UltiMaker Print Core Installation
A common question we see is, "How do I change my Print Core?"
The good news is, it's a quick and easy swap out.
You can swap to different Print Core combinations, like pairing an AA .4 Print Core with a BB .8 so that you can get great detail on your build parts, while printing quickly on your dissolvable support: fbrc8.com/collections/print-cores

Elmer's Glue. If it's good enough to eat, it's good enough to stick polymers together.
good helpful content Thanks!
Super dankjewel 😁!
ULTIMAKER 5S. I used your instructions on my UM5s to disassemble and reassemble the printer head after a massive Nylon blob. Worked perfectly. Also the wiring is exactly the same. Thanks for a brillant piece of instruction.
I'm glad we could help!
You are the best! Keep moving that way! Thanks for alll!!!!!!!!!! HUGS
This helped me find my issue - in my case the printcore's metal "tube"(where the filament goes through) was loose. I had to loosen the 4 bolts on top next to the bowden tubes to even get it out, to fix it.
This is such an amazingly helpful video, thank you! Just a note that I also had to run the Lift Switch Calibration from the settings afterwards.
I'm glad this was helpful!
Thank you so much your videos have been a lifesaver!!!
I'm so glad to help!
Hi Erin, first of all, I want to thank you for the videos you've been making; they've been a great help in dealing with my S5 printer. Currently, I'm having issues with the XY axes; I notice they have some play, and I think that's been causing the printer to not print properly. Could you make a video on how to fix this play in the axes? I would appreciate it.
I've actually recently made a video that I think will help. Check out my S5/S7 sliding block installation video. It covers how to entirely take apart the XY axes and reinstall all of the components, including checking for play on the axles. If that doesn't do the trick for you, let me know! We are always looking to add useful tutorials to our channel and fbrc8.com to help you get the best out of your UltiMaker printer.
👌🏻Top Thanks !
Thanks so much Erin, I couldn't find anything online besides your video on how to remove the bowden tubes. You are a live saver!
Glad to help!
Hi Erin, I've had a UMO since 2012, highly modified and on its third set of long belts. (It's direct drive / no short belts.) I recently upgraded to a used Ultimaker 3, because I wanted a true 2.85 dual-extrusion open source printer. Your videos are the best on the web and they've helped me update my knowledge about the differences between the two machines. I'm now going through the U3 and cleaning and checking everything. Thanks for your help!
Thank you so much! I’m glad you’re finding the videos helpful. Our goal has always been to make the UltiMaker printer ownership experience the best it can be and help make sure servicing the machine is as user friendly as possible so you can get the best out of it.

Is there anywhere to get an Ultimaker s5 serviced?
We offer printer repairs, Print Core cleanings, and print head repair at our facility in Memphis, TN.
can you please explain how to replace the feeder on this model??
Subscribe! That video will be uploaded later this month.
Thank you, also works on Ultimaker 2+... didn't use my printer for ages and kept putting it off, if only I knew earlier it was that easy!
Hello, It’s perfectly clear and precise. I don’t understand the language, but your gestures explain everything. Thanks to you, I can repair my printer alone. Thank you very much!
Hey, there is a PCB in the print core, the tiny one and it has some connector. These connector hold the heater and temp. sensor wires. Does anybody know what these connectors are called?
Thank you for such a wonderul tutorial. But i still hate this printer. I'm not only pushing my company to change to a new one, but I wish we never had it to begin with
Erin you are the best🎉
What a brilliant resource - thank you for making this (and all of your other) videos and sharing them. I started 3D printing back in 2011 and retired my home built RepRap machine last year when I could finally afford a pre-loved S5. Since then, I have had the S5 serviced by a local UM dealer and good though they are, maintenance jobs like replacing the short timing belts can be quite expensive. Up to now, I have not tried to do any jobs like this myself given the cost of the machine - scared of getting in a mess - but I am thinking that l am going to watch this video several times to help build my confidence to carry out maintenance other than lubrication. (Quite confident doing that 🙂). I would really appreciate a basic and "this is how to ..." video showing how to disconnect/reconnect/align various parts that need removing - like the motor covers and the printhead shafts - it was hard to see exactly what you did there around the 1:20 mark but I am still giving top marks!
Thank you! For the printhead shafts: tilt the plastic block until the print head shaft pops loose. I have a separate video with closer views of popping the print head shafts in and out. For the motors covers, those are also pop in/pop out. There are cut outs on the printer, and tabs on the motor cover. If you tug at the top of the motor cover (I like the corner of the L to tug on) it should pop out.
Oh my god... I cannot thank you enough!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I've never owned an Ultimaker and don't plan to, but thank you for spending the time to put this out there!
Great video and explanation Erin! I have used this video several times.
This video was so helpful as I tried to reassemble my feeder. Thanks a lot for the time you took to do this video guide.
Thanks for that very clear
Thank you. It helped me to assemble back "exploded" feeder. Although everything seems to be logic and clear, I could not find a correct place for two parts
Which two parts are you unsure of where to put them?
It was a metal ring and a setting screw. After watching the video I got that someone repaired the extruder before me, assembled it wrong, added unnecessary nut and screw did basically nothing.
Wow, @@TushhsuT ! Glad you got it sorted out.
"If you ever lose your clamp clips, it's very easy to print more." That's some dark humor.
The clamp clips are a small and quick enough print that it should print okay even without clamp clips installed in the printhead--though I wouldn't recommend it without having them installed in the bowden tube.
My tube started slipping awhile ago and it was a mess until I printed the improved clips. I'd be hard pressed to print anything with the clips missing. (I'd borrow one from the other side, though.)
@@KylerLaird I definitely wouldn't print without them on the feeder side since it's pushing up on the tube--but you can get away with it (briefly) on the printhead side because the bowden tube is pushing further down into the printhead during printing (rather than up and out like the feeder). But definitely always best to have them.
I still wonder why your printhead doesn't have extruders in it. For me with extruders it is whole different story
I took the Print Cores out prior to disassembling the printhead--they are designed to come in and out very easily. Are you having any issues removing the Print Cores?
Hey, thanks for the videos, I do have a problem with the S5. I got the bb nozzle clogged and I have managed to clean it and re installed, after rewiring one of the sensor contact cable, but the problem is the spring mechanism of the switch, it came off and now I suppose I have mounted it wrongly, so there’s an offset between the two nozzles. Can you help, do you have a picture or instructions on how to remount it? Thanks @@fbrc8
@@manueledellapina8550 reassembling the spring mechanism for the lifting switch is covered in this video. But one thing to remember is there should always be an offset between these two nozzles--it's designed that way. The left hand nozzle never moves up or down. The right hand nozzle moves 3mm up and down with the switch so it is always offset from the left one by 1.5mm so that your inactive nozzle doesn't drag across the print.
Thank you so much 💙
Thank you for making all of these videos that Ultimaker should have made. Very informative and to the point. You're awesome.
Thanks you saved me! Everything flew when I unscrewed the box! Very useful video🙏
This video was a huge help, appreciate it. :) The ultimaker documentation on this is good, but without seeing the actions in motion, it's hard to tell what's actually going on between steps- this video helped bridge that gap for me!
thank you for having time for help to we
Great video. Could you please link the STL of that ultimaker test print you are using?
Merci beaucoup pour cette vidéo. Sans elle, je n'aurai pas réussi à remonter la tête d'impression. Thanks a lot.
Super. Just what I needed to know.
Great video! You're are very good teacher.
Wow, just what I needed. I did take mine apart before loosening the tension screw of course so things did fly everywhere :) So before I guessed at where things went I decided to check youtube. This was GREAT. Exactly what I needed. Thank you for doing this and posting this. VERY HELPFUL and of course since I had never done this my feeder was full of a few years of printing. Now i can clean out the other feeder.
That’s good to know, I thought something was wrong with my printer. Thanks for the video and info.
Can you replace just the nozzle? If so, can you stitch between .2, .4, .6?
Yes, if you look in the parts catalogs they show different nozzles. Very easy to swap out.
thanks for the video do you know if there is any procedure to improve the print of ultimaker work damage support for this printer but some equipment provided is printing with that ghosting effect on the print we have already aligned the belts and axles and even so this problem persists and varies from equipment to another
I would recommend putting in a support ticket; we can take a look at settings. I'd also make sure that there's no play on the axles.
just ordered a hotend from ya for my Ultimaker original. can't wait to get it up and running again!
Super helpful. Had a problem where the extruder spring had forced its way out. This allowed me to take the assembly apart and put it back together nice and quickly.
beatifuly done . thank you so much
Glad to help!
thank you very much for the explanation =)
