I use the Merlin bird app to identify the birds in my yard
I've had one recently in North Central Florida.
I have a nest on my porch and have watched 4 broods so far. They’re so fascinating
Thank you so much! I needed this video. I found a baby mockingbird in my yard and wasn’t sure what to do. I saw its’ parents hovering over but was not sure what was going on. This video was educational and fun to way. Thanks again! ❤
That's cool how you see so many during their migration! We're super lucky in a different way, to have one pair nesting right in our front yard. ruclips.net/video/_ZEP4a2qtVw/видео.html
We live in Vermont, where they are among the latest birds to return in the spring (middle of May) and when we see more than one male at a time there is always an intense battle. Our pair have apparently been nesting in the same exact spot for at least three years. This year's nest had four eggs in it, and as of today two of them are not eggs anymore - they are the most fragile looking infants I have ever seen.
It’s so awesome you get them for breeding season! We miss out on that🫤
Querequeque actual common name of Antiliean nighthawk
I had one show up here in Toledo this morning. It's been singing all day. I've been here for 13 years and never had one before. Proof positive that converting close to an acre back to a native prairie works. Build it and they will come!
Native plants species are so important to attract wildlife
Oh yes if you build it they will come!!😊 I did a huge garden project to attract wildlife and it has so far been a success!
Thank you for this informative video! I just identified 3 mockingbird fledglings in my rose bush in Louisiana and needed more info on them. Great video.
So glad you found my video and you were able get some more info on their fledglings! They are such little cutie patooties ❤️
I believe you heard it!
I definitely did hear it 😄😄😉😉😉 it was the craziest experience ever seeing and hearing that fallout that night 😎
During summer, don’t forget to give them water to drink, not just food. Our mockingbirds drink more than they eat in summer.
I have noticed mockingbirds visit my bird bath and get water quite frequently as well!
We have a mockingbird couple in our front yard. They dive bomb us when we get too close to their nest. They are very vocal and sing and chirp all day long.
These guys are so funny to watch! They have so much personality!
Great video I love green cay!
Yes it’s a great birding spot!
I am in Ontario Canada and saw him a few days ago…
Interesting that there get up that’s far north!
I live in southeast Oklahoma and get an annual visit from kites every spring
Migration time? I get them spring and fall usually ❤️ they nest a little north of me in summer.
Love the mockingbird!
Awesome. .thank you ❤❤❤❤
Great video on the summer tanager. There has been one around here recently. Many times he is singing nearby...but always just out of sight. Really hoping to get a good look at him soon.
Such a beautiful bird! I hope you get some pics!
They do look like a tiny parrot/escaped pet - I'm glad you said it because I've always thought that. Right out of the crayon box SO true! I have sooo many of these around this time of year...so fun to listen to....but gosh they're so tiny they're hard to for me to locate in the trees. The males really do fuss with eachother. Thanks for a great bunting video!
Thanks!! Mine are all gone for summer but will return usually around October November ❤️ and yes they look just like a crayon box 😄😄😄
I have anesting pair in my yard ,,they are very tolerant of me 😂😂😂,, they nester in my bush and were succesful the fist set in march,,, they try 2 more times but failed,,,they were feeding the babies suet from my woodpecker feeder,,, they always disappear aFterdone with nesting 😮😮 see you next spring mr mockingbird bird ❤❤❤❤
I like them. Especially in the evening, when all else is quiet.
Definitely I like watching them with their babies ❤️
How do animals do so well in bougainvillea? I see lizards and birds among those thorns, that never seem to poke them!
I always wonder the same thing!
I think it bothers them, but it is also a protection for them, so it is something they tolerate.
Thanks Michelle!
Mocking birds stay at the far end of my lawn- pecking at insects. I don’t see them going for the nuts and berries in the bowls.
I’ve notice in winter mine grab raisins, and in summer they eat those little red seeds from the bitter melon vine.
@@FloridaKeysBirding That’s helpful! Is bitter melon the annual vine with little squash type flowers?
Michelle! Excitement with the flycatchers! A baby flew out of the nest, which caused the parents to follow it in the bamboo and fight off the jays that tried to get close. I saw both flycatchers tumbling through the air with the blue jay. They were gone about 10 minutes while I stood about 8 feet below the baby. I could also hear another baby in the nest! When they came back (without the jay), they sat with the baby and I went into the house. 5 minutes later they were gone, all was quiet . It’s was getting dark. I hope they are all in the tree nest!
@@cherylj7460 yes that’s what mine look like. It’s super invasive here in south Florida it takes over! But the birds love those red seeds it makes!
@@cherylj7460 I bet they are protecting that baby! I’ve heard blue jays can be predatory to babies and eggs.
Just saw one on my railing in my backyard. I am so thankful for this educational video.
Thanks so much! I’m so glad it was helpful ❤️☺️
I have an owl nesting box and today saw a couple of this bird bringing material ❤❤❤ i have seem them but not sure how tolerant of humans they are...i am in orlando
That’s so awesome! You’ll have to let me know if you get babies! I’ve got screech owls that don’t seem to like people too Much 😄
been seeing many here in tampa/st. pete lately, in the last memorial day week, could it be a later migration perhaps due to the crazy cold fronts we had this year?
Swallow tailed kites start migrating very early as early as February, but some do show up late! Also you may be seeing some more around your area because maybe they looking for a nesting site. I saw one in late April near tampa when I was visiting ft desoto.
How long do the parents feed the fledging for? The baby has been fledging for about a week but he still squirms for food 😊?
They will beg for food as long as possible until parents make them look for their own. Similar to our own children😂
Thanks for the great video! I just observed a baby mocking bird falling/flying out of the nest, and he was the second of two. Oh how busy those two parents became keeping track of and feeding two. Your video reassured me that at this stage of no or little flight, they’ve “got it” and are figuring it out. Your presentation was informative and delightful!
So great to hear! Yes it can definitely be distressing to see a baby bird falling and wondering if they will be ok or need help! But in this case the parents are almost always close by watching that baby❤️
The laughing gull is so funny😂
They must love me because they always visit in my backyard when I'm outside lol
They probably think your are awesome😎 but I bet your yard has a nice food source as well😏
@@FloridaKeysBirding hahaha I did! But, we just had a bad storm and my tree that they were living in fell :( Great informative video though!
These birds are so fun to watch when we see them at Lassen Volcanic National Park. Great video! New subscriber here ✨
Thanks!! The spotted sandpiper is such a silly little guy😄 I love watching them as well 😂
I love how you call them Mom and Dad 🥰
☺️☺️🥰🥰
Great video!! Did you say nesting in late winter I’m in Florida? they are nesting now some fledging now:) around my yard:) just read it’s also spring? Maybe yours are winter babies 😆
Thanks I appreciate it!! So yes in a general sense it’s spring but breeding season starts here in south Florida as early as February (late winter) to early spring. We get babies very very early. Spring of course is when things really heat up but we have babies fledging by march/April even at times down here.
@Karina-nc6uj late winter like February/march, and they continue into spring and summer. I’ve seen babies very early in the keys.
So that’s where all the information is located!
Yes ma’am 😉 that’s where to find all the bird info!
A couple of years ago, I had a male hang around my backyard feeder for a month, starting just after Christmas. Saw a female once the following Spring. This was in coastal NC (Havelock). I reported them to Cornell. Got unbelievable video of the male on my window feeder with a GoPro just inside the window!
Wow that’s late for them to stay! We have them in south Fl always by that time.
Question I have babies about 10 feet up in a tree how will the leave the nest if they can’t fly?? Won’t they get hurt??
They hop around and flap on branches until they can fully fly. Parents stay with their babies for quite a while too and feed them until they get up to par.
Loved this video. Looking forward to see more. Awesome... Full watched.
Thanks so much!!
I like this! I like to see how the birds open different seeds.
Makes sense- they are storm predictors. Did you ever see ducks in a hurricane? They love it. They do water ballet!
I bet they do get stuck in storms, but we don’t really get many ducks in the keys. I’ve never actually seen on down here!
Half-spotted sandpiper! Dancing alone…💃🏻 fancy dance bobbing!
Yeessss I love it !!!😂😂😂🤣🤣
I’m watching a pair build their nest- 15 ft from my busy garden! I identified this bird by their crest! It’s always fluffed! Maybe it’s one sex that fluffs a lot. My first impression is that they’re friendly! They just seemed to be always near. I put some corn husks out for their nest build.
That's great maybe the ones near you are used to seeing people and more friendly. The ones by me fly off as soon as they see me! lol ide love to see some babies I bet they are so cute!
@@FloridaKeysBirding oh yeah! They don’t mind people at all! I worry. There is roof access to this cavity in the golden rain tree. (Koelreuteria) There is a cat in the area. Is it common for the pair of birds to live elsewhere while they build? They seem to have bankers hours!🤣
@@FloridaKeysBirding one creature that runs from me is an orange head agama…or agana. He’s possessed a tree in my yard. It’s interesting how they started down there in the keys, I’m in Fort Pierce! Have they taken over down there? Did they wipe out the native lizards or was that just a failed prediction?
@@cherylj7460 we still have native green anoles , you don’t see them as much though. I actually don’t see agamas as much as I see curly tails and brown anoles. Green iguanas are everywhere we already know lol I like the lizards too though 😄 I have a few videos on them😄
@@cherylj7460 that’s funny! The nesting flycatchers I saw had their babies I did the nest and the parents would go in and out looking for food and feeding the babies.
Fascinating you would report from Key West. It's my favorite bird here in western Michigan. Audio seemed to include a dispute or warning!!! Thank you Deborah😊
Yes it's crazy how they make it this far south!
hi, I didn't see them in the map in south america. specially in Colombia. they arrive there in a significant amount of them.
Thanks for letting me know! I wonder why ebird doesnt have them on the map down there?
Nice video
thanks! :)
What is the black roundish bird that pursued the frigate?
It was a red winged blackbird
Big Cypress is a preserve not a national park .A national park has lots of restrictions & rules preserves don't . I know this area well I use to stay on Loop Road for years which is near to Monument lake on its north end . I film a lot of stuff in area including birds & some things u just have to be out there long enough to know how to find .
Hmmm that’s interesting because the website says it’s apart of the national park service so it’s easy to get that confused…but regardless that was not the purpose of the video to differentiate how the area is managed…The purpose was for birding.
Wow we just seen the buntings here in our yard never seen any prior to now we actually have 3 2 male one female right now not banded we are in Lehigh acres Florida
That’s awesome! They are definitely on the move! Especially through southwest Florida right now!
We just had triplets born in our front yard bush. Pretty cool birds
Yes! Every summer mine bring their babies to my yard❤️ some yrs we have between 3-5
Nice views..i am in orlando and get to see many of those in my yard 😂❤
Thanks!! Yeah We don’t have any of those wood peckers in the keys except red bellies, maybe a yellow bellied sapsucker during winter, and the occasional downy 🫤 It’s crazy how many mainland birds we don’t have! Only cool thing about here is we tend to get rare neotropical migrants and we sometimes Caribbean birds and parrots. When I lived in Orlando we definitely did have different birds!
Can't wait until we see them again at our feeders this Spring. We had never seen them before until a few years ago. Now when May rolls around, here in New Jersey, we look forward to seeing them and the Ruby Throated Humming birds at our feeders !
