Top 10 Craziest Leaning Towers
Most builders would prefer that their buildings don’t lean, but the reality is that many do. In fact a lot of the buildings you’re watching this from are probably tilting ever so slightly. Variable soil conditions, minor inconsistencies in building materials and dozens of other factors can contribute to making a building lean over. Here are the ten most well known examples of leaning buildings.

10 Most Amazing Adaptive Reuse Projects in Baltimore (Before and After)
I disagree with the claim that California's high speed rail is too expensive. When did American loose it balls for large projects? California needs a high speed rail service. The alternative is to widen existing roads and to expand the compacity of its existing airports. There will be mistakes with the 1st one made but how else are we going to prove its feasibility without building the 1st one.
Thieves have no incentive to stop stealing. We have all dealt with government beurocrats on a small scale. But when we hire a contractor, we can fire them and take them to court. We also have reviews to share our experiences with their potential customers. Pleas show a government entity that has a reviews section on their website. I've worked on Davis Backon jobsites. They are money pits with waste and graft everywhere. These projects are designed by politicians to siphon off the taxpayers' money in plain sight.
Quite a lot are missing. Most famous one of course Pripyat.
Battersea is one of the most elegant buildings ever erected.
The Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas
The problem with those old buildings was that they're full of lead paint and asbestos, the abatement alone makes the project unfeasable
Biggest waste of money in government are all the Politicians in office.
Sounds like Mr. Beats little brother
...soul city hahaha
brutalism, when communism tried architecture. Nothing says "I hate people" like brutalism.
Would love to see this city. Thx
The Pyramid was overpromised and underdelivered by the developer Sidney Schlenker, but Memphis time and time again made the most of the disappointment, to this day. It hosted not only sports events, but one of a kind cultural artifact exhibitions, and was instrumental in luring the NBA. Instead of being abandoned or torn down, it has been repurposed to continue generating revenue as a Bass Pro Shop. And that is to their credit.
Waste is of no consequence to governments as it is not their money they are wasting.
Here in South Africa we have the Leaning Tower of Pizza 😉😉🇿🇦
Kemper Arena: I was there at the WWE pay per view when Owen Hart fell from the rafters to the ring.
😭😨😭😨
Here are two more on the Southeast side of Houston TX there was neighborhood with 150 to 250 homes were built between 1978 and 1981. A lot of people who im lived this neighborhood were getting cancer 3 1/2 to 4 years later everyone abandoned the neighborhood it was built on a old garbage dumb site it is not called Brio Superfund site. One more this one is on the Northeast side Houston on 1960 close to lake Houston. A Russia company that was scam in the early to mid 1990s clear land built streets they never ran power or sewer line for the neighborhood. There were plans for 175 to 250 home most of the lots were sold nothing was ever built.
Too bad the California high speed rail isn't finished. Gavin Newsom could have used it to escape when the FBI and Justice Department enters San Francisco to arrest him In 2025.
Detroit needs many jailhouses. Do I need to explain why?
in my experience when i studied, most people hate on brutalism in architecture have zero probs with the most ugliest mall, supermarket, and whatnot architecture or housings made by profit only oriented construction companies imaginable.
There is a leaning tower in Teluk Intan in Malaysia, its a rather interesting building. Check it out on Google
YAHN, not Jan. The Dutch pronounce J as a Y. And it's BROOZH, not BROOGS. They made a fucking movie with the name in the title. FFS.
To be fair, I prefer a human mucking up the pronunciation over an AI voice any day. In addition, 'oude' as in 'Oude Kerk' is pronounced like 'awde'. The French pronounce the 'ou' as 'oo' in English, but the Dutch don't. Except, of course, if it's a French word, like 'croupier'. Dutch phonology can sometimes be a bit mystifying.
The Church of St Mary and All Saints, Chesterfield, UK. The Church began to be built in 1234. Durring the 14th century the Church was expanded. A wooden framed spire was added around 1362. Due to shortage of labour caused by the black death it thought inexperienced craftsmen used unseasonal timer with insufficient bracing to hold to structure in place. In the 17th century 33tons of lead was used to clad the spire. This has resulted in a 45 degree twist now causes the tip to lean 9ft 6in (2.9m) off centre. Local legend has it that the spire will straighten up if a virgin ever marries in the church.
Another fascinating video. It's always fun to see what category you're going to come up with. Wow is the Thames still that filthy? I thought they'd cleaned it up.
I've watched a ton of your videos, your narration has really improved, great work!!
When my father retired from the military, he eventually found a job as a civilian at Edwards AFB. He eventually bought a home that was farther out of the city - practically out in BFE (Bum Fark Egypt). There are some areas that are built up with more homes; other areas where there's a million dollar home out in the middle of no where and other areas where it's nothing but a shart hole of partially abandon homes. It's perfect for him since he's antisocial, but I couldn't live there. His electric bill is high 'cause the AC is running all the time. There is no greenery' 'cause it's a flippin' desert and not practical to use a crap ton of water for grass. It's hotter than hell. But like I said, it suits him just fine.
Been up the Big Bem Tower (i know this is the name of the bell, not tower). Was there at 1200 to feel the "bongs" or chimes go through you.
Fairly recently, they named it the Elizabeth Tower, but most people call it Big Ben. I had no idea that it was leaning.
The tower is leaning . . . . . USA: Call the lawyers Europe: Lets give it a few hundred years and see what happens.
can you timestamp where lawyers were called?
Lol fun observation

More people are working from home. These companies don’t need these huge buildings for office space anymore.

Lista je sranje
There was also the steeple of the First Congregational Church in New London, CT, which stood for 165 years after its architect told the congregation that it was unsafe and that the contractor had botched the masonry that supported it. Sadly, after the reinforcements that were added to stabilize it had been neglected for some time, it collapsed in early 2024. Maybe there should be a separate video for structures that survived the longest in precarious condition before collapsing.
Cool video Bud, if you want to get great pictures of a Viaduct, come on up to Susquehanna Pa, we happen to have a stone Viaduct that was built for the Erie railroad back in 1847/48, and is still in use today,
70 % sold 90 % not ?????
Narrowing this list down to just ten must have been quite the undertaking. I'm from California, and the high speed rail is the poster child of cost overruns and being way behind schedule.
There were certainly a lot of them... could definitely do a part 2 (and 3 and 4)
Florida subdivision road layout are terrible
Another HIGHLY successful FAILURE, is the Harry Reid solar project Southwest of Las Vegas, NV. The project consists of hundreds of highly polished mirrors directed at a tower located in the center of the massive acreage. The tower contains salt that would be melted, heating water, to steam, then turning turbines to produce electricity. Since it involved Senator Harry Reid, the actual pricetag was never disclosed, and most likely would have included massive graft. The science was proven, it did melt salt, but the placement was in the middle of the migratory bird route. Birds would fly into the area, and in seconds they would be roasted. There's not a total of how many birds got snuffed out.😅
And yet, there are many more very nice examples, not well known, but just as nice. For example, the Terneuzen city hall (Terneuzen, Zeeland, Netherlands), or the Delft University of Technology Aula building (Delft, Netherlands). It's very hard to rate buildings, since 'most beautiful' is something one cannot measure.
There are definitely lots of cool ones!
Have you heard of California 252? It is now a cancelled freeway. It was originally proposed to connect I-805 with the intersection of I-5 and I-15 on the southern edge of San Diego. They built the ramps from I-805, but the rest of the freeway (about 1.25 miles) was opposed by people in the neighborhood. The ramps from I-805 are now used as the 43rd Street exit.
Not familiar with that one, thanks for mentioning it!
Milwaukee lost not just one but *two* downtown railroad stations- the other being the Chicago and NorthWestern lakefront station. Incidentally, the replacement for the Everett St. Station was built further south (now with a handsome new facade), closer to the Menonomee River, and cut off from downtown by a monster elevated freeway. The site of the old station (which fronted the city's oldest park) is now occupied by a souless office building.
That's a shame, I didn't realize there was a second one!
Boston is a center of Brutalist architecture. Check out the book, "Heroic- Concrete Architecture and the New Boston" (2015, The Monacelli Press). One of my favorites is the Christian Science Center, by Araldo Cossutta in I.M. Pei's office (master plan).
I don't understand the Amstutz Expressway. I looked at it on a map and there are cars traveling on it. It has several exist, and an end and beginning that are accessible. I also don't get the one in Baltimore.
What part of it doesn't make sense to you?
@BuildingTales The road does go somewhere...
Lifelong Boston resident. If you think City Hall is beautiful, I'm afraid we have to disagree. City Hall plaza is a wind blown desert, no trees, no nothing, just a brick patch of ugliness where no one hangs out. City Hall looms over the plaza, piling ugliness upon ugliness. No one I know likes it.
Agree to disagree! I think its cool
@@BuildingTales I kind of liked it when it was first built, but for many of us that live with it, that like has worn thin. Add to the fact that "Government Center" replaced a vibrant downtown Scollay Square. I think we can agree it's extreme in it's brutalist design. Especially the interior.
There's going to be a new sheriff in town on Jan 20, the lazy working from home BS is going to come to an end.
you forgot the border wall.
"...as increased environmental regulations..." The mine was IN THE DESERT! Not on a lake or a waterway or above some ground water table...IN THE DESERT. And people wonder why things went downhill in this country. Regulations applied like a blanket instead of being smart and doing things case by case.
You should take a look at Louis Kahn’s National Assembly building in Bangladesh. It would definitely be on my top 10 list.
Thanks for the suggestion!
disney could have built it by now the monirail hello!!!! have every designs to build all read!!!
now you know why trump cut funding and why congress is getting richer!
Should be converted to reasonably priced rental units. The worlds changes demand it WAY over offices to work in.
St. Louis doesn't need more -ghetto- public housing.
