This trip was absolutely incredible. After going to the Winds for the Cirque of the Towers last year, I knew I had to come back to this mountain range… The scenery is just so mindblowingly beautiful and it has easily become one of my favorite places to visit.
Not everything went to plan and I was nearly trampled by a moose lol, but I still have to say that it was the perfect trip!
This video was filmed from August 27 - September 3, 2023

Truly one of the most beautiful places for a backpacking trip. Thanks for the video.
I agree! It’s between this and the Sierra in CA for me. Nice not having to worry about Grizzlies in CA though lol Thanks for watching!
thanks for sharing 😊
Thanks for watching! 🤙🏼
I love your videos! You have inspired me to try a hike like this. Is late august the best time to hike the wind river to avoid crowds and thunderstorms!
Thank you so much! Happy to hear it! This mountain range is incredibly beautiful! As far as the best time to go, I’m honestly not entirely sure. I have been there twice so far, both times in late Aug/Sept and the weather was perfect. Though, a guy I talked to on his way out said it rained all 5 days he was out there, so maybe I just got lucky. Lol Some of the more popular spots can get a little crowded with campers (Island Lake, for example), but I never really had an issue finding my own little piece of paradise out there. I’m pretty sure Aug/Sept is peak hiking season in the Winds, but try to avoid weekends and I don’t think you should have any issues. Good luck and have fun! 🤙🏼
Epic hike and great video! I am scheduled to go there myself at the end of August. I would love to set up my tent in Titcomb Basin itself, as you did, but I didn't see any trees in the video on which I could hang my bear bag. I don't want to lug the additional weight of a bear canister on my back for the length of a multi-day hike. If I had to guess, that's one of the reasons why most people set up camp at Seneca Lake, from which they do day hikes to Titcomb Basin without their packs and tents. But I have to admit that I think you scored a huge bonus in setting up your tent in the basin itself. But the bear canister gave you that flexibility.
@@dontbeadrone Understandable to not want to carry the canister weight. It honestly kills me that my canister alone is one of the heaviest items in my pack haha Luckily my other stuff is pretty lightweight. I also found that I just really love the convenience of the canister (especially as a late night snacker) and I find myself still taking it on trips with plenty of spots to hang a bag.
As far as places to hang a bear bag in the Basin… I’m 99% sure that isn’t happening lol BUT there are trees at Island Lake, just before the Basin. It is a very popular camping spot though and there were quite a few people there when I hiked through, so I chose to try for a much more secluded spot in the Basin. It looked like people were camping on top of each other at Island Lake, so I have to strongly recommend camping in the Basin if you can make it work!
Thanks for the kind words and enjoy your hike! This one was easily one of my favorites!
Great adventure in such a stunningly beautiful area.
Agreed! One of my favorite places!
Thanks for Vid!!
How many miles do you have on that minivan??
Thanks for watching! She had about 210,000 miles, but I actually just upgraded to a newer van!
Was there a dead cat at 54:51?
Not an actual dead cat, like the animal lol It’s what they call those fuzzy things that go on microphones to reduce wind noise
what is the name of the bear canister you are using?
It is the Bear Vault. This one is the small BV250.
Thanks. My buddy and I are planning a hike on Teton crest trail in late Aug to Sept. bout 4 nights. What size would you recommend? Thanks for the quick response.
Awesome! That sounds amazing! I would probably recommend the BV450 for that. It’s the next size up from what I use for 2 or 3 nights. One good tip is to store your food for the first day outside of the canister too if you need a little more space, since you will obviously eat that food anyway and will only have to worry about storing the garbage. Have a great trip!
