Weekly Watches From The Collection 19/05/24
Hi Roy, it’s disgusting what happened to Judy Garland, poor girl. 😧 The Sun Shine Bright sounds interesting… I agree Laughter In Paradise is a lot of fun (good old Larry 😉) I watched Rooster Cogburn a few weeks ago, it’s a very good movie. How dare you Roy I’m so offended, I’m a huge Kevin Costner fan (I did a video on all his movies 🤣) I guess Kevin doesn’t appeal to everyone, we all have actors like that 🤔 Emil Jannings also stars in the 1924 film WaxWorks which is out on the Eureka Masters Of Cinema label (you probably have a copy) nice one mate, take care👍😃👍
@kermitsghost hello Alan. You know, I haven't got a copy of Waxworks yet. I have taken my eye off the ball a bit with the Eureka. Now you've told me that though I will have to rectify it. The couple of films I've seen of Jannings he has been superb. Big Kev. Yeah I'm not a fan 😅 cheers mate 👍 👌
Thanks Roy I got my full refund today 👍
@shaunmcdonnell1598 nice one Shaun 👍 at least we got some free movies out of it 😀
Same here, luckily I already had Delta Force 2 from 101 films, I bought this for Invasion USA 👍
@bal5884 I've luckily found a copy cheap on ebay
Thanks Roy mine has Death Race 2 . Gutted
@shaunmcdonnell1598 contact Rarewaves Shaun they will refund you. I did that and then bought the right disc from Ebay for about the same price
Great stuff Roy, a lot of these I haven't seen or heard of. The Wizard Of Oz is a masterpiece. Heard dark things about it and apparently the people that played the munchkins were treated poorly aswell
@@timcole418 cheers Tim. I think in them days Hollywood was a seedy place.
@@roybarratt5609 I think it is and maybe has gotten worse matey
Inception as Femme Fatale? I don't remember anything like that
@Rhiunlol hi Ryan. I did use Google to help me compile this one. I think they mean Marion Cotillards character and the way she betrays Cobb. I am due a rewatch though.
Hi new to the channel you said you don’t real like kevin costner you got to like waterworld one of his best movies for me 😊
@@user-vj6tl9js3e hello Jamie welcome aboard 👍 I have Waterworld Arrow release. It's a bit of a chore 😆
Never interested in seeing The Bodyguard (a friend went to see it with his girlfriend and was bored to tears!), but have just ordered Laughter in Paradise, remember seeing it ages ago and thought I would like to see it again 👌. Wonder if mine will come with the slipcase? 🤔 Another for the expanding Studio Canal collection!
@SuperGrumpyDaddy Hi Mark 👋 The Bodyguard has great songs but next time I'd just stick on the CD. Studio Canal are hit and miss with the slipcase. I've actually pulled mine off the shelves and started a section just for studio canal. 👍
@@roybarratt5609 , it came with a slip! Hooray!
Not watched Rooster Cogburn in years mate, its a film i find just ok if i am honest, Love the Wizard of Oz and it always takes me back to my childhood, always stick it on at Christmas.
@bushmanblu426 ah yes I can confirm The Wizard of Oz is indeed a Christmas movie Mark.
Great video Roy, I have really liked Rooster Cogburn since I was a kid, The Wizard of Oz on the other hand I have hated since I was a young kid, those flying monkeys freak me out 😂👍
@jimtatro6550 ha thanks Jim. Yep them monkeys are pretty freaky 😜 😆
“By jove”, some good watches there I’d like to see Laughter in Paradise. I recently read Katharine Hepburn’s autobiography and she describes a good time working on Rooster Cogburn, Wayne respected her sass and ability to stand up to him and put him in his place. Funny you mention Costner as I plan to talk about him soon and I don’t think you’re alone in your opinion
@neilsmoviechannel3199 Hi Neil I thought Hepburn and Wayne had some wonderful platonic chemistry between them. I was surprised reading reviews after I watched the film that it's quite poorly received. Laughter In Paradise was wonderful. I'm sure you'd enjoy it. You've now got me anticipating your Costner talk as I've been feeling very lonely with that opinion.
Laughter in paradise looks good mate 👍🏻 might have to get that 👍🏻🎥💿👈🏻 l like rooster cogburn 👍🏻🤪 im a Kevin Costner fan tbh mate 👍🏻 good watches mate 📺🎥💿👈🏻
@stuartgeorge2324 thanks Stuart 😊 I thoroughly recommend Laughter In Paradise. Marvellous old British comedy 😃 Cheers for watching 👀 mate 👍 👌
I think out of all those ive only seen the wizard of oz and the bodyguard 😅 both i really enjoy! Sorry Roy im with James on the bodyguard mate 😄👍🏻 a good weeks worth of watching there mate 😀👌🏻
@@popcornandhorror cheers Ash. I know it's just me 😆 Everyone else seems to love Big Kev 😆
@@roybarratt5609 😄🤷🏻
Looks like a nice area, some interesting facts you provided. Ha, shite Sprite. Great stuff Roy, some good pick ups matey
@@timcole418 cheers Tim. I think I'll stick to mango tango 😆
You should get White House Down, stars Channing Tatum, very good, bit violent, similar to Olympus has Fallen stars Gerard Butler, better story less violent, very good this and the sequel are available on steelbook if you interested.
@@iloveblue7920 I have both of those and really like them. I rewatched them not too long ago
You are very kind giving your grounds keeper an hour off Roy, I hope he spent it well. Wow Larry came through for you again Roy 😉 (Mums the word) The Man Who Never Was has peaked my interest 🧐 I think the film it is similar to is Operation Mincemeat. I was lucky enough to have the cinema to myself when watching The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford, it was a fantastic experience. Ooh Devotion has also peaked my Interest. Nice one Roy, take care mate👍😃👍
@kermitsghost thanks Alan. There are so many films to discover. I don't think we'll ever be satisfied with what we have 😅 I'm sure Jesse James will resonate with me more now I'm older and questionably older. Thanks 👍 mate 👍 👌
Great video roy great finds gd history😅😅😅😅
@johnmuff1348 thanks John glad you enjoyed it 😀
I do know that Glen Powell is in Twisters and the lead actor in [Richard Linklater’s] Hitman which is available on Netflix. Thinking about rare and out of print Blu-Rays, I once picked up The Quiet American at one of my local Cexs in Dunfermline, Roy.
@IanThomson-md5yx hi Ian. It was The Guernsey Literary Potato Pie and Peel film I remember Glen from. I will never be able to remember the proper title of that film. The Quiet American was a good find. That's one I'd like to upgrade my dvd .
Hi Roy, Great video and it looks very nice where you live mate, I plan on picking up the Blu-ray of Night of the big heat, a film i do enjoy, Only seen Quatermass and the pitt so let me know what you think of that John Mills one. Thanks mate.
@bushmanblu426 hey Mark. Yep plenty of worse places to live than here. I am starting Quatermass in a minute. So I will let you know 👍
Quartermass was originally a short tv series that was then spliced together into a movie and is well worth a watch.
@@larryboyd5882 can't beat a bit of John Mills
As you know RoyI love to escape from the care home and go for a wander whenever I can and nothing is better than finding a few gems in the charity shops at the same time.
Good to see your local area, Roy. If I was in the UK I would definitely try and get that Quatermass from you as I’ve been wanting to see that for ages. Very nice.
@neilsmoviechannel3199 if you were here I'd be sending it to you Neil. You can always come and collect 😆
I enjoyed that Roy, nice to see your stumping ground and yeah the heat can certainly take it out of you 🥵 nice one mate, take care 👍😃👍
Thanks Alan. It's a great place to live. Just the lack of sea and sand goes against it 😆 👍
Night of the big heat new release is on my radar 💿🎥👈🏻👍🏻 looks interesting
@stuartgeorge2324 yes it's a good film and a bluray I'll get eventually. Cheers Stuart 👍
Great look around there Roy 😎👍🏻 u got my number with that Paintball dvd 😂 2009 crappy horror, ticks all the boxes! I've never even heard of it tbh 😅 I'll have to do some research on that one!
@@popcornandhorror cheers Ash. Never in doubt that one 😆
Some great pickups there Roy! Great get on The English Patient, it took me a while to get that one at a reasonable price. No idea why it's so out of print given how famous the film is. Quite curious to see Confessions of a Dangerous Mind as well. I've been watching a few Clooney films recently, and I'd like to see more that he's directed. I also had a similar reaction to The assassination of Jesse James the first time I saw it, and it's definitely one I need to re-visit. I know it's held in high regard by a lot of people, so well worth a re-watch. Love and Friendship was directed by Whit Stilman who I'd love to see more from. Criterion released a small boxset of his, and I loved Metropolitan which is well worth checking out. Sadly I didn't get on very well with Love and Friendship, but don't be put off from his other films if you also don't enjoy it!
@goosesmovies hello Warren. There are so many titles going oop now. If there are holes in your collection that need filling I'd suggest you're better off doing it sooner than later. People moan about cex but I find them very well priced. I paid £4 for Confessions Of a Dangerous Mind. £12.99 seems to be the standard price on Ebay.
Nice little look around Rugby matey.. not been back there in a long long time.. Decent grab with Paintball.. I'm the same as Ash.. love my so bad it's terrible movies 😂👍
@XFile2708 thanks 😊 I don't normally film when I'm out and about. The sun must have got to me 😆
Nice grabs as always matey.. big fan of Battle Royale that you mentioned as well as Drive.. rewatched Battle Royale on Arrow DVD a couple of months ago but one I'll definitely upgrade to blu ray at some point 😎👍
Battle Royale is fabulous. If Samurai Reincarnation is anything as mad it will be a trip. 👍 Thanks for watching 👀 😊
Great video Roy! I am a big fan of Confessions and Layer Cake and Army of Darkness is a blast. For that one, check your brain at the door, have a drink and enjoy yourself.😂👍
@jimtatro6550 hello Jim. I will get a 4 pack of budweiser on your recommendation sir 😀 👌
Great pickups Roy, I think that guy from Devotion is the one thats in the new Twisters film, could be wrong though.
@bushmanblu426 thanks Mark. Yes he is in Twisters but that's not what I knew him from. It was one of my favourites The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society.
@@roybarratt5609 Didn't realize he was in that one.
Nice pick-ups, Drive is a classic 👌 👍
Thanks Matt. It is indeed 👍
Hey Roy, some great additions there mate, i nesd to rewatch Confessions of a dangerous mind soon, think my 1st watch many years ago didnt leave me understanding what had gone on 😅 bit older now hopefully i stand a chance 🤞🏻
Cheers Ash. I will make sure I have my thinking cap on when I watch that one 😆
@roybarratt5609 to be fair mate it might be a very simple film 😄 probably just me not being the sharpest tool 😄
@@popcornandhorror me either sometimes 😆
Hi Roy. Some good stuff there. I love The Man Who Never Was and think it is far better than the more recent Operation Mincemeat. The Assassination of Jesse James is a masterpiece, hopefully you will connect with it better on rewatch. Some of the pilots who worked on Devotion gave a great demonstration in their Corsairs at last year’s air show here. Also, Love and Friendship is witty and fun and Tom Bennett’s performance in it is hilarious
Hello Neil it's usually the case that the original is far superior. I'm looking forward to it. I need more Gloria Graham. I do like a good airshow. It's been a while since we had a Red Arrow flypast. Ah I'll give Love and Friendship a go. I got it primarily to make up the numbers. Thanks for watching
Great video Roy 😀🍿🎸🎶 Really enjoyed ‘Army Of Darkness’; I’m a big ED fan; my favourite Horror film series 🧟♂️ I heard great things about ‘Confessions Of A Dangerous Mind’; you always pick up awesome stuff man; keep up the excellent work Roy 😀🍿🙌🎸🎶
@samglendenning9884 cheers Sam. Confessions was a great price at £4 👍 It goes for quite a bit on ebay. I do like to pick something a bit more unusual 😆
Nice pickups mate Larry strikes again 💿💿💿👈🏻👍🏻🎥
@stuartgeorge2324 cheers Stuart 👍 and he only struck again after I uploaded 😆 what a guy. Thanks for watching mate 👍
@@roybarratt5609 why's my comment in Sam's lol 😆 modern technology and me don't mix lol 😆
@stuartgeorge2324 good job Sam's a hospitable guy 😆
I used to have confessions of a dangerous mind on DVD years ago. And I do believe it's from a true story. I will have to pick it up on Blu-ray
@davidmckee2898 thanks David. I will have to give it a watch.
I recently listed The Assassination of Jesse James in my favourite 100 films of all time - at No.68. It’s a long film but beautiful and superbly made.
@steve4films hi Steve. I have a feeling I'm going to enjoy it much more than when I was younger. It's amazing how our tastes evolve.
Hi Roy, mix bag for you this week 🧐 Basil Dearden once again pops up 👍 I haven’t seen The League Of Gentlemen, sounds like my cup of tea…..I have a theory about Larry, I’m thinking you and James have concocted him to disguise the fact that you are spending copious amounts of cash on films (so your respective wives don’t catch on by telling them it’s subscriber mail……..ingenious) 🤣 it’s a great plan and I’m planning on doing the same 😆 nice one mate, take care👍😃👍
@kermitsghost I must admit that would be an ingenious plan 😆 but I can assure you Larry is a living, breathing person who always watches your Monday adventures for purchase inspiration 😆 Highly recommend The League of Gentlemen is fantastic and I can see you really liking it 😀 thanks Alan 👍
Hi Roy some great choices. I have never seen Outland. Take care
@elleryfiddler844 thanks Ellery. Outlander is a good fun time 👍
My name is nobody. Not on 4k so worth the pickup on blue
Hi Roy another great week. I have added angels one fire to the buy list. I remember watching black hawk down for the first time. Was blown away, such an attack on the senses. I agree with you it doesn’t make the same impact on rewatch. I also think we are more used to full action from films now. I recently watched civil war thought the ending to it was great but not sure it will have rewatch value as much. How do you decide what to watch in a week? Take care pal.
Hello Ellery 👋 hope you're OK. To be honest I never know what I'm going to watch until I go to the shelves and something catches my eye. I don't know if that's a good system or not.
@@roybarratt5609 that's a system that definitely works for you. I have just got so many films to watch lol.
Some great watches for the week matey.. shows how we're all different taste wise though as I loved Willy's Wonderland lol Definitely stay clear of 5 Nights at Freddy's.. I wasn't a fan .. kind of a poor man's Willy's Wonderland lol
@XFile2708 I thought it was the worst thing I've seen in months lol. We're all different though. That's the magic of it. Thanks for watching 👍
Black hawk down is a great 4K
@@MovieMad1 yep great picture. Some nice grain
Big haul Roy, some great titles. Congratulations on the win, watched a documentary on here the other day about the rising prices of chips and a lot of shops closing down. Got the limited Empire Films box and isn't much different to the one you have got other than it comes with a booklet. Dolls is my favourite from the collection. Benedetta looks interesting, always check out anything by Paul Verhoeven although Robocop my favourite. Big Lebowski my favourite, haven't watched all of their films though. Haven't seen The Killing by Stanley Kubrick. Great stuff buddy
@timcole418 thanks Tim. Not bad considering I was going to have a quiet week. I'm not that bothered by not getting a book. To be honest I'd never read it and space is invaluable. Thanks for watching 👍
@roybarratt5609 Ha, it is hard to restrain yourself purchase wise isn't it? I haven't read the book tbh
Great stuff Roy, the only films on your list that I have actually seen our Blackhawk down and Rio Lobo. I absolutely love Black Hawk down just from a visceral point of view, but I do agree with what you’re saying about it.
@jimtatro6550 thanks Jim. Great film but will never get that first watch feeling back.
Some good ones again, Roy. If you want to see more now of Joachim Trier after The Worst Person in the World then definitely look for the other two films in his “Oslo trilogy”, which are Reprise and Oslo, August 31st. I particularly liked Oslo, August 31st. Renate Reinsve makes her film debut in that one (a much smaller role) and the film is inspired by Louis Malle’s The Fire Within, which is a great (but depressing) classic.
@neilsmoviechannel3199 many thanks Neil. That's 2 definites for the list.
Hi Roy, I have Allied on DVD but have yet to watch it, always been interested in giving it a watch. I have put both The League of gentlemen and Angel one five on my list, both look good films and one's i would enjoy. How many John Wayne films do you have now on Blu-ray? Decided to start myself, just one up to now and its The Searchers, so i have a goodin. Thanks mate.
@bushmanblu426 hi Mark The Searchers is probably my favourite. Such a good film. I have to be in double figures at least for John Wayne films I should think. I will have to have a count up.
Another batch of interesting films there. I have actually heard of Bones and All and would like to get round to watching Challengers - when the price for the Blu-Ray goes down at HMV or on eBay. I do actually know Sean Bean’s character survived in Ronin, Roy.
@IanThomson-md5yx yes I'll get Challengers too when it goes down. It might hold it's price as it's a HMV exclusive. That's a rarity for Sean 😆 Thanks Ian 👍
Nice watches mate tbh the older I get the more the sunshine duz my head I want it bleak and miserable so I'm indoors more watching films lol ( victor melldrew) lol 😅
@stuartgeorge2324 I don't believe it 🤣 thanks for watching mate 👍 👌
Great film reviews roy i rember watching monster and enjoying it its been a while 😅😅😅😅
@@johnmuff1348 cheers John 👍 yep Monsters is cool 😎 👍
I had a good time with willys wonderland 😂 kind of toot i enjoy! I always have a big gap between rewatching black hawk so its like watching for the 1st time for me 😅 i keep hearing / seeing that worse person in the world, need to check it out at some point 😎 👍🏻
@popcornandhorror hey Ash 👋 Willy was worst film I've seen in a long time 😆 normally I can find a redeeming feature with most but I drew a blank with that one. Glad you liked it though 😊 yes can recommend worst person in the world 🌎
