Thanks for this. I remember someone saying they once had a power cut in the dark, and with all the certainties of modern life stripped away in a moment, first panicked. But then settled and listened to the silence and loneliness of the house, and also the safety the house still offered. It made me remember being a child of the 70s and experiencing semi routine power cuts. I remember at first being scared, but then welcoming them, and hoping for the next one, while still fearing the fragility of modern life and how it was just a layer on top of the sounds and feelings that still exist within silence. This reminded me of all of that.

Hi Bradley. Been a while. I was attracted by the title of Spiritual Fakery, and wondered as to how much you're willing to see the full extent of this contamination, especially within activism. The Green Party and XR are the most toxic and fake environments I've ever been in. But it's worse than that. They're contaminated with a sense of themselves as an master race on a mission to civilise those with less refined minds and mannerisms than themselves. This used to be more transparent. The vehicles were The White Man's Burden and Middle Class etiquettes, which were used to patronise and subhumanise those they felt a pitying benevolence towards. Such as those they also enslaved while introducing the Bible to them. Nowadays the mindset remains, I think a lot of this is rooted epigenetic repetition (another issue) but the vehicles tend to be prescribing yoga, meditation and NVC. I watched XR implode as it became hijacked by these people. 2 hour meetings became 90 minutes of NVC training, and of course,working class people and black people needed more of it, which they politely imposed. Almost everyone else except these people with their crushing middle class superiority complexes (or their less wealthy children) eventually left. XR imploded with only this narrower demographic remaining. What is most breathtaking and bizarre is they think they are Decolonising, while using variations of this White Man's Burden style colonisation of the mind, which underpinned it. That it has flavours of eastern mysticism now added to it doesn't change that. New and Improved Spiritual Fakery. Their minds are thoroughly diseased and contaminated from root to tip with this toxic superiority complex, and far from meditation, yoga and NVC reducing this complex, they only seem to further fuel and inflame their sense of being superior beings on a thoroughly condescending civilising mission. It is the core reason why environmentalism isn't gaining more traction. It's been hijacked, and they stink of the same old civilising rubbish, but now updated with yoga, meditation and NVC as the tools used to makes themselves feel superior and able to prescribe remedies to people's anger, which really we need more of. Which is the other facet of it. The middle classes were created to hijack political groups and patronise all that righteous anger out of the working class, with an imposition of their etiquettes. Prescribing yoga, meditation and NVC are the new tools for bludgeoning necessary anger and injustice out of environmentalism and political movements. It is functionality far worse than being a bit self absorbed. These are the tools used to hijack environmentalism and patronise the anger out of people, at the expense of the environment and broader support. In practice this mindset and these tools function as a Doomsday Devices which guarantee we can never get a mass movement. They kill it at birth. I do now advocate for a civil war within environmentalism. If I ever get into a position to do so I will process the Green Party leadership and those who hijacked XR, through the Ecocide Courts on the above charge. Yoga mats and meditation rooms will be provided while they are held awaiting trial. Honestly, I'm not joking. I hope you can see the extent of the problem. But I'll leave you with this. One of the characters in a book I'm writing is a Sufi Mystic. She meditates. She's a beautiful human being. A better person than me, even though she's a conjuring of my mind. Unlike all those white Gandhi's who don't even touch the sides of enlightenment and inversely seem to move further away from it the more they meditate, do yoga, impose NVC. Best wishes, James

A truly worthy subject matter Bradley. We crossed paths at the Fool workshop in Bristol some 5 years ago and I could sense then that we had an accord regarding exactly this very topic. I'm glad to see and hear you tackling it so well with this Vlog; I personally think that it comes from a fear of truly knowing ourselves, so instead there remains a need for the 'validation' (ie narcissism) of others to fill that black hole within. Because to truly know ourselves requires a fundamental degree of humility and humbleness - sacrifice even; or as you mention with the Buddhist unattachment principles... ...Keep up the fantastic work 🙂

Wow Bradley! I actually completely understood this! I’ve always said that movement was my meditation and this explanation clarified why that is. I’ve experienced this state while running (especially trail running at full speed, minding my next step or two steps so I don’t break an ankle), and I’ve also experienced it playing basketball (observation of the court and feeling into what my next move is - I remember I used to just “know” when my shots were about to go in as soon as it left my fingertips too). I can’t wait to try this with my breathing. Coincidentally I’m reading BE HERE NOW at the moment! So watching this at the perfect time as I struggle to be in the moment.

Yeah, love this. All the blended jazzy, deep based soul has echos of Massive Attack and Soul to Soul. Soft and oozing, but with a darker underbelly. I think this tune would be good for playing around with too with even deeper bassline remixes and more woven into it.
