    1.36 ft/lbs/cube? Are you sure about those numbers? Not saying it's impossible, but even Edelbrock only advertises their RPM package as producing somewhere around 1.1, so you can see where one might be curious. And 1.33hp/cube, with a 228@.050 cam and peaking at that low of an rpm? I'd be double-checking the info on that one. Looks and sounds great though!

    Glad to see this build. 351M and 400 get ignored a lot for silly reasons. I knew a guy who did basic bolt ons and port work to a 351m and turned it into a beast. Sure its not 500 hp like todays wonder engines, but that thing really woke up with basic mods back in the day.

    I think the stock open chambered heads, and pistons being way to deep in the hole were the 2 factors that need addressed with this motor. After choosing a cam for your application this thing is a beast. I spent a lot of time and money trying to make these open chamber heads work, even a zero deck hight on my tm pistons I was still getting detonation. Ive had to run rich and turn my dizzy until no more knock. Ill be getting some aluminum heads as soon as possible.

  • @Selkirk69
    @Selkirk69 7 месяцев назад

    The power is good considering the cam is so mild. Probably a high teens/low twenties at .050 If a 230-236 cam had been used, HP would have been at least 410. Put on Edie heads and boom, 440-450.

    What intake did you use? And whats better your 381hp/475tq or 418hp/434tq (Edelbrock performance kit). Obviously I want the higher torque for my HighBoy 4x4, just don't get the difference in HP?

  • @EricMarsh-ob5qh
    @EricMarsh-ob5qh 7 месяцев назад

    The thing that's really funny about people out there that they don't know the difference between a big block and a small block there is 400 modified Big Blocks Ford also made a 400 small block 351 Cleveland 351 Windsor and 400 small blocks the 400 modified if you look on the side of the block has an m on the side of it that stands for the modified and it's a 400 modified that is a big block regardless I have two of them know exactly what I'm talking about I have built three of them in my lifetime they are very rare engines to find because most of them blew up

    • @faststang85
      @faststang85 6 месяцев назад

      They never made a big block 400 it was basically a 335 series tall deck sbf cleveland with a big block bell housing pattern except a few rare ones with both bell housing patterns the first year of production. Ford never made a 400 windsor either I think you need to lay off that good stuff.

    In my 1973 Gran Torino Sport i have 4bbl closed chambered cleveland heads on my 400, 4bbl spacer plates with a 4bbl cleveland offenhauser 360 degree dual port aluminum intake a holley 770 cfm street avenger carb a 560 lift 292 duration comp cam, solid lifters, double roller timing chain, and it's bored .040 over. I don't know what the horsepower and torque is but i have ran 13.4 in the quarter spinning the tires about half way through first gear, and my rear street tires are p295/50r15 with a 350 rearend gear. Boat anchor ? Yeah probably from the factory, but not with a setup like this.
