Do I still love my KTM 690 SMC-R after 1,000kms?
Просмотров 3,8 тыс.2 года назад
In this video I’ll be reviewing my 2021 KTM SMC-R after 1,000kms. The video is in motovlog format with a walk around and voice over. I still love this bike. In fact, the more I ride it the more I like it. Its definitely not the perfect all rounder, but as an addition to my K1600GT touring bike I can cover all use cases other than dirt riding. Still considering adding a performance oriented dual...

This is a fairly long video where I walk through the steps of completing the first service at about 1,000 KM (600 mi) on the 2021 KTM SMC R. This includes step-by-step on the oil change procedure and the chain tension adjustment. I also attempted to install and connect an OBD II wifi module to view and clear any fault codes. I had an issue with my seat… the middle brackets in the centre of the seat warped… when I tried to get it covered by my warranty the dealership tried to sell a Seat Concepts seat He wanted to charge me almost $500 for it When I sat on it I couldn’t believe it… Felt like I dodged a huge a bullet… I almost found it to be worse than the stock seat. I don’t have any issues… I can’t ride for hours… I just take breaks, sometimes 8-10 hour days Plus I love my Husqvarna logo on my seat

    300 bucks 2 years ago. Try 430.00 + in 2024 for the same seat. I ordered one but jeeze louize. The Sargent seat on my 890R is absolutely the bomb, a 600 mile seat easily, absolutely perfect for me. Its even heated but I havent plugged the wires in yet. Sargent doesnt make a seat for the 690 or I would have got one. I had a Sargent seat on a DR 650 for 25,000 miles and it was also the bomb. Guys would try the bike and marvel at the wonderful couch of a seat. Plush with out being too soft or hard, the foam is somehow kind of springy, lively feeling. Helps suck up bumps. Personally I think Seat Concepts charging almost as much as Sargent does, is a bit of a rip off. But once the word "inflation" was introduced in a big way, many have jumped on board and ratcheted prices to the moon.

    The trick with seats, is it takes all kinds. Some butts love certain seats, while others dont. One thing is you need seat time, a lot, to condition a body and butt to being on the bike. I ride 100 to 200 miles a week on bicycles. And that seems to equal being able to do a 400 mile ride or more on my 890R and the butt is no problem. Now Ive also got a 690R but havent ridden it much yet. Just hopping on a bike with no conditioning will probably mean your not comfortable.

    Hey man, I know you posted a while back but still hoping to get a response.. thanks a lot in advance!! I am torn on this step, I have a 701 enduro from 2020 (EURO4) with an Akrapovic slip on. It has been like this from day 1 (first owner bought it, put the exhaust, sold it to me after 1000km). No issues for now but I don't have much power down low, just my perception I probably need to test another 701. I just mounted a rotweiler fuel dongle and di not notice any increase in power or torque. Do you think it is safe to but this airbox to my bike? Do I need a power commander or dyno? Thanks a lot, G

    CTP, how come you left the ugly frame stickers on? They are pointless as KTM only work off frame and engine stampings and so do the Police and Customs service because they are trained to ignore them as fake stickers can be applied. I ended up buying the storage compartment for my KTM 690 SMC R 2019. I just got it and have taken apart my bike to get it fitted in. When I took the OEM airbox out I noticed it has two air hoses coming out. I see it has included the hose for the left side of the bike but there is also a hose coming out of the right side of the bike from the airbox. I do not see instructions on what to do with this hose for the right side. Also, the new airbox I was sent has a cage that I need to assemble myself and I'm having a hard time putting it together. Can you send me instructions on how to assemble the airbox cage? Thank you.

Got blisters riding 7 hours a day in the first 2 days but after using Sudafed on my arse (baby nappy rash cream) at night for 2 nights then I had no more problems and literally didn't notice the seat again. Thanks for the video! Your bike looks great. All that EZ access extra storage post airbox removal is sweet indeed. Bonus, you can have warmed by the engine heat lunches trailside if you wrap a sammich in tin foil in there! For those with the stock airbox, pulling the battery and putting a little Windex on the boot makes re-installing it much easier, to the point where is only a 3.5 out of 10 on my personal logarithmic pain in the ass scale. It is more than worth the nominal extra effort to pull the battery, as you are right, putting the stock airbox back in is otherwise a nightmare with the battery in the way. How is the intake noise with the airbox mod when under throttle? That is what I am most concerned about. Have owned bikes with airbox deletes in the past and didn't like the "bicycle card in the spokes" intake honk they made under throttle. Currently have a '10 slant engine Husaberg FE 450 which has a similar no airbox setup from the factory, it can be pretty annoying intake sound wise at lower RPM with some throttle to it, but once it is revved and on the cam, the intake sound is pretty glorious too. The other concern I have with the airbox replacement mod is removing the airbox's ability to isolate the intake stream from really hot air coming off the engine and radiator under slow trail riding conditions as I also have an Enduro and it sees slow tuff sstuff single track type riding off road use at times - I ride it like a dirt bike and sometimes forget it weighs well over 300 pounds. Currently running a Yosh can, and like you also the Rottweiler fueling dongle/SAS & cannister eliminators. Running a twin air oiled foam panel filter in the stock airbox. The other "engine mod" is a KTM 80/85C (185F) fan thermo switch, I highly recommend that as the stock switch comes on at 102C (215F) which is just stupid hot. AOMC has the lower temp fan switch. The charging system is robust and running the fan more is not an issue. As luck would have it, my Rottweiler mapped Power Commander is in the mail as I write this 😁 Have run PCs or had ECU flashes in past machines and always enjoyed the results. Will consider the airbox mod, but I want to see how she runs with the PC mapped for the stock airbox and can configuration. It sure sounds great with the can on it, and even without the PC optimization (the fueling dongle O2 sensor eliminator richens it up and really helps part throttle response) the bike already has loads of power. The extra storage sure looks nice though...

    I have had PC5 on a 2022 CRF450 RL and it was trrrible below 20% throttle. I found out why the ecu will not let it change anything below that %. I will not put a PC on my 2019SMCR. NO WAY. I run an Arrow race exhaust and fuel dongle and stock airbox. It has plenty of power in mod2 with abs and tc off. It’s funny how KtM has a lot of money in R&D yet people think they no better with lil to no R&D. Buy a SuperDuke if you need more power. More $ than cents comes to mind.

    • @4sstylz
      @4sstylz Год назад

      You're comparing two different ECU. They work differently, that's a nonsense. Yes KTM do a lot of R&D… to be able to register their engine with the EURO5 label and pass emissions tests. That's why the bike run poor on a big part of the curve. Especially on open loop when the lambda is used (idling, low RPM, and same speed for a long time). The LC4 have now less performance than the 2016 version because of this. It's not to get some additionnal 5hp that people chose to map their LC4, but just to get a better curve, and it's very important to maximize the mid revs torque. If you're happy with the actual level of performance of your engine, then don't change anything. But people love to be able to have more torque to pop wheelies with higher gears.
