Imperialism and extractive colonialism have been neither necessary nor sufficient conditions for the development and spread/establishment of capitalist property relations and capitalist relations of and in production. Furthermore, that the liberal egalitarian critique of imperialism and extractive colonialism is simpatico with a radical, Marxist critique of capitalist imperialism should come as no surprise, given Lenin's pamphlet and its precursors (esp. This guy doesn't even attempt to answer the primary question you have asked: Why has the "left" become so neutered, so ineffectual, accommodating to the status quo, seemingly having accepted Thatcher's declaration of TINA (There is No Alternative)? In other words: Why has so much of the ostensible left sold out (as opportunists, it appears), even to the point of supporting an invented (by them) so called "humanitarian imperialism"? You should interview someone else, perhaps much less academic than he obviously is, more of an activist perhaps, to get a realistic answer to these questions, which are not academic at all. I was looking forward to an attempt to answer the question of why a large part of the US left has sold out, and become liberals, but still posing as being of the left. But for me, it was a great disappointment. Even you, Aaron, seemed to realize that the interview was not going in the direction that you were expecting and hoping for. It is interesting reading archived issues of the Nation and having facts brought back to mind such as the Foley Square trials of Earl Browder and so many others. The "silence" of the left has been for decades in the context of aggressive suppression and violence and manipulation.

Let us not overlook the "Jerry Springer Show" effect. I grew up in a small US town in the 60's but found the people on television inspirational and I wanted to rise to the challenge of speaking better English and expressing more deeply thought ideas. Then look at what happened once the Jerry Springer thing happened. End of 'those' people aspiring to be better at anything... they just wanted to get on the show. Unfortunately, I am not in personal contact with anyone who would listen. I've known maybe 2 people in my entire life who would have been willing to sit down and listen to this. I'm working class, from a working class family, from working class neighborhoods. My birth saved my father from Vietnam, and both my parents opposed the war, loved 42:51 Dylan, and my mother got a masters degree in American history. She wrote her thesis on Boock White , a socialist who once confronted Rockefeller on the steps of his church. I remember when she drove off out west to meet his widow and go through his papers. Unfortunately,, both my parents have Trump derangement syndrome. It's appalling. I send them this stuff all the time. They refuse to engage. I don't recognize them anymore. It's depressing.

I am reading Aaron's book and I want to encourage people to read it. Since Oct. 7th I have been reading a number of books about how the hell this country has come to the crisis collapse point it is at and Aaron really provides the context to explain it. While they were able to create ISIS and then convince us they are our enemy and that we are fighting them, what could stop them from cooperating with the other side to establish this theater that will convince us we need to give up our right to fight the other sides while in reality both sides will be collaborating and using all this conflict story to convince us to give up our rights? Both sides want control, and since the COVID narrative allows them to take more control over the population, they both agreed on it. What if that multipolarity narrative is created only to allow them to take more control from the population?

I don't think anyone currently has a better grasp of the dark forces that have evolved especially since ww2, as powerful factions within various sectors of society have consolidated their powers into what you call the tripartheid state, often in the shadows but at times in brazen daylight, all while gaslighting and distracting the general public with a farcical frivolity that belies its sinister cynicism and baffling effectiveness. It takes integrity and courage to tell this tale and to remember and elevate the voices who paved the way for you, from Peter Dale Scott to Dan Ellsberg to Jim DiEugenio to Alfred McCoy, Douglas Valentine, John Marks, and intelligence whistleblowers from Agee to Stockwell to Kiriakou and Snowden. It amazes me that, as someone who has been fascinated and borderline obsessed with exactly the material you cover, i only recently discovered you and your work.
