Hey, I am getting shooshed by my wife and it's just sailing and music... She learned to sail in those waters :)
Best listen to her in my experience
MERCI UN AMOUREUX des BEAUX BATEAU😉😉😊
is that your new nick name now .....blister, you only show when the works been done
brilliant stuff
Lovely autumn sail. It was Interesting about the quarry at Berry head. I didn’t know about that. And I’ve never ventured that side of the East Blackstone so that was intriguing too!
Hope you’re having a good winter Henry.
Forgetting to open the air filter, everyone does it some have even done it more than once 😂.
thanks ... do you use Messenger or What's App?
well done ... I don't think my reversing would be that good. Can I DM you privately to ask about the berthing arrangements at Galmpton?
👍Please do so
Popped in to say what a lovely job you've done on the videography and narration. Thoroughly enjoyable and immersive.. thank you
Thank you
Hello. been following your channel a while now. I am interested in acquiring a Shrimper 19 like yours. Is your trailer width wider than the beam of the boat ?I only have a 90 inch gap next to the house for storage.
Thanks for the comment. My trailer is almost exactly the same width as the beam of the boat, narrower if I take the mudguards off.
Was the wind direction westerly/south-westerly and the tide going eastwards (i.e., so you were punching tide a little to avoid wind against tide)? Is that what you meant in your introduction. Great video by the way.
i will tri bicycle red and green led light on the shrouds or in the side windows. 20$ a pair, powerfull, usb rechargeable and no wiring. Occasional use only.
As the owner of a Fisher 25, downsized from a 38 ft cruiser, I recognise many of the compromises and realities …. 😂
Hi, i am thinking of buying a 19 shrimper. They look like a great little boat. My only reservation is being able to sail offshore a bit. Does the boat have the capacity to sail to france (for example). How far from the coastline do you go when doing a coastal passage? :-)
Well, I suppose it depends on.. it’s quite a capable boat and being offshore is not a huge issue in itself. Many Shrimpers have crossed the channel and there are plenty of adventurous owners prepared to make relatively large trips. The limiting factors are sea state and your own appetite for adventure. I have only really been about 5 miles offshore so far but who knows.. a trip to Alderney might be in my future plans.
@@Morningvicar Thanks for your response. Most helpful. I am assuming that those that travel offshore have all the safety kit (AIS, liferaft etc). 🙂
Lovely video. You must have considered the cabin version of the Hawk 20 at some point and decided against. I was wondering why as it is known to be a very stable family dayboat with dinghy characteristics. From what you said this would have suited perfectly. I did own and sail one in Ullswater (Lake District), changing from a Character Boats Coastal 17 - Gaff rig, not dissimilar to the Shrimper. Mind you, when out on the Hawk we never did attract any Japanese tourists asking for a sail on the "Lomantic Boat"
Quite like the Hawk, but the Shrimper came up at the right price and time
great video, enjoyable watch !
Thanks for watching
Perfect video lovely calm voice lovely boat I berthed beside one in Rothsea. On Clyde. And got a look around by owner. Love boats with bowsprit
Thanks for watching
What a fine boat!
Thank you.
Thanks Paul, lovely video to ward of the winter blues :)
Glad you enjoyed it
Another enjoyable interesting video. Thanks Paul
Very welcome
Watching this sat by the fire, what a wonderful video - missing my summer sailing. Did that trip twice this year - but both times waited for it to be downwind (both ways). Maybe your video will give me the confidence to try it upwind next time! If you'll allow a Cape Cutter to join a Shrimper fleet (sacrilege), I'd love to join a grumpy-old-gaffer outing next year. Here's to a great 2025 - HNY to you.
Glad you enjoyed it! Cape Cutters are more than welcome; see you in summer.
Very nice video. The fine weather reminded me of Paul da Roza's Australian inshore adventures with other like-minded singlehanders - allegedly it's dinghy sailing, but many of their boats have ballast and cabins and some are simply small yachts. Worth a look - his channel is called 'Sailing Kate Louise'. The principle of singlehanded cruising in company is really smart, to increase confidence among skippers of limited experience, plus a wonderful way to share the challenges and achievements of sailing, without having to share a tiny cabin! I've had a foot in both dinghy cruising and yacht-owning in recent years, and despite the undeniable folly of paying Solent marina fees, I think I must have another cabin boat. The outdoors is only nice when it's nice, and far more often it's not. 😄
Sailing Kate Louise is one of my favourites. Thanks for watching
Thanks Paul, really enjoyed that. Great seeing the two Shrimpers together. Looking forward to your Winter trip videos. Did the rudder sort itself out?
Hi Richard Actually, we lifted the boat last week so there won’t be any winter videos for a while. Storm Darragh came through with 96 mph winds at Berry Head!! and although we largely escaped, it did remove the masthead antenna and scattered the fenders a bit so we need to do a bit of maintenance. Rudder plate was absolutely stuck and caked with mud, it’s loose again now( and very shiny).
Thanks for another enjoyable trip. I love seeing Dartmouth and Brixham, the hometowns of my parents. Now I often find myself playing the grumpy old git and solo sailing in company at the other end of the world. Looking forward to your next offering.
Glad you enjoyed it
Another inspiring video, watching them, fills me with confidence to take the same passage. Maybe, Dart Star will tag along one day in the summer!..keep the videos coming!🙏🏼⛵️🌅
I’m hoping we can have a sail in company soon but if you need a crew, give me a call.
Thank you for this video. You told us about the differents between the shrimper MK I and MK II. Are the sail aeras the same ?
Very much the same.
"......and back" ??? :) Well I enjoyed the sail with you, great company, well done.
Yes! Thank you!
What about the DCA, Dinghy Cruising Association, active all over the country and organises many day and overnight trips for like minded sailors, £30 per year and you receive 4 fabulous magazines of really interesting articles supplied by members
An excellent organisation
Love your videos, we sailed down to Dartmouth in our Crabber 22 from Portsmouth this year and dropped a hook just outside Galmpton for our second night on the Dart, just by the houses on North side of river, beautiful part of the world, keep doing your thing, Happy New Year
give me a shout next time you're here
Although they did just remove the link from their facebook page as it's "off topic" so perhaps not so relevant after all.:)
Lovely video. I’m also in the water with the same idea. Numbers of days sailed since October to date 0! Good to see that your decision is paying off.
Thanks for watching I have also not sailed since October. 😔 After being battered by the recent storms we lifted out today.
Thanks for this. I had a question put to me about a Shrimper and this gave me all the data I needed. Looks a grand little boat.
Thanks for watching
I remember many such beautiful days on the Dart with my late wife. This little film was a delightful bittersweet treat. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it
Hi. Thanks for the video. Our Shrimper has a no longer functioning NASA depth sounder, isn’t helpful in the Dart! Have been recommended a Garmin plotter, as well as sorting out the basic electronics. What sort of cost was your Garmin and how easy is it to fit a transducer? We have an inboard. Thanks
Hi. The plotter/sounder was around £500. My fancy transducer was another £150 but if you could fit an in-hull one quite easily, it just needs bonding to the inside
@ Many thanks. Something to look into for the Spring. We definitely needed to get a decent sounder and a plotter as well sounds useful.
If you want to know my solution please go to swallowyachtsassociation and see details under boat instruments. I have tried to answer the request but it seems to stop me,
Really enjoyed the video, well done. So great to be back at Brixham with the gaffers. Glad to see you have the Huntingford Helm Impeder. I do notice from the tiller position that at times Morning Vicar has distinct weather helm, maybe sail balance a little out? On our own gaffer I have found a fraction less jib will give more speed. Great sailing by all the crew in tricky weather.
Glad you enjoyed it
So which Garmin did you get? Is that a 723?
Quick heads up with Black Friday coming. The Google Pixel tablet does NOT have GPS built in. My wife has one and it's a very nice, quality piece of kit but no GPS. Even my cheap Samsung A8 has it.
Which fabric is your sails? Raw cotton?
Normal 8oz Dacron.
@@Morningvicar Tks. On video the texture did not seems to be from synthetic ones. Nice color tone. Nice choice. I liked it pretty much.
Consider a matte screen protector film, makes screen non-reflective. Cheap and easy, see in daylight. Does attract that cursed Sea Monster, though…. Any hacks prevent corrosion of charging cables? Always my connection thingy turns green/corrodes. Please, Thanks, Arrrr matey
II’m sure solid gold ones would do the trick 😊
Excellent video, both photography and editing. And your thoughts on the ipad versus a chartplotter very well presented. I tried a tablet but the lack of brightness in the summer made it difficult... Well done .. Best Wishes ... Dave
Awesome, thank you!
or use Orca core and display. best of both worlds
I use handheld stuff, vhf and plotter, can take it on various boats and charters. Just need to keep spare batteries and/or a charger handy. Though small screen size is becoming an issue with older eyes.
Do you find the fact that the screen is vertical makes it awkward to follow the chart?
Do you mean on the Phone?
@ on the chart plotter. I use a tablet and usually it is at around 45 degrees
ohi see....no, not at all. The screen is easy to read and the chart is very obvious. Although the resolution is a little lower, the brightness (and therefore contrast) is a lot higher.
Can i ask a couple of questions? Do you use just the internal tank on outboard rather than large external one? Also who is doing the camera work whilst your at the helm? 😊
What a nice footage and introduction to a fab, small boat. Got myself an old english 23 ft.-vessel (Halcyon 23) and love these shrimpers...but they are too expensive here in Germany or Netherlands. Wish you lots of fun and: always fair winds, Best regards, Linus
Glad you enjoyed it
Great video, nice to see you share your journey and the thought process. One more downside of the chart plotter for me is that it is a security risk if you can't remove it (or is that the scouser in me thinking that!!). I'm on the same journey as you so currently persevering with the tablet and phone etc but it does feel a little bit like all paths lead to the chart plotter at times!!! It would be lovely having all the boat data and maps on one screen. I would say I have a pretty cheap Android tablet but the battery lasts all day long playing video, let alone usong it for mapping. It has a 20,000mah battery and is IP67 but I still have the wet screen issue and also the sun, but often wondered if a decent screen protector would help.
I did think of the security issue, but nobody has nicked it yet.. it’s not like I’ve bought an expensive piece of kit then told everyone on the internet where it is….. oh wait …
@@Morningvicar Haha. You also don't have the boat on a mooring up here near Liverpool so probably fine!!! I htink that "city" mentality I still have means I still think you need to weld everything down!!! I think with my boat living on a trailer a lot of the time its more of a risk than being in a marina to be honest!
We used an iPad Pro (cellular) with Navionics on our boat for almost 5 years, but we also had an aging Raymarine plotter. The Raymarine had AIS and Radar connected too. The iPad had a larger screen, and much easier to use. The biggest issue with the iPad was it switching off when it got hot. At the start of this season we upgraded the chart plotter and radar to a bigger 12” model and the iPad is relegated to the chart table. The new chart plotter is amazing but I do miss the Navionics app though.
Thanks, i'm still getting used to having a fixed plotter and , like you, my IPad is down below. Garmin make you use their "ActiveCaptain" App to interface with the plotter, which, apart from the cringy name, is very similar to the Navionics Boating app.
