ive just changed the clutch, but its slipping the clutch apart from in reverse. why would this happen
Hi Nick, do the o rings and seals come with these? Is it a separate task to replace these or is it part of coil pack replacement, cheers JohN
The tubes and seals are sold separately - but makes sense to replace at the same time
Excellent insights and instructions!
Lip smacking good video. Thanks
What a class. Tks.
I have a Boxster 986 2003. I opened the door panel to replace an arm rest on the drivers side. I left the window up and disconnected 2 wires behind the door handle (black and white). Upon putting everything back, the window no longer lowers in order to open the door. The windows work fine otherwise and go back up when closing the door. Any ideas on what the problem may be or any solutions? Thanks!
This video reminds me of 2005
Thanx for clear explanation!
I couldn't get the grey connector off either
What would happen if I slide the stalk assembly forward a little?mine isn't broken, but the steering wheel isn't clicking the little plunger back in
Perfect video. Best one I have seen on this. Thanks for showing the waterpump too.
Thi svideo made replacement a 5min job, rather than a voyage of discovery. Cheer Nick

Clearly a video made by a UK enthusiast, you can tell by the sound of the rain on the car (around 2:51). Good informative video, thanks
i love the sound of it. Are you able to put it back again?
Front strut or rear?
Hi Nick, this ,may be my problem as window does drop a few mm. What silicone sealant do you use for the waterproof internal cover?
Thanks for the thorough video! My issue is with a 2008 Boxster limited edition. The window goes down a bit to allow the door to open, but while the door is open, the window goes back up, so I can't close the door without the window hitting the frame. So I have to pull the handle up slightly to get the window to drop down and then I can close the door and let go of the handle right at the end so the window comes up right as the door closes. This sounds like a different issue. Do you know what this problem is or how I would fix it?
That could possibly be due to the tension on the window regulator. You can adjust the cable tension to remove the excess cable. But before you do that reset the glass position. Ignition on, put window all the way down with finger on the switch and when it is at the bottom, keep holding the switch fie 10 seconds. Then put window to the top and hold again for 10 seconds. Then open and close as normal. This resets the measured control of the window and can affect the glass position
@@nickgiles355 Thanks! I'll try that.
986?
Impressed by the lack of corrosion on the strut and drop link. Mine had been in place 23yrs and had corroded into one solid piece. Far more effort required to get it apart. Liberal application of anti-seize on reassembly!
Is this the same for 987?
Hey Nick, I bought a ball joint splitter like the one in this video but it is too thick and does not fit like yours does. Is there some trick or different tool I should be using?
Could you please let us know what make of exhaust you have fitted. Thanks for the vid.
Very helpful video. Could you give me the details of the coil packs you got from EBay. Thanks.
Since making that video those could packs have more than doubled in price. My choice at the moment is rather Beru or Delphi - depending on what deals are available
Awesome - I thought you had to find the cable under the wheelarch to do this - many thanks (and I hope I never need to use it).

No idea why RUclips brought me here, great video of a very poor design choice by Porsche. As if you wouldn't have some form of manual override like say a keyhole under the badge.
Could you explain why you have the ignition turned on.
Good question, would’ve been good if Nick could explain why. It maybe something to do with the alarm…
@@alanmchester When I recently disconnected the battery on my Boxster the alarm went off couldn’t understand where it was getting it’s power from , perhaps there is some capacitors in there somewhere holding a charge.
Turning on the ignition is what stops the alarm triggering when the battery is disconnected
Cheers Nick. Did it today 👍
Excellent, hopefully il never need but if I did 👍
how’s life?. Nick,omg!what a best trip-take it easy. =)
This is the most informative video on how to adjust the 986 Boxster e-brake. Every other tutorial on this subject is a bit vague.
So glad I now live in NZ as none of that corrosion to deal with. Just changed my coffin arms and tuning forks and all came apart so easy. Even putting ball joints back didn't even need pretension to hold them in place
I know this video is years old but just want to thank you, the video on the same topic from PCA did not mention this side of the window assembly. Only after watching your video and disassembling the door further did I find what really needs zip tied and now the window works flawlessly! But something to be noted is the US spec has a speaker assembly that also needs removed to access
Nice.....
The f$ck did you put the lower spring on ??
Lower spring on first, then mount shoes and put top spring on but leave adjuster out. Spread shoes then drop adjuster in the top. Easy!
Can you show a video of you putting the new parts in?
Great video Nick
Completed last night, thank you!
hey hi, where did you get the ball joint tools? or the size? many thanks bro
Draper tool. It's the middle size of 3 they offer. Cost around £15 uk
Great video Nick. I've an issue with a sticking clutch - i.e. my clutch not wanting to return after changing up gears if I gun it on to high revs. The clutch was replaced about 2 thousand miles ago in an effort to sort the issue, helped, but didn't completely fix it. It's back to being considerably worse again having gotten the car back on the road after winter though, so I'm now looking at what else might be the issue. Thoughts?
Could well be the clutch cylinder. I bought a bo stereo last year with the pedal on the floor. Someone fitted a new clutch but hadn't noticed the clutch fork was broken
@@nickgiles355 Slave cylinder? Cheers Nick. I watched your video before spotting your name. I recognised your name with regards inspections in a 986 facebook group I'm in. keep up the good work.
Apologies - should have said sticking clutch PEDAL, not clutch per se. It's failing to return to rest position after a change up following gunning it. It's OK with changes during gentle driving..
Hi Nick, thanks for the video. I see it looked like a aftermarket ‘drone box’ you had lined up. What’s your thoughts on these? I don’t use mine everyday and have a blow on my current (which I quite like 😅) They’re a good £600 cheaper than a Dansk 🤔
Nick, would you recommend buying a genuine belt ? Design 911 has 2 other belts very cheap.
Any quality belt will fo
Brilliant, I need to do this job this year. And now I have seen what's involved I am sure it's a job I can do and does not require the specialist. Thank you Nick.
Very informative as usual but you need a better mic can hardly hear you at start
Another great video, well explained 👍
Thanks, Nick!
Well, two things; one, this is clearly the intake vent area on a face-lift, gen.2 Boxster 986 (they're quite different), and it's termed 'de-snorkelling'. Not convinced that it's worth the hassle because it makes NO extra power, and is probably detrimental once the engine bay gets hot, since the filter will suck in warm air as well as rainwater! Porsche knew what they were doing. (Take a look at the fine aerodynamic 'lips' of the plastic vent surrounds on each side.)
Great fix! Thank you
For a minute I thought you were turning the nut the wrong way, then I realised your video is mirrored.
Great video, sorry for school boy question, when refitting top mount, is there a key way etc to make sure it’s fitted correctly to align with mounting holes in the car 🤔
Yes- there are arrows on the top to show the direction of the load. You can rotate the top mount after fitting it to the shock so doesn't need aligning when assembling the shock
@@nickgiles355 brilliant, thank you 🙏
No messing around, straight to the point great video, thanks for sharing.
