SMBX Custom Level: Chargin' Chucks' Canyon
A level with nothing too gimmicky...except for almost every variant of Chargin' Chuck--including Confused Chucks, Passin' Chucks, and Diggin' Chucks--coming after the player.
Sorry for the simple music; I couldn't really think of anything other than the one I chose and the SMW overworld theme.

SMBX Custom Level: Pac-Man Arcade

Similar to the Donkey Kong Arcade level I made several years ago, this one is my attempt at a (somewhat) faithful recreation of the Pac-Man arcade...SMBX-style, of course! Also, I apologize for not using dots and Pac-Man to replace the Coins and the P-Balloon, respectively; I tried, but I kept getting an error message that said something like, "Incorrect image," and then the game would shut off...

I like how you took the trouble to make a boomerang that goes back and forth to its boomerang bro :0
Thanks so much! It’s so nice when people appreciate the effort it takes to make those things in levels. :) Thanks for your kind words. :)
Level so Pretty!
Thanks. :)
Great use of Charging Chuck types to provide obstacles for the player. Though if the music bothers you, I'd recommend Chainlink Charge from Super Mario 3D World. I think it would fit the level pretty well.
This will need LunaLua to work, and I don't think he knows how to use it.
Thanks! I listened to the song, and it sounded good for this level. :)
@@louis11.1 I don't think this is in SMBX2, since SMBX2 already has chucks, and therefore doesn't have Luna lua.
Additionally, instead of silence, perhaps the SMASH version of PACMAN would fit better. (Though it ultimately depends on if you even like that song. It's good but it's a bit niche in terms of taste.)
I just listened to it, and it sounds great for the level! Thanks for the suggestion. :)
@@omberonilink4118 No problem. Even if you don't use it, I'm glad you're giving my suggestion some thought.
No worries! I always give your great suggestions thought; like for some example, when you recommended I make a boss for my “Deranged Dirigible” level, I made one (“Boss Boom Bill”), so I alway take your ideas seriously and appreciate them. :)
This level is pretty creative but the Ghosts could potentially corner Mario and lead to an unfair death. I think it might be better if only Blinky chases Mario directly while Pinky and Inky goes in distinct patterns that is in line with their personalities (Pinky could use routes that can coordinate with Blinky's chasing behavior while Inky can meekly travel in more predictable paths. Clyde is perfect as he is; aimlessly going from one side of the screen to the other is in character for him.)
Thanks so much for the ideas; they’re perfect, especially with Pinky and Inky. I could have them replace Sparkies or Zoomers (those enemies that crawl along the ceilings), too, Do you think that would work well?
@omberonilink4118 I think they will do just fine.
Awesome! Thanks so much!
@omberonilink4118 No problem. I hope these suggestions help bring the level to a new...well...level. 😅
Lol! I’m loving these puns! 😆
The idea of this boss is really *cool* but its attack variety need some enhancements. Here's some suggestions. Phase 1. Keep it the same as presented in the video. Essentially it serves as a tutorial. Phase 2. Incorporate different Ice Projectiles. The first new type will behave like a slow moving Rinka. Phase 3. The second new projectle acts like a Bomb and can be picked up and used by Link. Phase 4 The final Phase can incorporate a deadly Ice Lightning Projectile that delivers Icy Flames on the ground. Each new Projectile can be Summoned by Frostbot in a set order, forcing the player to understand his pattern to win the fight. Hopefully these ideas aren't too grandiose. Programming can be difficult so I understand if these ideas are a bit above your capabilities.
I love the pun! I also love your ideas! I’d like to make those attack variations for this boss and maybe even a future boss, too. Thanks for the great ideas!
I expected a little more changes with Hyper Goomba King (like perhaps a jump attack or something.) but the second phase makes up for it by being a major step up in both difficulty and tone.
Ooooh, I wish I had thought of that jump attack! That would have been a great idea. The main difference is that, being a Hyper Goomba, this variant moves faster than the standard Goomba King, but I agree that some new attacks would have made things more interesting. Thanks for the ideas and feedback. :) Thanks! I wanted to do more with the second phase as well, but ran out of ideas, sadly.
@omberonilink4118 If you need some ideas, a suggestion I would recommend is to allow Ghost Goomboss to Summon honing green flames along with his barrier. As he takes damage, the flames can become faster and more aggressive.
That’s a great idea! Thanks so much. :)
Pretty impressive and interesting! ;-) 👌🏽
Thanks a lot. :)
@omberonilink4118 No problem, Omber! ;-) 👌🏽 How are things going over there?
Thanks for asking, my friend. :) Sadly, I lost my best friend in real life. :( Someone or something turned her against me, and I’ve been experiencing severe grief over them, as I miss her so much. :’(
@@omberonilink4118 I'm sorry to hear that my friend. :-(
It’s OK. Thanks for your sympathy, my friend.
3:11 A slight criticism I have is the presence of the Bloopers. I don't think they are necessary, as this stage of the level is difficult enough without them from my perspective. I think removing them altogether would be beneficial to the level design but it's ultimately your decision.
Yes, I definitely agree with you on the Bloopers. I think either replacing them with Jelectros or just removing them altogether would be a good idea.
I think you're being a little harsh to yourself; this level is still great as far as I'm concerned, even without a major gimmick. With the aggressive Rip Van Fish and other various undersea traps, it seems like it would be the perfect conclusion to a difficult undersea world. All it needs is a boss to round it out.
Thanks so much for the kind words, Almond Joy. I really appreciate them. Thanks. I’ve always liked the Rip Van Fish as enemies, so I couldn’t resist finding a way to incorporate them into one of my levels.
A wonderful use of SML2 assets to create a visual striking level! Sabasa (The Witch) actually look a bit harder than her original self in some ways but I liked her old method of using her magic to shoot the pots towards some spikes on the ceiling. Maybe that can be incorporated as well ( the spikes on the ceiling, I mean.)
Thanks so much! :) Oh, so her name is Sabasa? Thanks so much! I was trying to find her name (as well as the name of the cyclops enemy), so thanks so much for the info. :) Oh, yeah, I remember! I probably should have added a second phase where Sabasa adds spikes to the ceiling. Thanks for the idea (and again for telling me the witch’s name, as I couldn’t find it earlier lol).
@@omberonilink4118 You're welcome. (And the Cyclopes are called "Kyororos".)
Thanks so much! I would have never guessed the cyclopes’ name lol.
Hey, Almond, you won’t believe this, but I was reading a book about Japanese mythical creatures called Yōkai, and one of them in the book, Hitotsume Kozō, is apparently the one Kyororo is based on; the book even mentions Kyororo from Super Mario Land 2 as an example of the Yōkai in pop-culture! Just reminded me of you, because you taught me the cyclops’s name. :)
@@omberonilink4118 That's an interesting coincidence! I already knew of the Hitotsume Kozō but I'm surprised Kyororos are actually mentioned as an example in a book.
The use of Icy Ptooies and Snowfits are extremely *ice* . They made for a very *cool* level!
Icy what you did there. 😉 Thanks snow much. :)
Petey Piranha would have loved this place. I like that you used the different enemy types to create effective obstacles for the player. Kept the level interesting throughout its duration.
He would have, but he might also ruin the natural beauty of it by barfing everywhere like he did in Sunshine lol! Thanks so much! :) I like adding a variety of enemies.

Are you either using SMBX 1.3 or 1.3.0.1 with the music and sounds being changed cosmetically with higher quality ones like that on an SNES?
Why is there a black rectangle on the bottom right of the screen?
To be honest with you, I don’t actually know what caused it. I remember trying to get rid of it, but unfortunately it just wouldn’t go away lol.
@@omberonilink4118 Ok, thanks though. BTW, what screen recorder was used for the video?
I used Bandicam. :)
How did you make the fire and boomerang bros?
Oh, well, for the Fire Bros., I had them replace an SMB3 Goomba, set to “don’t move,” and had the fireballs replace npc-129 (I can’t remember their names, but it’s those bouncing bird enemies from SMB2, though I increased their Speed to about 3 or 4 and made it to where it hurts you if you jump on them), then I created two Events and a Layer called “fireballs”: on Event makes the “shoot fireball” sound an is Activated by the fireball appearing on-screen; the second Event is “Fire Bros. killed,” which removes the “fireballs” Layer. :) As for the Boomerang Bros., I had them replace the SML2 Goomba (ALSO set to “don’t move”), and made the boomerang Layer ( replaces npc-46-the red Donut Block-and set it to where it hurts you if you touch it AT ALL) move by creating several Events like, “Boomerang move left,” then “Boomerang move down,” “Boomerang move right,” and “Boomerang move up” (there are a LOT more Events to the Boomerang, but if you like, I can make a tutorial video on how they work? :) ). Finally, I made an Event called “Boomerang Bros. killed,” which removes the “boomerang” Layer. Sorry for the long explanation, but I hope that helps! Let me know if you need any more help, and I can always create a tutorial video on how to make the Fire Bros. and Boomerang Bros. work. :)
@@omberonilink4118 Thank you so much, and are you using SMBX 1.3? Because I noticed that you’re using the old editor
You are very welcome! Thanks-a-so much for to watching my video lol. :) Yes, correct! I’ve tried using the newer editors, but my computer is a bit old and has trouble running the newer editors (even though they’re much better).
@@omberonilink4118 I’m sorry about your computer being old and not being able to run the new editors properly.
Oh, no worries, dude! It’s all good. Plus, I kinda like the simplicity of the old editor; I’m a bit of an old fart lol!
Download link?
Is this 1.3? or 1.3.0.1?
Good level
Thanks so much. :)
Rawk Hawk's music definitely fit this battle, as Super Koopa is just as much of a showboat as he is. Additionally, I like how after all of those elaborate attacks, he can still be stomped out like a normal Koopa Troopa. Makes his boasts all the more amusing.
Thanks so much! Yeah, that’s what I thought too, as while I was designing the boss fight, it kept reminding me of Rawk Hawk, so I decided to use his battle theme for this boss. :) Lol, thanks so much! I got the idea from the Electrocutioner boss “fight” from Arkham Origins; a boss that talks big, but dies in one hit lol.
What I do like is that the boss uses the same mechanic of jumping through lava as its minions throughout the level. Nice touch.
Thanks so much! I wanted to make it feel like a real giant Podoboo by jumping and falling through the lava. :)
While it's a shame the boss couldn't be more elaborate, atleast the level made up for it. The real challenge of this stage is to get through the Bastion itself, rather than defeating the boss.
Thanks so much. Yes, exactly. It’s one of those “hard level, easy boss” type levels. :) I agree, though; I really wanted to make the boss longer with more phases (like making it leap horizontally across the arena), but I sadly ran out of Layers and Events lol. I’m thinking I may make the boss a separate level by making the boss door the exit out of this level and the entrance to the separate boss level, if that makes sense? :)
@@omberonilink4118 That is actually exactly what I think you should do. You probably should do it for almost every complex boss so that you will have as many events as possible.
Thanks so much for the great suggestion! I may even have make an updated version of the boss of this level. :)

What kind of plot is your game gonna have to future stuff like *this* ?! It's so out of place that it makes it stand out from typical Mario fare. Though as for the level design, the creepy enemies and insta-death mechanics makes the player be constantly on edge.
Well, I don’t think I’m going to include this one in my project since it’s rather dark and creepy for the standards of said project, so this one is more of a random side-level not included in my project. :) Oh, thanks so much! It’s my first horror-based level, so I’m really glad it worked out well. :)

A very well designed level. The ice themed enemies really mesh well together and climbing the interior of the trees makes for neat vertical platforming. I'm surprised you didn't pick Shiver Star but Quiet Forest somehow fits even better.
Thanks so much, Almond! I tend to like vertical levels for some reason lol. Thanks! I was torn between Shiver Star, the snow theme from DKC3, and Quiet Forest, so I’m glad the last one worked out the best. :)
Is this music from Kirby? I think I remember it Another question: You still have contact with these guys on the description? (including redigit?)

Thanks so much! Nice people like you are what encourages me to keep making them. :)
@@omberonilink4118 No problem. ;-) 👌🏽 BTW, would you like to be a part of my community of the legends? :-)
Amazing. The section inside the tree reminds me of wet and green from the Apocalypse of Foroze. I love how cherries from SMB2 are used as collectables. I also really like how you did the ice bro. Most people would just reskin the hammer bro and not bother making him actually work like in the games. I love seeing creative ways to create enemies that aren't in SMBX.
Thanks so much! I remember that level! I really liked that one. Thanks so much! I tried to make the cherries look icy lol. Thanks so much! I strive to make the enemies interesting and behave like they would in the actual games, so hearing your feedback means a lot. :) Thanks so much again for the kind comment. :)
I was wondering if you were going to place a boss in this level and this one is perfect! A Bro possessing the projectile of the others is a brilliant idea and encapulates the idea of the level as a whole.
Thanks so much, Almond! Yeah, I wanted to put him in the level itself, but he required a LOT of Events and Layers to work properly, so I had to make a separate level for him. Thanks so much! I always love your comments and feedback. :)
Pretty amazing level right there! ;-) 👌🏽

@@omberonilink4118 No problem, and I forgot to tell you that I changed my username to KenLegendFR.
You've really put the the Bros. Corps to good use in this level. With their tricky placement and projectiles hindering your progress, it really shows off why they are Bowser's most Elite minions behind the Magikoopas and Koopalings.
Thanks so much, Almond! I’ve always loved those enemies, and they rank among my favorite of Bowser’s minions (my number one favorite is Shy Guy, though). What’s your favorite Mario enemy, BTW? :)
@omberonilink4118 My favorite Mario enemy has to be the Snifits. They look almost identical to Shy Guys but their gun faces and snarky attitudes really make them stand out from their pale-faced contemporaries.
Snifits are awesome. I love that one scene in Color Splash where, after locking Mario in prison, the Snifit says, “Well, I’ve already locked you in jail. There isn’t actually anything much worse I can do without raising this game’s age rating.” 😂
@omberonilink4118 Usually I dislike meta humor like that but it fits the situation so well that I can't complain about it.
Nice recreation. Though I expected the final phase to be longer,, it is understandable given that it's a remake of a NES Boss.

Agreed! It’s an underrated classic. Yes, the pits are so annoying, especially those Unithorns that attack you and make you lose coins.
I got incredible whiplash from the SM64 star get tune.
8:51 Love the use of Megalovania. However an enemy rush instead of a unique boss is a bit disappointing. Nonetheless, it was still a good conclusion to an epic level.
Thanks so much! Yes, I agree. I was actually originally going to make a Sans battle instead of the enemy rush (hence the Megalovania music). I might actually try again to make it!
The theme for this level allows for a surprisingly high degree of creativity for the enemy roster. You even managed to include Peepas as their own type of threat seperate from Boo Buddies.
Thanks so much! Yes, I’ve always felt that Peepas are underrated Mario enemies, so I figured I’d include some in this level. :)

This is extremely interesting! How is the player "leading" Bubble Buddy? He doesn't seem automated.
Thanks so much! Oh, basically the Blob Buddy replaces the Bot slimes from Zelda 2, so it follows the player around. If Mario is behind the blob, it will go backwards; if Mario is in FRONT of the blob, it will move forwards. :)
That is pretty exceptional right there! ;-) 👌🏽 A massive bubble buddy helped him out.
