rivets from falling out? This happens to me all the time now, I've temporarily fixed it by putting tape around the rivets but am considering something more permanent, Loctite perhaps?

      @@heirihunziker As I don't have a pair of michael gloves I'm really not sure. Not on one of my gloves has ever a rivet fallen out. On one pair of my spes heavies a rivet broke, but it was at the end of its livetime anyway. I thought about riveting it back, but I would have to drill it out again and I'm not sure if my tool fits inside the glove to punch the rivet.

      @@heirihunziker I don't know, the rivets have not fallen out of mine.
