    Great Video! One question i have is what is the actual area to be used for square footage. Is it the ENTIRE attic (anything and everything under roof, including garage, porches, Lanai, patio etc) or should it just be the attic space above the air conditioned space? Without knowing that, it seems like the calculations would be for nothing.. Thank you!

    How thick is your wall? Is it regular 2x4, with 5/8" drywall on both sides? I am thinking a double-wall might eliminate the sound completely.

    Genius. I've been looking on and off for a solution like this for a few weeks. I have three heads to a ducted mini-split. It's almost impossible to find good information on installing these overall, let alone these sidebar details. I already drilled my holes, but the lines are not installed yet, and I'm rushing to get it done before the new siding arrives next month. Thank you for sharing.

    Question -If you have a ridge vent, does it make a difference where you put the soffit vents? The house I just moved into externally has perforated vinyl soffit venting. But the wood sheathing is closed off, there's no ventilation into the attic. I am going to drill holes in it to allow for this. It has a 13' ridge vent across 8 rafter bays. But pitched roofs at either end, that are another ~4 bays each, of diminishing heights. Should I drill the holes for the soffit intact vents just in the bays that have the ridge vent? Or all of them (or as many as I can get to)? If this, should be be the same amount of ventilation per bay? Or, more that have ridge vents? Or more that don't? I'd think if the holes are in the bays with the ridge vent, that would get maximum flow. But then the other ~half of the attic has no direct ventilation. I'm not sure if there's a best practice for this. Thanks.

  • @bokononisti2820
    @bokononisti2820 Месяц назад

    I'm sure the increased soffit venting improved airflow, but do you have enough airflow to keep the attic from getting much hotter than the living space directly below? Seems to me ridge vents cannot compete with a fan or even a roof turbine in terms of exhaust capability. But of course with those you have to be even more focused on sufficient intake at the soffits.

    • @MaverickMakersUSA
      @MaverickMakersUSA Месяц назад

      It is still very hot in my attic

    • @bokononisti2820
      @bokononisti2820 Месяц назад

      @@MaverickMakersUSA Thanks for the feedback. I think ridge vents are popular because they look better than a fan or turbine, and contractors are incentivized to push them because they can charge more for the work, but they just can't move a lot of air. The DIY channel "I Like To Make Stuff" installed a ridge vent and found hardly any difference in the room below and only 10* improvement in the attic. 130 is better than 140, and 120 is better than 130, but that kind of improvement is underwhelming. With attic fans and plenty of supply air, it's possible to get attic close to outside temp (maybe 10 degrees warmer during day, and only a few degrees warmer after sun goes down).

    I'm seeing this issue as well but I believe it is because my knee wall angle is 45 degrees and many of these slant shoes are set at like 40 degrees. I found a few people talking about how the cut these or use a belt sander to get it closer to the angle they need so you may want to check that first. I put mine on a scrap piece of baluster and tightened up the set screw and you can see it forces it straight to the baluster (at least mine does) but when you try to install it on an angle different than 40 it looks like it lifts away. Just something to think about. I may ultimately just glue them as you suggest but I am still looking around for alternatives. LMKWYT.

    have you ever looked into which is more preferable between staying at 60/40 or going slightly over on the intake just to have even flow? for example on my home i fixed a humidity issue by moving from 450nfa on the exhaust side to 650nfa but have 1170 nfa intake or the correct intake for 1/150 which i couldn't quite get to on the exhaust. it just didn't seem like reducing intake just to hit 60/40 and plugging what was there made any sense. currently that's what? roughly 64% intake 36% exhaust with that 650nfa exhaust and 1170intake on a 1750sq attic deck. am i wrong to think way? or is there any drawback may be a better term?

Changing blades is actually very easy since you only have to twist the lock just a couple turns or so. Untwisting it completely is not at all necessary, that's part of the reason why to magnet is there.

    I have a garage where they left it open on the front past the stub walls. When I added drywall to the ceiling to finish it for regulating temperature I added black plastic soffit channels to every spot on both sides. Did not know it might be a math requirement and maybe I coulda had a couple less. It is a three car garage and part of it is separated by that weird drywall partition. I absolutely hate that they did not use attic trusses and have been close to spending the 25k+ to take the roof off garage and redo it with attic trusses or more likely joists for a unconditioned storage room.
