My local pet shop told me they will eat the eyes out of anyother fish in the same tank? Anyone ever heard this?

From my experience with a red devil, they're dumb until they're fully grown. Then they get smarter and meaner. I just had a 55 gallon tank with a Jack Dempsey and a red devil and that Jack Dempsey was the tank boss. But I guarantee the tables would have changed if that red devil was full grown.

Had a pair. The male was larger and started bullying the female so I separated them. She eventually reached the same size as him so I reintroduced them back together. All seemed ok all day and into the evening. I woke in the morning and she had murdered him. Guess she held a grudge! A real shame as he was very beautiful.

Either u had a less dominant looking male or its a female. Male jags has alot of spotting and females have bigger blotches. Yours kinda looked like a female

Will my feeder fish try eating the fray?

I caught one of these in a live trap today. She is in a cage with food and water. It's winter up here in Michigan so I will keep her and release her in spring. It's just to cold right now.

Which native fish do you think is the less aggressive? It seems like as soon as one gets a little bigger than the rest (even if it's barely obvious) they'll force everything else to stay in their corners. Even my formally tame pumpkinseed started doing this after awhile.

So I’m a cichlid lover I buy aggressive cichlid. One tank I had a Green Texas Cichlid in with a jaguar cichlid and made hybrids the fish turned out beautiful.So now my dovii wolf cichlid and red Terror mated. Can’t wait til they get their colors.

It's no wonder why you got bitten, since it's such a small tank he's claimed that whole tank as his territory. Your hand going inside triggers his defence mode since he takes it as an invasion. I hope you got him a bigger tank... a 100gallon at least. Mine's in a 120gallon and usually leaves me alone if my hand don't go too near to him.

Hello, I've been keeping and rehabilitating lots of different kinds of... (here we go) birds, squirrels, mice, moles, voles, snakes, mantis, frogs, toads, salamanders, racoons, and a rabbit (All wild) my whole life. And at the vary least training each of them to happily come to my hand for feedings I've come to the conclusion that any intelligent life has the ability to be trained with enough blood sweat and tears. Just keep in mind if you intend to keep any kind of wild animal than you need to question if you can spend approximately 3 times as much work as a pet store Pet would require, and if not than please consider waiting until you do to begin keeping it. For instance, I'm currently training two wild birds that I rescued from a groundhog that had already eaten two of there siblings, and I'm spending approximately 16 hours a day with them. I am very interested to hear what happened to the bird and what you did. And maybe we can both get more experience in the process.

I must be wrong but I don’t expect my fish to entertain me and fish bring themselves is entertaining enough. I’m going to buy more discus to go with my Africans.

I have convict chiclids that eat each other. There's one big female that bullies the other convicts and keeps them at top of tank.

Nope haha, I've always hand fed aggressive fish like Jags while raising them. As they get older they recognize my hand and fingers as where food comes from and wait patiently until I drop it. On the flipside they aren't afraid of my hand when I clean the tank or redecorate. They will look for food around my arm as I move around the tank. Doviis & Red devils on the other hand always flip the murder switch around 8"-10" and will attack anything that moves. That's why I feel Jaguars are more intelligent. They actually process information and aren't afraid of shit.

I think just 1 jaguar in a 90 gallon with nothing else is pretty good
