great train set up

This was my first train back in Christmas of '65 when I was only 5 years old. However the engine didn't have those red marker lights on the front. Still running trains ever since.

I have several of the MarX hand cars. I like their size and they look more normal then the other bands out there. However be wise as to their gears and tiny motors, oil them as needed and fix if the gears are loose, never let anyone use it like a push toy.... Nice idea with the Micky and Minnie!

This is a Fun train layout. With three classic trains. I found this video while looking for the 1626W Santa Fe passenger set. A favorite of mine. The Alco in AT&SF freight Blue and the blue striped 2400 series cars are beautifull. As are the F3 and J. Thank you for sharing the video. Loved it!

Nice prewar Lionel boxcab set in the peacock blue, orange and black color scheme. Add the nickel and brass highlights and you have a stunning train. Too bad Lionel couldn't figure out that the single pickup rollers worked terribly, for these passenger cars. Compare that to the Marx Copper Queen passenger set with a single sled style pickup and absolutely no flickering. Lionel of course would later add a second pickup roller to correct this problem. I am awaiting a nice boxed set of this exact set to compliment my similar Lionel prewar 294 set with the 252 Terra Cotta/burgundy center cab engine and matching passenger cars. No lights in the cars, but very pretty with the color scheme. Slightly less primitive. Cheers from Northern California!

My first train was left by Santa Christmas 1938. On the point of that three car freight was a gunmetal 259e with whistleing tender,I still have the strand the whistle still works and though I have am extensive collection now that little train on its loop of track holds the place of honor in my fond memories of past Christmas mornings.

I had this train set (Flying Yankee) with an extra 617/vestibule. I say "I had", because early last February While we were down in Arizona, someone broke into our home near Seattle, and stole ALL my trains and basically ransacked our home and took whatever they wanted/could, then they set the place on fire....... Yes including my beloved Flying Yankee.. You see, my dad was given my flying Yankee for christmas in 1940. By the late 40's, or early 50'sthe train had been relegated to my Grandmothers basement in Spokane, wa. As luck would have it, When he put away, The train went back in their original boxes, and then the train the transformer and the track was all put back into the original "Set" box, before being put in the basement, where it would sit until I found it in the mid 80's when my Grandmother passed away.... and I was helping clean out the basement.. I immediately claimed it as MINE...and my dad said that yes, I could have it.. I think I only ran it maybe a dozen times in the years I had it... I had it graded at a TCA show in the mid 90's where I was told it would grade as a C-8+ due to the set's absolute 100 % completeness.. with not only the original boxes, but the fact the boxes were mint as well..... It was a well loved train.... and sadly? now it's gone.....to who knows where...... Sigh

That little passenger train is one of my favorites at Christmas for under the tree.

I have the same set! Hard to tell from the video but your have bar-end or aar trucks on the tender and which observation car came with yours? Very hard to find these are rare sets to come across complete with boxes.

Have my Dad's 1938 226E with same pass cares but they are two tone green and cream. Still runs great. He was born in 38 and my grandparents got it for him his first Christmas in 38. An ironic little side note. The store my grandparents purchased it from in 38 belong to the grandparents of the girl i married in 86. We did know this till years later. It was one of those mom and pop toy stores that are long gone.

I just picked one of these guys up at the Springfield MA train show, for $10. Mine isn’t in as nice shape, no box, but I think I can get it going again. Seems like a ton of fun to use, can’t wait to get it back into working order!

My favorite postwar train. It was even featured in a Gumby episode called Train Trouble

I had the "electronic-set" with (I think) the 671 (could have been the 681) Turbine which allowed REMOTE uncoupling of the cars ! ... the "DCS" of the day with Lionel. The smell of those smoke pills / and the "ring" of the pumper bell STILL loom in my mind as a kid !. BEAUTIFUL SET !
