Hello! My name is Steve and I love to travel and explore the country in my minivan camper (The Manivan). At the beginning of 2022 I decided that I wanted to start documenting my trips better for my future self. This is my attempt at that… For anyone else watching, enjoy! 😊

Awesome video. Thanks for taking us with you.
Great vid, I spent the last two summers (every weekend) w my heeler, camping, hiking, backpacking up there- beautiful place. I will def camp at that spot soon. Well made video of the area...wow. Good work sir
Great quality videography. Enjoyed your trip.
Glad you enjoyed the Winds! I live 2 miles from Fremont lake. You drove by my house on the way to the trail head!
@@ddaniel307 Haha That’s awesome! I’m so jealous. One of my favorite spots! Can’t wait to go back! Thanks for watching! 🤙🏼

Great stuff! What did you use to film if you don’t mind me asking.
Thank you for the kind words! I don’t mind at all! This one was filmed on just an iPhone 13 with a Shure MV88+ mic, but I now have an iPhone 15 pro, so I can get clearer zoom shots. Nothing fancy here though lol
@@ManivanAdventures Thank you!
Great video! Planning to do the same this November. Thank you for sharing the campsite! I was going to ask. Guess I'll bring my Bear Vault along. I didn't think I would need it there but a quick google search says maybe I do! LOL
@@mikekoetsier7952 Enjoy it! Plenty of places to hang a bear bag too, but I just like the convenience of the canister lol Thanks for the kind words and for watching!

What's the name of the river at the end of your video by the van?

What an incredible video !!! it’s such a pretty place. Thank you for making this video… I’m just getting into hiking and I started late in life. I don’t have a confidence to backpack but maybe I’ll get it if I start buying the gear😂

Do the handles get hot on you pot?
@@rschreck876 Yeah they do, but when it is colder out, they cool off pretty quickly. I usually bring a little towel or something to grab the pot handles if it’s hot.
Do you remember what day of the week you went?
@@acexpeditions I believe it was on Friday and Saturday. I am just realizing that I typed the wrong date in the beginning lol
@@ManivanAdventures awesome, I’m gonna solo the trail very soon. hopefully I can get that same campsite!!
It’s a beautiful trail! Enjoy it! That site is easily the best too, so good luck! 🤙🏼
@@ManivanAdventures I ended up going and staying at that campsite the weekend after that comment. I’ve hiked many trails in NC and Tennessee since hiking the BMCT and have yet to find a similar campsite. Have you found anything even close to as cool as this one?

@@tracykooken2606 Definitely worth the drive! Can’t really go wrong in the Winds, but I did find a really cool spot to pitch my tent on the first night. That was just such a beautiful view to wake up to! Thanks for watching! 🙂
Sadly many of the glaciers are melting and or already gone 😢
@@GaryEllington-p7b Yeah, it’s a total bummer. I wish I could have seen it like that, but this place still blew my mind!

Refreshing and great content - are dogs allowed in the Wind River Range?
@@lesleyjones8279 Thank you so much! And yes, dogs are allowed. Saw a few people with doggos out there last time I was there!
Like the "Stow on the go" from osprey. Genius!
@@ToniTortelini Exactly where I got the idea! Lol I do this on all my packs now. Super easy and cheap little mod 👍🏼
@@ManivanAdventures I will do that with my pack as well. Thanks for the idea! 💡
Of course! Happy to help! 🤙🏼
Is that the Kakwa 55? If so, what material and how are you liking it?
@@rschreck876 Actually it is the Kakwa 40 that uses the ultra 200 fabric, but I just sold it and bought the Kakwa 55. The 40 is a beast and I absolutely love the pack, but I just wanted a bit more space to pack some extra comfort items or for winter trips. The 55 uses ultra 200X fabric, which feels very similar, but is supposed to be even stronger. I haven’t used it yet, but they made some nice improvements to these newer models, like a much larger front mesh pocket and they redesigned the shoulder straps and hip belt slightly to be even more comfortable (It was already a very comfy pack). The pockets are my only minor complaint because they don’t wrap around the hips very nicely when they are stuffed full, but they did increase the size of the pockets and I don’t usually have them full anyway. They are still pretty spacious and can be zipped and unzipped with one hand easily, so it is a very minor complaint. Some people don’t like that there is no back ventilation, but that isn’t an issue for me at all and my back sweats pretty much the same as it would with my REI Flash 55. Other than that, it is the perfect pack for me personally. I highly recommend it!
Excellent video!! Thank you for sharing. I’m curious on what pack and tent you were using?
@@Shmack555 Thank you so much! I’m using the Durston Kakwa 40 pack and the Durston X-Mid 1 tent. I HIGHLY recommend both, but I did recently change to the 55 L version of this pack so I have more space for winter or shorter comfort trips. Relatively affordable as far as high end, ultralight backpacking gear goes and amazing performance!
I’m not a hiker, and wondering how you find/follow the trail. I don’t see any markers anywhere.
@@coffeecake8835 Some trails will have little piles of rocks to look out for called cairns that mark the trail, but I always download a GPS track of the trail to follow on my phone using the AllTrails app
@@ManivanAdventures Thanks. That’s quite interesting. So, you can see yourself on the trail in real-time?
@@coffeecake8835 Yep! It’s kinda like Google Maps for hiking. You can search the area you are in (as long as you have cell service) to find new trails or you can make your own GPS track, then download the maps to your phone to use when you are in the backcountry with no cell service. I never hike without it!
@@ManivanAdventures Thanks for all of that info! I’ve always wondered how people stay safe out there. 👍
beautiful man, I camped at photographers point, island lake and Titcomb basin on my last trip (vid on my channel). Its been 3 years and excited to say I will be back in September attempting the high route. That was a nice moose catch! I had a similar experience last you in CO. Giant animals! Great vid, thanks for sharing. Subbed.
@@SoloSchmitty Thanks for kind words and support! Gave you a sub as well. Yeah, this range is easily one of my favorite places. That moose scared the crap out of me! Haha I don’t hike in Grizzly country often, but when I do, I am a bit paranoid about grizzlies, so anything like that really gets my heart racing. Lol I walked by a deer that was right next to the trail about 5ft away from me last time I was in the Winds and had the same reaction. I guess it’s good that my natural reaction is to freeze and stand my ground and not run away in case it does end up being a griz! 😂
@@ManivanAdventures Agreed on the Grizzly. I did a trip in Montana a couple years back in the Beartooths and had some grouse blow up in front of me in some deep woods. I thought my time had come... Keep up the good work and thanks for the sub!
Haha Glad you made it out alive! Definitely going to give your channel a watch when I get a chance too. Again, thanks for the support!
Very well-done Vlog! Awesome trip.
@@zzww9483 Thank you for the kind words! 🤙🏼
Great job. I will be hiking this and the Titcomb this Sept. Nice shout out to Tristan. I could follow right along on my map.
@@alan98296 Thank you! Enjoy it! This mountain range is breathtaking and easily one of my favorites!
Epic hike and great video! I am scheduled to go there myself at the end of August. I would love to set up my tent in Titcomb Basin itself, as you did, but I didn't see any trees in the video on which I could hang my bear bag. I don't want to lug the additional weight of a bear canister on my back for the length of a multi-day hike. If I had to guess, that's one of the reasons why most people set up camp at Seneca Lake, from which they do day hikes to Titcomb Basin without their packs and tents. But I have to admit that I think you scored a huge bonus in setting up your tent in the basin itself. But the bear canister gave you that flexibility.
@@dontbeadrone Understandable to not want to carry the canister weight. It honestly kills me that my canister alone is one of the heaviest items in my pack haha Luckily my other stuff is pretty lightweight. I also found that I just really love the convenience of the canister (especially as a late night snacker) and I find myself still taking it on trips with plenty of spots to hang a bag. As far as places to hang a bear bag in the Basin… I’m 99% sure that isn’t happening lol BUT there are trees at Island Lake, just before the Basin. It is a very popular camping spot though and there were quite a few people there when I hiked through, so I chose to try for a much more secluded spot in the Basin. It looked like people were camping on top of each other at Island Lake, so I have to strongly recommend camping in the Basin if you can make it work! Thanks for the kind words and enjoy your hike! This one was easily one of my favorites!
Wow wee that was quite a climb!
@@jeffreyvasquez3911 It was! Lol I actually just got back from a trip back there last week and the snow made it even more challenging! But totally worth it!
what is the name of the bear canister you are using?
It is the Bear Vault. This one is the small BV250.
Thanks. My buddy and I are planning a hike on Teton crest trail in late Aug to Sept. bout 4 nights. What size would you recommend? Thanks for the quick response.
Awesome! That sounds amazing! I would probably recommend the BV450 for that. It’s the next size up from what I use for 2 or 3 nights. One good tip is to store your food for the first day outside of the canister too if you need a little more space, since you will obviously eat that food anyway and will only have to worry about storing the garbage. Have a great trip!
Truly one of the most beautiful places for a backpacking trip. Thanks for the video.
I agree! It’s between this and the Sierra in CA for me. Nice not having to worry about Grizzlies in CA though lol Thanks for watching!

Amazingly beautiful. I'm from New England, which is beautiful and lush, but my visit to NV, AZ, CA, OR and UT was wonderful. UT is indeed the most beautiful. Bryce is incredible, too. Thank you for sharing your adventure.
I’m from MI, so we have some beautiful landscapes here, especially with the Great Lakes, but everything out west is so dramatically different and I’m obsessed. Lol I have to agree that UT has some of the most incredibly beautiful rock formations/colors and is also one of my favorites. I have only made a few quick stops at Bryce, but I think I’m going to stop there again to do an actual hike in a couple weeks, but still doing some last minute planning. Can’t really go wrong out there lol Thanks for watching! 🙂

@@mmagscott Yep! They have a few more backcountry sites at Courthouse Wash, but as far as the Devil’s Garden Trail goes, that’s the only one.
Excellent video and great photography. Watching on large screen 4K OLED and it's almost like being there!. It's not just the terrain either I can see every shade in the clouds in the sky. Great work.
@@steveobrien8148 Wow, thank you so much! 🙂 I was really struggling with my newish editing software and spent hours and hours trying to figure out how to get the colors/exposure right, so you have no idea how happy I am to hear that! Lol Thanks for watching!
Such a cool video and epic adventure! Thank you for capturing all this beauty and sharing. If I may ask, how might someone deal with leg-cramps on a long hike like this? Thank you
Thanks for the kind words! It really is an amazing place. One or my favorites! The best advice I would have for cramps would be to stay hydrated and get those electrolyte drink mix packets. Electrolytes are great at helping you stay hydrated and are really good for the muscles. LMNT is a bit pricey, but they’re great because they have no sugar in theirs. You can usually find Liquid IV for a great deal at Costco too, if you don’t mind the added sugar (I think you can still order it online without a membership). Also, do some stretches before starting your hike and take plenty of short breaks along the way to do some more quick stretches and eat a snack. That should help! Thanks for watching and happy hiking! 🤙🏼
