I used a USB nic for about a year and a half before upgrading hardware, but that was on my second network just for my desktop and one SSID. I still had my old router plugged in at the time. After about a year I switched to a dedicated x86 router hardware box running OpnSense. Depending on what brand USB NIC you choose, it may be completely fine, but I think you may want to do some testing before committing to anything long term. I also found that drivers on pfsense were not always great- and that is was made me try OpnSense - specific example was a usb adapter was able to connect, but throughput seems to be very slow, like under 1mbps. Same hardware with OpnSense and full speed. Your mileage may vary. For the best experience research what chipsets are supported by your preferred software, and then buy your hardware accordingly.

@@benjamincabalonajr6417 ​ there are mini network cards that you might be able to insert into one of the internal slots. I did that on one of my tiny models and an HP mini. Loom for one that has the internal connector that comes out the edge rather than at 90 degrees from the board. It fits flatter.

Most good networks cards forward the traffic in hardware, they don't pass the processing g off to the CPU. some cheap ones do, and beware of the Intel clones. All that to say, I probably cant change your mind, so how about you just test it yourself to prove me wrong 😂

May not have driver support in the Linux kernal. Try a different adapter, or, try OPNSense instead.

@@triash4450 I never got a 4.4 adapter with my headphones or the Bluetooth dac, so I can't answer that definitively.

Yep! Factory defect? It's not a very big heatsink, so it's still functional. I've considered removing both to swap for something from a laptop so I can quiet it down, but I have not found one that's compatible. That funky chip layout makes that a very custom design.

The transfer of heat into the metal is going to be mostly the same, even if it looks unusual. The bigger issue is that it doesn't look like it's covering the whole chip

I wondered that myself! I considered putting a laptop heatsink on them to replace both heat sinks, just have not yet found a heat pipe and block that are wide enough and don't have the right tools to make my own block. Happy hacking!

@@jarenhavell I was thinking about 3D printing a top cover with a hole and mounting points for either 120x120x15mm fan inside or 120x120x25 standard fan on the top (since I won't be installing it in rack). I just don't know if there will be enough space inside. 120mm fan would push a lot more air volume while being virtually silent. It would also basically cover the whole board and SFP+ ports. If you use SFP+ -> RJ45 modules they can get really hot. This way I can always go back to original cover and fan and not lose my warranty :)

If you keep restarting it will eventually go to the repair screen. Alternatively you could boot up the computer using a USB disk. I have had good luck using Hirens Boot CD for devices that are bitlocker encrypted.

The account you used to access the terminal does not have administrative rights. If that's the case, it might be best to contact your IT department for help. If you don't have an IT dept, it could be that you need to use a USB disk with a Windows installer or a windows Pe to boot it up.

Change to another drive letter such as D, E, F, etc. if you still can't find the drive it could be that the storage driver was not loaded and you may need to get a windows installer disk or windows pe disk that has drivers in it.

Do you even have CrowdStrike Falcon software installed? If you do, find out what your system drive is. Type "set" without quotes, press Enter and look for SystemDrive=C: SystemRoot=C:\Windows That letter can be anything from the most common C or other letters (D E F G and so on) which is less common. Last, Windows command prompt isn't case sensitive like Linux/Unix systems.

NF-A4x20mm Noctua PWM fan, and leds were just random stuff i had kicking around. if you look at my other videos I think there is more details, but basically just an esp8266 flashed with wled connected to standard addressable RGB led strip, all of which I got off amazon.

It's just a plastic shim. The electrical connection is the same.

It's like covering a license plate. There is nothing your average person can do with the information, it cant be used with a reverse lookup without access to a private database, but we still instinctively try to cover for anonymity. good luck hacking me!

Default sticker password is only used when you reset the device to factory settings. RouterOS will make you change the password after first login. Mikrotik changed that fairly recently, because earlier devices were not password protected at factory settings levels (but you also needed to set the password at first connect). It's just added security level, because there were people that used MT devices as standard unmanaged switches without ever logging into RouterOS, even in office or large scale onsite networks and that was just asking for trouble.

They were fine, mostly quiet, but this switch runs really hot. The fans kick up in volume every once in a while in the summer. But ...I just turned it off and I'm using the new Mikrotik for now.

That would be interesting. I'm not sure if you can run any custom code, but the WLED controller has an API- it can change color to a pre-defined preset using a very simple POST request. Very possible!

@@jarenhavell RouterOS7 can use http POST request (/tool/fetch command) and program requests from scheduller, Netwatch, traffic monitor, dhcp server/client and many others
