protein supplementation for whitetail deer
Nice video. I hunt 30 minutes west of Alexandria in the Kistachie National Forest and I never see bucks like that. Beautiful deer.
That looks great. Can we get an update after a growing season? Any advice on finding a logger to do a smaller section of acreage? We are also in Rapides parish.
Great video man those are some beauties
If you don't mind..what Parish are you in? I live in the western part of Rapides.
Rapides Parish as well. Rigolette. Happy to show you around if interested
@@farmandranchlife5075 I would definitely be interested in seeing your place. I enjoy seeing that type of stuff
Man…this is old school…feel like I’m watching Bob and Margret…from the old tree lounge videos….I watched them 100 times back in the 90s!
Not a lot of sizzle here. Doubt I'll ever attract sponsors. Don't have much camo, don't use scent control , no fancy editing, don't use buck on a bag products...Nothing much to advertise.Fortunately have some decent bucks to film. They are the stars as it should be.
High fence worthlessness.
Looks like my old stomping grounds when i was a kid. I was born in Pineville, LA
Rigolette actually :)
Is your land high fenced?
Just answered that on another reply. Between my neighbor and myself we have about 2500 acres under game fence. Best thing we ever did for the deer.
Is a game fence considered a high fence? How tall is it
Ok, I"m 54 and have hunted LA all my life, I've been blessed and have my own land now, like you in Central LA. I've never seen a buck like that in my life, let alone that calm in day light, not here in LA. You must have 1000's of acres, and under extremely intense management, and near hunting pressure or your high fenced and again have near zero hunting pressure. That video is more like Texas than LA. That aside I had hurricane Laura blow through my place as well, sustained winds over 100+ when she went through massive damage to my pine trees and every good mature hardwood tree along my creek bottoms was pushed over. However, I don't think the deer died, I think they moved out to surrounding areas, and just never came back. Do you have proof of a mass deer die off? I've talked to numerous people outside of the areas that were heavily impacted and they all say they saw a huge increase in deer sightings, and deer killed the season after Laura. They also said they saw a huge uptick in hog activity. Again, I think they just moved off. Your thoughts?
I'm certain deer died from Laura. We found dead deer with trees on them. As you have deduced between m y neighbor and myself we have a bit over 2500 acres under game fence. We keep pressure very low and are far more interested in seeing what we can grow vs shoot. After Laura the farm had a profound set back. Destroyed timber, deer herd greatly reduced. No acorns for 3 years from late freezes etc etc. The farm is just now recovering and we are starting to see high quality return . Be curious where you are? We are on the east side of the Red River and I'd be delighted to show you in detail what we do if interested. It's quite intense.
@@farmandranchlife5075 I appreciate the courtesy of the fast and detailed reply. I'm in no man's land in NW ALLEN Parish very near the allen, vernon and beuregard parish boundary. Deer don't stand a chance where I'm at, they are hunted year around but its where my place is so I do the best I can with what I've got. I wondered about a big deer die off but everyone I talked to said they move out and move off and them gradually come back over time. I thought that was crap and they probably bedded down and lot of them got crushed with falling trees and debris. You have confirmed that for me, and also the acorns, I wondered what happened there as well as the last 3 years have been very very different. Lastly, I appreciate the offer detail into your management, but owning a little land myself and managing, cutting timber, supplemental feeding, planting plots, etc., I know by your videos exactly what your doing and yes it is quite intense. Good job btw, your herd looks really good, those are some quality deer, and nothing against people that don't own their own land, but until you do and you are hands on with management, you just don't have any idea, the time, effort and money that goes into it. Congrats again on a outstanding herd, first class man, first class.
Very interesting info! We've recently implemented vetch food plots on our property in central Louisiana. Have you ever overseeded vetch with a fall plot (brassica and clover specifically)? Our thinking is that once the vetch is hit by a frost there will be a winter plot growing to take over. Is this a viable option in your opinion? For reference, our vetch is staying around ~10" tall as the deer are keeping it mowed down.
I don't overseed the vetch simply because I have enough acreage that it is not necessary. I do think you could broadcast small grains...wheat or oats...as well as crimson into the vetch early October. If your vetch is only about 10" tall rain should get the seed to the ground for germination. Come spring the crimson goes to seed early may. You could mow tight and the vetch should come up thru the thatch...that is if deer pressure is isn't to significant to keep the vetch from reseeding. That makes for a nice year round plot
nice bucks
lot of good looking bucks
nice buck pop that bad boy to much playing around on that camera
No camo no silly scent killer stuff just pure raw hunt
Beautiful buck brother!! What caliber are you using?
Its interesting that its mostly a wrestle match... they do not seem to be striking each other with mouths. I wonder how they determine who wins
Awesome discipline and patience..way more than i could😂😂 maby i missed it but what caliber did you shoot that 207 in buck with?
Thanks, I use a .270 hand loaded with 130 grain nosher partition bullets.
Yeah iphones are not high quality!
Awesome video Rusty! 2024-2025 should be another great year with all the rain they have had in that country so far. I'm sure looking forward to Old Mexico Deer season!!
I am amazed at the quality and number of deer you have been blessed to video and harvest. I was fortunate to hunt the South Texas King Ranch for a few years and never saw a single deer even close to the caliber of deer in your videos. Kudos to you!
Thanks. Interestingly I also hunted the King Ranch before I moved shop to Mexico. What a wonderful experience and I learned a lot. But I never saw a buck over 160".
where is this area at?
We are in Central La. Rapides Parish
Lesson Learned, I'm letting more bucks walk. Thank you for this info. Now I see what my bucks can grow into, That was a real eye opener Thank You...
Outstanding 8 point buck'. Congrats to you sir and thanks for sharing the very educational aging deer on the hoof to everyone folllowing you 9:29
That’s my sister!! Way to go Cathy!!
Dream bucks one right after the next! It's always a pleasure to watch your videos!
Love this video Rusty. Well done, as usual. Big Hello from Lafayette!
Thanks for sharing your videos, I’ll take a guess on the length of the buck G2 I’ll go with 14-3/8”😍
Awesome video of great bucks, I guess I might need to hunt with you to get my Booner. Keep up the great videos and thanks for getting the pump station excited in April.
That Aoudad is a freaking giant
Wonderful, keep the videos coming
Another great video Rusty, the number if world class bucks you caught on camera is staggering!!
Rusty thanks for sharing - I really look forward to seeing your videos. Your appreciation of what it takes for these deer to reach their full potential is recognized.
Awesome bucks. Talk about some healthy critters.
Thanks buddy awesome video
Great video Rusty!!!Your footage never disappoints , I look Forward to every thing you put on here for all to enjoy, thank you so much for all that you do!!
They look purdy good over all this year...
Fantastic deer and footage. God bless Webb County.
Great Bucks and great Management 👍🏻
Awesome to see all the cows going after the green. Definitely I’m glad you quit the glyphosate. It may be a forever chemical. Land looks great!
Great stuff! I hope there is a follow up
Very nice videos you have! Congrats! In which parish is this farm located if it can be disclosed?
Certainly. I'm inn Central La. Rapides Parish.
Enjoyed the video. Great Buck! Love a good shot with an excited hunter.
made a trip down to Cataula on my buddies place got one and will be going back
Few crazy things happened in this video which makes it great. 👍🏼. So the drop tine broke off when he hit the ground I guess? Then the tall narrow buck was dropped at the tree line, but was in the middle of the field when they walked up on him. Interesting how things transpired. Awesome video as always. Thanks for sharing
Very observant! Was crazy. The drop tine buck broke his drop thrashing around on the. ground. I suspect that side of his rack was weak for some reason....skeletal injury most likely. The narrow buck was a complete rodeo. I wasn't there and didn't film but it was big excitement for the couple that got him . think first shot took both front legs out . Obviously took a bit more before deer was safely in the truck.
Glad to see a new video Rusty! And good seeing you down in Mexico again and getting the chance to come over to Gato! Until next time amigo! Viva la Mexico!
Beautiful bucks as always Rusty!
Impressive work sir. Always enjoy your videos.
Thanks Rusty, great video. Waiting for the next one.
Great footage Rusty. It looked like there were some manure pats in the field, had you rotated the cattle on them? Also, how's the silvopasture project coming along?
Thanks for sharing always enjoy your videos. Quality game management.
