Linda Simpson and The Drag Explosion | CUNY TV Digital Series: Merlin’s People Like Me!
CUNY TV and Merlin’s People Like Me! celebrate Pride 2022, with our special guest, Linda Simpson, a chronicler of the 1980s and 90s Downtown Night Life Scene centered around the famed Pyramid Club. We met up for the interview at the Bureau of General Services--Queer Division, where we found our copy of The Drag Explosion, located in The Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Community Center on West 13th Street, in New York City.
The Drag Explosion was originally imagined as a slide show and has turned into a Coffee Table Book must have, with page after page of photos from a legendary time in the New York City Drag Scene.
It all began when Linda Simpson purchased an inexpensive drug store ...

What a beautiful, sad video, clear photography plus an almost poetic commentary. Fascinating Arthur Kill! Besides those bigger wrecks there are lots of lifeboats, discarded equally long ago, each with their own story. What ships may they have come from, and where did they all end? Thank you for this wonderful video!

Anneke u are so inspiring. It s relieving to see a hurt person who heals can become sane again, and heal others. Beautiful. Marshall Burtcher talks about how to heal from codependency in a non popular approach id say...he discerns between using self esteem and self worth. He teaches pple how to find their inteinsic self worth and sense of self. I just thought to mention that for me, i never knew what esteem meant. I still struggle with it. He explains why he doesnt use that word. Without a sense of self it s like we have holes and we seek external validation to fill them to find self and safety (usually from lack of being able to mimic caregiver coz of neglect). Intrinsic value and self identity (which is of course fragmented and complex), and connection to these is maybe what others call esteem. Anyway just found it interesting.

If you listen to ICP's music and you come away from it thinking "I should become a racist, I should become a homophobe" you missed the point and you obviously didn't listen very hard to the lyrics, cuz J and Shaggs aren't down with any of that... ICP don't want you as their fan anymore than Kurt from Nirvana would want homophobes and bigots as his fans....

Sick how she casually talks about robbing natives as long as 20% went back to the slave masters. For a so called expert she speaks in quite shallow terms. Im a New Zealand maori with an interest in Atlantis and the refugees who moved to south central north america, and i did not learn one new thing from this flake. I had a book once that showed what was happening during colonial era, in one day, a spanish priest had the right hands cut off 12000 natives to discourage theft. Funny how their sick barbaric practices are never mentioned, but this half intelligent person spent more time talkin about the conquistadores. I have zero faith in mainstream academia, they simply lie, lie and lie some more, to assert a narrative, that the natives needed civilising, whilst in this same period, the so called civilised english would throw their buckets of shit out their windows, bathing was frowned upon, children were randomly sold by Parents just for money, children in england filled many jobs. Our Maori leaders went to uk in mid 1800s to have our indigenous rights asserted after colonisers came to nz and lied lied lied, upon returning home to nz, our leaders said that the english were uncivilised barbarians who did not practice cleanliness, cared not for their children, and revered royalty who never stood and fought with their people. The only mistake our ancestors made in dealing with brit burocrasy was they trusted those in authority to speak the truth as dishonesty and lieing would never be considered by men of integrity and bravery. Forked tongue is an insult to snakes, one of the revered creatures in the pantheon of ancient advanced civilisations.

The hard work all these people put in to recycle the bottles is under looked and should be appreciated by everyone as a whole. It may seem like a mundane job but it brings money and help the environment. The earning may not be the best and this is where the government should step in and give incentives. Rewards in the form of money should be given to these people who help keep our earth that much cleaner. Love and regards everyone
