Why Were The Ottomans TERRIFIED of This Muslim EMPIRE (FULL DOCUMENTARY)
In the 16th century, a new Muslim dynasty emerged in North West Africa, in response to the aggressive European imperialism and Ottoman expanionism.
The Saadi state rose up to the occasion as the undisputed anti-colonial dynasty that resisted the invasion, contrary to the Merīnids and Waṭṭasids - who had been unable to expel the invaders, which ended when they signed pacts with the enemy. In the early 16th century, the Saadis slowly wrested control of what is now modern-day Morocco from the Waṭṭasids.
In the process, a succession crisis in the dynasty triggers an epic war, involving the Three Empires of the time: Portugal, Spain and the Ottomans, all involved in one way or another - directl...

    I would say pretty standard for feudal times where money and power were the biggest motivator on both sides causing alliances' to shift with the winds their is no right or wrong both Christian and Muslim scholars try to justify certain actions made by protagonist's as good or evil but in reality race and religion had very little to do with it. Both sides are incredibly hypocritical.

    The Ottomans destroyed the Saadi armies at the Battle of Oued Zadidja (1551), the Battle of Taza (1553), Tlemcen (1557), and Fez (1553, 1576). The capital of Morocco was captured twice by the Turks and puppet rulers were placed on the throne. They achieved these victories not even with forces from Istanbul, but using Janissary corps in Algiers and few thousand Berber auxiliaries. Despite this obvious fact, you would have to be either a Moroccan nationalist or anti-Ottoman for some reason to claim that the Ottomans had the slightest concern about the Saadis.

    • @animatedislamichistory

      all of this is correct. But have you watched the video ? The title is sensationalized, exaggerated for clicks. When you watch the video, you see that the reality is tamer. That the Saadi had ambitions to become a competing power, trying to challenge The Ottoman's role as leaders of the muslim world. But that they did not succeed, or only had a brief window of opportunity to do so but missed it. Plus all of the events you mentioned are about the Saadi pre-1578, before the successful battle of the 3 kings, and before the invasion of the Songhai Empire, after which the Saadi held the wealthy slave and gold trade routes. The Saadi dynasty of 1595 was very wealthy and had a vast empire, and were it not for the political instabilities and the plague of the late 16th century, who knows what would have happened. We know for a fact that plans about a Re-reconquista were made.

      @@animatedislamichistory Fair enough. The title is as attractive as it is triggering. The Songhai expedition was a breakthrough that paralleled the Europeans' domination of trade routes as a result of geographical discoveries and sought a solution to it. Indeed it certainly deserves to be described in detail and refutes the superstition that Islamic states were passive and irrelevant in the age of Geographical Discovery, just as the India/Aceh Campaigns and North Europe/America raids of the Ottomans showed.

      As a Morrocan i have to response u first we don t say that the saadis were stroneger than the ottomans or they posed an existential threat to them but despite their many losses in western algeria against ottomans but in the end they have succeeded each time in retaking their capital Fes and preserving Morocco's independence especially after they defeated the ottomans in the Battle of Wadi al-Laban1558 , after that the Ottomans were convinced that occupying Morocco unlike Algeria or Tunis was impossible or would take a long time and effort, so they simply abandoned the matter

    The main goal of the Ottomans was to conquer Europe. If they had conquered Morocco they would have to face Spain and were more vulnerable due to tensions on two frontiers. And since Morocco wouldn't have the guts to attack the mighty Ottomans and question the khalifat of Selim, the Ottomans didn't worry much about them. So, the already weakened Moroccans weren't barely an obstacle to the Ottomans.

    • @kingdaymon6433
      @kingdaymon6433 6 дней назад

      Yet that is exactly what ended up dooming the Ottomans in the end. Constant warfare in the Balkans and the lack of exploration and colonization in the new world are exactly why they died such a slow and painful death for almost 3 centuries.

      It is a possible scenario, however one must also realize that the Ottoman were struggling to keep their vast empire in check, with the safavid at the east, the europeans powerhouses to their west, and constant challenges in the Mediterranean sea. Using this kind of reasoning would also lead us to say that Yemen should have submitted to the Ottoman to give them passage into the rich indian sea. Not a very convincing argument in my humble opinion.

    Most of this was fake, It is true the portuguese were defeated and it had a profound effect BUT. Ottoman expansion was halted not because of fear but because of the overstreched empire they already had. Also there wasn't much focus on morrocos due to the overall lack of resources compared to india. Also after restoration of the portuguese monarchy many cities in the morrocan coast were taken by portugal and spain alike. One is still in the possession of spain. The last part is also incredibly goofy, they were nowhere near to being able to compete with the ottomans in any way. Especially super the Suleimans the Magnificents reign and after. Militarily, manpower, richness, technology, experience was all in favor of the ottomans.

      We do history, and part of history is to relay different historical narratives that existed. We never invent narratives and as a result, this narrative is found in the following sources: - al-Fishtālī, Abū Fāris `Abd al-`Azīz. Manāhil al-ṣafā fī ma’ āthir mawālīnā al-shurafā’ - Ibn al-Qāḍī, Aḥmad. Al-Muntaqā al-maqṣūr ‘alā ma’athir al-khīlafa al- Manṣūr - Al-Ifrānī, Muḥammad al-Ṣaghīr ibn al-Ḥājj. Nuzhat al-ḥādī bi ‘akhbār mulūk al-qarn al-ḥādī. For an english source, do consult the following: - Reviving the Islamic Caliphate in Early Modern Morocco, Stephen Cory Ottoman expansionism was not limited to merely annexing lands, which is what your comment implies. The Ottomans demanded tributes from the Saadis and for them to recognize their authority over the Muslim world, and it's fair to say the Saadis were quite a nuissance for them in this regard. The title and thumbnail of the video is merely for sensation, and what some call the RUclips Game. Secondly, the last part of the video didnt imply the Saadis were about to compete with the Ottomans, rather that they were in the middle of 2 empires, and had to find a way to exist, which is why they expanded south, and even drew plans for a re-reconquista of the Iberian peninsula. As for your comment that we "despise the ottoman" we will not entertain it. We are muslims, and honor all muslims through history (we actually have an ottoman series in preparation)

    Great video, with alot of valuable historical informations, just for clarification at 10:22, the Saadi expansion into the Songhai Empire wasn't just about choosing a 'weaker' opponent due to pressure from the Ottomans and Spaniards. It was actually more strategic-because the Portuguese control of coastal cities in West Africa weakened the traditional trans-Saharan gold routes. The new Atlantic trading routes were diverting more and more gold away from the Sahara, pushing the Saadis to secure their own sources of wealth in the south. This adds important context to their motivations!"

      @oiiikkozzu5477 Месяц назад

      @@KILLER.KNIGHT The expedition faced significant challenges and, in hindsight, may seem like a costly or even reckless move. However, Sultan Ahmad al-Mansur’s decision to invade the Songhai Empire was shaped by a combination of economic pressures and the geopolitical realities of the time. With the trans-Saharan trade routes being increasingly undermined by Portuguese control of coastal West African ports, the Saadi dynasty felt compelled to secure new sources of wealth and power, which led to their push southward. In the broader context of al-Mansur's reign, his ambition was not just to stabilize his kingdom but also to project Morocco as a global power. It's also worth noting that he explored other strategic alliances, like the one with Queen Elizabeth I of England, in order to challenge Spanish dominance. Together, these moves highlight his attempt to position Morocco on the world stage, even though the Songhai campaign came with its own set of difficulties. So while the expedition may appear ill-advised, it was, at least in part, driven by larger economic and political considerations.
