Interesting Good job
I got it once on a roland cube . Slight tremolo on slow and a not so wide chorus . I swear it was the same . Played it with the record for a couple of hours
Great job sir, I think you’re on yo something. I also think you’ve nailed it. 🎸👏👏
Hi, Claude. I serendipitously came upon this video you'd authored. In it, you describe a guitar nuance which is very difficult to hear unless you use software to isolate the guitar part. I just want to point out that during the choruses, the chords the guitar plays changes from Fmaj7 to G during the verses, to Fmaj7 to Fmaj7/G (bass), as you'd illustrated. However, the bass guitar line during the choruses, however does not maintain an ostinato F but plays F to G as during the verses. This reinforces the G (bass) the guitar is playing during the choruses (after the Fmaj7) leading one to think they're hearing the same Fmaj7 to G chord progression during the verses. You are correct in that the chorus chords are Fmaj7 to Fmaj7/G. Whether Lindsey placed a capo at the 1st fret playing a guitar tuned to an open Emaj7, or he played (without a capo) an Fmaj7 (1st pos.) to Fmaj7/G makes very little sonic difference.
They have been around for more than 50 years now, proof enough why they are the biggest rock and roll band !!
Keith has a perfect groove, quantizing playing to a click is the death of having a pocket... The best drummers that do have to play to a click for whatever reason always have spots where they're in front of the click and behind it From Jeff Porcaro, Jim Gordon, Kenny Arnoff, Gadd, keltner... All of em... That's soul and flesh of music.
I'm completely illiterate when it comes to making music, so I have absolutely no talent for playing any kind of instrument. But I love listening to good music and have learnt a lot here! Thank you so much!
Not discrediting lindsay and stevie but fleetwood mac was a real team effort i think the mcvies and fleetwood had a lot more creative input
Link to Stevie Nicks playing Dreams on the piano?
Volume pedal swell, playing slide electric guitar without a pick. What’s the big mystery?
Hot take, but the dreamy sound comes from the unique writing itself. Tone is so overrated.
did you use shimmer reverb for the backing chords?
Yeah, but....... Tusk?
I always thought he used a volume pedal...
Peter Frampton used them AND Pat Vega from the band Redbone also used the Leslie for hit song from 1970 "Maggie".Same sound one can get using a footspeed controlled chorus or phaser
I got as far as "today I conducted a bunch of experiments...". lol... My brother in Christ, you either feel it, or you don't.
Volume swells...where's the mystery in volume swells ffs,?
I was always curious about the sound on rose Royse love don't live here anymore. The track. How that worked. What I learned from putting new different wierd original sounds on my songs often nobody wants to hear them. I think Neil young had a little trouble with that too. People have acquired tastes. They can't flip on a dime. Music and appealing to the fans has got to be the most hard to read or understand business. I remember Gabe Kaplan once on the tonight show said you ever notice you'll see a show on TV with a ratings bonanza then you'll see 50 shows a week like it. The monkees rode the wave of the beatles success. And beat them. For 1 year. Monkey on the beatles back. But what Gabe or me either at the time the populace dictates and slows down your creative skills. You can be 10 times Elton john and the populace might not get it.
I don't know crap about instrumentation. But I'm curious if a recording studio synthe sizer or some hi tech device can imitate that sound.
Thank you!!
Sounds like a Strat, plugged directly into the board. That way, it's easier to split and add effects in post
I strongly suspect Mark Knopfler could duplicate the sound. I'm sure it would be easier for him than many or most given how much he's finger-picked over the years.
So, the premise of the video is why other guitarists can't play what Lindsey Buckingham can play...that is a real stumper....
This reminds me of what the guitarist for billy idols white wedding said, he would only play what wasnt in the mix, i think this is to keep the eound clean and reduce the engineering needed to mix the song, also you notice the guitar is augmenting the bass part, i think it was all done to keep things solid so the listener is focused on stevies words
Lindsey doesnt use a pick
thanks for the concise lesson!!!
One of the best videos on researching properly a guitar part, specially, one as iconic as Dreams. Merci, Claude!
Great job 🙂
Sorry I can only focus on the drunken Native American man riding a skateboard in my mind
I’m not even a guitarist and I thought this was amazing.
I read that Queen's guitarist put a different pickup under each string then fed each pickup to a separate guitar amps..
Awesome video. Would love a video on Knopfler.
Excellent video
great video! your comment about odd chord shapes in the guitar reminded of mk.gee, he plays some really cool rhythm guitar! you should check him out!
incredible video. clearly a lot of time and research has been put in to making this
You are....!
You ate unique...Lindsey Buckingham is unique....play your style...DON'T think about being him...he is he...you are you...Thank God for your uniqueness....create something that L. Buckingham would be impressed with your style .....
Lindsay never used a pick
This is so fascinating
Gonna play that G bass with the F at my gig tonight. Wonder if I’ll get some looks. 🫡😂
Thought it was Mick T who played the riff.
Nice Work...This is a great analysis...I think you are onto something...
1:11 brief side note: Ken Caillat’s daughter is also a famous musician. Her name is Colbie Caillat.
thank you for your video.
The way your video jumps and is edited is completely annoying and unhuman. Stop it.
for such a simple chord structure, this song hits on so many levels. orchestration, dynamics, and yeah, the equipment used to generate such a kewl sound. i played this song in a band a couple of years ago, and the other guitarist had this song down when they added me. i was impressed at how he got the job done with a few stomp boxes and a small marshall. he never really explained it the way you did, though! very good explanation, claude. keep adding stuff and i'm sure many others will keep watching...i know i'm hooked! again, very well articulated and presented!
Very cool
NO
What Stevie plays on the piano, as a solo artist, is not going to be the same thing the band played in the studio, so you really can't go by that. You can only go by what is on the recorded version and, of course, if you have the stem tracks you should be able to suss it out easily enough by ear.
Interesting on the acoustic stuff
