5 Tips For Teaching Interviews
Просмотров 5973 года назад
One year ago to the day, I received a call telling me I got my dream teaching position! In this video, I'll be sharing 5 tips that helped during my interviews, and hopefully will help you!
I would love a video about some tips and tricks. I’m currently studying biology. I’d love to teach. Do you think a minor in education is enough to teach?
Beer isn't needed for snail/slug traps, just mix yeast with water. Products I had great success with are Sluggo and Sluggo Plus. Sluggo uses Iron Phosphate to get snails and slugs. What doesn't get eaten becomes fertilizer. Sluggo Plus uses a bacteria to kill earwigs, cutworms, sowbugs and pillbugs/rolly pollies. All I can recommend for deer is a fence at least 7 ft tall.
@@AProAmature thank you for the recommendations! I’ll try these out!
Jesus loves you! In 2021 my cat cupcake passed away she was a beautiful tuxedo cat and I asked am I going to be with my cat in the afterlife? So, I looked online at near-death experiences and I've watched almost 1,000 total. Jesus is the only one who can forgive our sins so we can enter the Gates of Heaven. We need to repent of sin and turn back to the Almighty: Jesus. Say this prayer: Jesus forgive my sins. I believe you paid the price for all of my sins on the cross and Rose on the third day into heaven. Change my desires and my lifestyle so that they align with how you lived your life. Send me dreams Visions Messengers encounters miracles signs and wonders. I make you my Lord and Savior today and want to have a personal relationship with you. Amen!
Nice garden all looking great ❤
Beautiful....and so is your garden ❤
You have a lovely garden and we all learn as we grow, I'm a 65 year old Australian and because we moved out to the coast I'm having to garden very differently to what I was used to. 😉😊🙃
Thank you for your comment! What part of Australia are you from? My sister, husband and I visited Brisbane last year and love the area!
It is my first time on your channel and I have just subscribed. Your garden arrangement is beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing. Keep up the good work. All the best on this journey😊
@@myhomeandgardenchanneldwel7777 thank you so much! I really appreciate the comment!
I'm starting a high school science program in September. Thanks for the content.
I think I’m actually gonna be a high school earth science teacher
Could anyone let me know how y’all transport your fish during holiday breaks or over the summer? 😅 I’m highly interested in having fish in my science classroom one day but I dread having to move them
Very great video. Love your passion and enthusiasm. I am a principal at Kosrae High School and yea I can tell that I have the least number of teachers comparing to previous years. Wish I can have some teachers like you in my school; maybe come and spend a vacation here in Kosrae teaching at Kosrae High School. I hope someone can read this and at least to think about it. I am recruiting for teachers now; Science, Math, Language Arts, Social Studies, Mechanic, Carpentry, Agriculture, Food & Nutrition, Sewing, Child Development.
Inspiring video, I'm going to college to be a highschool bio teacher 👍
Hit teacher
Hi awesome video. Thank you for showing us around. I am working on my degree in Earth Science. Do you get to teach astronomy too or do you focus mainly on earth science related stuff? Thank you again!
Next make some comedy video miss teacher desperate to pee
I commented earlier this year on your “pathways” video. I was interested in teaching Earth science, but was concerned that no positions would open in my area. Turns out, there were two secondary ES positions open in my county & the first interview was apparently a success! I have an interview with superintendent soon 🙌🏼 If things work out, I’ll have my very own Earth science class this fall! Stoked to watch more of your videos. Thank you (and so many others) for praying into this 🤠
Oh my goodness, congratulations!! That's so exciting to hear! Best of luck to you! I'll try to put out more content soon; I might switch to blogs, not sure. This year's been hectic and I've had no time to film or edit, but I'll try to film something soon! I think it's been over a year since I posted, yikes!
No worries! This content has been very helpful 🙏🏼 I’d be interested in keep up with your blogs should you go that route or instagram if you have it 🤠
Are you vegan 🤎?
I wanna be a science teacher!!! Thank youuu🥺🥺🥺
I just enrolled into a Career Switcher program in VA & I’m stoked! They require Praxis scores as part of the application process, so before classes start, but I passed the earth & space Praxis despite having graduated awhile ago 🙌🏼 The crux in my path is that I don’t live near the coast or a city, so there aren’t any jobs currently 😬
Congrats on passing!! Most jobs start posting in March or April so you’ll hopefully find something soon! I’ll be praying about it for you!
Cool insight! Secondary earth science educator is a dream job!
Can I invite you to Islam, try to get in touch with uthman bin farouq on One message foundation channel, watch his debates or request an open minded discussion :)
nice teacher vlog.👍🏻
I’m wanting to become a biology teacher, so it’s nice to have videos like these.
One month into my first year teaching and I needed to hear this 😢
You got this! It’s definitely tough at first, but it does get better!
Your classroom set up is so rad and welcoming, I hope your students enjoy the effort you put into the learning environment for them and yourself.
Thank you so much! I appreciate it!
New to your channel, first off Hello! I wanted to thank you for documenting your experiences as a high school science teacher. I'm currently a junior in college getting my B.S. in Biology with a concentration in ecology and evolution. I'm very excited to get my teaching certification once I graduate and finally begin my journey as a biology teacher. Thank you for your love of science my friend and keep up the great work!
I have a question (or video suggestion). I’ve been thinking of transitioning from my current job to a high school biology teacher, but I’ve seen a lot of burnt out teachers lately. What things have you seen/felt cause teacher burn out and how do you combat those? Thanks! Love your videos!
Thank you! I appreciate it! My biggest burn out factor is student behavior, especially since I’m still learning how to manage them. But I help myself by talking to veteran teachers, listening to the advice of my admin when they review my teaching, and staying informed about new practices. I also get burned out if I’m not taking care of myself. I try to have a routine which includes eating healthy, exercise, having something to look forward to when I get home (it’s important to know you have a life outside of work) and not working past my contract hours! I might make a separate video if I can think of more. Thanks for the suggestion and good luck in your transition!
Did you ever transition to a teaching job? I'm about to transition to one as well and I have the same concerns. I'd like to know how things worked out for you??
No, I did some volunteer work teaching kids and decided that it’s not quite what I’m looking for. Best of luck to you though!
@@cherrypie1998g well the Lord is having me to get back in the profession so I know He will make a way and it will be for His glory. His favor will he on me since it's his will.

did you have any issues with the kids messing with the fish tank? how'd they like it?
I didn’t, but this was also during hybrid when I had only a few kids in the building. I didn’t do it my second year because the fish tank was too large and was requiring me to do too much work. I’m sure the students would have loved to help, but it still was a process! Overall, they didn’t mess with it. They thought it was the coolest thing and loved to feed the fish! I had students in other teacher’s classroom and said I had the coolest room because of the fish tank which was so nice to hear after the amount it had cost! Definitely give it a go, but my recommendation is to start on the smaller side and If you enjoy the tank, work your way to a larger one!
One more thought: while the salt water fish were really cool, I actually had more fun with the Molly fish (you can convert these freshwater fish to saltwater) because they were more active and less likely to hide. They also spawned more easily which was cool from a biology perspective. And they are way cheaper!
This is my first year teaching geoscience HS, thank you so much for giving me a little preview!
I actually have both a minor in geology and in natural resources so I'm actually planning on teaching high school biology. I start WGU in April. I love tropical fish tanks and have a 90 gallon I can't wait to put in a classroom somewhere!
omg i know u said this a while ago but I’m finishing my Bio Ed degree and starting WGU in august and I’m so excited
I love your content! I'm a graduating biology student and planning to take teaching units for me to have an opportunity to teach in high school. Keep the uploads going. <3
Thank you! I really needed to hear that! I should be putting out more videos towards the start of school in August 😊

It's a good tip to practice interviewing before your desired school. I applied not thinking they would even reach out to me then it all rolled out so fast and my dream school is not going 5o happen
Should I change my major to Earth Science Education? Ok so to start off I began college majoring in marine biology, then I added another major of wildlife ecology and conservation. My goal was to work in a zoo or park. However, it is after my sophomore year (about to start junior year after summer) and I’m really struggling with courses. (Course load, hardness. Etc.) I have taken off the marine biology major so now I just have the wildlife ecology and conservation major which is still pretty much the same course load. My parents pulled me aside to let me know that it is okay to change my major if I am unhappy. So I have been giving it some thought. I am interested in science but I struggle with some of the material. Of the classes I’ve taken these have been the hardest for me (O-Chem, botany, Zoology). I would have to take classes that are harder in my opinion including microbio, genetics, physics, etc. Since I am struggling with the more general courses such as botany I’m not sure continuing this path would be wise for my GPA and mental health. With my interests I know I want to do something with science. And education does peak my interest a bit. If I were to do early childhood Ed or elementary Ed it would require me to completely start over in classes the way my school’s program is set up. That would be a lot of time and money. So I figured the next best thing would be to combine science and education and I landed on an Earth Science education degree. It would seem like there is some demand in the field for this degree which is good. (Correct me if wrong) Looking into courses I would need to take Geology, Descriptive Astronomy and Laboratory, Meteorology or Climatology, Historical Geology, Environmental Geology, History of Science and Technology, Petrology, Paleontology. The rest of the courses would be education-minded (PLCs, Ed psy, etc) I have yet to talk to my advisor and get their opinion but I have an appointment scheduled. I thought it might be of interest to reach out to those currently in the field and have taken these or similar classes. I wanted to know if it would be manageable. On a scale of difficulty how difficult is it? As someone who has likely taken most of these classes would you have advice for me to consider when thinking if I should do this major change? Thanks for your time!
Hello! This is a tricky one :/ I would say the best thing to do is to ask yourself what you feel most passionate about. Do you feel more excitement about being a wildlife biologist/conservationist/ zoologist? Or do you feel more excitement about being a science teacher? Funny enough, my second career choice would have been wildlife conservation so, interest wise, we’re in the same boat! It sounds like you’re interested in the zoo aspect but are nervous about continuing your major because these classes may be difficult in the future. I would personally say to stick with the major that you’re in. It sounds like you’ve already taken a decent amount of the hard classes. Sometimes colleges put the hard classes first to weed out folks and put slightly easier classes later. If you do end up switching your major to earth science education, you’ll still have to take difficult courses. I had to take 2 Chem classes, 2 physics classes, 2 calculus classes (for astronomy) and several astronomy classes including mathematics based astronomy which was an extremely difficult class for me. Additionally, I’ve learned that earth science is a dying science, at least in the state that I am in. Most students are choosing to take bio and if they need an extra credit, they’ll take environmental science. So try not to think about which major is easier because I would say both are equally difficult. If you’re passionate about your science, though, that passion is what will help drive your though through the difficult courses. So pick the major you feel passionate about and keep pushing through! You got this! I hope this helps and let me know what you decide!
Hi, I really appreciate your videos! In your school, you given resources for what to do for lessons and labs?
Thank you! I’m glad I can help! At my school, resources like that are usually handed down from veteran teachers to newer teachers. If everyone in your subject area is new (or if you’re the only one in your subject area) then finding resources is usually the teachers responsibility. However, you can usually find some in either your districts page, your states department of education page, or through the web. If you search through the web, just make sure it matches the standards you have to cover. If you teach earth science or are planning to, I’d be happy to share some of my resources!
You being a teacher and having a my hero academia poster cracks me up. I can picture you analyzing all of UA's curriculum and teaching strategies lol
Thanks for updates
Thanks for this
I'm a senior in high school with 2 months left with a GPA of 1.9 and I just decided to become a science teacher but I don't know where to start, any advice?
Hi Austin! Thanks for the comment! Have you been accepted into a college yet? If not, I recommend a community college near you. They usually accept students up until classes start and require a lower GPA than other colleges. You still have time to boost your GPA! Go to school tutoring, ask for help from your teachers, and look up online videos of the subjects you are learning. I’m a visual learner and benefitted so much from the educational videos that are out on RUclips. If you do the community school route, you’ll get to take all of your gen Ed’s there and then transfer to a 4 year as a junior for your education degree. I recommend an adolescent degree in science because you’ll get more teaching experience, but you can also get a traditional science degree and do the certification tests along the way. Hope this helps and congratulations on your upcoming graduation and career goals!
Don’t be freaked out by your high school GPA. Everything will reset when you go to college and there are many public colleges that do not have a GPA requirement and oftentimes are cheaper too!
may i ask what your steps into becoming a bio teacher were, im very interested in bio but im almost out of highschool and have no idea where to start
Hello Thalia! I’m earth science, but the process is very similar! If you’d like to teach, I’d recommend an education bachelors degree in your subject. I got my degree in adolescent education which was great to teach me teaching strategies and how to create lessons in my content area. At the end of your degree, most likely junior and senior year, you’ll have to take certification tests (the type depend on the state/country you’re in). There’s a few other ways as well but that’s my recommendation if you know you want to be a teacher! Good luck!
Hey! I was wondering if you had any tips or advice for an incoming student teacher of earth and space science!
Hi Meg! I’d recommend getting a copy of the textbook for sure! Even though it might be a concept you’re familiar with, some time you may have questions during planning and having the textbook to answer questions is super helpful. I’d also recommend, if possible, trying to plan a week ahead and staying a week ahead in planning. And when making lesson, make sure that you try to include the trio - lecture/notes portion, other media learning portion (reading, video, etc.), and a small activity whether it’s a worksheet or more hands on. I’ll try to make a video when I think of more tips. Good luck and I hope this helps!
@@teachingthemgreen4379 that would be great!! Thank you so much for the advice!!
Wish I watched this years ago! But if I ever need to again in the future, thanks!
Where are u from ?
How fun
Hi !! Happy New Year, out of curiosity what was your major? I am currently a junior studying Geology, and I have always liked the teaching route. 😁🌎
Thanks you too! I majored in Adolescent education: Earth Science. The benefit was learning teaching strategies. To be fair, I didn’t really learn any form my general education courses (education philosophy type classes). The best classes were the education classes specially for science students. Each student had to create a lesson on something they would actually teach and present it to the class as a demo lesson. It gave you experience in class and your professor and peers gave you feedback on what worked and what could be improved. The downside to getting an education degree is that you lose out on some geology content. I didn’t take higher level geology classes (hydrology is the only one I remember) because they weren’t required, but it would have been interesting to take them. Since you’re a junior, what I would recommend if you’re interested in teaching earth science or environmental science is doing a career switcher path or something equivalent. Essentially you apply for the job and let them know you’ll be enrolled in certification classes to get certified to teach. I’ve known several teachers that took this route. Now that I think of it, the majority of my science colleagues are career switchers. The certification process I don’t believe is difficult; you have to pass a few tests - earth science content knowledge, usually a student with disabilities teach/teaching students with diverse needs. Things along those lines. I hope that helps and good luck with your degree!
we need more videos from you
