SIG Carry Optics Nationals. Best USPSA match in years!
Просмотров 4,7 тыс.6 месяцев назад
Mostly complete match video from my 9th place finish at the 2024 Carry optics nationals. The stage crew did an exceptional job on this match, it was one of the best USPSA matches in memory. In terms of my performance, I started slow on day one, literally. It is expected to win very few stages at a match with this much talent in attendance, but I was consistently about 1 second off pace from whe...

Entering day 2 with a decent lead, I decide to not take it easy. It’s common with a decent lead for competitors to take it easy by shooting safer strategies and not pushing for really any reason. I wanted to keep building the lead by executing with aggression on the easy stuff, but avoid risk through planning. Issues came up concerning my ability to stay visually sharp, which cost me some raw p...

Production Optics win Using a P320X5 Legion with a Grayguns competition: Hybrid shoe trigger kit, and a Romeo 2. I shot this whole match with the dot occluded. Day 1 performance was excellent in my estimation, I built a 60 point lead over Nils in 10 stages. Day 2 on we started on some faster paced stages and I had to feel out the gas and brakes a bit more carefully. I didn’t want to just take i...

People do this wrong all the time. It’s important to be able to see the color of the cable, but also the definition of the top blade in any lighting conditions. Sub flush cable and a sharpie are your friend in making that happen.

What do you mean by "keeping my firing hand tender?" Thanks.

Great Review Mason. Interesting to see your approach to stages at a match I shot. All the best for 2025!

incredible results all things considered, hats off mason.
🔥🔥🔥🔥
Great looking match! Awesome seeing you compete outside of the USPSA arena. Well done!
Mason, great job on the match performance. Are you using subs on the stage at the Crossroads stage (7:24)? It sound so quiet.
@@abigger04 I shot 77g 223 the whole match, it’s a very quiet setup
I never run suppressors because my shot timer cant detect my shots 😂 do you guys adjust the sensitivity or something?
@@BullseyeBallistics-kf1jw yeah they use the AMG timers that have pretty good sensitivity adjustment
I counted 4 stage wins! Atta Boy. That Mason slide is sexy

Looking good, Mason!
How did you like running the dot over an lpvo?
@@peytongoehring1934 I haven’t done real training in recent history with an LPVO. Anecdotally I can say there was little to no need for magnification at this match. Twice I clipped on my flip to side magnifier for a stage, but I never used it.
Good work!
If you use red threadlocker it isn’t coming off. There’s ways wits torch but better have experience doing it.
Do you sell these? And what protects the firing pin? Or does the glue seep into the primer hole?
Great, part 2 will be helpful
Excellent
What did he mean by hoping Sig will introduce a version for more practical shooting? This should work for limited optics right?
@@bluyetiinc7553 this gun is pretty much perfect for LO; at the time I made this video LO wasn’t really a thing.
@@masonlane2030 Thanks Mason. How is the grip? Is it better suited for people with large hands? Also, Was hoping to do some training with you. Are you still running any courses?
I noticed in dryfire this definitely makes transitions easier to pick a spot and the gun arrives more precisely, with less effort. My shoulders seem to roll a bit more forward than when my elbows are bent, looking forward to see the effect on LiveFire if I’m creating tension or just overthinking
@@JustinV911 nope, what you’re describing sounds exactly what I’ve noticed over the years. The more tension you hold in your neck and shoulders, the less precision you have in your index. Some people solve for it through repetition or by simply moving the gun slower, but it’s doubtlessly easier with a less effortful posture.
They are good binos, but the Kite are even better, for only $200 more than the Sig I got myself the Kite 18x50, both the stabilization and the optical quality seem better to my eyes, also they use usb c charging instead of AA batteries.
Are they drop safe!
@@swiftaudi I didn’t try it, but they come with a really nice sling
Typing from hospital. I’m going to try this. Pinched nerve in my spine won’t allow support hand to shoot much but I can reload with it. I’m gonna suck so bad! Lol😂. I needed a pick me up

This was my first area match. I loved it. Your breakdown is great to watch. Just shows how much learning I have to do. Thank you.
Really enjoyed the commentary here. You talking about the high level decisions that shooters have to make goes far in helping mere mortals better understand the sport as such.
👍👍
Nice breakdown. I appreciate you giving your thoughts on stage plans, hit factors, etc. I shot Area 7 and comparing your runs to mine on video with your commentary is incredibly helpful, thanks!
Nice break down as always. Sporty footwork.
thanks for sharing this mason.

What about the match makes you say it was the best in years? The stages? The ROs? The Portapotty placement?
@@CaneShooter88 stage quality is the number one most important thing to me
@@masonlane2030 I'm glad this was such a success! Are you planning on doing any breakdowns/talkthroughs of some of your stages? I like watching how you think through your performance.
@@CaneShooter88 possible. When I do them I like to do the entire match, which is quite an undertaking for a match with this much footage. Is there stages or sections in particular you’d like to see?
@masonlane2030 that'd be like an hour or more of content but honestly I'm here for it lol I totally get that it's a lot. No pressure. I haven't watched footage closely enough to say certain stages. Really, whatever you find most interesting. Here are some thoughts: 1. The stages you performed best on 2. The stages you scored highest on 3. The places you took an alternative mindset, why, and how it worked out 4. The stages that demonstrate your performance on the issues you were training before the match, and your satisfaction with that performance. Just some thoughts.

Did you shoot any targets at this match predictively?
@@YVK_ yes many. I don’t necessarily think about it in those terms when I’m planning stages, but categorically yes
Stay strong-- its a long game, 25 is coming.
Solid run bro. It was a tough match and you did well. Keep pushing.
Jesus Christ, dude
Ok, genuinely asking. I don’t have any experience at these things but I have trained with people down range. Just wonder why spectators are down towards the targets in the beginning of the video?
@@cassidybronson6891 In practical shooting it is commonplace to abide by the “180 degree rule.” Meaning there’s an imaginary line in the sand that’s parallel to the backstop, basically declaring it an unsafe action to point your gun more than 90* left or right relative to downrange. It is also somewhat common for officials to hang out near the limit of that line to be able to make a “stop” call if someone does point the gun uprange. Long story short sometimes there’s targets on the side berms and officials encroach a little bit. When you consider the stakes, training, and experience of most folks at matches, you realize people have a psychosomatic aversion to do unsafe stuff. It’s akin to driving down a two lane road past oncoming traffic.
@@masonlane2030 thanks for the information, much appreciated.
