    Would it be possible to leave out the pannier end pieces entirely so then u can mount both panniers whenever u want without having to unscrew anything? Whats the purpose of them anyway?

    • @pat2bornot2b
      @pat2bornot2b 3 дня назад

      No, as the end section on the SH23 is part of the pannier locking position mechanism. It's not on the SH36, more a position stop, but the SH23 end part is longer and so you can't fit the SH36 on if in place as the gap then to fit is too small..

    Edited out the starter turning over at the end lol.. What a waste of time, obviously didnt change a thing. Often the solinoid gets dirty contacts and can restrick the current. A slow start can also be related to a cam sensor.

    • @pat2bornot2b
      @pat2bornot2b 21 день назад

      The solenoid had previously been replaced and made no difference. Changing to a better wiring helps the flow, if you check on a lot of forums this is a common problem on many ducatis. I've had 3 monsters prior to this bike but remember this monster is 23 years old and age plays a part. Thank you for your comment as it is always helpful to get different options.

    From memory u r supposed to position the crankshaft in a certain position via the marks on the ignition trigger plate and crank case b4 you release the camchain tensioner I know this all too well because I failed to do that prior to slackening my tensioner and retensioning the lock nut and there was a rather disturbing noise coming from the cam chain😮

    • @pat2bornot2b
      @pat2bornot2b 2 месяца назад

      Just checked my factory manual it says to line up the C Mark on the trigger plate with the crank case mark b4 u do the undo the lock nut and bolt not quite sure why this is could be when all the pistons are all lined up evenly in the centre of their stroke or if there’s a spot in the crank rotation where there is not as much tension on the cam chain? Some people swap to the later model auto tensioner

    • @pat2bornot2b

      @pat2bornot2b 2 месяца назад

      Thank you for your comment but they are not taken out of context in this video and in Ireland we have had the same speed limits for years and one of the lowest death rates in Europe. So you have to ask what has changed to make this happen, more drug/drink driving and more mobile phone use, this is how you should analyse any problem, you look at what has changed. On emissions if you look at all these documents it clearly shows that at 30klm CO2e is far great than at 50klm and above and ovly after 100klm does it increase, see page 9 of the TII 2022 Report and page 27 of the Modelling Report

If the SH36 stoppers are fitted there is no where for the SH23 to secure into, this also acts as the locking mechanism. With the SH23 stoppers fitted the SH36 can't locate to secure onto the mounts as they are raised at the end by the end stoppers. The fitting brackets come as standard with the fittings fiorcthe SH36 while the SH23 come with their matching end stopper. I hope that is of help to you.

    I bought a 2002 M750S ie about 3 years ago, a low mileage bike that spent nearly 18 years sitting in a garage and looked practically brand new. With new belts, tires and fluids, I racked up 12,000 miles in a few short months. What a joy and thrill to ride. Then I found a non running 2001 S4, it had water in the front cylinder due to sitting outside with the airbox cover removed. I discovered the key code system in the instrument cluster was faulty, so I replaced the engine ECU with one I found in Italy that eliminated that system. I rode it on a 4,000 mile journey with my two best friends last June and loved every minute of that trip. This is not a bike for everyone, especially those reluctant to learn how to adjust desmodromic valves, but for those of us with the technical ability or the wallet capable of paying for the maintenance, it is a brilliant bike. Thanks for sharing yours with us.

Never a problem, and then due to its high milage and a great offer price on a trade in against a new Aprilia Shiver in 2008, another great bike,it was gone. Roll on to the start 2020 and I just had to buy another S4 as it was just one of those bikes I regreted selling and I bought a very low mileage one. Then had a lowside on it, ended in hospital and as the bike was damaged, that is when the carbon changes really happened. Enjoy your S4 👍😁

    Hi mate, would you know if the locks of the SH36 would fit into the SH23? Greetings from Germany.

    • @pat2bornot2b
      @pat2bornot2b 5 месяцев назад

      I would say that they wouldn't as the SH23 has not got enough depth as the SH36 lock and key are much longer.

    Too bad they don't make the SH36 expandable like the top box, but I understand that they may not be as weatherproof. So just how difficult is it to change the rubber mounting end pieces?

    • @pat2bornot2b
      @pat2bornot2b 5 месяцев назад

      It's not difficult to change the end fitting but why SHAD could not have made a dual porpoise fitting that would take both the SH23 and the SH36. Having to keep 2 small end fitting that may get mislaid (or lost) plus the time lost if for any reason you would like to swap them quickly is the issue. Thank you for your comment, alway welcome.

      I believe Shad made the expandable vario panniers for bmw. I had them for 14 years & they never leaked.

    I took delivery of a Niken in March 2023. Wow. What a ride. So comfortable, smooth and planted on the road. The safest motorbike in the world.

      Yes totally planted, amazing machine. But prepared for some other motorcyclist not understanding and being negative. Their loss. Enjoy your wonderful machine.

    I've owned a Niken since March 2023. It is an amazing machine. Never fear a low side again, even with a puncture. So solid, smooth and comfortable. Thank you Yamaha!

    Great video Pat. I've been intrigued by this beast on the rare occasion I spot one. It makes a lot of sense in the one place that matters most. Odd that this design has'nt become more mainstream. Cheers. Donal Litster

      Hi Donal, I think it is that a lot of motorcyclist world wide are very conservative, yes it look odd but so do so many new inventions, takes people time to get used to things that are different from the norm, think of when adventure bikes arrived first although the Niken is a bit more challenging.

    Thanks for the video. Glad you like the bike. I just bought an almost new 2019 Niken GT for a very reasonable price. Looking forward to riding it this summer, once the snow is gone (here in Canada). Two questions for you: could you give me a link or direction where you bought your hand guards? I assume they fit well? And also: how much difference does your extra 'slip-on screen' make? Did you also look into other full taller screens? I am 188 cm tall so am expecting some turbulence at higher speed with the OEM screen.

      I bought the hand guards from Amazon www.amazon.de/gp/product/B01M3TIU2R/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 they are Acerbis Dual Road Hand Guards and the fitting kit needed (as the one from amazon way not the right one) from Louis.de the correct kit is ACERBIS MOUNT. K. 0017634 which you will need. Like all hand guard they block the mirrors, so you end up peering around them. The slip-on screen made a massive difference as the GT screen causes terrible helmet noise. I've not tried other screen but may get a small one which might put the wind more on my chest rather than directly on my helmet.

      Yes getting older has few advantages except experience. I had no issue only the cruise control that was a recall and I made a video on replacing the switch. Yes always being asked about the bike. Thank you for your comment :)

    Well I think this answers my question which is will the SH23’s work with the SH58 top box.

    • @pat2bornot2b
      @pat2bornot2b 6 месяцев назад

      Yes they do work and I've found the SH23s more useful and the SH58, although being large and not really being a topbox fan, I have found it to be so practical I'm using it a lot more that I expected

    Hi man, what are the symptoms if the fuel pump needs to be replaced?

    • @pat2bornot2b
      @pat2bornot2b 7 месяцев назад

      At the start it felt like a flat spot between 4k to 5k revs, then sometimes the feeling of running on one cylinder to on acceleration no power then all power, fuel starvation. Normally if the issues is at low revs it can be the fuel filter and higher revs the pump.
