    • @TheGardenDefenderReviews
      @TheGardenDefenderReviews 3 часа назад

      Not all openers are the same, unfortunately. If yours looks like mine, you’ll notice the little orange tabs above the holes for each wire, if I push on one of the tabs, it releases tension on the wire in the corresponding hole, so I can push in the new wire and existing wire, together. Older openers will likely have screw terminals that need to be loosened to wrap the wire around and then tightened back down. I hope that makes sense! If you’re nervous in any way about getting shocked, these wires are very low voltage and you wouldn’t even notice if it happened. Better to unplug the unit regardless. Let me know how it goes!

    Had one of these sitting in my work tool box for the last decade and always wondered what it was used for. Followed your guide testing it on a 240Volt wall socket (GPO) phillips head screw that was also sitting in my tool box, and it works a treat. Having said that google shows them for $101AUD although your Amazon link is about a third that price, but that said, a piece of blue-tack has always been my approach to sticking screws to the tips of screwdrivers - which has never failed me, and that won't cost you a cent.😏 Will probably hide this tool down the bottom of my tool box again, and maybe in the next 10 years will remember it's there and try it out for real one day.

    just wondering about modifying the spray output.. Instead of a large spay of water can it be altered to not have such a big stream ... Like a garden hose sprayer , you can adjust the spray head from (jet steam to Fan spray ) I would like a defused stream of water. ANY suggestions ? Thanks ...Ray.

    • @TheGardenDefenderReviews
      @TheGardenDefenderReviews 3 месяца назад

      The sprayer arms themselves can only be adjusted for distance. When the arms are spinning, the stream isn't as strong, but definitely stronger than a mist. The "motor" for the tractor relies on the water pressure to turn the sprayer arms, which creates the action turning the gears inside, and that turns the wheels. Anything less and the tractor may just sit there. When I get outside to put mine away, I'll experiment with it and report back. Thanks for watching!

    I watched a shorter version of this video and that is what tipped me over into getting this sprinkler. I have a huge yard by suburb of Los Angeles standards, and the two corner sprinklers that I have were cut off when re-piping was done several years prior to my owning the house. I decided to try this in my front yard first, because it’s quite a bit smaller, although still large, and it is rectangular. I had a little bit of an issue, figuring out from the diagram, which way the arms are supposed to point, it’s not very clear about Exactly how to position them for the distances of spray, but this video helped. You didn’t describe everything as well as I would have liked, but I could pause the video and see what direction things were pointed in, and that was perfect. As we speak, my front lawn is getting watered all in one fell swoop, and I don’t have to think about it!

    • @TheGardenDefenderReviews
      @TheGardenDefenderReviews 3 месяца назад

      I hope it’s working out for you! I love mine, use it a few times a week. Keep an eye on yours, the last time I used it the rear wheel went up the ramp instead of the automatic shut off, it got stuck and would have continued to spray if I didn’t shut it off. I keep mine on a WiFi controlled valve/timer so I was able to shut it off quickly. Thanks for watching!

    • @guidingspirit3033
      @guidingspirit3033 3 месяца назад

      @@TheGardenDefenderReviews I was keeping my eye on it, and it may not work for my front yard, since the Amazon guy showed up and I realized my entire porch was getting soaked and would have gotten soaked for another 20-30 minutes. I can turn the radius down a bit, and have it only run for a short distance just to get all of it. I’ll still have to water my backyard in 2-3 sections, so I’ll have to turn off the hose and move it anyway, but it’s better than my running out every 20 minutes to move the hose and figure out the rain bird sprinkler for that spot, then again 20 minutes after that to repeat the procedure in a different spot, and by then it’s dark and I’ve only watered 1/2 of my yard if that!

    How does one defend against ANTS? Here is my experiment which I found on google. Vinegar. It pisses them off but not permanently. Have to spray regularly. You might have the side effect of the smell, but normally I don't run out and get McDonald fries. The other thing I combine with the vinegar (which is watered down) is salt. When sprayed on tile surfaces (never soil or grass or garden areas), they tend to displace not only the ants but kills the weeds. Try it out. Sometimes the weeds need a lot more salt. Salt is dangerous for things you want to grow so be careful!

    Can several phones be linked to the one camera? Have several drivers with the car and wondering if can have each driver link to the same camera?

    • @TheGardenDefenderReviews
      @TheGardenDefenderReviews 3 месяца назад

      First, each camera MUST have a memory card installed. All footage is saved to the memory card, so regardless of who is driving, it will save the footage to the camera memory card. I don't have a second phone to test this, but the phone is just how you access the footage from within the vehicle. So any phone with the Garmin Drive app, logged into the registered account, SHOULD be able to pair with the camera and retrieve the footage,. After using this for 6+months now, I've found the easiest way to access the footage is to take the memory card to my computer and access the files from there. I want to reiterate a couple things regarding accessing the saved files: 1. The only footage you can access remotely, away from the camera, are files saved to your "Vault". Files are saved to your vault when you say "Ok Garmin, Save Video" while driving, OR if you have parking mode enabled and the camera detects something. Those files will upload to your vault when the camera connects to your HOME Wi-Fi network. 2. All other footage must be accessed by either pulling the memory card into your computer or connecting to the camera with the Garmin Drive app while IN the vehicle. 3. If you do NOT pay for the Garmin Drive subscription, you can only access your vault files remotely for 24 hours after the file is uploaded. The file will still be saved to your memory card. 4. I also need to specify, if your camera is not plugged into a constant power port in your vehicle, it might not upload to the cloud through Wi-Fi. I feel like it waits for the car to be shut off, and then send the files. But I may just jump out of my car to fast. Now that I have it on constant power, I get a notification on my phone when new files are ready. I hope that helps! Please let me know if I can answer anything else!! Thanks for stopping by!

      @@TheGardenDefenderReviews Much thanks for responding so quickly. If my memory is correct, I think you said in the video that the problem with taking the chip to the home computer, it divides the videos into 1 min clips. I presume that if the chip is restored back to the garmin the videos remain connected? Or are they permanently chopped up?

    • @TheGardenDefenderReviews
      @TheGardenDefenderReviews 3 месяца назад

      Good memory! You are correct, accessing by computer will provide 60 second clips, named sequentially (GRMN0257, GRMN0258, Etc.) The file is time stamped (Date Modified file attribute) so they are in order, and you can easily find the file you need if you know the time. Accessing the files with the app does NOT break them up. The whole trip (car on to car off) is saved as 1 event. You can then trim the clip like editing the length of a video on you phone, and then export. The longer the trip, the longer it takes the app to render the file. I'll be honest, it's not ideal if you're in a hurry. But it does work if you're patient. I wish I had multiple cameras to compare interfaces, but I do not. I really bought mine for proof in the event of an accident. So I'm not really trying to access the files often enough for ME to worry about the speed/difficulty. But if you plan on viewing, say your children's driving, on a regular basis, it might become frustrating.

    • @gh4534
      @gh4534 3 месяца назад

      I’m more interested in accident capture but I’m guessing the 1 min partition would ignore where the accident actually happen. Most accidents happened within 1-2 seconds. What’s the odds that the 1 min dividend occurs right in the middle of that event. One would have to splice the videos together. But if the internal version is still whole, then I guess I would stick the chip back into the Garmin and try to grab the even without a break? Presume one could grab a video by defining a start and finish time when the chip is in the Garmin? Or better to upload to the vault and then grab a whole even video from there and escaping the need to add clips together?

I use the programmable buttons in my Jeep, and feel like there was a slight reduction in the range since installing the Meross unit. It works, just feels like I have to be closer to the garage now. Thank you! This is not a feature I was looking for so I had to look. After scouring the app, I do not see this functionality, unfortunately. That would be neat though. I know most garage door opener manufacturers have their own proprietary products that Amazon can use to open your garage for packages, it’s possible those products have a similar function for friends/family/dog walkers/etc. I don’t have any experience with them though. Sorry I couldn’t be more help! Thanks for stopping by!

    Can you use Apple home, siri & carplay without connecting it to an Apple hub (eg. apple tv or homepod)?

    • @TheGardenDefenderReviews
      @TheGardenDefenderReviews 5 месяцев назад

      Unfortunately no, Homekit requires an Apple Hub (Apple TV or Home Pod) to authenticate you (your Apple ID) for security purposes when away from home. If your phone is on the same Wi-Fi network, as the device, then it SHOULD work from the Home app, but I am not an expert, and this is probably not the functionality you're going for. Sorry. Hope this at least answers your question, let me know if you have any others. Thanks for watching!

    Is there a way to connect it to the OEM in-car garage door opener?

    • @TheGardenDefenderReviews
      @TheGardenDefenderReviews 5 месяцев назад

      If I understand what you're asking, you're wondering if you can connect the Meross smart garage door opener to the programmable buttons in your car, either on your rearview mirror or the overhead console? If that is the only functionality you desire, I would just follow you car manufactures instructions for controlling your garage door opener, and don't bother with this unit. But, to answer your question, I don't see any way to make this connection, at least based on my experience. The smart garage door opener is designed to integrate with smart home devices. They can be used concurrently, I do. My vehicle buttons control by door opener. But I also use a few Amazon Echos around my house and my phone on occasion. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!!

      Thanks for taking the time to comment! I'm also a little disappointed with the license plate visibility at distance. But in my testing, I found that I was able to clearly read plates while stopped at traffic lights. I feel that any time I would want a plate number, the car would have to be closer than that, presumably having hit me. My ultimate goal was a small form factor, and this really worked for me. What kind of batteries are you using? Duracell, Energizer? Great Video, thank you so much, maing!

    • @TheGardenDefenderReviews
      @TheGardenDefenderReviews 5 месяцев назад

      My first summer I used Up&Up brand from Target. Last year I used to Energizer lithium batteries that came in my Smoke Detectors that still had plenty of juice after 5 years, but the smart detectors said to replace. This year I’m using Duracell Power Boost that I had in the drawer. Basically I just use what I have. I will say, new batteries seem to make the sensor more sensitive. So I recommend new batteries each season, even if the old ones still seem to be working. Glad you enjoyed! Thanks for watching!

      @TheGardenDefenderReviews 5 месяцев назад

      LOL. Pricey? Yes they are. My personal approach to higher dollar tools is: If I don't know if I'm going to use it, I buy budget brands with decent quality. If I then find that I use it often, and the top end or next level up offers better features/consistency/safety/etc., then I may pull the trigger and sell the cheaper version. If I never use the cheaper version, I'm not going to feel so guilty, and at least I'll have it if I need it. Drills, Drivers, LEVELs, etc., I'm going to need these the rest of my life, why not splurge? As long as you take care of them, they'll be around forever (maybe not the batteries). Thanks for watching as always!

I make sure to drain mine and put them away if it’s going to freeze. • @TheGardenDefenderReviews

      Yes you will! When I first installed mine I had it connected to my house WiFi network, but the garage door blocks the WiFi signal from the house when it’s closed. I have a detached garage BTW. I had to use the remote button that came with the opener to open the door. I then connected to my garage WiFi network and it has worked flawlessly since.

    Is the motion sensor heat-sensing? I'd only want it to start firing if the unit sees an animal rather than a tree branch in the wind for ie. Also any experience setting this up as part of an irrigation system, rather than connected to a hose bib?

    • @TheGardenDefenderReviews
      @TheGardenDefenderReviews 6 месяцев назад

      From the manual: HOW MOTION DETECTION WORKS The sensor detects a combination of heat and nonlinear motion to activate the valve. The sensor relies on the body temperature of the unwanted pest to differ from the surrounding ambient temperature. Bigger animals have a larger heat signature and will be easier to detect. Smaller animals, like rodents, do not produce enough heat to trigger the heat sensor. My two sprinklers have been set off by small birds and squirrels all the way up to cars passing by the front of my house. I only have one tree in range of my front yard sprinkler and have seen no evidence that it’s blowing in the wind has activated the sensor. I have only connected mine to garden hoses, but plan to use a buried irrigation line this year, still connected to a faucet however. I can’t see any reason why it wouldn’t work though. They actually used to sell a version designed for hard piping, only difference being the base. It appears they discontinued that one, I can’t find it anymore. Let me know if you need anymore clarification. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!

      @TheGardenDefenderReviews Thank you! How often do you have to replace the 4 AA batteries?

    • @TheGardenDefenderReviews
      @TheGardenDefenderReviews 6 месяцев назад

      My front yard sprinkler goes off a TON because I’m close to the road. Cars and people on the sidewalk will set it off. I also have the detection range turned up to catch deer at a distance. And I catch plenty. Check out my other channel @thegardendefender I have a bunch of videos there too. Batteries still lasted a whole summer. My backyard sprinkler worked all last summer on 4 lithium AA batteries that came in my smoke detector 6 years ago and had to be replaced. It seems to me the batteries last longer than I would have expected. With normal use, 4 batteries should last a whole spring/summer. I encourage you change them annually, assuming you put it away during winter like I have to, just to be sure.

    Dose it have auto home Like where I can go back to a set position?? After a time

    • @TheGardenDefenderReviews
      @TheGardenDefenderReviews 6 месяцев назад

      I’ve gone through all the settings, and the closest option to what you describe is a “waypoint”. You can set as many as you like. With “Pan Scan” turned on, the camera will scan between all set waypoints every 10 seconds. I don’t believe you can adjust this duration. If you manually move the camera around, and Pan Scan is on, it will return the to waypoints and keep scanning. If you only have 1 waypoint, it will return there. I only have 1 waypoint set, and Pan Scan off, so if I manually look around with the camera, I just tap the waypoint and it returns “home”. I don’t think that’s exactly what you’re looking for, but I hope it helps. This is just my experience, it’s quite possible I don’t know everything. Thanks for watching!

    If the motion detects something, how long does the water stay on? Saw a review on another sprayer and it didn't turn itself off. Hoping this one isn't the same way.

    • @TheGardenDefenderReviews
      @TheGardenDefenderReviews 7 месяцев назад

      I have two of these, one has been used for two full summers and I have not had any problems with them not shutting off. There is a knob to adjust the duration of the spray. The manual does not indicate what the shortest and longest times are, unfortunately. I do not remember for sure if I have mine set to longest time, or just short of the longest time, so I pulled up some security videos, and timed 3 separate instances for each sprinkler, and based on my settings, the average spray was 8-10 seconds. It's too cold to set them up right now, or I'd do some tests for you and any other curious viewers. Check out my other channel @thegardendefender. There's no shortage of sprinkler action shots. Honestly, no animal makes it passed 2-3 seconds. I've had deer run at the sound of just the valve clicking when I forgot to turn the water back on after cutting the grass. I did have a skunk come back and actually yell at the sprinkler when it was done. LOL. I love these things, let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks for watching!
