As someone who’s best friends with someone of the opposite sex, the stigma of platonic relationships between people of different genders SUCKS. I’ve known him for years, and my family tends to assume that something romantic is bound to happen eventually. They’ve made frequent comments to me about dating him since the age of 13; one time I brought up the possibility of being roommates with him after high school and my aunt’s immediate reaction was, “let’s hope you don’t get pregnant”. It’s an awful and uncomfortable feeling that makes me feel the need to distance myself from him, despite him being someone I really care about. I had a “squish” on an older (preferred gender) former coworker. A squish is a strong desire to be platonic friends with someone. I also happen to be asexual, and he is married with children. The last time I fell in love with someone (still falling ☺️), I wasn’t intimidated or treating this guy like an alien or some foreign creature. I felt comfortable being myself. In fact, I approached and made the moves first ! 😼 High school me never would’ve dreamed of doing that 😂. Even though I felt comfortable with him up until I shared my first kiss with him and we started officially dating, I could still recognize the difference between my squish and my crush. Society may not, but I do.

This should be in no way surprising to anybody. There are tons of double standards like this. In actuality, boys/men have always been more sexualized and objectified than girls/women. Why do you think boys were spanked on their bare buttocks in school while girls were not? Why do you think boys were forced to swim naked in gym class but girls were not? And what about in Ancient Greece and Rome? Raping young boys was considered normal and even romanticized. Look how much more male nudity is on TV than female(anyone who has watched a cartoon growing up should already know this). People just use the false narrative "It is funny" to brainwash people. It's not funny, it's disgusting, and degrading to me and my gender. If it's so funny, why is it that females are never shown nude? What happened to this equality, they are always going on about? This has literally bothered me since I was a child. The amount of times growing up I was pushed to believe I had feelings for someone growing up only to realize I don't is kinda insane. Studio Ghibli! Remember in Princess Mononoke how Ashitaka said in the end, that they are now neighbors and can visit each other? In a lot of Ghibli stories the main characters become friends because in reality most people become friends through hardship. Alright, this video is worthless, so if you would like, I have an answer that may make sense to everyone about the step bro/sis/mom/dad explosion. Younger men AND women, all over the planet (Maybe Japan first), have been getting less and less social. Covid, and the mass immigration to phone app related social interaction have leached our ability to socialize normally, creating a generation with a large percentage clinically online. Besides the taboo excitement, I believe that these people are so starved of intimate connection and positive social interaction that this fantasy becomes desirable compared to meeting people outside of their comfort zone. Someone already around you with an immediate connection to you who is more likely to already have a positive opinion of you that you don’t have to go out of your way to establish. Add the fact that step/anything isn’t necessarily blood related, and lots of younger generations have poor opinions of their parents, I can only imagine they’d love to rail their step mom or sister behind their dad’s back.

I'm not gonna lie, I'm a huge fan of the "friends to lovers trope" (personally speaking from my experience as a demisexual girl who's only ever felt attraction towards close friends). Again, personally speaking from my POV, I think relationships should have a foundation or respect and getting to know and starting off as friends feels like a way to form that basis. But I also personally don't think ALL main guy and main girls in media should romantically get together. Even though I don't know much media with that aspect, an example I can think of is the Naruto anime where the main character and main girl, Sakura, are just friends (even though it started off as one sided feelings on Naruto's end, but the two grew to develop what was essentially a sibling-like relationship ship by the end of the series). But most of shipping preferences I prefer to keep on the fanon/non-canon side anyways. So I'm perfectly contempt with relationships I personally like strictly stay platonic in that media and think more Male/Women friendships should be appreciated

I'm months late to the video and I'm not even 5 minutes in, but I've just gotta stop and comment that Elementary is the fucking GOAT. Like, there's a part in season 2 where Sherlock says something like "Oh, I get it, you slept with my brother as a surrogacy thing because you don't want our relationship to change but still wanted a physical outlet reflective of our interpersonal intimacy" but they NEVER try to make Sherlock and Joan a couple. They looked at the characters and said "Nah, that would be less interesting than the solid friendship." (There's a strong case to headcanon Joan as aromantic, sure, but still doesn't change the fact that most shows would have gone into 'will-they-won't-they' in season 1 or 2 and Elementary maintained their relationship as friends for the whole 7 seasons)

About VMars, Duncan knows about his mother's suspicion that he and Veronica are siblings, BUT THEY ARE NOT. Veronica takes a DNA test which confirms Keith is her father. And in the second season we find out who really abused her at the party and it wasn't Duncan.
