Almost Cultured
Добавлен 12 сен 2023
Hello, and welcome to Almost Cultured where we explore cultures in our own backyard!
We are Josh and Marissa, two best friends who believe that one of the best ways to learn about different cultures is through their food. We wanted to do just this and put our reactions on RUclips in hopes to inspire others to try foods that might be out of their comfort zone. Besides food, we are also interested in exploring different aspects of culture through history, art, music, and language. We invite you to subscribe and come along on this adventure with us as we learn about different cultures and expand our horizons.

I'm with Marissa on putting the ramen in the boiling water when i was in college. It was the super cheap stuff and that's what the directions said. I've never had authenic ramen before. Also, yay for finally having a fixed camera!!!!
So interesting!!
interesting, I never knew there were cotton candy machines!
Alex and I are big fans of going out for Japanese ramen! We also make ramen packets at home but enhance them with more seasonings, vegetables, and marinated eggs!
That's awesome! It's great to take the packets and add your own flavors to them. Sorry I missed your comment Caitlin! :-)
wooo new episode! :-)
The halva that you sampled is never meant to be eaten on its own. It is very popular during lent and is eaten along with bread, olives, tomatoes etc. The homemade halva is considered more of a dessert as it has a pudding like texture that requires you to eat it with a fork or a spoon.
The I in ION chovolate is pronounced EE. So the bar is pronounced EON.
Truly not sure where you're getting peanut butter flavor in the sesame pastelli. There's never peanut butter in our postelli. You're mixing up the flavor of sesame seeds with peanut butter.
Honestly a weird selection of Greek snacks.
most of the people around the world doesnt like halva and pasteli (sesami with honey)...99% of greeks love em both..of all those u have tried i dont like mastiha chios(is the gum)...i can vomit lol
the truth is that chios chewing gum is very good for the stomach
😋😀
You're very welcome!
Thanks for having me on. It was a blast getting to film with you both. I can't wait to see what's next!
Thank you for coming on! It would be lovely to have you on for a future episode, too! - Josh
I'm sorry your camera isn't working and that explains the audio from last video. You did a great job recapping what was missed this episode. I'm glad you had fun at Disney, especially EPCOT which is my favorite. Shout out to the movies in the background. Hercules is my favorite!
Fun episode! I feel like the hot chili would have been my favorite. The audio made you seem really far from the camera. I think it would have been cool to guess the flavor, especially on the one in Taiwanese.
This was so fun to watch! Came away with two take aways...salty snacks seemed to go over better than the sweeter ones & Marissa hates pb & 🥜! 😄 noted!
All of these sound delicious, especially the peanut butter ones. Marissa knows I will have almost anything nut related, so I will gladly take anything you get. Also, I feel I would be stubborn like Josh in opening those snacks. Finally - BLOW POPS!!!! (lollipop with gum in the middle)
What a wonderful video - were you meaning fruit winders at 8:20 - nice to see a great variety of different countries and flavours. 😊
Possibly fruit winders... I had them when I was little and can't remember what they were called. I'm glad you enjoyed the video! -Marissa
Fun episode! I tried the candies you gave me as you had them in the video. The Pulparindo did have a little kick to it. I'm also a mango fan, so I enjoyed that one. The muscat gummy candy tasted a lot like fruit snacks you can get in the US. I agree that the Pelon Mini reminded me of the Pulparindo, just taking more effort to get to. I think my favorite was the cocoa creamy fudge. Thanks for giving me some of the candy!
I'm glad you enjoyed them! -Marissa
I'd love to see you try mochi
I'd love to do an episode on mochi!! Definitely one day. -Josh
I love Ramune! Was always my go to when at sushi restaurants as a kid or even now- they’re always a fun challenge but definitely worth it!
I agree! And so different from any sodas that we have in the US. -Marissa
I also struggle to open ramune lol. It takes more force than you would expect!! The flavor of the original is kind of hard to describe but it tastes kind of like bubblegum to me...
I don't remember having to use that much force when I had Ramune in college. Maybe I just forgot. 🤣 -Marissa
Great video as always ! Very enjoyable to watch 😊 loving the content
Thank you so much Mike! Means a ton having your support as we work through the early stages of our channel! - Josh
You two seem to get more comfortable on camera with each video. Keep up the great work! These sodas seem interesting, especially with how much work it takes to even open them.
Thanks Dan! These videos are really good practice for me being on camera especially because I would love to make travel videos one day. -Marissa
The plunger is something I have never seen. I was worried with the first one it was just gonna explode. Strawberry is always a great flavor in just about anything! Another week with no D Tier! Please do the French fry flavor haha. I don't see how in any circumstance that could taste good but it sure would be interesting!
I was also worried it would explode, and we would be cleaning up a big mess on camera. Thank goodness it did not. I would be interested to try french fry flavor. One day... -Marissa
I can't wait to try French Fry flavor :P Thanks Adam! I was thinking you'd probably keep track of the tier list in some way...
@@joshuaiyer1434 haha 😄
Great video as always , thank you 🙏 look forward to find these and try! Keep it up. 😊
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it! -Marissa
Would love to see y’all try some Jewish snacks in the future! You can never go wrong with a good hamantaschen 😌
Thank you for the suggestion! I've never heard of hamanteschen, but they look good! -Marissa
These seem like good snacks. i would love to try some next time I visit.
You should! I still have a bag full at my house. They are all mixed together though. -Marissa
Was just thinking about this channel this morning and was eagerly awaiting another video. Sometimes those bags are no joke to open and are basically impossible lol. Another great video! I wish I could recommend snacks for you but I have not ventured out in terms of different foods very much. Did you purposely coordinate your shirt colors? Josh's shirt almost matches perfect with the top half of Marissa's shirt 😂or maybe you both were on the same wavelength.
Haha! Actually, in both videos, our coordinating shirt colors was coincidental though maybe we will need to make it a trend. I'm glad you liked the video! -Marissa
@@AlmostCultured2 didn’t even notice the first video! Maybe it should be a trend keep up the great work!
Great job! 🙌 I enjoyed watching and subscribed!
Thank you Mrs. Beltz! I'm really glad you enjoyed our video. :) -Marissa
Subscribed! Love y’all’s dynamic throughout the video- you balance each other very well! I wish you and your future travels through this channel all the luck and delicious food to come 💙
Thank you Ally! I think us being friends for years helped out in that department. :P Can't wait to try more food and have some new adventures! - Josh
Loved having this video playing while I worked on my crochet! Such a relaxing, nice video. Looking forward to more of them!
Thank you so much Sabrina! I'm glad it was relaxing for you to watch. Excited to share more! - Josh
This is such a lovely idea for a channel. Great introductory video both of you are so well spoken! You laid out the scope of the channel well! Can’t wait to see more!! Very surprised the wasabi flavor didn’t destroy your mouth.
Thank you! I was surprised the wasabi flavor did not destroy our mouths also. I was hesitant to try it, and so was Josh, but it was very mild.
What a great video - made me want to try them ! I never really liked seaweed as of the taste but these look appetising, especially the spiced ones.
Thank you! Any seaweed that is flavored masks the iconic seaweed taste, so they are worth trying at least once.
I love all sorts of seaweed based snacks, so I bet I would love them! Great video you guys! Subscribed!
If you like seaweed, you probably would like these as well. There were other flavors of that same brand that we did not end up buying to try. I would be interested to see what they taste like as well.
