The German Metabo is really popular in Europe. Really good stuff. Lots of it made in Germany or Europe. Some of there lower end stuff maybe made in the far east. In answer to your question about the name Metabo HPT. The rest of the world, Hitachi is now called Hikoki, it's just the USA it's called Metabo HPT. The logic was to get the name Metabo more well known in America. I am British and have been using Metabo for about thirty years, it just doesn't disappoint

I bought one of them new-in-box at an estate sale. Owner must have been a Craftsman tool hoarder because this wasn’t the only tool that was new. I recently assembled mine (model 113.225931) and all the bags of hardware were dated march of 1990. I gave up trying to mount the motor with the confuckulated guard. But I was able to mount the motor well by using a 14 inch screwdriver to pry down on the motor using the mount slats. Tracking is kinda funky for the 6 by 48” belt, but I think I figured it out.

I'm sorry to hear about your RUclips experience. Now, I need to check for myself since I have not published any videos in over a year (for lots of reasons). When I started making videos, it was a pure experiment. And to my surprise, I have been somewhat successful, which has always motivated me to keep going. When I started, I never planned to compete with channels with slicker production and editing. I just wanted to share what I had learned. Another way to look at it is that there is only 1 you. You have your own style and process. I enjoy seeing what people like you come up with and actually do, so keep going and share what you've learned.

Thanks for the video. I go back and forth between making 3d models on the computer (I tend to use Blender, free) and making cardboard models using corrugated cardboard and chip board, also free. Sometimes, the challenge of using models gets tricky when trying to imagine how the real product will perform when loaded. Will the materials and construction method sag or twist or fall apart when the final product is in use? I find the models can point out weaknesses in the design before the final build, which is good. The fun part for me is iterating over several different ideas before doing the final build.

theyre back, i just bought all 8. checked again today, now theres 16 in stock. they were on sale for ~$12, half the marked price. they do compete with milwaukee, and theyve gotten their hand slapped by milwaukee before when they outcompeted the higher end brand, thats what happened with octane, it was too good, the power tools are owned by the same company. looking at the ridgid organizer and the milwaukee packout side by side the material feels identical, fit and finish is the same, design is not as good unfortunately, milwaukee has them there with the little push thing rather than these bars we slide over hooks on these. but it shows they are likely make in the same factory.

Thanks for the review. I think you correctly identified the user group that should buy it. Myself, I'd get the 140 which will do 3/15" and bellow. I did lots of welding for 35 years with a Lincoln SP100 and a Lincoln AC only Tombstone. Thicker than that, use a stick welder. Heck, thicker than 1/8" use a stick welder. I replaced the tombstone with a Titanium 225 DC welder. The Titanium 225 stick welder will handle anything a hobbiest wants to do thicker than 1.8" to 3/16" and provide good strong welds. With patience and practice it's possible to make good welds on 1/2" plate with the Titanium 225. And it works well with 6010 which is good for repairs on weathered and rusty steel.

09:19 you helped me reach a conclusion! I bought a metabo angle grinder that looks exactly like the metabo angle grinder made in Germany, but it said made in china. I returned it for the “made in Germany”( in red letters on the box 😂) flat head 5 inch angle grinder immediately, the only other option. The “made in china” metabo angle grinder did not include the special handle and maybe other features. Thank you! There was a 200.00 dollar difference.

Last week, I bought its immediate predecessor a 113-22521 on Offer Up for $35. Did I need it? Well....now I do. It came with 6 belts and a stack of sanding discs, so the sander was essentially free. I was concerned about the drum bearings, but they are dual sealed and they roll smoothly with just the right amount of friction. Switch and motor are fine. It was owned by a shop teacher who kept it in decent shape. 3-76 date of manufacture. Currently in a state of disassembly to clean all of the sawdust out and re-bue some of the fasteners. And yes, these units were NOT designed for easy adjustment or maintenance. But they are IRON! I might make a drilled and tapped back plate for the motor mount screws, as that will eliminate the back side wrench. And a mod to the lower belt cover. They had ONE JOB and they screwed it up. I think I'll cut the back side off and possibly make a QD back side strap so that it will not fall off forward, since only spring clips hold it in place. But heck, it's been in place for FIFTY ONE YEARS! WTH? How has that thing been treating you?

Four years later, I was feeling really badly for a guy that knows how to use all of the tools but couldn't get your hands on them. The end product looked just as good as if you had used a milling machine to make it. It's a shame that the nice cast iron housings of the older tools have given way to soft stamped steel. Still, I'm going to try to make a rest like this for one of my newer grinders. Cheers! BTW- Screw the nine "thumbs down" votes as of May, 2024. You did a great job.

As far as the tracking goes, this generation of grinder is very hard to set, I set one side at a time just moving the adjustment a 16th of an inch at a time, it will never be right on but you can get it close, it is a very tedious process, good luck.

Thanks for the video…. Do people often cover up the hole in the center of the transformer w/ a metal cover?… I ask because I have a transformer from an old boombox/cd player that is fully encased in metal (except for where the wires come out of), and there’s a small toroidal core wrapped around the primary side’s 2 black wires, and Im wondering why it is there…. Its a 120v(ac)-to-12v(ac) single phase power transformer… it has 2 blackwires on primary side & 2 red on the secondary. Im wondering… could this actually be the same as the CT transformer u showed, except w/ the hole all covered up.

Long 5/32" allen key from directly above through an access hole when the screw points straight up. There are two screws: one visible which holds the drive belt pulley. You can leave that alone. THe disc screw is under the cover and visible from an access hole directly above it. Remove the screw and spray some penetrating oil and let it sit. Or, judicious use of propane torch to expand the disc at the hub and some wiggling - not prying - from the edge of the disc. Once the screw is out ( it seats in a slot and must be removed) you can pull on the edges of the disc while someone taps the shaft with a brass or aluminum drift punch. I was able to budge it loose from underneath using a large slot-headed screw driver. But don't pry the plastic shield or the drive pulley!
