Thanks for clearly stating what to do Brian. I'm working on a 1981 CT70 & going thru the steps why this motor doesn't have compression. As you know, sometimes it is a valve adjustment first before making harsh decisions that it is the motor. Thanks, (Wildman RG3)
Love your videos they are very detailed

Best video ever🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉great details
@@jmiller3659 Thanks! 🙏🏻
😂 Thank you! I totally looked at my manual last night and had an anxiety attack looking at ring orientation!
@@jamesbarber6165 Ha! I completely understand!!
Dam. Video made 3 years ago… it was 4-5 years ago when I had no clue what I was doing and struggled for about 2 weeks 🤦. This video would have saved me lol
@@JaneHendrix-m5l Better late than never!
@@brian.d.mobleynot really.. I think the kit probably got better too. Back then, I found a forum with some guy showing how to modify the kit to work with some of the oem parts. That’s what I ended up doing and years later, it’s still running great.
Excellent video . keep it up.
Was just wondering what kind of disc brakes you threw on that thing?? Pretty sweet build man hope to get an answer!
Does anybody know if it's possible to remove the left side crankcase cover to get to the counter shaft without disassembling the right side Ancillary parts(clutch, Kickstarter)?
When messing with the countershaft, did you see any lateral play there? I bought a cr85 used recently. There is 2-3mm of play on the shaft(not the sprocket). I am assuming a washer was kisses during reassembling. Have ordered every washer for the countershaft, but I'm wondering if you encountered that before i solit her open.
Awesome idea! I did this job with a friend and they have moved outta state. This will help me do the job by myself! We ended up cutting a slot out of a deep socket if you have extras.
@@MaffeiKris A socket is a great option too. Good thinking!
Thanks! We just didn’t use C clamps LOL…C clamp seems much better than what we did

i see what you mean it looks like its melted into the plastics no edges very nice!

quick update: im almost done and as you said careful with heat i made some mistake got a little too hot and soft i damaged it with a squeege but for my 1st time it turned out amazing! thanks again.👍
@ 5:54 you state the flywheel will exhibit little resistance when the marks are aligned. However on my 71 the resistance comes when it isn’t aligned, do you have any advice regarding that? Thanks
Thank you for sharing this video, I am about to attempt to rebuild one of these so this definitely helped.
@@billymartinez4750 Absolutely! Hope it helps!
youre a lifesaver my dude
@@salvo7288 Glad to help!
@@brian.d.mobley if youre able to answer, my rings sit out a bit from my piston, i assume this is normal as theyll be compressed inside the jug but are they supposed to sit out from the piston or are they supposed to be compressed tight once put on?
@@salvo7288 That’s correct. Yes!
@@brian.d.mobley ok perfect. thank you very much 😁
@@salvo7288 Sure! Be careful compressing those rings. Use plenty of oil and don’t force them into the cylinder. If you look up my KLX engine build video, I discuss how to do it

You can always just read the Honda service manual. Can’t go wrong following the manufacturers recommendations.
Hell yea Man I’ve rebuilt my bike thanks to your videos
So glad to read that! I need to make some more! I’ve been so busy with other things this year! Thanks for watching!
This is the most concise and accurate oil change video I’ve seen yet for the ct-70! Ty for including the torque spec! I’m like you I love changing the oil earlier than later ..
Agree! I bought a plane recently and I’m changing the oil at about 30% of the manufacturers recommended change interval. Can’t hurt! Thanks for watching!
@@brian.d.mobley it most certainly cannot hurt anything! Also give you clues as to how it’s running also . Congratulations on the newly acquired plane !!
@@chadriddle3517 Thanks! Turns out learning to fly is WAY more time consuming than I expected! The amount of study required is really overwhelming.
Is it possible to get tension on the kickstart spring without taking the clutch basket out?
19:24 I thought that ramp was the slipper clutch mechanism?
My cr125 02 is a pain doing a full rebuild the left cogs seem to stay still in my hand when turning the right ones no matter what gear I’m in and can inly seem to count 4 gears before the shift drums stops turning
I’m wanting to do this on my cr125. They sell different size containers for the cerakote. 4oz, 1 pint, quart and gallon. 4 oz probably not enough? Thinking 1 pint but would have a lot of leftover.
The little tester size goes a LONG way. That’s the size I find myself buying most often. Thanks for watching!
@@brian.d.mobley i got replies from the Honda cr fb page and most have said half of the tester bottle would be enough to do the pipe also. Thanks for replying.
@@zachdavis2641 I agree. And the shelf life is not that long, so you can’t really save money by purchasing larger quantities because it expires so quickly.
@@brian.d.mobley great. Good to know
what size are the bolts ? are the two forwardmost footpeg mount bolts that are shared with the skid plate the same length as the two rearward bolt that soley hold the footpeg stand to the bike?
@15:36 why not just use a crow's foot and do the math for the torque? just wondering since i'm about to do my first top end.
@@757machinist I’m not familiar with a crows foot. But if you feel you can do it differently and get the same torque spec, feel free!
@@brian.d.mobley gotcha just figured I’d ask! Thanks for the quick response!
@@757machinist Absolutely! Have fun on your top end job.
Just got my plastic in last week and my decals arrived a few days ago. I probably have a little time this afternoon to do some of this. Thank you for the video. I used to tint windows and the technique is similar. I appreciate you taking the time to show that You must be patient, and if you are, the results will be phenomenal. Good day, sir.
@@immusicman You can do it!
You just saved me $250!! thankyou , no one else described all the differnt ways to do it.
Hi.. Nice video, your tip 17:51works on a 1995 cr125r?
I’m not specifically aware of any unique difference between a 1995 CR125 and other bikes, so I would just suggest to use your judgement. At that point in the video, nothing controversial was being shown.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks.
First off great job on all your videos!! Youve helped a ton...Second, have you any idea why my clone 70cc semi auto just shifts in circles? 4 down but if in 4th you can hit down again into 1st right over neutral, about fliped over the bars at speed, no fun. Took off clutch and took a good look at shift spindle, star, and the lever riding it, nothing obviously wrong...
I’m sorry. I don’t work on clone motors. I really don’t know enough to comment.
Hey what on the inside of the rotor makes the points open and close? I saw where something might have been at one point close to the keyway. Any video or pictures would help out alot, its a CT70 with the Hitachi ignition.
theres a cam lobe that opens and closes the points
How did you get out that shift drum bearing? I need to replace mine. Thanks
Many manufacturers consider that to be a “non serviceable” bearing. In order words, if it needs replacement, the entire case half must be replaced. It normally won’t wear out. I have removed them with a blind bearing puller, but now I usually leave them alone.
@@brian.d.mobley thanks. I had to buy a used case and the bearings don't feel good and I have new bearings so I may try to replace that one too.
❤
Thanks
hi ! Should the oil level be measured with the motorcycle upright or tilted on its stand? bye
I’m assuming you didn’t watch the video as that question is covered in the first two minutes.
what about adjustment after it's all together?
Hi. It’s a semi automatic clutch so it’s non adjustable post assembly.
@@brian.d.mobley well is there a intial setting, do i just turn it until i can feel it touching the part the three steel balls ride on, then lock it in place?
Great job on the shock looks Amazing now. I was thinking. how are you going to get the shock adjuster on your shock when you built the shock.
Haha. Well I did get that wrong initially, but as the video shows, that mistake was addressed and rectified.
@@brian.d.mobley I know you fixed the mistake in 18 minutes. I was taking my shock apart to clean it today but cant take the shock adjuster off to clean. I will have to strip the shock down to do that. So your video is Amazing on how to strip the shock right down. Thank you for this video. You have save me sending the shock off to be rebuilt.
SO glad it helped! That was an early video and was a little clumsy compared to my newer work. So glad it saved you some trouble!
Damn I got a 1974 CT-70, can I send in the motor and have T Bolt rebuild it?
I don’t think they rebuild motors. Look up SoCalMinitrail on Instagram. They may be able to help.
What I like about your videos are how you have your mistakes. You’re lucky to have sponsors so you get high quality parts. My pit bike has been a challenge since I lost both legs. I’m working on how to shift and my back break. I have 4 things I’m going to try. I bought a heel/toe shifter, an adjustable heel/toe, the stock one and a 14” hand shifter. The back brake doesn’t have a mount for a drum or disc on that swing arm. Also there are no directions. So yeah I’m watching your video again.
Great Video. Keep the XR bike videos coming!
Thank you. I’ve gotten side tracked a little bit lately working on my Private Pilots License. I had no idea how all encompassing it would be! Thanks for watching.
Excellent video.
Glad you liked it! It’s an early one and I was pretty inexperienced with videography back then.
When setting the timing, my flywheel moves ever so slightly off of T when letting go of flywheel. Is that a problem? Piston stays at tdc when it does.
Hi Zach. That is totally normal and usually due to cylinder pressure. Good question!
@@brian.d.mobley thanks for quick reply
@@zachdavis2641 My pleasure!
@@brian.d.mobley another quick question. Should have asked with original question. Do I need to hold the flywheel at T while timing? Or just let the flywheel settle out of t position then set cam gear?
do i have to use a torque wrench and if i don't what could happen
@@burstable252 It’s a free country, so you don’t have to. I’ll just say that if you don’t want to do the job as recommended by the manufacturer, you’re risking the reliability of your repair.
@@brian.d.mobley oh ok thanks

I bought my son a 1994 Kawasaki KX80 and the shifter will not install correctly (I'm sure it's something that I'm doing incorrectly). I install it and it won't shift easily because it either hits the frame or the case of the stator/flywheel. Any ideas?
It’s really had to say without having the bike in front of me, but my instinct suggests that a non OEM shift lever is being used.
Excellent
Thank you! Cheers!

What oil did you out in the gearbox?
I use Honda OEM spec transmission fluid. amzn.to/3Wwn9MZ
My head has a little scoring on it, is it still okay to re use
It’s really not possible for me to say without having the head in my possession for evaluation. If you’re unsure, take it to a motorcycle dealership and have it evaluated by an experienced mechanic.
