The Queen of Poisons please. Wait! Cabaret Macabre had blood on the cover - on the top of the mask! I'm determined to mood read from my own bookshelves this October. I have some titles stacked by my bed as a priority, but the main goal is to read what I own. In a bit of a stretch, the book I just started, and will presumably still be reading when the month changes, I went out and bought yesterday. So yes, it's from my shelves, but only because I JUST put it there. It's Rewitched by Lucy Jane Wood. I'm excited about the books I've already chosen but I know my goal may crack if I spy any new titles at my library that I'm particularly excited to get my hands on.

💀Finally someone else who is going to be reading spooky/gothic books in October. I vote for The Queen of Poisons. I made an October/November TBR and there's 44 books on my list. I'm hoping to get at least 30 of them read. I'm participating in Spookopoly & Vampathon.

Loved the vlog :) I tried a letter to the luminous deep and I liked it but I wasn’t in the mood for a slow book and it was due back soon to the library. I keep meaning to check it back out but I might save it for next summer. 🖊️🖊️ I love light academia and I need to try more books within that category

I read Vampires of El Norte a few weeks ago. I liked it - super atmospheric and a quick read.

Firstly, it's CaRmilla, hard R, secondly, it's not "sapphic", people need to stop using that. There is ZERO evidence that she was a lesbian. In fact, she committed 'self deletion' after a MAN rejected her. The confusion, or wilful misinterpretation, comes from a love poem to a goddess, NOT another woman sorry, but that does my head in. Thirdly, it wasn't risky or edgy in its time. The reason Carmilla and Dracula are portrayed as having same sex relations is because it was considered abhorrent, disgusting, and the worst of society. It is not a book glorifying lesbian romance. The reader at the time was disgusted by her behaviour.
