    Harley just killed themselves with the 2025 lowrider st huge price increase. That was the one bike that was attracting younger riders towards Harley. It was way too expensive in 2024, and to double down and increase the price in 2025, it just killed Harleys future. Game over clowns. When a 40 year old family man with a 6 figure wage and a wife with a 6 figure wage can't afford a lowrider st ... your company is effectively dead.

    Even if they continue to exist they are dead to me. As far as I'm concerned they died when they discontinued the Evo Sportster. When I started riding all my bikes were Japanese bikes under 1,000 CC. For the past 20 years I've been riding Harleys. The best bang for the buck was the Sportster. Now that they're gone I don't see anything worth buying from Harley. It's all just too big and too expensive. Now that I'm in my 50s it looks like it's time for me to go back to Japanese bikes under 10 grand and preferably under 500lb.

    • @ridingonabudget
      @ridingonabudget 4 дня назад

      Glad you shared your experience and commented. I would suggest you give Triumph a look before going back to Japanese bikes. I have ridden since I was 15 and I'm now 70. I absolutely love my T120 and think it was the best decision I have made. Affordable, easy to roll around the garage, I can flat foot it, and its only 500 lbs. Hope you will consider subscribing. I had an '09 Zx-14 for 11 years. I put 62,000 miles on it. In that time frame I replaced the chain and sprockets twice. The original set was replaced at 29,600 miles. The next replacement was at 53,600 miles. I could have gotten more life out of it, but at the tire change before that, I reassembled the rear wheel and got the chain a little too tight. A little too loose is better that a little too tight! The chain only got adjusted when I'd replace tires, or about every 7 to 9 thousand miles. FYI, Harbor Freight sells a small roller device to make lubing the chains easier on a bike with no center stand. It's a little awkward but does what it's supposed to. Park the bike on the rollers, let it rest on the side stand, put it in neutral, spin the tire by hand and lube away. Much easier than moving the bike ... less up and down.

    • @ridingonabudget
      @ridingonabudget 5 дней назад

      That's some awesome chain mileage! Did you do anything special as far as lube or cleaning? Good idea about the roller at HF. When I bought my T120 I had a center stand installed before I took it home. A center stand is worth every penny! Glad you shared your experience and commented. Hope you will consider subscribing. If you have any ideas for future videos please let me know.

      @@ridingonabudget I'm older and was less likely to stress (beat on) the bike like someone who is in their 20's. The first 4 or 5 years I owned that bike I took it on several cross country road trips. I always lubed the chain at the end of every day, while the chain was still warm. Then it could sit over night before starting out again the next morning. I usually used Maxima Chain Wax or occasionally the same PJ-1. At home, I would scrub it with a chain brush and kerosene when it got dirty. The first chain replacement, the one at 29,600 miles, was only 3 years-1 month after purchase. The zx-14 saw a lot of miles with ZERO issues! The seat from a Kawasaki Concours 14, a taller windscreen, a set of bar risers, a center stand, and I was good for some 6-700 mile days.

    • @ridingonabudget
      @ridingonabudget 5 дней назад

      You are sooo right. I was a little put off with the plastic fenders because they scream DisposaCycle. Just imagine if someone tries to recommission one of these in 20-40 years. The plastic fenders would be brittle and useless and there sure will not be replacement parts. I also agree the rear brake lever is too low and has no adjustment. I thought about finding a small rubber pedal and bolting it onto the existing pedal, but couldn't find anything suitable. Glad you shared your experience and commented. I have an use a Pit Bull. This is a rear stand that picks up the motorcycle using swingarm spools. The manual for the bike says to apply lubricant over the inside chain rollers. Their schedule is 600 miles between lubrication applications. I've been using Maxima chain wax. It seems to hold up very well. Chain wax, as you've stated, doesn't make the mess the old lubricants did. It also stays on the chain surface without attracting grime like the old lubes did. I've been cleaning the chain with kerosene. It does a good job of getting off the old lubes, grime and such without that much mess. I spray over the chain with an old baking pan under the chain to collect the mess. Takes about an hour to clean, let the chain dry and apply lubricant. My bike really needs the plastic chain guard moved to access the chain properly. Easy peasy.

    • @ridingonabudget
      @ridingonabudget 8 дней назад

      Bob that is an awesome chain maintenance schedule. How many miles do you typically get on a chain before replacement? How about miles between adjustments? Hope you found this video helpful.

    • @BobTaylorCruising
      @BobTaylorCruising 8 дней назад

      I've never had to replace a chain and sprocket set yet. The last motorcycle only had about 14,000 miles on it when I sold it. The chain was still good when I sold it. In the time that I had it, I think I adjusted the chain twice. Standardized slack adjustment - from my current Kawasaki motorcycle manual - says 10 to 20 mm of chain slack. Basically 1/2 inch or so. I don't run the bike hard and it's a street motorcycle. I'm not interested in the adventure bikes. I'm a street rider.

    I'm almost 65 and have ben riding since 1972. Lately I've been down sizing my rides. no more Goldwings, no more giant cruisers. I downsized my touring bike to a Kawasaki z900rs with luggage. This last fall, I decided against a heavy and expensive adventure bike in favor of a simple Suzuki DR650. It's basically the same bike it was when it came out in 1996. No ride modes, no traction control, no big computer screen... Big bikes have gotten way too expensive and feature loaded, and the large dealers have way too much overhead to cover with their massive $$$ showrooms. I drove 4 hours each way to a small dealer that offered honest sales people and good pricing when I bought my DR650.

    Harley Davidson is dead to me! It’s no different than the auto industry currently. When a motorcycle costs as much as an automobile, with an incredible depreciation factor, one would have to be crazy to make such purchases. As a male in his mid 50’s, I can honestly say I’ll never purchase a Harley Davidson motorcycle ever again. I’ll be spending my money elsewhere.

    • @ridingonabudget
      @ridingonabudget 10 дней назад

      It’s a sad situation isn’t it. I owned and rode Harleys for many years, but I can’t afford to keep doing that. I’d love to see Harley turn around but with their current leadership there is little chance of that. Hope you enjoyed the video and will consider subscribing.

    Harley-Davidson's biggest problem is giving us the same bikes with little improvements for a premium price. The value isn't there. I would rather get a Challenger or a K1600 as a touring bike. Both are better and costs equal to or less than a road glide or street glide.

    • @ridingonabudget

    You said, Jochem Zeitz forced dealers to build huge buildings. Hell no he did not! That directive came a few CEO's before him. Zeitz was moved to CEO when Levitich was fired and the Harley sales had already been well into its decline.

    • @ridingonabudget
      @ridingonabudget 11 дней назад

      You are correct! I found an article published in 2024 that said the policy existed over the last decade. I missed the fact that Levatich was let go in 2019/2020. My apologies for my mistake. However, that policy does not seem to have been rescinded by the current administration. As a long time Harley rider and HOG club member it deeply saddens me to see that our historic, America First company has declined. But, I believe the point I was making in the video is still valid. HD leadership focused on producing the fewest bikes for the highest profits and ignored the loyal Harley riders in order to maximize short term profits. I did not mention in the video that the current CEO dropped the Dyna and Evo Sportster (both two of the most popular and affordable models in the lineup). I tried to buy a one of the new Sportster last year but just didn't have the money to pay the $18-20,000 asking price. Thanks for commenting and helping to keep my content accurate. I noticed you handle is cb750 1974 is that what you ride? I rode a CB 450 all thru high school and college. My riding buddy had a cb750 and it was an awesome bike. Ride safe and we will see ya down the road.

    Great video. It would be interesting to hear your take on what happens to motorcycles in a world of self driving cars. Do governments pull our driver's licenses and not allow human operated vehicles on the road? Might be outside of your wheelhouse given your age, but that's something I've been thinking about.

      Great idea. I’m up on electric vehicles and will soon be including electric motorcycles on the channel. I’ll work on a factual report about the issues they pose to us. One of the things that concerns me is the EV mandate that is in place in England. Our new President will repeal the mandate in the US so we don't have to worry about being pushed into electric bikes. But the rest of the world may have an issue staying on an ICE bike.

    My current ride is a Kawasaki Vulcan S. I'm a returning rider at 67 years old and a decades long hiatus. Right now Triumph, Honda and Royal Enfield seem to be making motorcycles that were directed at new riders such as I haven't seen in a long time. I am more comfortable on a middleweight motorcycle as it's fairly stable and smooth in wind and at speed. I do some high speed interstates, so that is a requirement. The singles from Triumph and RE and the 450 cc twins from Kawasaki make me wonder if those might have been a reasonable choice. The point is moot as none of these were on the market when I bought my 2023 Kawi. I do remember a friend riding a Honda CB360 twin when I was in High School back in the 1970's (I graduated in 1976).

    • @ridingonabudget
      @ridingonabudget 12 дней назад

      Glad to see you are still on two wheels. I'm 70 years old and have been riding since I was 15. My channel pretty much focuses on us older riders who are trying to stay in the saddle as long as we can. I bought a Triumph T120 in 2024 after selling my 1600 Yamaha Road Star cruiser (700lbs). The T120 (500 lbs) is about the size of the Honda CB450 I rode through high school and college, but its 1200cc with a lot more power. It also is much easier to ride than the big Yamaha. Based on what I have seen in my lifetime, it seems that motorcycle sales are somewhat cyclical. Booming in one decade, crashing in others. But when our young people only have a limited time to observe the industry it can appear that it is on a path of total extinction. But when one considers decades of the industry they realize it will never totally die out. Thanks for the great comment and subscribing! If you have any requests for particular content please let me know, I'm always looking for good video ideas from our subscribers.

    I do that every time, even on my digital one but I’m not sure if it matters with those.

      I think it may depend on the internal mechanism that actually measures the torque. Torque wrench history and design is a pretty deep rabbit hole. I considered doing a full video on torque wrenches, but honestly there is already some pretty good torque wretch content on You Tube. Glad you enjoyed the short and hope you will subscribe to the channel. Lots of good stuff coming this year.

    Right on Bro!! I’m Mike I’m 65 years old! And I’m like you , I’ve been riding my Excelsior Henderson for years, 750 pounds, last year I bought my 2024 T 120 DGR Edition, I absolutely love it !! Lighter and more nimble! 👍🏼

      I smile every time I roll my T120 out of the garage and don't have to take a break to recover from the effort. As we all get older it gets harder to swing your right leg over a high seat. But the mid-pegs of the Triumph make it simple to stand up while the bike is on the side stand and swing a leg over. I just added a Madstad windshield and it is a huge improvement. Check out the video that shows the installation process. ruclips.net/video/LxoIlK8iMjk/видео.html I'm planning on adding a hard top box next. Love my Triumph!

    Okay so you completely missed the part where you tell us WHAT DO WE TIGHTEN FIRST after the new sprocket is on. Chain tensioner nuts or axle? Literally the most important part.

    • @ridingonabudget
      @ridingonabudget 18 дней назад

      You adjust the chain tensioners first, check the chain tension, then when the tension is correct tighten the axle nut. Recheck the chain tension and you are done. I am going to do a follow up video that shows have to check and set the chain tension. So please subscribe so you see it when it comes out.

    torque wrench to zero is NOT the way to teach... Wrench i set to LOWEST SETTING after work, some wrenches do not start at zero. Never lower than lowest setting, otherwise the internals of the wrench might get dislodged. Great video though !!!

    • @ridingonabudget
      @ridingonabudget 22 дня назад

      Great way to state that. Much more accurate to say "Lowest Setting". I just bought a new Craftsman torque wrench and will make that correction on the next video we make.

    I have the same bike, same color, and the same windshield. I had to play around with the adjustments on mine a bit to get it just right. I like it really low for around town 35 to 45 ish mph. And all the way up for extended highway riding. Your gonna love that windshield.

    Great video that captures the nature of the event very well. I've been going to that since the days Ray Fagan was staging it and this was the largest number attending that I've seen. Perfect weather, sunny skies and 60's temps helped. Thanks, Tom.

    I'm located in MS on the Alabama border. I'm 71 myself. I'm currently in the "exchanging emails" status of trying to purchase a new T120 from D&D. I've owned multiple Harleys and my current Road King at 800 plus pounds is way too heavy to suit me at this stage of my life. I've been riding my entire adult life and the Bonneville is exactly what I need right now. Anyone who complains about their midsize bike feeling too heavy needs to throw a leg over my RK for some perspective. I'm convinced the T120 will be my last bike. Anyway, I'd like your opinion on D&D's integrity and fair dealing on bikes, if you've done any business with them. Thanks for the review! Maybe we'll meet each other on one of our rides on the coast. regards, Ken

      I pretty much made the same decision. I have been riding all my life and have had 5 Harleys, including a Road King, Hondas (Goldwing), Yamahas (Venture Royale and Road Star -700lbs) BMW, and 2 Norton Commandos. I almost dropped the Road Star and pulled a groin muscle in the process. That's when I made up my mind that something would have to change or my riding days were over. I had ridden the T120 several years ago and it reminded me of my Honda CB 450 that I rode during high school and college. At just over 500 lbs and with plenty of power it was a perfect bike for us older guys. I looked at all the mid size bikes that the dealers had, Honda Rebel, Harley Sportster, Kawasaki Eliminator, Suzuki Cruiser, and finally stopped at D&D. D&D is a family owned shop and operates like it. You don't get the game playing like you get at one of those corporate dealers. Like at the Harley dealer where they wanted to charge 30% interest on a $20K Sportster. The price D&D quoted was the price I paid, the deal was straight forward and I didn't feel like I was getting screwed by a used car dealer. Of all the motorcycle dealers in our area Id have to say I would trust D&D way above any of the corporate dealerships. Don't wait any longer you will absolutely love the T120. I added a center stand when I bought mine. D&D sold it to me at cost and installed it for free. They will install accessories for free when you first take delivery. Not gonna get a deal like that anywhere else. Glad you like the video, hope you will consider subscribing.

    I just happened to run across your video at a perfect time. I'm having an issue with the bars hitting my legs when I make tight slow turns. You mentioned your bike had 4-inch risers. I was wondering if you believe that would solve the issue. It would be a lot easier than shortening my legs 4 inches. I'm really hoping to keep the beach bar feeling that the stock bars have.

    • @ridingonabudget
      @ridingonabudget Месяц назад

      Did you try rotating the bars upward in the stock clamp? Obtaining accessories for the Yamaha cruisers is getting more difficult. You may have a problem actually finding a set of risers of any kind. They were installed on my bike when I bought it, so I cant shed any light on doing that project. Glad the video was helpful, hope you will consider subscribing.
