Managing humidity in your Pu-erh tea storage
Просмотров 1,4 тыс.5 месяцев назад
Aging Pu-erh tea properly can be as easy as letting it rot in your closet, or actively extracting water daily. This year, we've acquired a new dehumidifier to control the water content in our cakes. But using it well is not that straightforward, here is an explanations of the dynamics at play. To store small quantities of tea at home, the best method is by far leaving the cakes in their origina...
Advanced tea processing concepts

I am cooking a batch of reddened Pu-erh tea. To get higher degree of oxidation, I let the leaves wither for over a day, this has implications on the next steps of the processing. The steps of tea processing are interlinked, I go into more detail about this connection in the video.

Here are my thoughts on how climate change will influence tea cultivation and what tools we have in Jingmai to mitigate it. For accurate information about climate change, check this website: www.ipcc.ch/ The reports are the most proofread scientific works ever made, they compile the work of thousands of people. You'll likely find the report very boring to read, but this is where the information...

Daytime rambling in the tea factory
Просмотров 2,1 тыс.9 месяцев назад
We rarely process pu-erh tea during the day, but this was our busiest time of the season, better to start early. More tea farmers came to deliver loads of fresh leaves, we finished work at 2am, not too bad thanks to good tea work! I hope you'll enjoy this aimless video, I am trying hard to keep you entertained while cooking a batch of fine leaves from an interesting garden. You can get the teas...

I swear, my friend, one day we'll get in contact to trade pressed teas. I'm going to adapt the concept of Pu'er and pressed teas to mate-herb and develop inovative products for brazilian and south american culture, willing to export some exclusive products to chinese market. I'm very serious about it.

It's funny to hear that the "new world" has no history, but I got your point, and we're just recently discovering the amount of history and culture here, especially with plants and medicinal plants. Yerba mate, guaraná and cocoa are great examples.

Amazon soil in Brasil is pure sand and very superficial - samaúma, one of the biggest trees in Amazon Forest, had to adapt to the soil and grow its roots to the sides, because there's no space to go down. The Forest itself was basically a giant agroforestry system cultivated and managed by native people, the indigenous black soil (or "terra preta de índio") is the result of hundreds or maybe thousands of years of work and dedication.

The ideal management would be to cut the branches in a way to place every part of wood touching the soil, right? Covered by green leaves and organic matter, to achieve a good balance between Carbon and Nitrogen in the soil, and even better if the material comes from different species of plants and trees. I'm in love with these tea gardens btw. Thanks for another great video!

Ernst Götsch's Syntropic Agriculture/Farming is a pretty interesting approach on regenerative agriculture and agroecology; it's an agriculture of proccesses, as he says. It requires no inputs unless the seeds you'll plant, only intense prunning and management with high diversity and density of plants, each one on its on stratum/layer or ideal height, creating a natural abundance that produces enough wood to improve the soil's texture and fertility. I'm pretty sure you must have seen and studied something about it already, but I felt the need to comment it here. 😁

I'm graduating on Public Administration, learning chinese and pretending to work with regenerative agroforestry systems for producing tea, coffee, cocoa, yerba mate, cannabis (in the future) and more. I have a considerable desire to spend some time in China learning to produce and proccess tea. Your videos are some kind of extra motivation for me. I hope we can get in contact and work together someday.

I'm the type of person that always want to prune the trees on a reachable height, but it's really nice to see tea trees growing tall in natural environment. Your vídeos are very interesting and relaxing, thanks a lot for this effort.

I'm really interested to know how these plants are today. Do you know if they have adopted any regenerative/syntropic farming practice? Or at least agroecological/sustainable practices.

I am enjoying every minute of your content, and it makes me want to China even more. I'm from South America and would really like to know how's the consumption of mate herb (yerba mate) in China. I'm used to drink it in chimarrão since I was 1 year old, it is my daily drink and I would love to find a way to produce some mate herb tea cake, adapting the anciente chinese art of tea to my reality. Do you think it is possible? And would a product like this have space in chinesae market?
