Gothik Serpent
Сингапур
Добавлен 12 авг 2014
Gothik Serpent is a one-man studio band (and guest musicians) from Singapore that wields the sounds of progressive rock and influences from groups such as Rush, Porcupine Tree, The Beach Boys, ABBA, Nine Inch Nails, King Crimson, and Hans Zimmer to forge its own musical path.
Roundabout | Yes | Full Band Cover
Roundabout by @yesofficial (off their 1971 album, Fragile) is one of the first great prog anthems I was exposed to years before I even picked up an instrument. Chris Squire's growling, locomotive bass line, Steve Howe's and Rick Wakeman's highly technical guitar and keyboard playing, Bill Bruford's crisp drums and Jon Anderson's distinct vocals are the bedrock upon which 1970s prog was built on. For the longest time, I had wanted to cover the song, but could never find the right people who were skilled enough to tackle its challenging parts...until now.
After playing with Goi and ET at the local blues jam, I set into motion what would arguably be the most technical Gothik Serpent cover eve...

Time Stand Still | Full Band Cover | Rush

After spending nearly a decade working like a dog, at one point working two jobs concurrently, the nightmare that was the pandemic made me realize how easily the most meaningful and enjoyable parts of life can be taken away from you. Suddenly, Neil Peart's lyrics to one of my favorite @rush songs, Time Stand Still from Hold Your Fire, took on a new meaning. So from 2023 on, I devoted a lot more...
Gothik Serpent - Smash the State | Official Music Video
Просмотров 4742 месяца назад
After six years of exploring new sounds and fine tuning my production capabilities with covers of my favorite songs, it was finally time to put these newfound skills to use in the creation of original material. Smash the State is the first Gothik Serpent song since 2018's Usurper, and is the first of seven songs that will form a fourth original album, Antagonist. This tune began with a drumbeat...
Lazarus | Gothik Serpent Live Cover | Porcupine Tree
Просмотров 3124 месяца назад
To quote Olivia when I asked her if she'd be interested in finally performing together live, "I knew this day was coming." Indeed, it was only a matter of time before the intersection of the right people and opportunity created the impetus for the first-ever Gothik Serpent live performance. This performance of @PorcupineTreeOfficial 's Lazarus was drawn from our 30-minute set on June 15 at the ...
Lazarus | Full Band Cover | Porcupine Tree

Arguably the prettiest of all @PorcupineTreeOfficial songs, Lazarus, off their album Deadwing, is a beautiful yet mysterious tale of a son who is beckoned by the spirit of his deceased mother to escape a miserable life (at least, that's what I interpreted from @StevenWilsonHQ's lyrics). It's one of three PT songs, the other being Fear of a Blank Planet and Blackest Eyes, that often catches the ...
Stinkfist | Full Band Cover | Tool

I had been wanting to cover @TOOLmusic 's Stinkfist, off their 1996 album Ænima, for a long time, but couldn't think of an interesting way to put my spin on it. After sharpening my skills and ears over the past few years, I had a vision of a Gothik Serpent rendition which was played one string lower, in drop A instead of D, and splitting Maynard James Keenan's vocal parts between myself and Oli...
Manhattan Project | Full Band Cover | Rush

Manhattan Project by @rush, off their Power Windows album, has the distinction of being the very first Rush song I listened to. Almost 20 years ago, a friend of mine sent me the song and raved about how the lyrics objectively told the story of the Manhattan Project without any cliched proselytizing. Little did I know that it would be this song that would serve as the starting point of my musica...

Go Your Own Way | Full Band Cover | Fleetwood Mac

If you've been following this channel, it should be apparent by now that I love vocal harmonies, and Go Your Own Way by @fleetwoodmac off their masterpiece Rumours, is right up there with Good Vibrations and Bohemian Rhapsody in that regard. Most of the songs I've covered involved adapting all-male vocals to a male-female vocal combo (myself and Olivia), so for a change I wanted to try a song t...

The very first @PorcupineTreeOfficial I ever listened to is none other than the title track of their landmark album, Fear of a Blank Planet. When I first listened to it, I thought it sounded like a fairly benign modern rock song. It was only after repeated listens that I realized what an astonishing work of musical genius it is, thanks to @StevenWilsonHQ 's layered production, Gavin Harrison's ...
You Made Me Realise | Full Band Cover | My Bloody Valentine

Well before I got into bands like Rush and Porcupine Tree, I was knee deep into shoegaze music from the likes of @jesusandmarychainofficial , @slowdiveband , and of course @mbvofficial. These bands were the sound of my late high school and early college years. Although You Made Me Realise came right before My Bloody Valentine (Kevin Shields, Bilinda Butcher, Debbie Googe, Colm Ó Cíosóig) perfec...

@rush is my favorite band, but it's hard to cover them because of Geddy Lee's inimitable vocals, Alex Lifeson's virtuosic playing, and Neil Peart's complex patterns. However, I realized that one of my most treasured Rush tunes, The Garden from Clockwork Angels, was not particularly difficult to play and presented a great opportunity to experiment with different tones and plugins. The Gothik Ser...

The centerpiece of @PorcupineTreeOfficial 's The Incident is a poignant reflection on one's life before embarking on a new phase, and above all, a masterclass on modern progressive rock thanks to @StevenWilsonHQ 's songwriting, Gavin Harrison drumming, Colin Edwin's driving bass, and Richard Barbieri's lush synthesizer work. I originally covered this song as part of my cover of the entire The I...

Well done indeed, gentlemen. You nailed it.
I went to see YES at Crystal Palace Park London UK, 1971, Fragile tour, /Close 2 the Edge , What a trip ,as usual You have Nailed IT! Regards 💯💯
Great cover guys ! I don’t know how the algorithm hasn’t picked this up yet !? I especially love the vocal harmonies. Keep truckin guys.
Well done! I also appreciate the King Crimson t-shirt. You know your classics, Mr. Tsang.
You guys from Singapore? Just come back from there
Phenomenal cover
Kerwin daltry
Come to Chicago/ st louis area
wow nice one
Superb cover!
Long time Yes fan since the early 70s. Love your version! The vocals gave it a true distinction. ❤
Squier's 4001 he primarily played through the neck pickup as his bridge pickup was faulty, played through a 1960's Marshall bass head. Additionally he had the bass sanded down quit a bit due to repainting and even had floral wallpaper on it, significantly reducing to body weight which affects the tone, I did something similar in the early 1990's with a burgundy finish 1974 4001 (deeply regret in hindsight) and got really close tonaly. I find with a maple neck fender jazz I can get closer to that 'roundabout' tone with some good steel strings, either rotosounds or IT'S. Eq it a bit through my svt and I'm there.
Great cover. Only Rush could approach a topic like this with dignity, maturity, and sensitivity, no divisiveness and "arguing" one side, just profound artistry. Very respectfully covered.
Enjoyed this very much, fantastic cover.
Amazing!!!
I love this cover.
I'm going to draw the line and I think the cover is excellent, my congratulations, what you do is incredible
Awesome. ❤️✝️🇺🇸
Fellow Singaporean here... and all I can say is YES!!!!
OMG you guys faithfully reproduced the sounds of this masterpiece! Great job!
super tight cover. very well done 🤙🤙
Oh cool. Chapman Stick. I've had the pleasure of meeting him at a NAMM show. Cool dude. RIP.
Of all the bands that present covers like this, the mix you guys did of this is way better than the other bands I've heard. I've been recording for 25 years and this mix is solid. Well done.

Damn.
I can't think of a more difficult yet brilliant song to cover, well done, what a fantastic band and sound, just amazing.
Fantastic. I am so glad I discovered you guys. Plus, you’ve introduced me to some great music.
Brother and sister.
I’m the 137th viewer. Great jog, Olivia & band. Did you know that this is one of our family’s favourite bands / songs? 🥳🥳🥳 I’ll share this on a Yes group that I’m with. 😁😊
Awesome guys! Keep playing more!!!
Wow!!!!!!!!!! The drums!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The guitar!!!!!!!!! The bass!!!!!!!!!!! The Keyboards!!!!!!!!!!!! The vocals!!!!!!!!!!!! You guys nailed it. Wow. I didn't think it was in the realm of possibilities for ANYBODY to cover this song so well. You are such inspiring musicians! And the art work on the video was phenomenal! Thank you for this amazing performance!
The song isn't technically that difficult. Good musicians should be able to play this. These guys are good.
Awesome work. Love it, love it, love it!❤🔥🤘
As always, sublime, it's so great to hear each detail you recreated with your own style, what a journey!
Amazing job, everyone!
Tons of people def realize how good this really is....let's hear some blackfield, opeth, riverside covers as well. Ear candy indeed!
Hell of a song to begin with, damn this is an excellent cover, bet steven loves it
Αν και έχει παραμείνει στην αφάνεια είναι πολύ ωραίο άλμπουμ μου θυμίζει λιγάκι το stupid dream.

My god - I grew up listening to this song and your version is so good it gave me chills. Great job you all.
Das ist perfekt !!!
That's a phenomenal job! A superb song like this couldn't be covered so competently, it can't be possible but I'm glad I witnessed it! Just thank you for offering a perfect cover! I barely still can't believe.
Great job, Lush!
Dov’è il batterista? Come si suona così?
Really well done guys!!!
this had no permission being this good. omfg you killed it! rock on brother \m/ edit: her singing parts are perfect <3
Thanks so much!
Great! Nice to see the younger generation with a taste for actual thoughtful music. If you really want to push yourselves check out Impact Fuze.
Thank you. I checked out Impact Fuze and...I think we're gonna need to do a hell of a lot more than just push ourselves haha.
@@gothikserpentmusic lolz! Yep, they're something else. Good luck in all your ventures.
Spectacular! Proves you don't need a soprano voice to do an awesome Rush cover. Another Canadian who thinks you honoured the original with your interpretation.
Thank you, its an honor! Some of their songs are completely inaccessible to my voice but thankfully Geddy sang this one at a relatively lower key.
Das ist Wunderbar !!!
Hi Kerwin and all involved, I have to say that this is really incredible. This song has been incredibly special to me for a long while. I’ve also recently started making an effort in reproducing the lovely sounds of progressive rock. I think Richard Barbieri would be super impressed with this!!! If you don’t mind me asking, how did you manage to recreate the sort of sireny sound in the beginning of the song? I’ve been experimenting with some synths and I can’t for the life of me figure it out. Really beautiful work, you’ve captured the essence of the band perfectly.
Thanks Preston. The opening siren sound was achieved by layering three different tracks, all running an Arturia Prophet plugin v3. First track has the "ProVS 41 Anahorn" preset. The second track has the same preset but with a much slower attack so that the notes fade in slowly, and is panned 60% to the right. The third track has the "Ambient keys" preset with the glide setting all the way up so that its note slide into one another. All three tracks are run through a fourth delay track that is running in parallel, and they're playing alternating notes in the opening melody to create this overlapping quality. Hope that makes sense!
@@gothikserpentmusic thanks so much for the response! Totally makes sense. Really appreciate it.
素晴らし過ぎる!!🇯🇵🇨🇦
Thank you, arigato gozaimasu.
