    So sorry to hear about your recent health scare. We are truly blessed to live in a country where we can receive the medical care we require when we need it most. Certainly a lesson for all of us that just because we could consider ourselves at the top of the percentage for health in the population doesn't mean we should not listen closely to what our bodies are telling us. Ride on...gently ;)

    Just a couple of points. Totally agree regarding the bike fit. I bought a beautiful Cervelo road bike and on our long Sunday rides, I would have to stop every hour or so with lower back fatigue. I saw a physio here in Canberra and their very experienced bike fitter and with a few millimetres here and a centimetre or two there I am able to ride for six hours with no back issues. Yes it cost $600 but in the scheme of things and the hours we spend on the bike it was worth every cent. As for the Form goggles suggestion, I was wondering if they are suitable for people who need glasses. I wear prescription goggles in the pool and in my races. I am not sure if I would even be able to see the data on the lenses. Thanks for a great episode and all the great takeaways. P.S Some of us take over 7 hours for a 70.3 but I love your optimism.

      Yes a bike fit a top priority! Great question about the form goggles.. can't answer that! P.s our time frames are very general when referring to 70.3's there are some people under 4 hours and some over 8!

    Interesting chat. I’ve noticed that as I’ve trained longer weekend rides (up to 6 hours) that my natural cadence has dropped from where it was when I came across to riding bikes from surfing. I’m guessing this is because my muscle fibre composition has morphed more towards slow twitch from the fast twitch explosive efforts required for my previous sport.

    You chose an interesting topic for your talk - a topic that’s not commonly talked about. I absolutely agree with your observation that most endurance athletes are tough with themselves - that’s nothing all too special. Sure, there’s mental tricks to be even tougher on yourself which are interesting to know and try out. But allow me to rephrase the question: “How to enjoy and benefit from endurance training and races” How about that topic?

    I realise this was out out 3 years ago & I don‘t know if you‘ll read this comment but the podcast was a great help to me. I was beginning to think about stopping Ironman triathlon. I lost connection to why I am doing it. This podcast reminded me that I do it to practice the mental habits. If we allow our mind to make excuses, it becomes a habit. If we continue to do it, it defines our decision-making in all areas of life & we become someone who makes excuses & backs down. If we can develop this skill in sports, it can be transferred to business, to parenting, to any area of life. Thanks for this & all the best guys

    How would you manage power on a course like Nice Ironman with 2500 metres of climbing and steep tight and technical downhills? Can avoid top power ranges on uphills but can’t really avoid zone one on the technical downhills. I guess you just try to reduce time at the extremes and this is easier going up and then hit the desired ranges on the non hilly sections.

    • @jordydonnelly8031
      @jordydonnelly8031 8 месяцев назад

      Great question: some courses it's just not possible to achieve what we're saying with the zones. But these are rarer occurrences and extreme courses like Nice!
