My Best 9 Box Class Combo - Teek TLP Everquest
Good
I am raw dogging 4 computers 4 mice and 4 keyboard set up. I need some technology in my life
people are still using macroquest on truebox server all the time
For sure, I have a lot of videos for that too if you're looking for that.
THJ is my only EQ playable server! It rocks.
THJ mention! Don’t forget to buy from your local Bespoke Bowyer!
convergence is a 64box server
Thank you, that would make sense lol.
@@vanman2099 It looks like youtube might have eaten my other comment. I'm one of the devs for THJ, and if you'd like to have a Q&A or even interview about THJ, feel free to reach out.
@@enneract9 Thank you, definitely a possibility down the road, I should probably play on it a bit more first.
THJ is amazing been playing a few weeks and am having a blast trying out all the different specs
What about TAKP?
www.eqemulator.org/index.php?pageid=serverinfo&worldid=1557 are you referring to this server? I didn't include it due to lower population but it might have made it to like B category
@vanman2099 Yes that one, thanks. They had a high pop until Quarm launched. Worth mentioning that TAKP is launching a TLP server on Jan 1st.
@ I will most likely update this mid year or so for sure
THJ, s tier
THJ is such a literal game changer for me that I dont think ill ever go back to any other live or official server. Its the most fun Ive had on eq since 2004, really glad you included it in the list.
Is there even a rp server?
@@CrystalPrelude firionia vie is role playing preferred
IMO no, I am an older gamer and games like EQ just are too much of a grind and time sink. There are better things to do. I would hope future games offer depth and complexity without disrespecting the end users time. I myself box just to be able to progress in a meaningful progression.
Can't believe you left off the upcoming TAKP TLP emulator server starting on Jan 1.
THJ! so fun! I think it hit 3k players yesterday and that is no boxing.
PSA - Takp is launching a fresh start server Classic-Pop January 1st 2025. The server will have a 2 box limit and no modern QoL. (sorta of like p99) Expansions will be 6 months. Takp has orginal Bazaar and is an older client then even p99. The Takp TLP as they are calling it will eventually be rolled over to the main server (3box) and the idea is to start a fresh again after that point. (sorta like p99 said they would do with P99 green but remains to be seen) Additionally on Agnaar, this server is no more dead then p99 blue. Really the low lvl grind is empty from 1-50 because most of the people on these servers are raid logging and have all the characters they want max level. On Agnaar there are grps normally daily 50+ and there are a couple very active raiding guilds. It is a PoP/LDoN locked server that has been out a long time but the people that play there are kind and helpful. The people that play on these 2 servers are very committed and for that reason there will always be raiding, but your leveling experience will be rough. (moreso on p99blue since it is single boxed, where Agnaar is truebox)
Thanks for info, I was unable to track any type of significant population on agnarr over the period this video was collected in, I will take a look at the takp server once it's out for a bit to see what type of success it's having.
Thank you so much for educating me about the hero's journey!❤❤ I have an addiction to playing multiple classes but at the same time I don't want to play multiple accounts. I only do it because groups falling apart is retarded Maybe personas could always be at least 50% of the main character as well as receiving a 100% experience bonus
Oakwynd I'm very curious what the devs will remember they said about making Legacy servers connected. It also stands to be the server that offers the most exp and fastest AA and most Loot. This means down the road any new players will probably like to go to this server just because they have the best chance of catching up and it also facilitates people like me who only want to grind a little bit and then not grind anymore It's going to have a weird economy but that just makes other solid economy servers stand out in their own way.
My live server Cazic Thule. Have some pretty chill people that are helpful and at least 2 raid guilds
I think I'm going to work on grinding Epics again on live. Teek was fun but fell off soon as my wife lost interest. So many items i didnt know existed. Got a dagger on my ranger that turned me into a wolf.
I play on "The Heroes Journey" and wouldn't play anywhere else. This server will surpass live servers in population and fun.
Tunare is rocking tbh, the economy is fkd but there are a lot of people
Quarm deserves to be in S tier, it has a high pop than p99G consistently.
I think the main reason Quarm isnt considered S tier is likely the amount of liberties taken by Secrets with loot abundance. Holiday events for example where raid gear from the previous raid content, peggy cloaks, and numorus other previous expansion items drop. I sometimes refer to Quarm as the Oprah server because everybody gets everything. Though that maybe fun for some, especially casual players, a large portion of players also do not like that. Personally I played on PQ for a while but left because I just don't see Secrets keeping the server alive for the long haul (after PoTime is on farm). Where as servers like Takp, p99, and even Agnaar(pop locked tlp) show more commitment to keeping those projects alive long term. Secrets does not have a good track record with sticking with projects long-term.
@@Serathiel7 That argument would almost be supported if THJ wasn't Diablo meets EQ in a single player ARPG experience where you can pop raid targets every like 8 hours, and you get a character powerful enough to do it with ease... and it made S tier.
Ok but thj pushes your entire point eyond the moon and its S tier so@@Serathiel7
@@wtfalts The logical fallacy that justifies one bad thing as good because of another is called "two wrongs make a right" - essentially arguing that because someone else did something wrong, it makes your own wrong action acceptable or justifiable.
lol your list is whack, lame.
What changes would you make?
@@vanman2099 Your list is 80% stuck in old EQ, replaying old content. To say no to Luclin, Povar, and maybe to Cazic, Bertox or Xegony means to me you only know part of the game. There is a reason there are 31 expansions in the game not just the 4 that TLP's play before dying and Time locked servers play over and over. I'm sorry if I am coming off as an A-hole, not my intention but I see stuff like this and people reviewing the game and they never take into account modern EQ lol
@@Sandaormo1 I see what you're saying, these tiers were built almost solely off population tracking and data over a period of time, the ones that got a NO were ones that consistently didn't peak above 150 active accounts at any point. Maybe I should clarify, the video is more geared toward new and returning players, not the people already playing on those servers etc.
Thanks for this information! Exactly what I needed.
Really interesting video-thank you! I came back to EQ after 20 years away, and have been having a blast on Teek. I hope to ride it all the way to Live, but I worry about the long-term population.
I’ve revisited EQ occasionally since leaving home in 2003 and the heroes journey server is the most fun I’ve ever had since EQ was my main MMO.. it feels so fresh and engaging mixing classes together and tearing through things solo, what a gas
Quarm is the best place to me.
Do you have any predictions on the future hash rate of the bitcoin network? It sounds like you're expecting a lot of the big miners to fail unless the price of bitcoin goes up a lot.
@@Fudmottin the halvings do create a strange predicament for sure, where miners need to double the hash rate to maintain the same production, so far BTC price has kept them alive but we’re at a point now where you still need basically free electricity to really make much. It’s going to be really interesting to see what happens when only fees are left so far technology has kept it alive with improvements in speed and efficiency, I don’t have any predictions for you, all I know is regular miners have been basically pushed out of market and all that’s really left are the big farms that can get really cheap bulk electric, I think that trend continues but if BTC doesn’t continue to climb in price and technology hits a lull it might create a lot of issues for them even.
@@vanman2099 I wonder if decentralized mining will come back. A simple BitAxe with about 1TH/s draws very little power. Obviously the odds of winning a block are near zero. But the cost is also quite minimal.
New takp tlp coming Jan first. Cya there
For me, THJ is the best thing to happen to EQ since 2002. Haven't been this addicted since.
I've been having a blast on Heroes Journey server.
Pantheon is where.
in alpha/beta
@@kidamere2408 Early access. On Steam
Pantheon is more EQ2 than OG EQ
I can agree with this list. I play on Heroes Journey and can confirm it is the future of EQ. If Daybreak doesn't copy it I will be shocked. Only change I would make to your list is putting FV and Mischief higher as they are still very popular. Also Tormax while dead is at least C level. It's still new and last I checked had a few active players that took it seriously. You seem to have forgotten Test server. It's very low population, but the people there are amazing and welcoming. You can literally buy any loot for 1 Plat. They WANT new players. It's free too =)
@@paladine6 ahh yes test server I never remember that one
Great vid. What expansion is heroes journey?
It's not an expansion, it's an emulation server that alters the rules to allow you to make class/race combos you cannot do with official EQ servers; have multiple pets per character; etc. Edit: If you mean to ask, "What expansion is The Heroes' Journey server on?", then I'm sorry. I don't know. I've seen a few people that USED to play on Live switch to there and start making it the subject of their Twitch streams, though; I imagine it's probably because of the massive, repeated ban waves that are decimating Live servers and causing people to just up and quit. Why waste money on a company that hates you, when you can get a superior product from someone that actually wants you there?
@@brianmurphy6480 It's in Kunark with Velious coming soon,
did this work on agnar?
How much of your electricity cost estimates was cooling? Or is it all machine and simple fans on a small system? Just curious.
The electrical cost estimates were strictly what gets billed by the power companies, the system costs are just the bare minimums to run the system , if you have to cool the systems it's going to be even more expensive, I used to put them in abandoned apartments or grow tents and use a lot of CFM airflow to keep the heat away from them but that all adds up too.
So for like GPU mining, depending on the algorithm sometimes it's more efficient to use MSI Afterburner or something else to push the power down to 50-60% draw per card, if somebody isn't doing that then it will also be a lot more expensive :(
Thank you you saved me from buying a bitcoin miner. It doesn't make sense. If we consider electricity cost.. 😊
a full talking head video with some spreadsheets no wonder no one is coming to ever quest can't even edit in the content from the game of what you're doing just a damn talking head
@@mws12345 tell me how you really feel man don’t hold back
@@vanman2099 well there is nothing wrong with you or your head, I just wanted to see some content from the game specifically teek I never played ever quest and was thinking of giving it a shot, but honestly with this whole dual box thing I probably wont it seems like all the old school good players are hooked on this dual box thing which means they have ways of just getting things on their own and are less motivated to help new players more trying to propel themselves and their alts ahead of everyone else etc. and most servers it looks like they allow dual boxing and even if they didn't people would still do it, so i dunno maybe i just will never play everquest plus teek's been out a while now. I dunno sorry nothing I said was personal or wrong with you or your head.
@ Hahaa thanks for the explanation, if you’ve never played before you might enjoy some of the emu servers, but yes the game is so old in its way it’s not even dual boxers people play full groups it’s like the opposite of wow it’s hard to solo etc especially before mercenaries, but there are guilds and friends you could make that you could play with or help you along, firiona vie is the best bet for live servers, teek will continue to die down now at this point but will still be semi popular, but it is tough to jump into project 99 has the very old school brutal stuff in original game format and then things like project quarm are a bit more lenient
So... problem with TLP servers... there are too many bots/box armies. Why I quit: I played for 24 years and had lifetime account. But the Bots got too bad, so I petitioned . 12-36 player Bots camped all the popular spots and preventing our huge raid. When I submitted a complaint they banned my lifetime account (not the bots). That's crazy... so chargedback $780 and quit. For other players who are fed up with the bots and the horrible GM rule enforcement, make sure to chargeback as much as you can ASAP because you can only go back so far... but be aware its a one way trip (whatever company owns Everquest won't let you back without paying). Reply
No longer supported? it NEVER WAS
I cant speak for how they are after Velious, but Wizards got a bad rap because people think they're just DPS, when they're really a hybrid of the casters. So the the specialized casters out shine them on the surface, and their main utility is a blindspot of min/max'ing and parsing data pre-PoK, and in the eyes of the community eliminated after. They get pigeon-holed into pure DPS because the other specialized casters will always beat their combat utility, but they have the second best caster CC with their roots and stuns. Before there were guides for everything, their scouting abilities were an actual thing as parties were exploring and discovering things for the first time. And their last problem is no one ever sees how much experience and time your Wizard saved your group by evac'ing and being able to freely move around the world. They trivialize this value by biasing everything towards raid performance. And they ignore the number of nights they spent unable to find a group or when they do an open camp. It's impossible to measure the value of being able to move your group to any zone on the map in an instant to find the best exp and loot, and then send everyone back home at the end of the night. I'm not excusing Daybreak for failing to give them a niche that allows them to shine for the last 20 years, but Wizards are the most overlooked and underrated caster of classic EQ. Almost makes we wanna roll a new Wizard on Quarm right now
MERCENARY CAN HEAL
7TH HAMMER since 2001
I tried Quarm but... meh! They made so many changes to the code and gameplay. It has the "look" of EQ but it lost the "feel" of EQ. Respawn time are way too quick where you'll need to break the camp on every pull. There is no forum or website to communicate with the community... only Discord (and that SUX). If you're just joining up, forget about being able to afford anything. If you're already high level with twinked gear then you'll enjoy farming the lowbie fast spawn camps. Boxes not allowed but there is PL'ing happening all over (through VPN multi accounts).
:( its kind of crazy, I always say I wish I could relive the old eq days but honestly I really don't I gotta just take those memories and cherish them, If they reset everything back to old eq I'd never have that kind of time again. It's the same with Warcraft 2, I miss the old days of that, even battle.net edition they brought up a russian server for it that's private but theres hardly any games and the people that are the "pros" that have been playing for 25 years mostly weren't the pros I remember from back in the day I used to play with, it's basically just the best of the 25 people that are left now.
@@vanman2099 I hear you. If you haven't given The Heroes' Journey, you should give it a try. Downloaded the client yesterday and I've been playing non stop since. It's been a long time since I've been that curious and excited about a game. THJ lets your build 3 classes in one character so your toon could be mage, enchanter, shadowknight all at once (or whatever combination you chose). Very smooth gameplay and has all the QOL included. Tons of fun!
Thanks for the video TV. "the things they can do with these tlps and the rule sets is like infinite" Agree with your take on this. There a huge opportunity here for the company to create tools they can use to create easy dynamic servers. Then develop an effective process for running them. This develops their tools and experience, opens the door to growing the product/community and delivering for community, and sets them up to create an R&D lab for dev tinkering. As is always the case, it would still be very important to develop and keep a firm eye on maintaining already popular content and supporting that. So you are not ruining the game and community you do already have. Likely this would result in the emergence, identifying, then growing support for different player demographics. Classic, Custom, and adding things like Dynamic. Where a Dynamic would be a player population that could be ported across (or just evolve in) different server custom rules types over time, perhaps tied to events, etc. Dynamic could lead to things like a server with all new sets of race and/or class types from what's in the game. "if I can't get some done in one or two hours logging on then it's not worth my time I don't want to spend one two hours looking for group which is how I started boxing in the first place" Some dev or community members need to map out the most common pitfalls of EQ/MMO. How the game fails across demographics as it ages, adds/drops features, has custom rules, etc. Where players just go to die. It's good to know, even without solution info attached. Also list which players benefit and which players suffer from the situation. Then start working on workround for that. Publish them. Develop systems for them, etc. A while back I was messing around with a system that scaled up/down based on things like server population, the major player pitfalls popping up, etc. The idea what that it would create in-game support content to best tailor to the needs of the games population. In theory players could then try to rig the game to generate these wanted states, but that can be fine too. You could re-pop (with different pop, serving different needs) entire zones, or zone sections to fit the needs of players. One example could be what Hollowshade Moor does where a player can reset it to what they need (but with the actual repops being more serving of different player needs). Another is empty zones can have their own ecosystem that eventually spawns ultra rare mods to get players to actually go there once in a while. Another is giving mobs types/groups in a zone that can be solo, grouped, etc. (I did this in one zone by having a 3 mob group with 1 walking away then back, so they could be soloed or group killed) so players can do things in down time.
It's no Brainer.... on all the emu servers rogs dominate dps hard. They are easy to gear all you need is ragebringer and they are best raid dps until trueshot rangers. Although you can't use 3rd party on these servers and usually no boxing or only like 3 box
Thomas what’s your opinion on the Bristlebane server in terms of population averages, etc? I played hard from release 1999-2006. I’m getting ready to come back and my last hurdle is which server to play on? My goal is I want people to play with and the opportunity to make some new friends in Norrath. Thanks.
All live servers besides Firionia Vie are virtually dead, you can definitely login there and see what the deal is but you probably have 1 or 2 guilds and a bunch of casuals only so you'd have to fit in with the small community there.
@@vanman2099 Which server has the larger population? FV or Teek? Thanks.
@ teek will by a good chunk for awhile, FV is on live, teek Just hit planes of power, mischief is probably the third most populated and that’s at have the level 105 expansion is I think. So it depends if you want to start at the latest exp or play again where you remember from
@@marshaledrek71 Teek will have 2-3x, sometimes 4x the population as FV, but it's a TLP so as it progresses it will drop population, eventually if it follows Mischief, it will have half the population as FV before it gets to live.
I only played EQ up through Planes Of Power. Seems like EQ was (I am not commenting on anything past PoP) best broken down by player type, and their play experiences and type, and preferences. If you are doing dedicated raiding or have easy access to player networks (to make whatever teams you want) and like to play in optimum groups for very specific vanilla DPS needs, then Rogue should be great. If you are doing solo, small group, or even full group work and you don't have great player networks or you need to tackle custom special requirement encounters. Rogue is not gonna be one of the pieces you want. And they were not the classes that I saw players asking to join their groups (which would be Cleric and a Tank; Enchanter and Bard also popular once mana regen buffs kicked in or Bards for outdoor pulling or overland travel). Despite the old guard EQ developers (who I knew many of and later worked with some) wanting EQ to be a social and large group game, it failed to deliver that for casual players. Casual players had to deal with casual player problems, and that included lack of access to player networks, unreliable support from or teaming up with other players/classes, being put and kept in competition with hardcore top guild players, relying on their class/player/level/gear/etc. appeal to pickup groups to find groups to take them, the grind and pain of having to always find groups with randoms and all the drama and halflife that went with that, etc. And that led to lots of casuals creating their own version of the game to play. Old guard EQ developers didn't like the solo game and small group tame, but they built a game that forced certain player types into it, and they were tone deaf to that and the experience those players had. And those devs were largely blind/uncaring to that casual player design situation, as well as lacking a genuine understanding of how AAA games stumble/struggle when they shun casual gamers.
This is so true, I didn't start off raiding and I played a warrior during planes of power, I had basically the best gear you could get without raiding but anytime a tank from a raid guild wanted in the group or was LFG I had zero chance of finding a group.
@@vanman2099 Yeah, those top guild badges got people excited. It kinda said that player was top gear, a good player, and the chance to get a contact in a top guild for potential future payoff. It happened fairly often that I would get messages from players in top guilds letting me know a drop was rotting if I wanted it. As a bard, it was usually very easy to get there and loot it in time. Or if you got really messed up in game somewhere, they could bring in the cavalry and save you. I was a high level bard who didn't want to guild or raid, I liked to do a lot of the OP solo stuff or casual group, but I also posted on forums a lot and knew the top guild bards (bots on The Rathe at the time around PoP). PoP forced raiding so hard for progression and loot access, it broke my solo game. One top guild Bard fed me extra spells they had for a while (even top Guilds didn't have lots of Bards or Bard alts), but eventually even that was not enough. So I got recruited into bots, they got me my Epic with a small group, then I became Main Tank bard for a month. I did really like the people, but raiding was just not for me. So I dropped from bots and EQ shortly after. I worked as a designer. And I feel that even "PvE" EQ has lots of PvP elements in it. From in-game things like competing over shared content, to getting spots in groups, to how and who the designers produce content and rewards for. I tried my best over a meal to convince a top dev to develop the casual and solo play more, but they were just not having it: he wanted to make games for full groups, raids, and hardcore guilds.
@@kittensmakingcandles That's sad, but that's actually how/why I ended up multi-boxing, there just became a point where groups were hard to get unless you were part of a guild so I just started doing stuff on my own, I would join my tank to guilds and raid at the beginning of each expansion to get gear and then that would help my boxed group with having a geared tank to do my own stuff. Eventually went into WoW which was more casual friendly to me and then it became really casual friendly with Looking for raid groups and other groups and then making it so to queue up you had to have a certain item level for gear was a pretty neat feature so even if you got a bad player at least they had enough gear lol, but we got around that with ults for awhile by getting PvP gear or certain items with a high ilvl to get above the needed average even if we didn't use it after we got in the instance.
@@vanman2099 Multi-boxing seems like a perfect solution to the problems of the casual player. Especially with your technique of combining it with a full geared up key role main character to make it work better. Do they have in-game or 3rd party tools for that? Can you run it on just one machine? I've for a long time been a fan of design that works to build out the game to reflect the realities of the player. For a game like EQ (and Planetside 2), that would mean changing the game to make grouping of casuals more streamlined, easier, and effective. Specifically in line with the experience they want to have, have had, or otherwise respond well to, or... that other players already have (in the case of EQ, that would be the hardcore guilds). I totally avoided WoW, other than a brief play to experience it and take design notes. I knew I didn't want to be addicted again like I was to EQ. I also of course know some things about WoW just because of how massive it was and how that game's news and influence often reached far beyond the players and the game. From what little I know of WoW I was very impressed by it. They continued to make massive leaps in design and other dev work. How do you like WoW vs. EQ? From what you wrote, it seems like WoW did open up a lot of options for your playstyle. And even though you had to find your own workarounds for other things, at least they were still there to find and use.
@@kittensmakingcandles On live servers and some TLPs they let you play 3 to as many as you want off one PC. Most of my videos are boxing on servers that restrict to 1 account per PC which is maybe the unique aspect of those videos. I got into wow early enough to get into the making guides and selling e-products and websites so it was my full time job for about 6 to 7 years but it wasn't fun for me when that happened because it was always about getting in the beta, making guides ahead of time, then leveling every class to max level on both horde and alliance and all professions so it was really exhausting we started to dread new expansions until finally we just quit once more people started doing Internet Marketing and wowhead and stuff got huge it was too much energy to compete. Before it became work it was relaxing because like I said, I went from having to multibox in EQ to just playing 1 in WoW.
Makes perfect sense. Rogue is like top dps or was when I played. Chanter is all around buff/debuff/cc. Warriors are the best overall tank right? Cleric no brainer. I have always played bard/ranger.
It's it too late to begin on teek? I'm a totally new player and looking for a TLP
Nah it might be lonely starting out but Planes of Power just came out which was a lot of fun.
