Train to Summit

Ever dreamt of climbing a mountain?
Back when I was a kid, in my small hometown in Romania, all of my friends were obsessed with football. Since I never identified with the game, I felt left out and thought “I’ll never find an activity I love”.
Fast forward to my early 20s, after I finished reading Bear Grylls’s ‘Mud Sweat and Tears’ -something clicked. I was a Mountaineer. I might not have climbed any mountains yet or knew anything about what it takes, but somehow every cell in my body believed it.
I made this channel to share my experiences and hopefully someday inspire fellow unaware Mountaineers out there to reach new heights of their own.
My name’s Cris, welcome to Train to Summit.

We Climbed one of Bolivia's Highest Mountains Unguided - Huayna Potosi
I didn't expect this climb to be so dangerous, especially considering it's widely sold by tour companies in La Paz to people who aren't mountaineers.
Referred to by many as 'the easiest 6000m peak in the world', Huayana Potosi is anything but.
We spend a week around La Paz, Bolivia, hiking and acclimatising, to get ourselves ready for Huayana Potosi's huge attitude.
We sleep at 2 refuges along the way to the summit, Refugio Casa Blanca at 4,800m and Las Rochas at 5,150m.
The summit push was long, cold and pretty brutal, having to navigate a huge glacier for most of the way and steep rocky terrain towards the summit.
Guides were hauling their clients up by the ropes, many of which eventually tu...

No guides, no one around, just brutal altitude and the determination to reach the top. Hands down one of the best day-hikes from La Paz. In looking for an acclimatisation hike for Huyana Potosi, we discovered Austria Peak, or as the locals call it, Pico Austria. It took us approximately 2 hrs in a taxi from La Paz to the start point, La Rinconada. All the articles we read said this hike was spe...
The 2 Best Via Ferratas to link in 1 day - Vael & Masare

Two awesome Ferratas, one day. As part of a RUclips series I'm doing where I'm rating the best Via Ferratas in the Italian Dolomites, in September I went to climb Via Ferrata Roda di Vael and Masare. I started from the village of Carezza and took the cable car to Refugio Paolina to get to the start of the trail. From the get-go, the views of the Brenta Dolomites leave you speeches. The first Vi...
Soloing the Highest Mountain in the Dolomites - Marmolada

There’s one Via Ferrata that stands above the rest and in this case, it’s literal. As part of a RUclips series I'm doing 'Rating the best Via Ferratas in the Italian Dolomites', in September I set out to climb Marmolada's highest summit, Punta Penia. I was sceptical of going alone at first, since every classical route to Marmolada's summit seems to go over a glacier, however, once I studied the...

I'm on a quest to find the best Ferrata in the Dolomites, could this be it? After climbing 3 of the best Ferratas in the Cortina area I was looking forward to giving Delle Trincee a shot. Literary translating to 'Of the Trenches', this Via Ferrata feels like a museum as much as an adventure. Its ridge has stunning views of Marmolada and the Sella group, and the route takes you through ruins and...

Rated as one of the best Via Ferratas in the Dolomites - let's see if it lives up to the hype. Via Ferrata Brigata Tridentina isn't too difficult, which is probably one of the reasons for its popularity. That and the awesome suspension bridge of course... The climb is straightforward but exposed, culminating in a beautiful plateau with dramatic views of the Italian Dolomites. At the top of the ...
The Hardest Via Ferrata I Ever did in the Dolomites - Punta Anna

Don't attempt this Ferrata without good climbing experience... A few months ago I decided to make a RUclips series rating the best via Ferratas in the Italian Dolomites. Via Ferrata Punta Anna (aka Ferrata Giuseppe Olivieri and Gianni Aglio) going to the summit of Tofana Di Mezzo was BY FAR the hardest on this list. It is the most challenging Via Ferrata I have ever done in the Italian Dolomite...
Is this the Best Via Ferrata in the Italian Dolomites?

If you're only ever going to do one Ferrata in the Dolomites, make it this one. After hearing about it for years, in August I went to climb Ferrata Ivano Dibona. I feel like this tour has everything you'd ever want from a Dolomiti Via Ferrata. It starts by following an abandoned cable car, crosses over a 30m famous bridge (the one from the Cliffhanger movie), and takes you back in time when cli...
My Next Stage of Project: 7 Summits Sea to Sea
Просмотров 1,6 тыс.3 месяца назад
A couple of years ago I decided to follow my crazy dream... to climb the highest mountain on each continent (also known as the 7 Summits challenge) from sea level and back to sea level - every single meter up and down, on foot. At the start of 2024, I put my money where my mouth was and went on a two-month expedition to climb the highest mountain in South America and Africa. This ended up being...
How to Climb Mountains on a Budget

Climbing mountains doesn't have to be expensive. During my first 5 years of mountaineering, I was broke, but that didn't stop me from climbing. As a beginner mountaineer, I learnt that you CAN climb mountains on a budget. Along the way, both Viv and I discovered ways how to keep our budget down. From when to book, to where to go, and the equipment we chose to buy, it's all in this video. In thi...
Switzerland's ACTUAL Best Beginner 4000m Mountain
Просмотров 6 тыс.3 месяца назад
In my personal opinion, Breithorn and Allalinhorn are NOT the best beginner 4k peaks in the Alps Mountaineering is a challenging activity, and the beauty lies in that challenge. If you're an aspiring Alpinist, I don't think your first high-altitude endeavour should be on a peak that's, well... catered for the masses. The Saas Fee lift goes all the way to the Mittel Allalin station, at 3457m. An...

After years of failing to climb this peak, extreme winds hit during our attempt in July, forcing us yet again to retreat. Domes de Miage is a great beginner mountain if you have glacier crossing experience, because of this, years back we planned for it to be Viv's first Alpine peak, but it never came to be... I attempted it with Viv at the end of June, but after wind gusts of over 80km/HR, we r...
I Climbed Kilimanjaro from the Sea (and back)

I thought Kilimanjaro was going to be easy. It wasn't... After climbing Aconcagua from sea to sea, Mount Kilimanjaro was the second peak of my project to climb the 7 Summits from sea level and back. We chose to climb the mountain via it's hardest route, the Umbwe route and were assisted by guides and porters from Monkey Adventures. The crux of the route was said to be the Barranco wall, but in ...
I walked 800km across Tanzania to climb Kilimanjaro

Aren't you afraid of hiking alone through rural Tanzania? This is the question I got over and over again a month before departing. My goal was to summit Kilimanjaro from sea to sea. Hiking from the Indian Ocean to climb Mount Kilimanjaro was probably one of the most challenging things I've ever done. The heat, blisters and long distances wore me down even from before I got to the town of Moshi....

Striding Edge - Actually difficult or just hype?
For my first via ferrata, my guide asked me over the phone if I wanted something easy or harder. I'd been climbing indoors in a gym for a year, so obviously I wanted something harder. I was thinking "medium" difficulty. He took me here. So terrifying and pumpy - by the end I was using my elbows to grab onto the handholds more than my hands. The long nepal bridge made my legs shake so bad that the guide was yelling at me to stop. On the positive side after this the Murren via ferrata felt easy even though it had hundreds of meters of vertical drop.
May this love find me!
Do you ever have a problem with your mountain boots? My la sportiva extreme nepal numb my feet really badly
Great via ferrata thanks for showing. Here's some point for you to consider, from someone who has done a fair few. To just start your week on a very long fairly intense one of which the first 1/3 doesnt seem to have great foot holds tiring you out quicker, plus one with lot's of exposure (which you said isn't your strongest point) doesn't seem such a good idea, a shorter easier one after a year nothing is what I have learned works better, then later in the week go for the harder ones. How were your hands after a long day of cable hoiking, blistered nicely? Do wear gloves and enjoy those fantastic Dolomite ferratas even more
So f***ing sick!!! Great effort you two!!! Keep the sick content and adventures coming.
Well done guys, amazing stuff!
Awesome! When's Puncak Jaya again?
It's nice to see your channel grow! Looking forward to more videos
Wow, those mountains! And gnarly crevasse in dark...Outstanding work, Viv and Cris!
In the old days the huts did not exist
you need several days to get your body into fitness and acclimatisation, when doing these peaks
Always waiting for new videos to follow your incredible mountains adventures!!
Great film guys! This peak is one of my go to recommendations to people I meet travelling to Bolivia - by no means an easy peak, but with the right determination and guides something to strive for. Obviously greater difficulties doing it unguided, so kudos. Brings back memories during my novice climbing/filming days and with Huayna being my first 6K peak. Interesting to see the top section exposed with rock, certainly changed over the years, but could just be the season you climbed. How was flying the drone at 6K?
@@ScalingSummits It's an epic first 6k peak! It was actually ok flying the drone, any colder though and it probably wouldn't of happened!
Chris and Viv. You are my heroes... And now Chris, I refuse to call you Chris anymore. From now on, you're MAD. Love you guys. I so wish I can meet you before I'm to old. Love from 🇧🇻

Will they stop me if I go there now? What bus can I take to get there?
Amazing vid, as usually on your channel 😊 Just fyi. I am shocked, because I did same route in 2016 (just descending via 2nd glacier)...it was august 2016 and there was more snow/ice during ascend then you had...for me very sad to see how glaciers disappear, not only in Dolomites. However, your video is great, as usually, keep it up 😊👍
@@michalivanega2117 I saw similar videos with more ice then when I was there as well ...really sad. Thank you for watching!
Two years ago, when I hiked around Zermatt and saw the Matterhorn for the first time, I knew I wanted to stand on its summit one day. But honestly, I’ve always doubted myself; whether I’m physically and mentally capable of achieving it. I don’t have much experience in the mountains, and I only know the basics of rock climbing, so it’s been hard to imagine it happening. Seeing you chase your dreams, starting from a similar place to where I’m at now, has been so inspiring, and it reminded me not to give up on this goal. It is safe to say that I’m now more determined than ever to reach the top of the Matterhorn. And just like I hope to reach my goal, I wish you all the best in succeeding on your journey!
@@lvh_0574 Don't give up on that goal, you can get there 💪🏻 Thanks you for the lovely comment 🙏🏻
Great video!
Going to try this in June…no experience at this altitude so just going to be as fit as I can and as many walks as possible! Great job you two!!!!

Haven't heard much hype about Striding Edge or that it's "infamous". It has a reputation for being easy, not even grade 1 as a summer scramble. More serious in winter conditions of course.
